MANAGER’S COLUMN

STEVE

HOUSHAM

May I welcome the officials, players and supporters of Lincoln City to our home this Tuesday evening, and I hope after an enjoyable game everyone has a safe journey home. Welcome to the Eon Visual Media Stadium as we take on Lincoln City in the National League. Can I first take this opportunity to congratulate Lincoln City on a fantastic FA Cup run and everyone connected with the club would like to wish them every success in the quarter-finals.

The commitment of the players was there for all to see and praise must be given to Rory Watson who pulled off a fine penalty save. I thought we were the better side in the first half, but we allowed ourselves to be bullied at times by a

With teams above us picking up points the gap to safety has been stretched so we know we need to pick up result, but I believe in the current crop of players we have here at the club. I’ve said before we are not the only

Who would have thought back in the qualifying rounds that a nonleague side would go this far in such a prestigious competition? However, back to the grind of the National League we are hoping the Imps are suffered a Cup hangover. It’s top versus bottom and, as they say in football, the table never lies. We know we are up against it today, but my team will give 100 per cent as they have done in every match. We took on Dover on Saturday, who themselves are jostling for a play-off place. Despite going down 2-1 I felt the defeat was very hard to take. Both goals were avoidable, but at this level you get punished for errors.

strong side in the second. I felt we coped well with the league’s top scorer Ricky Miller, but again we will have to be on our guard with Lincoln having the likes of Nathan Arnold, Matt Rhead and Dayle Southwell in their ranks.

ones who make this team you the fans are in the team as well so be proud we keep this club flowing with pride and keep believing your support is amazing. Steve Housham First-Team Manager

THE OPPOSITION

THE VISITORS...

LINCOLN CITY

Fresh from their FA Cup heroics, Lincoln City make the short trip to play North Ferriby under the Eon Visual Media Stadium lights... Lincoln City became the first non-league side in a staggering 103 years to reach the FA Cup quarter-finals, but North Ferriby will be hoping for a Cup hangover this evening if they are to get the three-point haul. The Imps notched a stunning 1-0 victory over Burnley on Saturday at Turf Moor, a game which sparked wild scenes after Sean Raggett rose highest to head home. The club have put non-league football into the national media spotlight and North Ferriby United would like to wish the Imps all the very best in the quarter-finals. Back to league action, however, the Villagers know their season is

hinging on picking up some big victories between now and the end of the campaign. With the gap to safety now stretched to seven points, Ferriby face the unenviable task of trying to beat a Lincoln side who sit top of the National League. Lincoln have only lost once in their past 10 matches and, even then that was before their FA Cup match against Brighton. The two clubs met in August, but the gulf in class was evident from the first whistle as goals from Matt Rhead (2), Nathan Arnold, Luke Waterfall, Jonathon Margetts and Bradley Wood gave Lincoln a resounding 6-1 triumph.

THE PLAYERS

Who are the key men from Lincoln City to keep your eye on this evening? We introduce them to you here...

THE TEAM GOALKEEPERS Paul Farman Richard Walton

DEFENDERS Bradley Wood Sam Habergham Luke Waterfall Callum Howe Sean Long Lee Beevers Sean Raggett Jamie McCombe

PAUL FARMAN

SAM HABERGHAM

Paul Farman played eight times for the Imps during the 2011/12 season whilst on loan from Gateshead, keeping two clean sheets in the process, but a groin strain cut short his spell. Following his release from the club, he penned a permanent deal with the Imps in 2012. The shotstopper has gone onto become a regular in the side, winning the Player of the Year award in 2014/15.

Doncaster-born Sam started out as a youngster with Norwich City, before serving his scholarship at Carrow Road. He was rewarded with his first professional contract with the Canaries at the end of June 2009. Released at the end of the 2010/11 season, he played once at Sincil Bank for the Imps’ reserves in April 2011 but ended up joining Tamworth three months later.

LUKE WATERFALL

BRADLEY WOOD

Centre-back Luke Waterfall joined the club in June 2015 from Wrexham on a two-year contract. Highly-rated Luke started out a youngster with Barnsley and made his first class debut as a teenager for Tranmere Rovers, before being released in 2009. He spent the next four seasons plying his trade in the National League North for Ilkeston Town and then Gainsborough Trinity before joining Scunthorpe United.

Full-back Bradley Wood signed for the club from Alfreton Town in June 2015 for an undisclosed fee. Primarily a right-back, but can also operate on the left, he capped a fine first season with the Imps, picking up numerous end-of-season awards following a string of whole-hearted performances both in defence and midfield. Wood has also picked up a cap for England C earlier in his career.

THE OPPOSITION

THE DANGERMAN

MATT RHEAD ALAN POWER

TERRY HAWKRIDGE

Former Republic of Ireland youth international Alan Power joined the Imps in July 2011 and quickly established himself as a regular and a firm favourite amongst the City supporters. Named as the Imps’ captain midway through the 2012/13 season, he capped a superb campaign by picking up the supporters’ Player of the Season accolade.

Winger Terry Hawkridge joined the club on loan from Scunthorpe United on 1 September 2015 in a deal which was made permanent in the New Year. A virtual ever-present in 2013/14, as Scunthorpe finished runners-up in League Two, Terry found opportunities limited at Glanford Park during the second half of the following season and finished the campaign on loan at Mansfield.

NATHAN ARNOLD Winger Nathan Arnold signed for the Imps on a two-year contract a week before the start of the current campaign. Arnold started his career as a youngster with home town team Mansfield, making his debut as a teenager early in the 2005/06 season. Scoring his first goal in only his third game, he went on to appear over 100 times for the Stags, before joining Hyde in August 2009.

DAYLE SOUTHWELL Wycombe Wanderers striker Dayle Southwell joined the Imps on a month-long loan deal at the beginning of February 2017. Dayle is a familiar face in Lincolnshire footballing circles having started his career at Grimsby Town, before spending two prolific seasons at Boston United, plundering over 50 goals for the Pilgrims at National League North level.

Matt Rhead turned down the offer of a new deal at Mansfield Town to sign for the Imps on a two-year contract in the summer of 2015. Part of the Stags’ squad that won the Conference in 2013, the 6’4” front man had been at Field Mill since January 2012, having previously been a regular on the scoresheet for Corby Town and Eastwood Town.

THE GAFFER

DANNY COWLEY Danny Cowley was unveiled as the club’s new manager on Friday 13 May 2016 having led Braintree Town to a thirdplaced finish in the Vanarama National League only to miss out on a place in the final at Wembley Stadium. Alongside brother Danny, the duo have a growing reputation in the game as one of the most sought-after management teams.

Brian Barwick, Chairman of The National League said: “This is an innovative approach and we are pleased that with the cooperation of our member clubs we will be able to consolidate the relationships we have collectively and individually with the Army. “We look forward to three enjoyable encounters on the field and meeting up on the evening in three different parts of the country, thus enabling fans to come and support these matches. Our grateful thanks are extended to everyone who is working to

Major General Mitch Mitchell, Chairman of the Army FA endorsed those comments by saying: “Over the last two years the support of The National League itself, along with their member clubs and their title sponsors Vanarama has allowed us to forge new links in communities wherever we are based and to assist personnel leaving to return to their working community. “These links grow daily for the benefit of all concerned and these three matches will cement even further the ties existing. The Army FA is pleased to join in this venture and hope that it will attract a good following both military and civilian on 29th March. STANDS North Ferriby fan Sam Shepherd discusses the top versus bottom clash this evening... Today we welcome high-flying Lincoln City to the Eon Visual Media Stadium following the Imp’s stunning FA Cup exploits at Turf Moor. This is certain to be another tough game, but it’s a game Ferriby need to defy the odds in and get a positive result.

hopefully the increased atmosphere will motivate the Ferriby players to put on a show and get a result, which would give them a massive boost going into the latter part of the season.

The lads will go out and give it their all, as they have done all season, and if Lincoln do suffer an FA Cup hangover that may just be enough. Enjoy the game! Sam
