And it’s a welcome to our friends from Norwich who have made the long trip to be with us tonight.
the Mead tonight, did you win on our “Lucky Squares” draw? Find out tonight… And as it’s a midweek home game, so OB gives us the view from the dug-out and there’s the very latest from the Chairman’s desk…
Having made the trip to Wroxham at the weekend we can all vouch for the long distance that our friends have made tonight, but I guess at least we didn’t have to contest the M25 in the weekday rush-hour!
Enjoy the game – safe trip back North to our visitors – and don’t forget we’re here again on Saturday when we welcome Ware to Bayliss Avenue…
Anyhow, in our midweek copy of

BOWDEN-BROWN May I welcome the officials, players and supporters of Norwich United FC on this Tuesday evening and hope after their long mid-week journey they are refreshed quickly and ready to play this Ryman League match. Of course it is an important match for both teams, even if for totally different reasons. And after hopefully an enjoyable match the club officials during which would have sampled some warm hospitality within the boardroom. Under the careful eye of Sue our boardroom boss, it’s nice to know that we as a club are always praised for supplying a warm welcome to visiting officials. On the matter of hospitality, I will

once again get on my soapbox! I was only discussing with a committee member of Wroxham on Saturday, who I must say put the red carpet out for us even though they were short staffed last Saturday - it was very much appreciated in the circumstances, but as I said this committee member was saying how much they enjoyed the warm welcome they received when they visited us. But as I said ALL clubs will receive the same standard of a warm welcome at the SCT, even though we may not always have received the same standard visiting their club. Since I have been involved with this club whilst they have played
in the Ryman North, the standards of the hospitality, in my opinion, being offered by some clubs has dropped to an unacceptable standard. I believe it is part of this beloved game to ensure that all visiting officials, visiting supporters and any other guests should always receive a warm welcome, but specifically regarding boardroom hospitality, ALL of our guests will receive the same high standard that I believe they deserve whether we win or not. And to ensure this standard continues we have Sue our boardroom boss treating all as equal, I just wish that other clubs within the league ensured as part of their membership that
CHAIRMAN’S NOTES
hospitality in the boardroom was given at a high standard rather than hit and miss. I was recently advised by our secretary that the Ryman Sponsorship will end at the end of this season.
will always be welcome at this club, so whoever is going to try and fill the sponsorship role with this league that we all love will have a large set of shoes to fill. I am also advised that Macron are ceasing their involvement at the end of the season.
I was first involved with a club playing in the Ryman League in the season 2006-7 (some 11 years ago it was Maidstone United) and I fully understand that all these companies that get involved with football sponsorship are run as a professional businesses.
They supplied the bench wear for the management within this league and I understand that Mitre are taking their place and I’d like to welcome them to the league and thank Macron for their involvement over the years.
Therefore they must see a return – it may not be financial – so they have to ensure that by having their name associated with in this case the Isthmian League that there were benefits for to all parties.
Unfortunately, due to the price structure, we were always able to find a supplier with a more beneficial product and price and so unfortunately we did not use the Macron Kit for the first-team or the academy.
Well on this occasion I believe with regard to the Ryman Group involvement to our league, we as member clubs throughout their time sponsoring not only the league but other cup competitions, we were the winners, and we must remember that they also through their sister company involvements always ensured the ladies that attended the annual dance were presented with a small gift.
So until this changes, we as a club will continue using the ERREA product from Ian our own Supplier in Sussex, who I feel we have a strong and honest business relationship with, and he supports this club over and above his responsibilities so we have made plans to work together for the next 5 years.
So I feel that we will certainly miss their involvement, so I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone at the Ryman Group for their support and involvement over the years, and I would say that any member of the group
On the 9th January, we started our one year Apprenticeship Scheme at Long Lane in Kidbrooke. As of Friday I’m delighted to say that we had 32 cohorts attending, so a great personal sincere thanks must be given to both Ian (my Director of Football) and Darren Ryan from our education provider for ensuring that this course

“I personally do not feel that the process, as it was administered by the FA, was correct” actually started; both of them were burning the mid night oil to ensure this was a success to the club. We are looking for 40 cohorts and so if you are interested in joining and making up these EIGHT places to join our Apprenticeship Scheme – a scheme that will give you a good education; a coaching qualification as well as paying a nominal weekly sum – so if interested either come to the boardroom and ask for Ian or read the course details and contact numbers as advertised within the match day programme. I have left this part to the end as I feel very strongly about it! You will all have read that our captain Scott Kinch was up in front of the

FA last Monday fully supported by the club and myself on the day. Against unsubstantiated and unfounded allegations, unfortunately, although it took all day, Scott was found guilty of the alleged charge resulting in him being suspended from all football for nine games and a fine of £1,000.00. I personally do not feel that the process, as it was administered by the FA, was correct and therefore I have instigated a complaint, with regard to the content of the process. Secondly I feel that had we been allowed legal representation on the day, we could have proved the charge unfounded.
Therefore, I am awaiting the judicial services department within the FA to advise me of my options. By losing Scott from our team selection is a very great blow to Tommy and his players, but now is the time for all the players to come up to the mark until Scott returns. And I hope for the benefit of the good name of the club, I can get matters resolved that will allow Scott to return sooner than later to play the sport he loves. I hope you enjoy the match. ASSISTANT MANAGER’S NOTES
ALEX
O’BRIEN Good evening everyone and welcome to another Tuesday night under the lights at Bayliss Avenue, especially our visitors from Norwich. Saturday’s game at Wroxham was one that we thought we could go there and stamp our authority on and come away with the three points. But football being football it’s never a script and for long periods we were chasing the game! We worked a real good goal early on to lead and then conceded a really bad goal – we huffed and puffed towards the end with ten men, but we didn’t do
enough to win the game. Officiating is a hard job to do and all you want is consistency in football, and in the build up to both of Aaron’s card’s I would have been proud of in my day battling away in the middle of midfield – they were foul challenges that other weeks are booking and so you can see why players get frustrated. But we’ve got to get on with and bottom line is we didn’t! We lost our shape, our discipline and organisation and it cost us. Our last home game obviously was another big disappointment, but
you know it was a weird day. In the warm up, I think was the first sign I saw when I thought we weren’t right, and it just didn’t get going at all. For me to get in the car to drive home on a Saturday and think what can I take from today, what positives were there? And anyone who saw the game just couldn’t as there were none. Thing is, that we know that we can win a game of football – we’ve had a nice little run; the trick now is to get back on that run as quickly as

possible as it’s easy to lose football games, and it’s just as hard to win games! And when you get on a winning streak you want to keep that going for as long as possible, and that’s what we’ve got to do. But you can’t do that as individuals we’ve got to do it as a side and as a squad! Performance and work rate is the first thing and by having these two games at home this week what better opportunity can we have? If we get that we’ll have a chance – early in the season we didn’t look like scoring but no we’re creating a lot of chances by are letting in sloppy

goals. So it’s turned on its head but if we get performance work-rate togetherness right we can beat anyone in this league whilst if we carry players we’ll struggle. If we all sing off of the same hymn sheet we’re a good side! Tonight we’re up against a good organised side who of course beat us up there. They caught us on the break a couple of times and by us having ten men we were chasing the game, and they beat us right at the death. So we know that they’re a fight side, organised and work hard… but you know what? So are we! Our backing at home is getting
better and better by the game and is now really good. We were all disappointed last time out here – everyone was gutted. Every player, every member of staff we were gutted as you’d come out in you numbers and just as we get that support and we’ve got momentum going that you want to keep by winning games and then we played Cheshunt. With your backing we’ll get there again, so please get behind the boys tonight as I know you will… Enjoy the game. Alex O’Brien First-Team Assistant Manager

NORWICH UNITED
On the back of two consecutive defeats to Cheshunt and Wroxham, Thamesmead Town know they need to kick the losing habit fast or face a slide down the table.
Prior to the cancellation, Norwich had been beaten 3-1 by Brightlingsea Regent, which brought an end to their three game winning run.
Tonight they welcome Norwich United, who sit just places and four points ahead of the Mead in the table.
The two sides met on 26 November with Norwich recording a slender 2-1 victory, with Liam Jackson’s 94th minute strike snatching the home side all three points.
Norwich were afforded the luxury of a weekend off from competitive football, with the postponement of their clash with Bowers & Pitsea, so will be fresh ahead of this match.
The Mead could leap from Witham Town should they get the victory, while a three-point haul for Norwich would see them close the gap on Tilbury above them to just one point.
CLUB HISTORY
THE OPPOSITION
The Club was founded in 1903 as Poringland and District F C as a village side 5 miles from Norwich. The Club played in the Norwich & District League before joining the newly formed Anglian Combination in 1965. After winning the Norfolk Junior Cup in 1979 beating Bradenham Wanderers 5-2, in 1981 beating Wroxham Reserves both at Carrow Road and the Anglian Combination Junior League Cup. In 1981 3-2 against Acle, senior status was achieved for the first time in our history in 1982. Also in 1983/84 season we won the Anglian Combination Senior Cup beating Bradenham Wanderers 2-1. Continuing success forced the Club to move to the Gothic Social Club in Norwich for the 1985/86 season, a campaign that saw us lose 4-1 to Norwich City Reserves at Carrow Road in the Norfolk Senior Cup. A year later we reached the final again only to lose yet again 2-1 to Great Yarmouth.
In 1987 the Club changed its name to Norwich United and Paul Chick was appointed manager. In his first season we finished runners up in the Anglian Combination Premier Division, the following season we
won the coveted Sterry Cup.
lose 1-0 To Dereham Town.
Norwich United joined the Jewson League Division One in 1989/90 season and finished runners up.
In October 2012 Damian Hilton was appointed first team manager. In season 2013/14 Damian brought in John Edridge as his assistant and first team coach, in their first full season together The Planters reached the last 32 in the FA Vase and 6th place in the Thurlow Nunn Premier League.
Unable to be promoted due to ground facilities we won Division One the following season and moved to our current ground at Plantation Park for the 1991/92 season in the Premier Division. We finished 5th in the league and surpassed our ambitions by winning the Jewson League Cup beating Gorleston 5-2 after a 2-2 draw at Carrow Road. Season 2001/02 was to prove very memorable, for after spending some time back in Division One, Paul Franklin in his first season as manager assisted by Donny Pye won the Division One title and lost to Clacton in the semi-final of the League Cup. So once again Premier Division football was back at Plantation Park. Season 2005/06 saw The Planters reach the Final of The Norfolk Senior Cup at Carrow Road, only to
Season 2014/15 saw the Planters reach the last 16 in the FA Vase and for the first time in their history win the Premier League Title and were winners of the League Cup completing a memorable double a massive achievement for Damian & John. Season 2015/16 saw us retain the Premier League Title a massive achievement from the players and Manager John Edridge assisted by Steve Eastaugh and Darren Plowman. The Club owes much of it’s success to the continuing support of Club Chairman Mr. John Hilditch, President Mr.Michael Miles and Vice Chairman Mr. Peter Bowyer.
