ALEX O’BRIEN
THE MANAGEMENT Good evening everyone and welcome back to Princes Park to the players, officials and supporters of the Casuals It only seems like yesterday that we last met!!! Strange how fixtures come together like this every so often isn’t it? The last two Saturday’s have summed up our season – the league game here with Casuals was a lot better – to get a point against a side battling for the title is a good point! It just shows the frustration really for me, and Tom and Craig, that the players have to believe in their ability, they have to believe that they can do that to teams in and around them – to teams at the top as well as teams at the bottom. It’s frustrating when you see the last couple of performances and then you watch us again last Saturday at East Grinstead – it’s like watching a Jekyll and Hyde side – that’s the most frustrating part for us as we know these players as they’re much better than actually the league table suggests.
It’s been no secret that Tom signed Donovan a while back, but sadly he had some personal issues that he had to sort out and move forward.
Which is what makes tonight another really tough game – the league game was tight and so there’s no reason to think that tonight will be anything but!
But now that that’s been done, hopefully that means everything’s out of the way for him so that he can concentrate on getting fit and getting back to the levels that he’s used to.
After Saturday one last thing to everyone – KEEP WARM! Seriously it was a cold one at the weekend, wrap up tonight and hopefully we’ll warm you up with a place in the next round!
Charlie Taylor is another one – a good footballer and so it’s up to myself and Tom to get the best out of them. But on paper what fantastic additions to our squad – so welcome both!
And as these are my last notes before the 25th, may I wish you all Seasons Greetings! We all know how important and traditional the next 12 days are – four intriguing games and ironically two of our longer trips to face Horsham and Shoreham…
Tom and I have both said many times this season, and something that I know in non-league football is that you can go and watch a team five times and the day that you go and play them they’ll make six changes and they’ll have two injured and one suspended - its never as clean as it should be.
Merry Christmas everyone! Alex O’Brien First-Team Assistant Manager

Hello everyone and welcome to Princes Park, where we take on Corinthian Casuals in the Bostik League South. Good evening everyone. Saturday was a welldeserved point from a match which we could have easily won. What was pleasing was that we played for the full 90 minutes and didn’t tail off towards the end which we have done on a couple of occasions recently.

It really was good midfield play from Tom and Solomon and a good all-round team effort. We were disappointed not to have held out for the three points and conceded a late equaliser, but all in all Proud Supplier of Kent FA’s Print & Design

it was a much better performance against the side we must remember are second in the league. The late red card for Jake I thought looked harsh considering he clearly slipped, before fouling the player and we will miss him during his ban as we need to continue to build on Saturday’s performance going forward into the countdown to the Festive Season. Enjoy the game and keep warm! Thanks as always for your support. Leon Smith First-Team Captain

Honours even on a bitterly cold Saturday at Princes Park. For the Mead, this was a much-better performance from the midweek derby defeat to Faversham Town, as the home side came agonisingly close to their first win in six league games. Casuals arrived at Princes second in the table and looking to cut Lewes lead at the top from four points. In the end, they were fortunate to come from behind with a very fortuitous equaliser in the final 10 minutes. With Tom O’Connor behind most of the home sides’ good things, it took until the 70th minute for the Mead to edge in front as Danny Parish arrived late at the far post to score his seventh goal for the club in just his eleventh game. Sadly for the Mead, the recent poor fortune in front of our own net surfaced again as substitute DelgardoWWW.TTFCOFFICIAL.ORG
Hibbert was allowed far too much time to literally roll the ball over the line past an exposed Lewis Cary with a little less than 10 minutes left to salvage what was an unlikely point for the visitors. As the temperature dropped, sadly there was little to warm the fans who braved the ever-increasing Arctic conditions in the first half. Tom went close a couple of times and Laurent Mendy shot across the face of goal, before Danny then brilliantly angled a header from Bode Anidugbe’s pin-point cross onto the left post. Casuals almost went ahead when Uzun’s dipping shot beat Lewis only to crash back off of the home wood work – it was ironic because as the Casuals midfielder unleashed his pile-driver his bench was preparing to substitute him! Indeed just a few moments later, Danny was on hand to sweep the home side in front and that was followed by chances for both Tom and

Bode that tested the Casuals keeper. Then with less than 10 minutes to go substitute Delgardo-Hibbert dribbled the ball over the line for the equaliser with possibly his first touch to grab what for long periods had seen an unlikely Casuals point. In stoppage time, Jake McIntyre was unfortunate with a clumsy tackle that saw him receive a straight red card as he slipped going into an attempted challenge – it just summed up the Mead’s afternoon! There were few pluses for the gaffer on such a cold day, but two were the late introductions into Mead colours of Donovan Simmonds and Charlie Taylor. CORINTHIAN CASUALS
Recent CLUB HISTORY The Corinthian-Casuals Football Club was formed in 1939 following the merger of the two great amateur sides bearing those names. The Corinthian-Casuals Football Club had played only one game when World War II broke out, though it really wasn’t our fault. Come the recommencement of football in 1945, the club proudly retook its place in the Isthmian League, were it would remain for another 39 years. The 1973/74 season was an historic milestone; heralding the end of the amateur. As if in empathy, Corinthian-Casuals were relegated, for the first time in their history, into Isthmian League Division 2. There they would stay there until 1978, when further relegation to the basement followed a third bottom finish in four years. A number of steady seasons were played out before new ground-sharing rules created by the Isthmian League saw the club unceremoniously thrown out in 1983/84. This coming after 65 years of continuous membership, and in spite of a 5th place finish, simply because the club’s long nomadic history meant it shared a ground, thus did not have one of its own. The first season in the Spartan Premier League was a disaster and a second consecutive relegation occurred. Next year, the Corinthian-
Casuals fortunes took an upturn when they bounced back as Champions, remaining in the Premier Division for a further 12 seasons. 1988 was a truly historic year, with the club securing its first ever home ground, merging with the crippled Tolworth FC, thus taking over the running of their facilities. This season also saw the Corinthian-Casuals Tour of Brazil, when legendary Brazilian international, Socrates, donned the famous chocolate and pink colours for a special game. A runners-up berth in 1993 and winning the League Cup in 1995 were the highlights of the Spartan League era, before the club switched to the Combined Counties League in 1996. This was a greatly improved experience. In the first season, a runners-up spot was achieved to at last win back our place in the Isthmian League. The team’s best finish for many years, 5th in 2000/01, saw them miss promotion by a meagre 3 points. In May, the club toured Brazil again, winning the Sao Paulo Athletic Invitation Cup. Victories were achieved over Paulistano and Sao Paulo AC, though SC Corinthians Paulista’s U21’s inflicted a 2-0 defeat. The 2010/11 season was memorable as the club lifted the Surrey Senior Cup for the first time in 57 years when Leatherhead were defeated 2-0 in the final at Gander Green Lane. This triumph was a fitting
tribute to Brian Adamson who stood down as manager at the end of the season. In January 2015, CorinthianCasuals embarked on an historic tour to Brazil to play the twotime FIFA World Club Champions SC Corinthians Paulista. The match played out in front of 30,000 fans in attendance and screened live on two national TV stations. Although the final score was 3-0 to the hosts, Casuals held the professionals to 0-0 for 78 minutes. Corinth won the hearts of many millions of fans in the week spent in Sao Paulo. In 2015, Former Sutton United Reserve and Youth Manager James Bracken took charge and propelled the club to their best ever finishes in consecutive seasons. A 3-point deduction by the FA took Casuals out of the playoff placings however, in his second season, Bracken led Corinth to the playoff final against Dorking Wanderers, drawing 0-0 and missing out through a penalty shoot-out. With James Bracken now in charge for a third season, we look forward with quiet optimism to another year as the eternal underdogs, punching above their weight. The Corinthian-Casuals Football Club continues to take great pride in its rich and glorious history, and still so very much more in its present day standing as the highest ranked amateur club in England.
