THE BOARDROOM

PAUL

BOWDENBROWN

May I welcome the officials, players and supporters of Brightlingsea Regent FC to our home at SCT this Saturday afternoon, and hope after an enjoyable game and refreshments, everyone has a safe journey home. May I also say a hello to all of our season ticket holders, all of you have made this season totally awesome, as it’s great to see families enjoying themselves either on an afternoon or an evening watching their local team. I hope you have all enjoyed the Mead Report that Mike has been sending direct to you, if you have not given us your e-mail address please do so. May I also welcome the Barming u/10s who have travelled up from Barming in Kent to join us this afternoon, at half-time they will be involved in a penalty shoot-out. I would also like to wish the players the very best for their game on Sunday which I understand is a Cup Semi-Final. Well since we last played at home we have lost our first-team manager, I can confirm following a meeting I had with Terry on the Monday after our game at Maldon & Tiptree on Saturday, that we both felt it correct due to the fact that we felt we were both going in separate ways, that he left with immediate effect. Monday 04

THAMESMEAD TOWN The Official Matchday Programme

was a very disappointing day for me personally but I believe the decision made was the correct one for the club. When Terry left I though a number of players would leave with him but I never expected the number that did! So it was left to Ian Docker our Director of Football, Gary Ryan our u/21s manager, Craig Gibson and two senior players Andy Walker and Paul Vines to ensure we had a team to go to Tilbury last Saturday. To be honest, although we had at least 7 u/21s in the squad not one of those players involved let the club down, they all went out there to play for the badge of this club I was so proud of them all, even though we played a large majority of the game with 10 men we only lost 1-0 to a penalty. What a future we have at this club if this is the quality of player that we are bringing through the academy and the u/21s. Hopefully you will see for yourselves this afternoon what many of us watched last weekend in

awe of the belief these players have. Whilst writing about the matters of the last two weeks I would like to personally like to thank all of you, I need not mention your names you know who you are, for your support and undoubting belief that this club deserves to be successful. It is a very exciting time for the club as we have just appointed a full time Working in the Community Officer, Steve Rous. Steve will report to Ian and be responsible for visiting all of the schools in the area, offering them a FOC Coaching service, because both Ian and I feel that we have to bring the youth into the club player pathway and the only way is to go to them. Hopefully through my u/11s FOC season ticket we will be able to bring their parents to the games also home and away. Home matches I have agreed that the parents can come in for a reduced price of ÂŁ5. So when you see Steve driving around the community in his white van you will know we are doing out bit for the young ones of our community.

THE BOARDROOM

“What a future we have at this club if this is the quality of player that we are bringing through the academy and the u/21s. Hopefully you will see for yourselves this afternoon what many of us watched last weekend”

Off the field I have made a decision, after the latest turmoil within the club, I have decided to see through my five-year development plan I prepared in January of this year. Believe me it is very ambitious but I know we can meet all of challenges resulting in this club becoming very successfully but rather than just a Ryman North football club it will become a professional unit. With clear pathways, this development plan was put before a number of visitors from the FA and the Football Foundation that visited us in the last two weeks, and they felt it very inspiring but as I said to them words are cheap I am only interested in positive actions resulting in the club achieving all of their aims.

I also feel that although I agreed to a change from the normal solid green first-team kit to green and white stripes last season, on reflection I have decided to consider once again choosing another new kit that will reflect what I am trying to achieve within the club. On this matter I have asked Mike Green to come up with some ideas that I can put forward to our new kit suppliers. My fellow director Kai Isaksen has agreed to supply out kit for the foreseeable future, they will also assist us to operate our own online shop to sell our club merchandise, which hopefully will allow us to service the supporters’ wishes much easier than at present. Well at this time I have received a serious number of applications

THE BOARDROOM

for the vacant manager’s position, I am very surprised at the high standard of qualifications of those applicants who have applied. I have asked Ian to prepare a short list so that an interview panel can sit and conclude by the 25th so I can make an announcement if at all possible before I go into hospital on the 26th of this month for major surgery that will require me to be away from the club for a number of weeks.

know who you are and I hope you will continue to support me on this new journey that we start at the end of this season. May I thank all of the supporters new and old, young and old for agreeing to become regular visitors at Bayliss Avenue.

May I now take the opportunity to thank everyone associated internally with this fine club for their continued unselfish support they have given especially Dave Joy, Ian Docker and Mike Green.

May I thank all of the staff who work for the SCT they all know who they are, I thank you for your unselfish support sometimes during harassing times, and I cannot finish without thanking the Peabody Group/ Trust Thamesmead especially Mick Hays, Dawn and Richard without whose help had not been forthcoming we would not be here at this time.

All the Clubs VIPs and all those too many to name separately but you all

I therefore ask for their continued support and I only hope we can go

forward together to achieve both of our aims. As I have said previously I would like to put on record my thanks for what Terry has achieved at the club since he took over after Keith left, and I wish him well for the future, Monday was a very disappointing day for me personally but it was felt by both parties agreed we would go our separate ways. Now let’s enjoy our last match of this season and support those young players that we have thrown into the fray I have no worry that they will fill the boots of these players that have decided to leave us. Paul Bowden-Brown Chairman & Managing Director

THE PEABODY TRUST

STEPHEN I have really enjoyed following Thamesmead Town’s achievements this season. The club has played a role in the community for 31 years and play a valued part at Sporting Club Thamesmead which you are visiting today. Sporting Club Thamesmead first opened its doors in 2013 when it was officially launched by Sir Trevor Brooking CBE. In the past 12 months they have welcomed more than 120,000 people through the door who have participated in sports, education and social activities. These will continue throughout the summer and offer everything from family cycle events

HOWLETT to Zumba™, football and keep fit classes. The community is at the heart of everything we do at Peabody, whether it is the here and now or our plans for the future. Since February we have been consulting with residents about our proposals for South Thamesmead over the next ten years. Since the football season began we have also worked on a number of other initiatives including: • Supporting Thamesmead residents through our employment, training, volunteering and health and wellbeing programmes • Improving the homes of residents living in the Moorings

• Building a new zebra crossing on Yarnton Way, making it easier for people to cross the busy road • Installing signage, making it easier for residents and visitors to find their way around • Consulting with residents about a separate proposal to build 1,500 quality new homes along Harrow Manor Way There is a lot more lined up in the future too. May I wish you every success with today’s match and take this opportunity to wish you a great summer. Stephen Howlett Chief Executive, Peabody

THE UNDER 21S

THE UNDER 21s with Gary Ryan

Well what a week that was... The sudden departure of the previous management and several players provided a great opportunity for many of our outstanding Under-21 lads to step up to the plate and sample senior football for the first time at Tilbury. It was certainly seized with both hands as many of them adapted well and were, for much of the game, more than a match for their opponents. The early dismissal of Joe merely led to a 10% increase in work rate all round, and as the game wore on, only one team were looking to push forward. All in all, a positive Saturday afternoon’s work by all concerned. We then completed an excellent few days with a resounding 3-0 success 10

THAMESMEAD TOWN The Official Matchday Programme

against a strong Great Wakering Rovers Under-21 side on Monday night, with several other squad members contributing in rounding off a superb season. So an ideal opportunity to showcase the work we’ve put in since September arises again today - I’m sure you’ll feel as proud as I do when you watch the boys pull on the Mead shirt this afternoon. I would like to take this opportunity on a personal level, to thank Terry, Tony and Darren for the tremendous work they put in this season in developing these players, while also acknowledging the help, support and encouragement of Craig, Carly, Docks, and my own support staff of Glen and

Paul Taylor, and Richard Green. The magnificent backing I have received from Paul Bowden Brown in my work with the Under-21’s this season has been very much appreciated, along with Paul Turner and Mike Green, as we look to push on. We all appreciate the support and encouragement you’ve given to the team throughout the season, and look forward to seeing you all back again in August as we take the next step in what promises to be an exciting journey forward for all concerned. Enjoy the Summer. Gary Ryan

FROM THE SECRETARY’S DESK

FROM THE SECRETARY’S DESK Good afternoon everyone and welcome to the SCT for our final Ryman League match of the 2015/16 season. I welcome the players, management and supporters and hope they enjoy their brief stay with us. Since our last home match much has changed, manager Terry Spillane has left the club along with the management team. I thank Terry, Darren and Tony for their efforts throughout the season and wish them well for any future work in football they get. Our Play-off hopes finally faltered, 3 draws in 4 games saw us lose valuable points and indeed drop out of the race for a play-off position.

Moving on to today’s match, there is nothing on it but it would be nice to finish the season on a winning note, but I expect a tough match against a side that has again put in some outstanding results during the season. I briefly need to mention our performance last Saturday at Tilbury, having to draft in several members of the u/21 squad we gave an outstanding performance and I would like to thank all those concerned the display did the green shirt proud. Thanks also to Andy Walker, Gary Ryan and Ian Docker who pitched in to help sort out the playing personnel. There is much time, patience and dedication to running a football club at any level and club Chairman Mr Paul Bowden-Brown should be

acknowledged and thanked for his efforts throughout the season. I know first-hand how much time, finance and resources he uses to keep the club going. Thank you too everyone else who help us throughout the season, Erika and Charlotte Cooper for their Man of The Match award although I suspect Jay Porter must have his own wine cellar by now! Finally you the supporters, thank you for your continued support, gates have improved this season. I hope you’ve enjoyed the football this season and hope you will come back and support us again next season. Enjoy your summer! Dave Joy Club Secretary

BRIGHTLINGSEA

REGENT

CLUB INFO Nickname: The R’s Founded: 2005 Ground: North Road Chairman: Terry Doherty Manager: James Webster Last Season: 6th

With both teams now out of the race for the final Play-off place only pride is at stake this evening when Thamesmead Town host Brightlingsea Regent. Looking at the table the two sides have had similar seasons which ultimately has ended in them finishing just outside of the top six. Both locked on 74 points siting one above the other in 9th and 10th respectively - nothing separated the two clubs. Both have picked up 21 wins, 11 losses and 13 defeats from their 45 fixtures. Both have scored 74 times but Brightlingsea do have a better defense conceding 55 times whilst the Mead have let in 61. Odds on a draw must be high.

THE OPPOSITION

CLUB HISTORY

2015/2016 will see Brightlingsea Regent FC embark upon their second season at step 4 and Isthmian League football.

After a nine year absence this will be their fifth season back at step 6 or above in the football pyramid after dropping out of the league in 2001/2002 having completed 10 years within the Eastern Counties league. Brightlingsea Regent, previously Brightlingsea United, have completed around 100 years of competitive football. Firstly in the Border league, between 1908/1909 to 1970 when they joined The Essex Senior league for 20 years having much success, before going on to join the then Jewson League in 1990 and then back to the Border league in 2001/2002. Brightlingsea United FC and Regent Park Rangers FC amalgamated at the start of 2005/06 season to become Brightlingsea Regent Football Club. During this time the squad and club have continued to grow and develop, having success in the Border league Division 1 and cup. In 2009/2010 new Management team James Webster and Mark Gridley guided Regent to a 4th

place finish and followed up the following season in 2010/2011 by winning the Kent Blaxill Premier border league in a superb season by playing 34, winning 31, drawing 2 and losing just 1 game. In season 2011-12, James Webster added Tom Rothery to the Management team in September and they finished their first season back at step 6 with a creditable 5th place finish. They also reached the quarterfinal of the Essex Senior Cup before losing to League 2 side Dagenham & Redbridge. The 2012-13 season was successful for many reasons. Firstly a FA Vase cup run, which was the longest in the clubs history before bowing out in

round 3 (last 64). The club gained promotion back to step 5 and the Premier Division with a third place finish which included a 22 game unbeaten run during the season. In the final game of the season the team won the First Division KO Cup final with a 1-0 victory over Gt Yarmouth. The 2013-14 season in the Eastern Counties Premier Division again proved to be successful for Brightlingsea; gaining promotion after finishing Runners-up to Hadleigh Utd, losing out on the final day by goal difference. The club also reached the last 16 of the FA Vase and in doing so again created history.

FEATURE INTERVIEW

FEATURE INTERVIEW:

SAM ORISATOKI Our end of season special interview sees The Mead sit down with one of the Mead’s rising starts this season - SAM ORISATOKI

20

THAMESMEAD TOWN The Official Matchday Programme

FEATURE INTERVIEW

After weeks of trying to tie down a young man who we are all so proud of here at TTFC, and finally for the last home game of the season, we’ve done it! And so for our last Player Interview of the season, we catch up with the Mead player who has this season received an international call-up – we’ve been talking to SAM ORISOTAKI… We started by asking Sam how he came to Thamesmead Town in the first place – he told us, “I’ve been at Thamesmead since I was 14 years old. I remember my first game for The Mead playing against Corinthian – we won 4-2 and I scored two of those goals.” “Being at Thamesmead has taught me a lot especially perseverance as I really had to wait for my window opportunity and fortunately I took it! In my mind, the biggest influence on my game is probably my first manager Ben Flynn at St. More Juniors. He was the first person to tell me that I was a good player and he never let me think less of myself. I’m not sure if I would have gone on to play for Thamesmead’s youth team without him.” Sam received that first England Schoolboys call up earlier this season, and the obvious question we had to ask was “what was it like to get “the”

call?!” With a huge grin on his face, Sam told us, “I received a letter two days after the final trail which stated I had been selected to be in the squad with the England Schoolboys and if I’m honest, I didn’t feel that I would be selected because of the talent that was on display there. So when I read it I was ecstatic! I called all my friends letting them know... it was a good night for me!” That first weekend get together was held at the Lilleshall National Centre in Telford before the squad had a weekend based in Valencia – Sam described the experience for us. “Lilleshall was great! The facilities were second to none and the grass on the pitches made it feel as though you were playing on a carpet! We then went to Valencia for a pre-season friendly against Villarreal, and I’d hoped that we may have met Gary Neville

who was the boss of Valencia at the time. Sadly we didn’t manage to meet the man himself unfortunately, but playing against Villarreal was great, the quality of the players was unreal! Their technical ability truly lived up to the Spanish stereotype which meant that defensively the game was tough but we managed to get a good result.” We then asked Sam what it’s been like walking out in an England shirt for a competitive game in this country in the Centenary Shield – a feeling that so few experience... “Honestly you can’t” he said. “Seeing a large crowd roaring in support is an immense feeling. You’ll never be more up for a game than when you represent your country. It’s something I’ll never forget. How good was the squad? Well, there’s a few, in fact, there’s too many to name. The whole squad will go places – after all we are “International Champions”!

THE ACADEMY

THE

ACADEMY

The Academy season has finally come to an end and I would like to thank everyone who has helped make this a season of transition, yet a massive step in the right direction and our thanks to the Peabody Group for their support. Everyone at the club has been delighted to see some of the academy players step up into the U21 side and I would like to thank Gary Ryan for nurturing them and preparing them for the rigors of first-team football, which culminated in Sam Karoma coming off the bench against Tilbury last Saturday. I would also like to thank Craig Gibson for his input experience and support during the course of the season.

On the classroom side of our academy scheme, I would like to thank our education provider SCL and their tutor Phil Messenger, who also stepped on to the training field to assist the lads with their football training. His professional work ethic has been excellent and both the chairman and I would like to say a massive thank you to him for his hard work and efforts. At the start of the season, Paul and I met Gary Cook from the Business Academy Bexley and we were delighted that he wanted to continue his partnership with the club, allowing lads from the school to play alongside our in house scholars .They represented our club with

professionalism and a maturity beyond their years and I thank them for it. The hard work continues and we are now looking to recruit our new intake of players for the 2016/ 2017 season as we look to get the academy to a level we are all happy with, an academy that will be the building block of this great club . Finally I would like to thank our chairman for his enthusiasm and passion in believing in the academy and helping me to achieve the vision we have for this club. MAN OF THE MATCH AWARD

MAN OF THE MATCH AWARD Once again, we’re delighted that Erica Cooper and her daughter Charlotte are generously sponsoring our Man of the Match award this year.

Throughout the 2015/16 season, Thamesmead Town will once again be presenting the Mead Man of the Match award after each home game. Again, we are indebted to Erica Cooper and her daughter, Charlotte, for donating the prize to the club. This year, the awarding of the prize will take place on the pitch as the Mead leave the field. So hang around for a few minutes at the end of the game to see who is the recipient of the Cooper Man of the Match award. COMMERCIAL CORNER

COMMERCIAL NEWS

with Mike Green

Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen and for the final time welcome to the SCT as season 2015/2016 is consigned to the history books. A warm welcome to our visitors from Brightlingsea who have made the trip down from the Essex coast near Colchester to be with us. Like ourselves they were in the Play-Off hunt almost until the end, but have hesitated too much at the final hurdle, and are destined to another season in the Ryman League. Our season on the field ends

today, but the hard work behind the scenes for next season starts now and over the coming weeks, we’ll once again start the search for advertisers and sponsors for 2016/2017. Interested or know anyone who might be, please drop me an email at commercialttfc@live.co.uk We’ve a number of things on the drawing board for next season, and rest assured that things wont stop during the summer... So keep an eye on the official website (www. thamesmeadtownfc.com); our twitter feed (@ThamesmeadTFC); or find us on facebook.

See you all for pre-season and have a great summer... Greenie If your company would like to sponsor a forthcoming home game next season, please see Greenie TODAY or contact him on commercialttfc@live.co.uk or alternatively 07845 751319

THE CLEAN SHEET CHALLENGE

CLEAN SHEET CHALLENGE

11

CLEAN SHEET TOTAL Following the success of last season’s Clean Sheet Challenge, the club is delighted that once again this season we are seeking your support to raise money for charity, but this year we’re doing it for two charities rather than just one! Last season, Rob Budd and Vicente Mansanet between them kept 14 clean sheets as we raised money for Cancer Research UK – the final total will be revealed soon, and it is worth waiting for! Throughout this season, we’re delighted once again to be working with our friends from Cancer Research, but we will also be raising funds for London’s Air Ambulance, the registered charity that delivers an advanced trauma team to critically injured people in London in a bright red helicopter! We’ll learn more about what the LAA do in an upcoming programme. If you want to contribute - and we hope that you will - we’re in the process of setting up a Just Giving web page for this season, or alternatively there’s always the old fashioned way of filling out the sponsorship form that you’ll find in the boardroom!
