ISSUE 23 Welcome
Good evening everyone!
Hopefully, it’ll be third time lucky with today’s game for visitors Guernsey in that today is the third time they’ve planned the trip to Princes Park! On the first occasion, the Mead were still involved in the Buildbase FA Trophy and our tie with the Met Police, while the second occasion, just before Christmas was the first of the two games we’ve lost to the weather… So, what do we have for you in today’s programme? We have the action from our last
home game with Whyteleafe and we speak to OB for the first time in 2018 and finish off with a trip to the Chairman’s office. Finally, and on a personal note, I’d like to thank you all for the messages of support that I’ve had since the sudden death of my Dad two weeks ago. I’m not going to say that life’s easy at the moment, but we’re getting there and hopefully things will slowly get back to normal! Greenie

PAUL BOWDEN-BROWN THE CHAIRMAN
May I extend a warm and friendly welcome to the officials, players and supporters of Guernsey FC to Princes Park the club’s new home for the next five years on this cold and wet January evening, and after enjoyable game and some refreshments they all have a safe journey home. As all those that were involved with the club will know that the team and management had an enjoyable visit to Guernsey last year when we played them in the FA Cup. Everyone from Guernsey ensured that we were looked after from the minute we landed on the island until we left. So, as a gesture from me, I arranged for the team to stay overnight and have a meal together rather than arriving on the morning of the game and leaving at the end.
To be honest going in at half time 1-0 down, I still thought we would win the game, and then just after the start of the second half we level the scores. We looked very strong, but by allowing them the opportunity of a very fine shot on goal we went down to 2-1 and from that point we made no progress at all in their half of the pitch. The game started getting techy with the referee bringing out his cards giving a red to both teams.
I look forward to revisiting the island on the 10th February which is three days after my 71st birthday, so maybe I will have nip or two in celebration.
To be honest I thought the referee had a bad game with no common sense used, but how many times have you read these comments within my programme notes this season!
Well here we are once again playing at home after our recent trip to South Park where, if I am honest we did not do ourselves justice on the pitch.
The result was not good as the majority of the teams around the play-off places all won so if we are to climb the league table, we will have to change things on the pitch.

But as I have said on numerous occasions these are always my personal views, I have a well experienced manager at this club that has previously been in this position and has got it right. As I said to Tommy the buck stops with him and I, and at this time I fully support the actions that he is taking, I just hope that the players once they cross the white line remember what has been told to them pre-game and are able to achieve the required results, rather than thinking they know better. Be assured I am showing my commitment to this club by supporting the squad we have put together. As I have said I am nearing completion of a plan that I think will make this club a true football club, hopefully coming away from being a one club team and becoming a team with a first team, reserves and a very professional

youth set-up. Negotiations have been slow, but I believe I have now done enough that all parties are in agreement that we should now be in a position to finalise all matters and at that time I will be in a position to announce this news, I feel it is a very exciting times for the club. Finally whilst writing I would, once again, like to thank all of our supporters new and old that have taken opportunity to support the club since our move from Thamesmead. As I walk around the ground I notice a number of old supporters that I am sure have taken the advantage of the community family season ticket offered to all those that live in the proximity of the ground, and a number of new faces that have become regulars, so I would assume that the majority of these supporters are from our landlords Dartford who join us when they are unable to join their team on matchday. Hopefully they take advantage of our Mead Card initiative, it’s not a bad deal being able to gain entrance to our matches for £5 and over 65s for only £2-50, but
WWW.TTFCOFFICIAL.ORG
although our gate is increasing we would always like to see more as I know the team like to play in front of a good size crowd. So please tell all your friends that they can join you enjoying an afternoon or evening watching TTFC be our 12th man and make Princes Park our fortress. I know I took a risk moving the club away from Thamesmead, but all of your actions together with some very good news that I shall announce in the new year have proved that the club needed to move to survive. All we have to do now is ensure we play exciting football that brings in supporters to our matches, and then ensure we get the support of local businesses that will support the club financially, and at this time I am working very hard on ensuring that the football club will become part of the local community. At this time I am looking too recruiting two people to join our friendly club firstly for a commercial person to join our small team at the club. It could be a full-time position or part time, but will totally depend on the type of person applying for
this position. They would be reporting directly to myself, it is a type of job that the right person can develop on their own merits for the benefit of all parties, so if you interested or know someone that would like to apply please make contact directly with myself and I will send a full job description. Secondly I am looking for a person that could bring the club into the 21st century with regard to its website and social media avenues, so if you are a person that feel you could give the club some of your time to ensure this section of the club is updated and monitored for the benefit of the club and its growing supporter base. If you feel this could interest you please make contact and discuss how you feel we could take this matter forward, my contact e-mail for both position is as follows – directorttfc@live.co.uk . Let’s enjoy a good game of football Paul Bowden-Brown Director and Owner

THE MANAGEMENT Good evening everyone and welcome back to Princes Park to the players, officials and supporters of the Guernsey Good evening everyone! Feels a bit like Deja-vu writing these notes as the game before Christmas was of course called off because of the weather – lets hope that we’re luckier tonight. It’s been a tough start to the New Year – there have been positives as we’ve got a lot of players through the door coming back from injury and suspension, but the results have of course been frustrating as we know what these players are capable of and can achieve and not performing to the best of their abilities which is so annoying, but Tom and I have just got to keep getting the message across and hopefully we can go on another run starting tonight! I’ve always said that you’ve got to beat the sides in and around you, but if you look at the league table, that’s something
WWW.TTFCOFFICIAL.ORG
that we’ve been struggling to do recently and that’s not good enough. So, we’ve got to get some momentum and get the games played – its been tough losing the games that we have – and get some wins under our belts whether they be ugly wins or good wins, we just been those three points. Get back in the groove is number one objective and that starts tonight. Tonight, does bring back happy memories from our cup ties from last season and people are still remembering the goal on YouTube – the one that went a “million” miles straight up after being caught in the wind. It was a great day out and a fantastic place to go and we’re all looing forward to the trip next month. Some question why they’re in our league, but I think the players enjoy it – getting on a plane to go to
a game makes them feel a bit special I think. Hopefully tonight can set us up again especially with another tough game against Hastings United due here on Saturday. Anyone who was at the game in Sussex will know how tough that was – to win it in the last two minutes of a game was an unbelievable rollercoaster, but it’ll probably spur them on when they come here at the weekend. Let’s focus on tonight and getting the result that we need – these are two games where on paper we shouldn’t worry about the opposition, lets take care of us first and foremost and do things right that we’ve got to do! Enjoy the game Alex O’Brien First-Team Assistant Manager

Hello everyone and welcome to Princes Park, where we take on Guernsey in the Bostik League South. Good evening everyone. After the first time in what seems like ages because of the number of games that we’ve been having to play, we actually had two training sessions last week which was great as it not only got the boys back together after Christmas, but it was also great to be back working with the Gaffer and OB. and push ourselves forward for ninety minutes. Unfortunately, we were on the wrong end of another result and no points as we conceded a late long-range strike – it hasn’t been the best of starts to 2018, but we all know that with players coming back from suspension and injuries all the time, we must remain focused and ready to graft even harder… Enjoy the game and keep warm. INTRODUCING
GUERNSEY The Green Lions have finally arrived at Princes Park… After two previous postponements this season, Guernsey finally land to face the Mead again for the first time since our two epic Emirates FA Cup ties from last season. The two sides enjoyed the focus and the media attention that came with the first ever FA Cup tie played off of the mainland, with Paul Vines’ goal forever written in the folk-law of the competition as the first goal scored off the mainland… The Mead won the replay after a shoot-out but friendships and relationships were formed forever! And after our move from Bostik North to Bostik South, those rivalries and friendships can be revisited

this evening. But just looking at their results, the Green Lions have recorded just four points thus far from seven trips to Kent this season – a 2-1 win at Faversham Town being their undoubted highlight. Tony Vance and his side will obviously be hoping for better luck tonight than they got on their last two trips to the county since Christmas – a 0-5 defeat at Phoenix was followed by a 0-4 defeat at Sittingbourne eight days ago. But one thing Tommy and OB will be only too aware of and that is the resilience and determination of our visitors which gives us yet another enthralling and fascinating Wednesday night ahead at Princes Park..

Recent CLUB HISTORY Guernsey Football Club was formed in 2011 to offer the island’s elite footballers the opportunity to progress and test themselves on a regular basis outside of the Channel Islands. We are an independent, community amateur football club which play in the Ryman Isthmian League Division One South at Step Four on English football’s nonleague pyramid system. The club is owned and run for the benefit of the local Guernsey community and it plays its home games at the Footes Lane Stadium. The initial idea to establish Guernsey FC was developed during the 2009-10 season when Guernsey’s Senior County Division One representative side enjoyed a successful run in the FA National League System Cup culminating in Guernsey beating the Liverpool County Premier League 5-2 in the final in May 2010. Over the course of the following few months, the club’s founding directors, Steve Dewsnip and Mark Le Tissier, received encouragement from various sources and the island’s local football community to develop our plans for the new club further and were delighted when the member clubs of the Combined Counties League voted by a significant majority on 20 June 2011 to allow Guernsey FC to join Division One of their league. Saturday 6th August 2011 was a historic day for Guernsey FC and the island in general when the club played its inaugural game at Footes Lane against Knaphill FC in the Combined Counties League Division One.
Saturday 6th August 2011 was a historic day for Guernsey FC and the island in general when the club played its inaugural game at Footes Lane against Knaphill FC in the Combined Counties League Division One. The 2012-13 season was a tough campaign. The league campaign saw countless postponed fixtures due to adverse weather and the cup run. In April, Guernsey FC played a staggering 16 games in 30 days. The May bank holiday weekend saw GFC play four games in four days and remarkably secure all 12 points to finish second in the Combined Counties Premier League and gain promotion to the Ryman Isthmian League Division One South. The club’s first season in the Ryman Isthmian Leagues was a constructive campaign and had plenty of highs. The club finished in a respectable fourth place but lost 3-2 away to Leatherhead in the play-off semi-final. Guernsey’s second season in Ryman South was much tougher. Injuries and unavailability left the Green Lions struggling though October and November and it wasn’t until just before Christmas that results picked up. Any hopes of sneaking into the play-offs late on were dashed with a run of four defeats in five games in March. The Green Lions eventually finished 10th in the league before many of the squad were part of the Guernsey FA gold-medal winning side at the 2015 NatWest Island Games in Jersey. Despite a couple of patches of indifferent form in the first half of the 2015-16 season, the Green Lions found themselves third in the table
in the new year and equalled their Ryman South unbeaten record of nine games. But a mixture of poor performances, injuries and bad luck led to a six-game losing run that saw our play-off challenge fade away. The 2016-17 season was GFC’s most challenging yet as they battled against relegation for the first time in their history. It took until the end of September to secure the first victory of the campaign and bad luck hit Tony Vance’s squad with several lengthy injuries and absences to key players. They didn’t manage to win a home game after Christmas, but finally ended their winless away run when they beat Chipstead in February and, ironically, it was their away results that kept them up as two more wins and a draw were enough to keep them ahead of their rivals. There was change off the field as Mark Le Tissier took over as Chairman, but the main highlight was the FA Cup coming to Guernsey for the first time in August amidst a tremendous fanfare that included the famous trophy being displayed at Footes Lane. Dave Rihoy’s second-half brace in the first ever FA-Cup match to be contested outside the maindland secured a replay, but GFC eventually went out on penalties at Thamesmead Town. More youngsters made an impact as Thomas Dodds went on to become a key player having only made his debut at the start of the campaign at just 17 years of age. He went on to scoop five awards at the end-of-season gala.
