WORCESTER CITY Worcester City have found themselves dragged within touching distance of the relegation zone and face a difficult trip to the Eon Visual Media Stadium to take on high-flying North Ferriby United. Worcester sit in 18th-place in the table on 40 points and currently are four points off Lowestoft Town in the drop zone. The club know they must address the current dip in results which see the side not having picked up three points since the 5-0 demolition of Stalybridge Celtic on Tuesay 23rd February.

CLUB INFORMATION Founded | 1902 Nickname | City, The Blues Ground | Aggborough (6,250) 2014/15 Position | 11th Honours | Souther League Division One North Winners - 1967/68, 1976/77 Southern League Premier Winners 1978/79 Southern League Cup Winners - 1940, 2001

That said the club have had a difficult set of fixtures and have picked up credible points against Boston United, FC United Of Manchester, Harrogate Town and Solihull Moors. But with fixtures running out the club know they need to start picking up a few wins to elevate themselves from danger. If City were to pull off a victory it could see them climb as high as 14th if results go their way which shows just how open the league is. Meanwhile for Ferriby they sit in second with perhaps top spot just beyond them but know they need to come into the Play-Offs in some form and will want to extend their four-game winning sequence this afternoon. Worcester City

CLUB HISTORY Worcester City Football Club was formed on 9th September 1902 when another Worcester-based club, Berwick Rangers, went into liquidation. The Birmingham League agreed to let City take over Rangers’ fixtures, and the Club moved to St. George’s Lane in 1905. City’s first honour was the Worcestershire Senior Cup, which was won for six successive seasons between 1908 and 1914. There was little success in the early post-war years, but eventually City began to attract some quality players and surprised everybody by winning a second Birmingham League title in 1924/25. For 1928/29 City appointed a full-time player-manager, Frank Womack. City clinched the title with ten wins out of their last eleven matches. Womack then stunned City by joining Torquay United, he was succeeded by Joe Smith, and the 1929/30 season saw the title won again, City scoring an incredible 153 goals in 34 games.

During the 1930’s the Birmingham League was considerably weakened as teams left and in 1938 City joined the Southern League. City nearly went out of business in the early sixties, but supporters rallied to keep the club afloat and were rewarded with some big name signings such as Peter McParland, Norman Deeley and Eddie Stuart. But it was not until the appointment of Nobby Clark as manager in December 1974 that the glory days truly returned. The Southern League Division 1 North was won in 1976/77, with City gaining 69 points from a possible 76 and losing only one League match - the final one! Two years later, the Southern League Premier Division title was won for the first time. In 1979, City joined the newlyformed Alliance Premier and finished third in its inaugural season but Clark was dismissed as manager in 1984, and City were relegated back to the Southern League twelve months later. In 2004 City became founder members of the Conference North Ferriby United The Official Matchday Programme

North but in January 2005, John Barton resigned and another former City player, Andy Preece, took over. In October 2007, Preece was replaced by Richard Dryden, assisted by City legend Carl Heeley. City switched to the Blue Square South for the 2008/09 season, with Carl taking over as manager at the start of 2010. City reverted to the Blue Square Bet North after narrowly avoiding relegation in 2009/10 and last season finished in 16th place. The 2012 / 13 was the final season at St Georges Lane & the match v Chester FC on Saturday 27th April 2013. Worcester City FC now ground share at Aggborough, the home of Kidderminster Harriers FC. The 2014/15 Season proved to be one of the most memorable, winning against a Football League Club away from home for the first time in the Club’s history when on Saturday 9th November two goals from Sean Geddes saw a memorable 1-2 win at The Ricoh Arena v Coventry City in the 1st Round of the FA Cup, backed by over 3,200 travelling supporters.

VIEW FROM THE

SID ELINE S

Frustration and missed opportunities in recent weeks for Ferriby but Sam Shepherd believes a win today could open the league up again... I always try to look on the bright side when it comes to Ferriby because one bad performance is usually followed by a very good one however this hasn’t been the case in the last few weeks andes but when one came they took it and with it the vital 3 points. Today we face Curzon Ashton in what is now a must win game in my opinion. Ferriby are not a bad side and every team goes through patches of poor form. We all know how good a manager Billy Heath is and I expect him to have Ferriby fired up to deliver a much better performance today and if that happens I’m sure we will come away with the win. A win today and a couple of results going our way would totally change the league table again so all is not lost.

Enjoy the game, Sam
