THE MANAGER
CHRIS BOLDER
May I welcome the officials, players and supporters of Gainsborough Trinity to the Eon Visual Media Stadium this afternoon.
These notes are written prior to our match with Tamworth, but rest assured the boys are fully prepared for the tough Easter period. We picked up our first home win of the season here against Byth Spartans. It was a win that was fully deserved in my opinion. We know we may have to surrender possession and territory at times during games, but I was proud of the lads. I felt Blyth got a bit desperate at times, they found it hard to break us down because we defended extremely well. Our two centre-backs (Jack Mail and James Piercey) were phenomenal. They have played against some excellent forwards and they’ve handled themselves well. Jamie Forrester was outstanding, too. He put in a brilliant free-kick for the goal. The front lads are working hard. James Nichols is an intelligent footballer, who is still learning. He makes good runs both on and off the ball. We appreciate how much the fans are
getting behind us. It was nice for them to see home victory. Those who have been coming recently will have seen that result on the horizon as well. We’re in good form given that we are in the middle of a rebuilding process. We’ve got two wins, two draws, and one defeat in our past five games The lads are relishing all the challenges that is being thrown at them and they must take huge credit for how they are progressing at the minute. Each player is so determined to improve and work hard for their team-mates which has been evident in recent weeks. It’s the same message that Paul and myself will keep delivering from now until the end of the season and we may some little blips on the way but, hopefully, these will be less frequent as we move forward Chris Bolder First-Team Manager NORTH FERRIBY UNITED The Official Matchday Programme

THE DEFENDER
THE DEFENDER Welcome to the Eon Visual Media Stadium for another National League North fixture.
It has been a big step-up joining North Ferriby United, but I’m really enjoying it and it’s great testing myself week in week out against a better level of player. I would say the biggest challenge so far has been the fitness levels, along with the need to concentrate every single minute of the game because if we aren’t we will get found out and concede. In terms of preparation for next season, I am just trying to learn all the time in all the training sessions and all the games trying to apply what Chris and Robbo are trying to instill into us. My highlight so far has to be the two wins and with them came two clean sheets which is the most important thing for me as a defender. We are all now pulling in the right direction and we all are buying into what is wanted from us, so I’m sure we can cause more upsets James Piercey First-Team Defender

With the business end of the season fast approaching, Gainsborough Trinity still find themselves entrenched in the battle for survival. Trinity currently sit second bottom, six points from Tamworth in 19th place, but the club also have an inferior goal difference to contend with, too. They head to the Eon Visual Media Stadium to take on the already relegated North Ferriby United, but must heed caution given the Villagers’ recent upturn in performances. Trinity head to East Yorkshire on
the back of a four game losing run which has seen them lose to Brackley Town, Stockport County, FC United of Manchester and Harrogate Town respectively. However, more concerning will be that Trinity have gone nine games without an away win and have not scored during that sequence, too, conceding 23 goals. The game also sees a number of former Ferriby players return to face their previous club, so a warm welcome to some familiar faces in the Gainsborough ranks. GAINSBOROUGH TRINITY
RECENT HISTORY
In the spring of 2009 there was a change in the management of Gainsborough when Peter Swan bought out his fellow directors and took overall charge of the club. His ambition for Gainsborough and for Trinity was high and fans soon noticed this with the arrival of Luke Beckett; Huddersfield’s Town top scorer who also quickly became Trinity’s top scorer. The pace of major signings continued many with recent Football League/Conference experience. At the beginning of the next season, it would have been fair to say that there was a real bout of optimism in the town and amongst fans. However, few games in with a lack of success, the new owner dispensed with the services of the then manager, Steve Charles, and his coaching staff and appointed the very experienced manager Brian Little, in his place. As the season progressed it quickly became clear that it was a false dawn – results were not going well for the Blues, this despite the Chairman’s continued investment in experienced players and the past success of the manager. At the end of the season, Trinity narrowly escaped relegation and the optimism at the start of the season had faded into disappointment with results and performances. This disappointment continued into the next season and it was not long before the manager’s services were dispensed with and his deputy Steve Housham appointed to the post. The Steve Housham era as manager, together with the investments of the Chairman, began to bear fruit and success at last arrived. In 2011/12 the club finished fourth in the Conference North, qualifying for the promotion play-offs. However, after beating Halifax Town in the semi-finals, Trinity lost the final 1–0 to Nuneaton Town in front of a Northolme packed to capacity. Success continued the following season (2012/13) as Trinity reached the semi-finals of the
FA Trophy for the first time, losing to eventual winners Wrexham. However, the combination of money and Steve Housham’s undoubted skill at management was not to last. At the end of this season, major change was to come again as the Chairman took his money and moved to Scunthorpe United. Despite the Chair fulfilling his promise of not leaving the club in debt, he did leave a club with the turmoil of finding new directors, new investment and new players on a vastly reduced budget. It was at this time, the beginning of 2013/14, that the spirit of Gainsborough came to the fore and local businessmen volunteered to take over the helm. It was a very challenging time, but the season did not end in relegation and the town breathed a sigh of relief. However, in 2009 the arrival of Peter Swann, the ambitious Chairman, nearly brought an end to the Northolme as Trinity’s home as he put forward a planning application to create a new sports complex in association with a local school to provide a new ground, improved parking, a social club as well as multi-weather training pitches for use by the club, the school and other local sports clubs. This proposal split the town and the fans but when the initial application was turned down, the Chairman decided to move on and the Northolme was saved from the indignity of being turned into a supermarket! The present season, 2014/15, has seen the new spirit at the club develop and the desire of the new directors to make Trinity a true community club come into being. It is the endeavour and enthusiasm of the new team of directors, the backing of the Trinity Supporters (The Blues Club) and the support shown by local businesses that is driving a new era at the club which is hoped will transfer into success on the pitch. DEFENDERS Ellis Storey Nathan Stainfield Chris Salt Michael Jacklin Ioan Evans Brandon Fleming Bradley Beatson Jack Vann
HENRICH RAVAS
ELLIS STOREY
Initially signed on a months’ loan from Championship side Derby County in time for the August Bank Holiday double header. Impressing immediately, the Slovak under nineteen international has brought a composed presence to the Trinity backline endearing himself to the Trinity faithful.
Signed in the close season from Grantham Town. The direct, pacey, left sided defender was originally targeted by Trinity boss Dave Frecklington back in March 2017, but he opted to stay with the Gingerbreads as they looked to push for the play-offs. Persistence paid off, when the youngster agreed the move in the summer.

NORTH FERRIBY UNITED The Official Matchday Programme
NATHAN STAINFIELD A legend at his former club Spalding United where he was club captain and regular member in the Evo-Stik team of the year. Staino is a left sided central defender eager to make the step up and play at the highest level. Former clubs include Spalding, Stamford, Boston Town, Boston United and Worksop.
CHRIS SALT Returned to the club towards the end of the 2016/17 season, striking up a mean partnership with Michael Jacklin in defence. A strong, uncompromising defender who leaves everything on the park. Salt was a key member of the Stamford defence that did well in The Daniels’ FA Cup & FA Trophy runs.
THE OPPOSITION
JORDAN RICHARDS
SHANE CLARKE
JOHNATHAN WILLIAMS
Highly rated midfielder Jordan Richards joins the club from Notts County, from where he was released in the summer of 2017. Capable of playing in a number of positions, Richards is most comfortable shielding the defence and keeping the ball ticking over. Richards made his competitive debut in the Lincolnshire County Cup.
Experienced central midfielder, Shane Clarke, re-joined the club from rivals Boston United where he suffered an injury blighted campaign. The Lincoln-based fitness instructor, who has spent time at Worksop, Tamworth and Boston since his first spell at the club is keen to have a settled season in midfield.
Another midfielder back for his second spell at the club. The ex-Nailer is a cultured, ball playing midfielder who is able to pick a pass. A dead ball specialist, Williams returns to the club having left to pursue more regular football – and did just that, at Buxton and Belper, where he made over a hundred appearances.
ALEX SIMMONS
ASHLEY WORSFOLD
Exciting forward, Alex Simmons arrived at the club in the summer, following his release from Lincoln City. Capable of playing across the front line, Simmons spent a successful period on loan last season at FC Halifax, helping them secure a place in the end of season playoffs, as he netted eight goals in the process.
Gainsborough Trinity’s top scorer in the 2016/17 season after arriving at the club from Buxton. A hard-working centre forward, Ash showed his dedication to the cause last season, playing out of position, yet still putting in a string of sterling performances to preserve the clubs National League North status.
NATHAN JARMAN Club captain, Nathan Jarman joined the club from North Ferriby United in 2015. The scorer of some valuable goals for Gainsborough, including the winner at Wrexham in the FA Cup Fourth Qualifying Round in 2015/16, Jarman’s goals against Salford & Kidderminster were pivotal in the side beating the drop. BLYTH SPARTANS
1 0
Saturday 24th March 2018 | Eon Visual Media Stadium | National League North | Att: 326 Relegated North Ferriby United stunned promotion hopefuls Blyth Spartans with a determined and spirited performance to gain their first home win of the season and complete a league double over Blyth. If teams were thinking that Ferriby may now lie down and go through the motions, then this result proves otherwise. Just like the draw against Salford City recently this was a fully-deserved three-point haul. The first half was a fairly low-key affair with little to get either set of supporters excited. Blyth started strongly and defender Nathan Buddle had three attempts on goal in the first 15 minutes alone, despite not really troubling Ferriby keeper Ross Durrant. Jordan Harrison almost scored after winning the ball in midfield before dragging his shot wide. Harrison’s effort and pace caused trouble for Blyth throughout the game. Buddle again went close for the visitors, before Jamie Forrester’s looping free-kick went over the bar. England ‘C’ international Danny Maguire managed to get a powerful shot in, but Durrant reacted well to parry it. In fact, the most notable event of the first half was the 42nd-minute replacement of referee Samuel Barrot by assistant referee Jonathon Bickerdike. Barrot had to be stretchered off with a knee injury. Qualified referee and Blyth supporter Tony Young took over the assistant referee role and credit to Young for doing the job so well. The second half was more entertaining and both sides had opportunities to score. Lewis Collins, who had a very good game in midfield, hit a shot very narrowly wide after good 12
NORTH FERRIBY UNITED The Official Matchday Programme
work by Jack Walters and Luke Lofts. Blyth then had a 10-minute spell which saw Rivers force Durrant to make a one-handed save. This was the only significant save that Durrant had to make in the half. That said, he was confident in everything he had to do. The back four were absolutely superb and most of Blyth’s efforts were blocked by some solid defending. Lofts had a shot blocked before the game’s only goal arrived after 60 minutes when Jordan Cooke headed home Forrester’s flighted free-kick. Ferriby took control after this, but neither team created little more than half-chances. Blyth got more frustrated as the game went on. Rivers and Robert Dale worked hard to create openings, but they had little end result. Ferriby’s Lewis Collins ran midfield. He created attacking positions and broke-up Blyth’s rhythm. Ferriby’s back-four defended well and most of Blyth’s shots were blocked. Durrant only had one save of any note to make. It was a long five minutes of added time, but Ferriby saw it out and could have doubled the score, but keeper Peter Jameson responded quickly to deny Collins as he burst through. Manager Chris Bolder commented, saying: “This win was fully deserved. We know we may have to surrender possession and territory at times during games. That’s how it was. “I felt they got a bit desperate at times. They found us hard to break us down because we defended extremely well. Our two centre-backs (James Mail and Jack Piercey) were phenomenal. They have played against some excellent forwards this week and they’ve handled themselves well. “Jamie Forrester was outstanding. He put in a brilliant free-kick for the goal.”
