THE MANAGER
THE MANAGER
CHRIS BOLDER
May I welcome the officials, players and supporters of Kidderminster Harriers to the Eon Visual Media Stadium.
It has been another challenging season for the club and one that has ended in disappointment in the fact we have been relegated from the National League North. However, through the events that have taken place, it has allowed a lot of young, local players to gain invaluable experience at a very good level that will benefit each and every one of them moving forward. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as firstteam manager and Paul and myself feel we have made progress with the current group of players, which we will continue working towards next season. The lads have taken all aspects on board and they have shown that they can be very competitive with some outstanding teams and players in this division. I think we were very unlucky not to take something from the Gainsborough Trinity game having hit the bar on two occasions and had plenty of goal-scoring opportunities. On another day, James’s effort early in the
game goes in and then it would have really tested the nerve of the Gainsborough players and fans. The pleasing thing is that we did have opportunities in and around their penalty area and, positionally, we are understanding our roles much better. Having spoken to a lot of other people in and around the division they feel that Kidderminster Harriers are one of the best footballing sides in the league, so today will be another really big test for the lads. On Tuesday, Gainsborough were very direct, so today will present lots of new problems to deal with. They find themselves in a strong position, firmly in the play-offs, and will be looking to go into them on the back of victories, so I’m sure they will be ensuring there is no complacency on their part. Again we play another team who have a strong goal threat with Joe Ironside going well this season, so we will have to ensure we limit NORTH FERRIBY UNITED The Official Matchday Programme

any gifts to players of his calibre. There have been a few highlights since I took over, the performance levels of some of the players that have never experienced this kind of level before have been pleasing, as well as the progress that each player has made and seeing them take on board technical and tactical advice which they have implemented in games. I think the first win away at Bradford Park Avenue was a particularly good day due to how we applied ourselves and the togetherness that the full club showed. A lot of the players took great confidence from that and that gave them a lot more belief in their own capabilities. I am looking forward to next season and having the opportunity for Paul and myself to work with the players for a full pre-season and really implement our philosophies. I am hopeful that a lot of the players will remain and appreciate the progress that has been made and are excited by the challenge of being competitive in the next league. The final message goes to the supporters of the club. Again you have been fantastic and appreciative of all the hard work and effort that has gone in both on and off the pitch and hope to see you all again here next season. KIDDERMINSTER HARRIERS
With a play-off place secured, Kidderminster Harriers travel to East Yorkshire hoping to carry on their momentum in the hope of promotion. The Harriers picked up a point from another tussle with a National League North play-off rival after a 1-1 draw with Spennymoor Town in midweek. Elton Ngwatala’s outrageous secondhalf goal was cancelled out by a penalty at the home of Harrogate Town, with Spennymoor’s ground waterlogged. John Eustace hailed the hard work his team have put in to establish a solid run of form as the regular season draws to a
close and in the wake of the draw against Spennymoor. “We were competitive in every game and every game is difficult,” said Eustace. “We are on a nice run at the moment and, hopefully, that will continue, but the lads are working ever so hard and have had so many tough games in the past two or three weeks. To be unbeaten in those games is fantastic.” For Ferriby, they will want to depart the National League North on a high and will have designs on giving their supporters something to cheer about in their final home game of the season. KIDDERMINSTER HARRIERS
RECENT HISTORY
The Birmingham and District League was formed in 1889; Kidderminster Olympic pipping Harriers to the title before the two clubs merged in 1890 under the Harriers banner. Harriers continued in the Birmingham League until 1939, winning the Championship in consecutive seasons (1938 and 1939), clinching a league and cup double. The club’s move to the Southern League for 1939-40 proved short-lived as the Second World War intervened after only three games. Immediately after the war, Harriers played in the Birmingham League and Birmingham Combination before re-joining The Southern League in 1948-49. Harriers’ next championship was the Birmingham Senior Cup in 1964, and a further 23 trophies - including four League Championships were won before Harriers re-joined the Southern League in 1972. Promotion to the Alliance Premier League (Football Conference) was clinched at the end of 1982-83. The club’s elevation to the Alliance Premier League ushered in a quarter of a century of unprecedented success for the Harriers that would see them win every major honour in the NonLeague game and ultimately become the 21st Century’s first newcomers to the Football League. In the FA Cup, Harriers remain perennial headline makers. The team’s most memorable cup run was perhaps that of the 1993/94 season when giants aplenty came head to head with Worcestershire’s premier side. Chesham United, Kettering and Woking were all downed as Harriers entered the Third Round draw – paired with Birmingham City. The reds secured one of the most memorable victories in its history at St Andrew’s, winning 2-1. More joy followed in the Fourth Round and Preston North End were duly dispatched at a packed Aggborough, the mazy run only coming to
an end at the hands of top-flight West Ham, with a 1-0 victory on the day. Further runs since have kept Harriers up there as a true giant killers – they gave a true fright to then Premier League neighbours Wolves in 2003 before being knocked out in a Molineux replay, while Peterborough were beaten on a memorable night at London Road ten years later, setting up a plum tie at Premier League Sunderland, where Harriers were beaten by a single goal. The turn of the millennium signalled undoubtedly one of the most memorable periods in the club’s illustrious history. Under the stewardship of former Liverpool legend Jan Molby, Harriers clinched promotion to the Football League for the first time in 2000, where they enjoyed five seasons. Memorable victories over mainstays of the Premier League like Swansea City and Football League big-hitters like Hull City were each in their own way a milestone as Harriers created a very brief but very memorable history in the highest echelons of professional football in the country. Harriers returned to a very different non-league scene in 2005 after hard times on and off the pitch ended in relegation to a then Conference that saw Harriers as far from the giant fish they once were. Under various managers, including Mark Yates and Steve Burr, there were plenty of memorable moments for Harriers fans to enjoy but, despite one shot at the play-offs in 2013, the team never quite managed to recapture the glory days of old – leaving the club to suffer off the field as just as many Chairman and Directors came and departed, ultimately resulting in the 2016 relegation to the National League North. But under the ownership of Colin Gordon and the management of John Eustace, a carefullycrafted, youthful team rallied well and carried the charge for Kidderminster Harriers to get back on an upward curve. The stopper, a product of the Charlton Athletic Academy, penned a oneyear deal with Harriers after impressing during pre-season. Hall, who has also played for Ebbsfleet and Hayes & Yeading over the course of his career.
A summer signing in 2017, Lee Vaughan needed little introduction to fans at Aggborough. The full-back played 178 games for the club between 2010 and 2014. Having joined the Reds from Telford back then, Lee went on to feature in the Football League for Cheltenham before making the switch to Tranmere.

A former Doncaster Rovers; Derby County and Walsall man, 32 year-old Jimmy joined Harriers in October 2017. Vicecaptain of the Saddlers during the 2016/17 season and making 40 appearances during that campaign in League One, the defender joined Harriers in October 2017 on a deal until the summer of 2020.
Fraser joined Harriers on loan from Premier League side Huddersfield Town in August on loan, before making the move permanent just before the New Year. The 20-year-old, a graduate of the Terriers youth system, is no stranger to the National League scene having spent previous spells with Stalybridge and Salford City.
THE OPPOSITION
RYAN CROASDALE Ryan began his career with Preston after coming through their youth ranks, but left to join Sheffield Wednesday almost three years ago. He’s had loan spells with Stalybridge and Tamworth at this level and, having left Wednesday in the summer of 2016, came to Aggborough as a free agent last season.
DECLAN WEEKS Declan is a graduate of the Wolverhampton Wanderers Academy. He got his first taste of sustained nonleague football at Southport in 2016/17. Despite a tricky campaign for the club, he featured heavily after arriving part way through the season, making over 30 appearances and scoring two goals.
ANDRE BROWN Striker Andre Brown joined Harriers after his release from Crewe Alexandra. The powerful hit-man was a graduate of the prestigious youth set-up at Alex, and spent much of last season cutting his teeth at non-league level with a spell at Worcester City in the National League North.
SAM AUSTIN
JOE IRONSIDE
GEORGE WARING
Harriers signed wide player Sam Austin after his departure from Championship side Burton Albion in the summer of 2016. His displays early during this season were enough reward him with an extended contract through to next summer, with Sam looking to pack in more games and goals for Harriers during 2017/18.
Harriers signed Joe Ironside from Nuneaton Town in March 2017. A former Sheffield United youth prospect, Joe spent three years with the Blades, picking up non-league experience with the likes of Halifax Town and Harrogate Town before moving to Alfreton Town and Nuneaton Town. Scored two goals on his debut for Kidderminster.
Spending time with Everton and Stoke during his teenage years, Waring has since spent time out on loan with the likes of Barnsley, Shrewsbury and Oxford. The 23-year-old joined Tranmere at the beginning of the 2017/18 season on a twoyear contract, before moving to Aggborough on loan until the end of the season. Worsfold (29 pen)
Tuesday 17th April 2018 | Eon Visual Media Stadium | National League North | Att: 399 Gainsborough walked away with all three points in what was a must-win game for them. They will have been relieved at the final whistle as they were rather fortunate to gain the victory. The win still gives them a fighting chance of avoiding relegation. For The Villagers, it was a disappointing evening, but they did not have the best of luck on an evening when the ball did not really run for them. It was a scrappy game and that was perhaps to be expected given the importance of it to Gainsborough. The visitors started brightly and looked the stronger team. However, there was little goal threat apart from an Ashley Worsfold header that went straight to Ross Durrant in Ferriby’s goal. Ferriby responded with a James Nichols’ shot that was held comfortably by Heinrich Ravas. Shortly after, Nichols had a powerful strike deflected for a corner. It was really Nichols’ night as far as scoring was concerned. The striker was denied by Ravas who tipped a shot on to the bar after Nichols had carved a chance out of nothing. It was frustrating for Nichols’ who was a threat all through the evening to the visiting defence. Jordon Cooke’s first-time shot at the near-post from a corner was cleared from just in front of the line. Those near misses really summed-up The Villagers’ evening. The only goal of the game, perhaps against the run-of-play came when Jack Mail conceded a penalty for a challenge on Worsfold. The striker got up and sent Durrant the wrong way from the penalty spot. It was tough on Ferriby but, to some extent, it eased Trinity’ nerves and they upped the tempo 12
NORTH FERRIBY UNITED The Official Matchday Programme
for a while. Even so, they did not really trouble Durrant. Equally, Ravas was not seriously involved at the other end. Both sides went close without really threatening a goal until just before halftime. From a Gainsborough corner the ball was hit from a huddle of players on to the Ferriby bar. Teh second-half saw less action in and around goal. Trinity were often glad to hit the ball long for their strikers to chase and to also relieve pressure on their defence. It may not have been pretty to watch but it was effective. Bobby Johnson and Jordan Harrison were the biggest threat in the way of creating attacking moves but The Villagers only had one on-goal shot in the half. A surging run from Luke Lofts, on as a substitute, ended with a 20-yard shot that went narrowly wide with Ravas beaten. Durrant was only called in to any serious action on two occasions as Trinity seemed to just want to hang on the win. There could be no faulting Ferriby’s effort on the night. They worked hard as individuals and as a team and created scoring opportunities. Scrappy affair. They made it into one with their need for points. Possession changed hands quite a lot. Ferriby boss Chris Bolder commented after the game, “On the balance of play, the chances created and shots on target we certainly deserved something from the game. We hit the bar twice and we’ve been very unlucky not to score. “Gainsborough came at us in first five minutes, but we came to terms with that and got ourselves in to the game. We had few words at half time because we were not completely happy with way we performed in certain aspects of the game during the first-half.”
