In addition to our quest to bring a greater awareness to the environmental conservation, physical conservation and protection of our heritage, our overall goal is to empower persons of all walks of life to ensure the sustainability of the physical and intangible aspects that make Barbados special. Look out for more as we commence plans for the launch of this key project right in the heart of Bridgetown at Jubilee Gardens on Saturday, June 29, 2013! Special Day Special Day, celebrating its 15th anniversary this year, is up and running; launching officially last week Saturday, June 8, 2013 at the Barbados Council for the Disabled (“BCD”). The committee extends a big ‘THANK YOU’ to all who ventured out early on the weekend to lend their support… greatly appreciated. Project Chairperson, Ashlee Cox, has embraced the vision enthusiastically since taking over the reins in May! Listen out for more as we reach out to partners, sponsors and volunteers to join us in making this project a continued success. If you wish to provide assistance or would like to know more about this project, you can contact the project team at special_day@jcibarbados.com
Mad Hatter Raffle On May 30th, 2013 the winners of the prizes for the inaugural Mad Hatter Raffle hosted by JCI Barbados were revealed! The draw was conducted at the office of the Barbados Council for the Disabled (BCD) by JCI Barbados President, Kevin Hinds and BCD Operations Manager, Rosanna Tudor and other members from the BCD. It was with great joy that JCI Barbados was able to meet the unspoken needs of the community and make a donation of 50% of the proceeds raised to a worthy organization, the Barbados Council for the Disabled. However, this would not have been possible without the tremendous support received from the business community. Kudos to VP Abena for leading this project and ensuring it was a success! … See winners here
UNDP Meeting The UNDP reached out to JCI Barbados following an article on volunteerism in the Business Authority in April. A meeting was held at the UN House on Tuesday, May 21 to discuss how UNDP and JCI could collaborate and build a partnership which will be beneficial to the Barbadian community and the wider Caribbean. In attendance were UNDP representative, Wonjae Lee, and JCI Barbados President, Kevin Hinds. Discussions were definitely fruitful and JCI Barbados is looking forward to great things resulting from this relationship even though it is in its early stages.
