Issue 8: SWPL2 Jeanfield Swifts Ladies FC vs Inverness City – 14/08/2016
would like to start off by extending a very warm welcome to the Inverness players and coaching staff as they come to Perth today. In our first ever meeting in May it was an excellent match. Inverness had us under a great deal of early pressure and possibly should have had a lead but my players stuck to their task bravely and earned the right to go play their football with Jade McDonald giving us a half-time lead and scoring a cracker in the second half with an assist from Alex Fox who had a major impact when introduced. I remember Jade had just finished a night shift before travelling up for the game, as had Danny McGinley who completed the scoring. I think the sacrifice these two players made that day, typifies the attitude of the whole squad and their commitment, and this togetherness is what is driving us forward this year. I've been delighted with the intensity and quality of training since the break and it is no coincidence that we have started well. A great away win v Buchan was followed up by a professional approach and avoiding a potential banana skin against a dangerous Raith Rovers side. We tried to play properly despite the terrible conditions and there was real quality to our goals. I was also pleased to see four different scorers.

Reaching the Quarter Final of the Scottish Cup is a first and a h u g e achievement for the club and I'm delighted for the girls and just hope they get the recognition they deserve. It is an incredible effort and I'm proud to be part of this journey. I'm also delighted to welcome Rebecca Foote back into the squad after 15months absence from an ACL injury that required belated surgery. Her attitude in supporting her teammates whilst injured has been humbling and set a great example, and her commitment to her training pre and post op is something that had to be seen to be believed. We are all really pleased to see her back playing. For today's match I'm hoping to see us continue our form and most importantly to play in an open and entertaining manner. Three points would take us further away from Inverness and hopefully closer to the top four, but we will have to be at our best to get anything from today's game. I hope you all enjoy the girls’ efforts this afternoon.

Inverness City’s Karen Mason writes:
Lack of player availability has been the most difficult aspect we have had to deal once again this year. Due to this we have not been able to put out the same starting 11 more than once and this undoubtedly impacts any momentum built. We do remain positive that we can battle our way out of the relegation zone but every player knows this is not an easy task and it will require a higher quality of performance each week than we put in for the first half of the season. Our most recent partners are well known to the club as they already assist with their considerable time & skill, so their sponsorship is even more appreciated. Translutions Translation Services are sponsoring young striker Alex Fox. Owner Iwan Davies commented "I've been really impressed with Alex since she joined the club. Bob McKinlay of McKinlay Printers who produce the match day programme has sponsored goalkeeper Bobby Cochran. Bob was heavily involved with the side when his daughter Laura played and he coached Bobby. Bob said "I am delighted to sponsor Bobby. I always remember she was an old-fashioned keeper—scared of nothing! “She was a dedicated trainer and once I heard she had returned to playing then I was delighted to support her. It is typical of her determination that she has returned after a few years out and adapted to SWPL standards.”

wifts welcomed a talented young Raith side to Perth for a late kick off with both sides looking to fill the last Quarter Final spot. After a great start by the visitors it was the SWPL side that eased through with a spirited response. In incredibly difficult conditions caused by a strong wind Raith started the better team. They were immediately on the attack and took a deserved lead when McLachlan met Carter’s corner on the run to smack a tremendous volley past the helpless Cochran.
that no nerves crept into the Swifts game. The scoreline remained even, despite most of the pressing coming from Swifts who had the lion's share of possession. Raith were led well by Aitken proving up to the task. They were unable to stay on level terms for long though, and on the half-hour mark Scobbie again collected on the edge and struck a sweet shot over the keeper into the roof of the net. It was just rewards for a player who was returning from absence the previous week. Five minutes later and tiring Raith fell further behind when Aitken's wayward pass back ended up in the net and then just two minutes later McIntyre sent a great strike from the edge of the box into the top corner. Swifts were now in total control and had the visitors on the ropes. Half time arrived with the score 4 -1. With the wind behind the visitors in the second half they once again started in better form and Swifts were not getting it their own way. Play was mainly towards the Raith keeper but it took until the 65th minute for Swifts to increase their lead when McIntyre was strong and knocked down for Fox who showed great composure in sweeping the ball home first time.
It was great start for Raith who were buoyed by the goal and were playing well with Carter prominent in midfield. Swifts responded well, however, and McIntyre collected on the byline feeding Scobbie who lifted the ball over the keeper. Coach McCrindle will have been pleased that the equaliser arrived quickly enough to ensure McIntyre then went agonisingly close with facebook.com/JeanfieldSwiftsGirlsFC

quick feet and then a strike across goal. Cochran was then alert when she parried a great Carter shot onto the bar, and then McDonald twice broke clear in the wide area and sent in teasing crosses which were not converted with Todd only inches away. Fraser had been introduced and was linking up well with her new teammates, Shaw then missed by inches from 25 yards and then Foote went on a brilliant solo run with her angled shot looking a goal all the way until expertly diverted past by the keeper. Foote was showing up well in her first appearance at McDiarmid and her performance will have pleased Coach McCrindle. It was left to McDonald to complete the scoring. ill Leiper started playing football aged 9, when her primary school was setting up a girls football team. They needed players, she was asked to join and was immediately hooked. At 10 she joined Falkirk FC's community programme for 2 years, moving on to Falkirk Ladies at 12 where she played for 8 years under Alison Mackie. “There was a great atmosphere within that team and we were together for a long time. In our U15 seasons we played in tournaments down south which were new experiences and I was proud of the fact that we were runners up in my first year in senior football.” Jill moved to Swifts at the start of last season. “I knew Jeanfield liked to try play football and had a team full of players that could do so. As if that wasn't enough Jill also turned 21 at the end of the season. “Let's just say it was certainly a good year for me!” Head Coach Jason McCrindle agrees, “Jill arrived at us unannounced but went straight into the team and stayed there throughout the season. She hardly missed a training session, played a new position and was a rock at left-back for us. Her attitude was top class and she settled in with her new teammates instantly. Sometimes I felt sorry for opposition wingers when they were faced by Jill.” For the record, Jill regards Hamilton as her hardest opponents. Jill hasn't really slowed down this year either. As well as proving along with her teammates that she is an SWPL standard player, she has completed her BSc (Hons) in Sports Coaching and next week will head off to Wilton, Connecticut to coach two recreation teams, u10s & u8s, and an u13 academy pro team, involving training and weekend games. “This is a great opportunity to gain some coaching experience and I'm excited about going to America. eanfield Swifts Juniors were made to work hard on their first outing in the East of Scotland McBookie.com Superleague. After going down to two early goals from Penicuik Athletic striker Ryan McCallum, Ross Gunnion’s team fought their way back to finish the match on the wrong end of the 2-3 scoreline. Swifts’ first goal in the East of Scotland top flight was scored by Kevyn Fowler, whose right-footed shot from inside the box found the back of the net mid-way through the second half. McCallum then restored Penicuik’s two goal advantage on 70 minutes, notching up his hat-trick. However, eight minutes later, John Anderson, who had just replaced Tony Holt, nodded home from the left corner of the six-yard box

with his first touch of the match to claw one back for Jeanfield. Despite pressing in the final minutes, the home side were unable to find an equalizer. It was an early lesson in the quality that the Superleague expects of its teams, and the Swifts will need to make sure that early goals do not scupper them again.
