Auction Terms and Conditions 1.

Condition of Merchandise – In publishing this auction catalog, Donley Auction Services has endeavoured to accurately describe all of the items being auctioned; however, all property is sold “as is”. No statement in this catalog, bill of sale, invoice, or advertisement by Donley Auction Services will assume any responsibility or liability with respect to age, condition, size, quality, rarity, variety, importance, historical relevance, or value of any of the items being auctioned. Any statements in this catalog do not take precedence over any verbal announcements made by the auctioneer at the action. All sales are final. This is not an “Approved Auction”. However, should there be a sincere dispute, you are asked to contact us and discuss a resolution. We will do our best to resolve the dispute in a fair, reputable and timely manner.

Disputes – The Auctioneer will make absolute and final judgement as to who is the successful bidder for each and every item in the auction whether it is a live, internet, phone or absentee bidder. Any TIE bids will be at the discretion of the Auctioneer. In the event of a dispute, the auctioneer may decide to re-open the bidding or not. All bids are irrevocable and shall be in accordance with the conditions of the sale and be governed and interpreted by the laws of the State of Illinois.

3.

Title – Title to all items shall be passed to the successful bidder once the auctioneer says, “SOLD”. The purchaser shall assume full responsibility for the lot purchased once the title has passed.

4.

Payment – All accounts are to be settled by the end of the sale. Payment may be made by cash, cashier check, or major credit cards. Sorry, no personal checks.

5.

Sales Tax – If applicable, a 7% Illinois State Sales Tax will be collected when you settle your account unless you have presented to the cashier upon a registration a valid resale letter of certificate and number.

6.

Buyer’s Premium – There will be an 18% buyer’s premium added to the successful bid price of those in attendance. A 3% discount will be applied for cash payments. The buyer’s premium is payable by the purchaser as part of the total purchase price. A buyer’s premium of 23% will be added to all internet bids.

7.

Absentee Bidding – As a service to our customers, Donley Auction Services will execute absentee bids if so authorized. A buyer’s premium of 15% will be added to the bid for all successful absentee bids. Absentee bids must be made only on an Absentee Bid form on the website or at the registration desk. To execute an absentee bid, fill out the form, listing lot number, description, and your top bid price (not including the buyer’s premium).. All absentee bids must be in the correct dollar increments. Bids not in the correct increment will be rounded up. All absentee bids will be executed competitively during the sale. All items will be purchased for the lowest price possible regardless of the amount of the absentee bid. In the event of tie bids between absentee bidders and those in attendance, preference will be given to the attending bidder. Where two absentee bidders bid the same amount the first received will be honored. This service is offered as a convenience by Donley Auction Services and we will not be responsible for any errors or failures to properly execute absentee bids. All absentee bids must be accompanied by a credit card number, expiration date and security code. Successful buyers will be notified by Donley Auction Services within 24 hours of the sale. Accounts not settled within 7 days of the sale will be subject to forfeiture of all deposits and loss of title to the property.

Phone Bids – Minimum bid on each item must be worth $500+ each. This can be done by giving us a credit card number to affirm your bids. NOTE: there are limited phone lines and phone bids will be handled on a first-come, first-served basis. No system is perfect and sometimes it is impossible for one reason or another to get through to the client on the telephone. In that case, the auction company cannot be held responsible for the failure to execute your bid. You must fill out a form over the phone 48 hours prior to the auction. A buyer’s premium of 18% will be added to the bid for all successful absentee and phone bids. All items will be shipped via preferred 3rd party shipper.

Notification of Success – Only successful bidders are contacted. Unsuccessful bidders are not contacted. Phone inquiries regarding your success cannot be answered until one week after the auction. All prices realized will be published online at via the online bidding platforms after the auction.

10. Shipping - All items will be shipped via preferred 3rd party shippers. The buyer will be responsible for paying for all packing and shipping charges. If there is a problem with shipping, it must be reported the day of receipt. Items purchased live at the auction must be picked up within 5 days or storage fees of $25 per day will occur or they will be deemed abandoned and sold to recover expenses. 11. Lot #278a. Western Electric/Jensen Field Coil TA-4151A? Rare

Western Electric Jensen Field Coil. Believed to be TA-4151A ? Nice original as found condition. Unknown if functional, but seems to ohm out. The rarest of the sound on disc cinema equipment, normally doesn’t exist.

Lot #280. Western Electric 700A Apparatus Unit w/ Org. Amp

Western Electric 700A Apparatus Unit with original amplifier. Commonly found as part of the Western Electric Universal Sound on Disc Projector Base. Not commonly found anymore. Extremely rare. No tubes. As found condition. Some paint loss, but nice.

Western Electric D-86850 Reproducer Set. Rare. Appears to be complete. Nice condition. Cabinet in nice shape. This is a dual turntable phonograph with two 4A tone arms. Untested. Not to many of these survived, they are the rarest of the rare. Extremely heavy.

Circa 1930. Measures 3’ x 10’ . Printed on paper, by Morgan Litho Co. Cleveland. Advertising Rin Tin Tin The Lone Defender All Talking Serial in 12 Chapters. Rivets on edge for hanging. Corners have been folded over and riveted for strength. Piece was originally folded. Colors are very strong and striking. No rips or tears. An impossible item to find in this condition.

Also includes an engraved brass plaque with a short biography of Buster Keaton. Items are currently matted but not framed. Overall measures 34.5” tall, 26.5” wide.

Five 8x10” photos from movies, 4 black and white, one color of Ingrid Bergman from various movies and a contract dated and signed Sept 10th, 1981 by Ingrid Bergman from the Aspen Films Society which agreed to paid $5000 to Ms. Bergman for use of movie clips in which she appears. Professionally framed and matted, three of the photos have slipped from matting. Overall measures 32” wide and 25” tall.

Lot #399. Monumental 1920’s Theater Chandelier Fixtures 5 Pc

Bronze & crystal chandeliers from the Colfax Theater, South Bend, Indiana. These pieces are most likely manufactured by Victor S. Pearlman. This monumental ensemble consists of 5 fixtures in all. Includes main chandelier measuring 9’ x 5’, with approximately 125 lights, large crystal beaded baskets, and various crystal embellishments. See photos. There are 2 smaller (but still huge), matching chandeliers measuring 65” x 36” , also of crystal and bronze with 42 lights each, beaded baskets and various crystal embellishments. In addition, there are 2 large companion wall sconces measuring 7’ x 23” and projecting 17” from the wall, with 4 lighted clusters and 24 lights each. All fixtures are in as found condition and in need of total restoration. Ensembles such as these are rarely seen. Don’t miss this incredible opportunity to own these pieces from one of the movie palaces from Hollywood’s Golden Era.

Lot #399A: Cinerama Steel Lighted Marquee Sign

Steel Lighted Marquee Sign featuring the word “CINERAMA” on a blue background with lighted white marquee letters. Vintage theater sign missing 108 light bulbs in total. The sign is untested, and the number of remaining bulbs that may be burned out is unknown. The sign measures a total of 187 1/2”L x 37 1/2”H (not counting the flange) and measures 2 1/4” deep on the steel, with the marquee letters measuring another 2 3/4” for a total depth of 5”.

This sign is from the New Palace Theatre at 151 West Randolph in Chicago. The New Palace Theatre opened in 1926. It was renamed the Bismarck Theatre in 1984, and in 1999 it was renamed again The Cadillac Palace Theatre. See photo of the sign on the New Palace Theatre in 1958.

Lot #399B: Original 1948 Paris Theater Signs Manhattan, NY 1 of 2 original 1948 Paris Theater Signs Manhattan, NY in this auction. The Paris Theater opened on September 13, 1948 and is a 581 seat single-screen movie theater. It is located across the street from The Plaza Hotel. In the early 1990’s, Loews Theatres took over the operation and was known as the Fine Arts Theatre for awhile. In 1994 the space was purchased by Sheldon Solow, a New York City-based real estate developer and owner. As of 2009, City Cinemas was the theater’s owner. Both signs are enclosed neon with stainless and plastic, replacements were installed in the early 90’s Measures 6’ x 5’ each. These are pure Manhattan magic to the right person!

Beautifully restored. No outer case. Fully operational. Complete with 200’ of film. Popular amateur home projector. Made in France. Circa 1925.

Complete with motor, through lens view finder, 4 lens turret (5cm, 30mm, 100mm and 7.5cm) Beautiful original condition with two Mitchell 1000’ magazines. Serial #413. Mechanism turns over freely. Circa 1930’s. Nice working example of a period camera.

Circa 1905 Mfg’d by the Rotograph Motion Picture Machine Co. of Milwaukee, WI. Silent era hand crank with very early pull down movement on heavy cast iron base. Machine has been restored. Missing upper reel arm but has take up arm. Includes original crank and lens. Measures 13”x12”x10” without take up arm.

Circa 1908. Serial No 121 Mfg’d by Don Bell for George K. Spoor & Co. Chicago, IL. Don Bell who would go on to form Bell & Howell, worked as a Chicago Projectionist and is widely credited with film width and perforation standardization in the industry. This rare and early Kinodrome with double front shutter has been fully restored. Mechanism turns freely. Comes with original crank and lens. Measures 15”x14”x15”.

Circa 1938 with auxiliary 400 ft magazine. Complete with motor crank. 3 lens turret and matching view finder. Additionally comes with 200 ft magazine. Lenses include 35mm Goerz, 2 inch, 25mm Baltar, telephoto 10 inch Wollensak, 12 inch Dallmeyer. Exceptionally successful camera for newsreel and military use. Nice complete outfit.

Circa 1909 Serial Number 236. The Kinemacolor was the first successful color motion process, used commercially in the silent era from 1908 to 1914. It was invented by George Albert Smith of Brighton, England in 1906. From 1909 on, the process was known as Kinemacolor. It was a two-color additive color process, photographing and projecting a black-and-white film behind alternating red and green filters. Head has been beautifully restored. Mechanism turns freely. No upper or lower magazines. VERY HEAVY cast iron frame. Color wheel present but missing color gels. Measures 19”x11”x13”

Edison model ? projecting kinetoscope circa 1895. Totally restored piece. Used for traveling shows before the advent of movie theaters. Complete outfit comes with wood frame head, upper and lower magazines, steryoctic, Edison lens, lamp house with carbon arch burner intact. Mounted on original oak wood plank and adjustable steel legs. Mechanism turns over freely.

Serial number 2047. Circa 1904. Complete with early short supply and take up arms, crank, lens and stereo lens. Lamp house with carbon arc burner and glass slide holder and oak folding base. Beautiful condition, ready for it’s next travelling show. Mechanism turns over freely, a joy to operate.

Complete with 1000’ magazine. Built in sound head for recording audio. Turret to hold two pair of lenses and additional lens pair included. Lenses include 3.5cm Schneider and 21cm Tessar lens. Rare example of early audio camera. Original Akeley Gyro tripod with handle and spreader bar included. Tripod is in beautiful restored condition. Fully operational.

Lot #372. Edison Home Projecting 22mm Kinetoscope

Thomas Edison introduced the 22mm Home Kinetoscope in 1912. It was one of the first successful home projection systems. This example is in overall very good condition. Mechanism turns freely. Carbon arc mechanism and condensing lens intact. Original metal carrying case in very good condition retaining 90%+ original paint and pinstriping and Edison decal. Leather carrying handle has been replaced. Case measures 17”x17”x6.5”. No power supply or films included.

Only a handful of original kinetoscopes exist. This is one of 20 reproduction pieces made by Ray Phillips in the 1970’s and are highly sought after. It is an exact working replica made of solid oak cabinet and operates as the originals did with a side switch. Includes a 35mm film of a ballet dancer. Overall excellent condition. Made by the International Mutoscope Reel Company in New York. Hand cranked lip card reel type of amusement commonly found in turn of the century penny arcades, taverns, etc. Reel is an out take from a Charlie Chaplin movie. Heavy cast iron machine on base. Has been partially restored. Operator’s access door has been cracked and rewelded at some time. Comes with marquis, no insert included. Measures 76” tall to top of marquis.
