Feel Good About Yourself Again GAIN CONFIDENCE WITH WEIGHT-LOSS SURGERY At 90 pounds overweight, Melanie didn’t realize she was using food to relieve stress. The Memorial Weight-Loss Surgery Program helped her find new ways to cope—and helped her lose 12 sizes. When Melanie was researching laparoscopic band surgery (LAP-BAND®), she explored her options and kept coming back to Dr. Brett Cohen and the Memorial Weight-Loss Surgery Program.
Melanie
BEFORE & AFTER
Memorial Regional Hospital’s distinction as a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence helped confirm her decision—since programs must meet high standards of quality, safety and surgical expertise to earn this seal. After the minimally invasive, outpatient procedure, Melanie looks and feels better than ever. “My in-laws, at Thanksgiving this year, told me this is the best I’ve ever looked,” she says. “It felt really good to hear that.” You can feel good about yourself again, too. Learn more at a free seminar. Visit MHS.net/WeightLoss or call 954-265-5889.
“If you’ve tried and tried to lose weight with no success, weight-loss surgery can help you achieve long-term results. We can help you have the life you deserve.” – Brett Cohen, MD, FACS

93-year-old Hollywood resident constructs a scale model of Hollywood Women's Club with great grandson
By Tena Moore
HOLLYWOOD WOMEN’S CLUB CLUBHOUSE GETS A ‘LIFT’: Located at 501 North 14th Avenue, at the corner of Fillmore Street in the North Lake neighborhood, the clubhouse overlooks the golf course of the Hollywood Beach Country Club.
Hollywood Gazette
I Love Hollywood Gazette!
Felipe Lizama, twenty-five year Hollywood resident, never passes up an opportunity to spend quality time with Philip Brown, his great-grandson and first grade student at Nativity Catholic School in Hollywood Hills. The ninety-three year old Lizama was recently inspired by the city’s efforts to restore and renovate the original Hollywood Women’s Club. After reading about the project in the May issue of Hollywood Gazette, Lizama drove his grandson to visit the site and witness how the home was lifted off the ground as workers rebuilt its foundation. Amazed by the city’s dedication to the
historic site, Lizama invited his grandson to initiate a “renovation” project of their own: building a scale model of the construction site. “Felipe, my wife’s grandfather, is an unbelievable person who always thinks of others before himself. He is truly an inspiration to all of us,” added Felipe’s grandson Stephen Brown, Ph.D. This past month, Lizama and Philip have met weekly to cut, draw, and glue basic household materials into their own personal rendition. The pair looks forward to revisiting the Women’s Club once the restoration is completed, and maybe answer any questions the construction crew might have.

JULY 2013
The Hollywood Women’s Club has organized ‘A Night at the Mardi Gras Casino, Hollywood’ on Friday, August 23 for Texas Hold’Em featuring cash prizes and Slots Tournament with winners receiving gift certificates. An ‘All You Can Eat’ prime rib and fish dinner starts at 6 p.m. with a cash bar. Tournaments will begin at 7:15 p.m. Ticket donation is $100 per person, addons and re-buys available. The fund raiser will support the Hollywood Women’s Club community service projects and the clubhouse restoration fund. The Greater Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC), Hollywood Women’s Club, founded in 1922, is one of the City of Hollywood’s oldest civic groups.
The culturally diverse organization of 100 members is dedicated to community service and the support of local and international charitable organizations. Their Clubhouse foundation is presently being replaced and additional restoration funds are needed to re-side the exterior including new windows, making the building handicapped accessible and modernizing the kitchen. The clubhouse functions as a center for community, social, educational and fundraising events and is available for rental. Advance ticket purchase is encouraged as space is limited. To purchase tickets online visit www. hollywoodwomensclub.org or call Patti Wilock at (954) 588-1061.

Ari & Alphfie
These are Ari (Standard Silver Poodle, 9 Y/O) & Alfie (Toy Apricot Poodle, 2 Y/O). They are “adoptive” brothers. Ari is 9 years old and two years ago, Alfie came to our home as a puppy. They play together all day long. Believe it or not, Alfie is the one who takes care of the “ruff” situations. He’s more protective and territorial and also a little loud when he want to be heard. He also takes care of Ari like if he were the big brother.

JULY 2013
ast month, Broward/Palm Beach New Times awarded the Downtown Hollywood Mural Project “Best Public Art” 2013. Since August 2012, the Hollywood Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) has been funding a program that pairs accomplished contemporary artists with property owners to commission murals. The mural program is a key element in a redevelopment strategy that will greatly enhance the diversity and vibrancy of Downtown Hollywood. Strategically placed murals create points of interest that stimulate activity and improve the Downtown economy. Participating artists have thus far included:
My name is Dominic Leone. I am 3 years old. I went to a Yo Gabba Gabba concert and all I wanted to do was dance & play the toot. I wear Yo Gabba Gabba socks everyday. My Mommy & Daddy, Tara & Ben Leone, think I’m still their baby, but I’m really a big boy!

The Hollywood CRA’s mural program is designed to boost and encourage the Downtown Hollywood Live Music Initiative, launched earlier this year with the debut of the free yearround concert series ArtsPark Live!, and with new regulations that allow venues in delineated zones to obtain an extended hours liquor license. Under the helm of CRA Executive Director Jorge Camejo, Commissioner Beam Furr and project manager Jill C. Weisberg lead a new mural-review committee that works with developers, property owners and artists to commission and execute artwork on outdoor surfaces. Most live painting takes place during the monthly Third Saturday Art Walk from 7 to 10 p.m. Rob Robi, a Downtown established community artist for over 20 years, will be painting during the next Art Walk on July 20 and Tatiana Suarez is slated for August 2013. The Downtown Hollywood Mural Project is centralized in the Live Music District, running along Hollywood Boulevard and Harrison Street between 21st Avenue and Young Circle. See pages 7-9 for more information on each mural.
Michelle Weinberg responds to Downtown Hollywood’s Deco-inspired storefronts and the typography of store signs with ‘Oasis in Progress.’ Weinberg is widely acclaimed in the realm of public art, and her participation in DHMP is one of two major artistic contributions she is making to revitalize the area this year.

“OVER LOOK” BY EDUARDO MENDIETA • 2014 HARRISON ST. Hollywood CRA seeks to fill two vacancies on the Mural Review Committee DEADLINE TO SUBMIT: JULY 19, AT 5 PM
Eduardo Mendieta, the prolific, established artist featured at the Superbowl XLVI Indianapolis Mural Project, referenced the revival of the district with youth imagery. The stark outline of the children’s faces on the buffed wall is experiential, conveying both innocence and hope laced with ideals for a promising future. “Art is what you make of it. It’s all about how you personally relate to a piece and what you take from it,” explains Mendieta about his concept.
The Mural Review Committee reviews all Mural Applications for the CRA based upon the following criteria: The content of the mural; the paint and sealing process to be used in the installation; proportion to the building façade area; the design, location, scale and content of the mural; and the ability to enhance the Downtown Hollywood community and contribute to its unique character. At this time there are two positions open. Deadline to submit is July 19 at 5 p.m. Applications are on the Hollywood CRA web site at www. hollywoodcra.org

“UNTITLED” (MONA LISA) BY 2ALAS 1900 HOLLYWOOD BLVD.
“POSERS AND DREAM CRUSHERS” BY EVOCA1 2020 HOLLYWOOD BLVD. Both artist and humanitarian, Evoca1 uses his artistic ability to raise funds and awareness for issues that embattle society as a whole. His piece titled “Posers and Dream Crushers” aims to warn viewers “not to be misled by false appearances and behaviors.” He explains how “Posers and Dream Crushers” is different from some of his other work: “Whenever I paint, I tend to use past experiences or an emotional struggle faced by someone I've come in contact with, but this piece is actually more of a way to vent my frustration with the way we behave with each other. This mural portrays the struggles faced when people or things pose as friendly to get close enough to be detrimental.”
2alas is the moniker of Andrew Antonaccio and Orlando Galvaz, two Miami-based artists who exhibit in curated gallery shows, as well as paint in the streets of Wynwood Arts District, New York, Montreal and soon, Downtown Hollywood. Combined, their unique style is comprised of geometric abstraction, basic colors and binary imagery. With Mona Lisa, 2alas appropriates one of the most recognized and famed portraits in art history to attract the attention of pedestrians in Hollywood. The digitized, black and white close-up of the Mona Lisa face appears superimposed on vertical lines, speckled with bright triangles and shapes. “We wanted to create an impact,” explains Antonaccio, “and this type of imagery – as simple as it looks – can be recognized by everyone no matter how much they know about art. We hope to give Hollywood a modern Renaissance image to love, as the city goes through its own transformation.”
AMDUAT BY LUIS PINTO • 1843 HARRISON ST. PHOTO BY JILL WEISBERG
Amduat, a 45 x 15-foot mural by the highly sought-after contemporary artist Luis Pinto was inspired by the geometric abstractions found in Egyptian art. Pinto’s vision for 1843 Harrison Street was site-specific for the sprawling, horizontal wall. Amduat, which translates to “that which is in the afterworld,” references an ancient Egyptian text about the sun god traveling through the underworld and features large rectilinear shapes in the form of a coyly slithering snake.

83 AND SUNNY BY RUBEN UBIERA 1925 HARRISON STREET
Acclaimed local artist Ruben Ubiera’s ‘83 and Sunny’ was the second mural for the Downtown Hollywood Mural Project’s outdoor mural program which took over a month to complete in the fall of 2012. His vividly layered mural spans 12 by 70 feet. Located at 1925 Harrison Street, Ubiera’s mural enriches the front façade of the Downtown Hollywood Ramada. “Great nights, great people, great weather, are all celebrated in this mural,” said Ubiera. “Colors where taken from a Florida sunset and were carefully placed to contrast or complement with each other. Symbols (asterisks surrounded by circles) were also placed in the mural, not only giving balance to empty areas, but representing “Unity + Tolerance”. PHOTO BY PETER VAHAN

HOLLYHOOD KALEIDOSCOPE BY JESSY NITE 1901 HARRISON STREET The 18-by-22-foot mural across the corner building’s second story above New Age Cycles features groups of kaleidoscoping diamonds in 20 pastel shades that are punctuated by black diagonal stripes. Nite’s work was the third outdoor installation of the Downtown Hollywood Mural Project completed last October. The building at 1901 Harrison Street “offers the perfect site for a mural as it is a corner building that boasts a highly visible second floor,” said property manager Ben Schiff. “The design of the mural and reputation of the artist, Jessy Nite, are sure to generate a lot of positive attention and make 1901 Harrison Street a landmark in Downtown Hollywood.”

DOWNTOWN NEWS
Cinema Paradiso breaks ground, opens Downtown this fall
Next fund raiser set for Thurs. July 18 at Lola’s on Harrison By Jennifer Sandomir A $150,000 grant for the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival was recently awarded from the estate of a local philanthropist Mary N. Porter in May to help fund the build of a cinema in Downtown Hollywood. Cinema Paradiso-Hollywood (CP-H) will be a 72-seat movie theater, showing art and foreign films and is expected to open this fall in time for the 2013 Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival (Oct 18 - Nov 11, 2013). The Fundraising Committee is working to match the $150,000 grant through fundraisers and support from the community and local businesses. “The Community Foundation of Broward’s Mary N. Porter Legacy Fund will match $1 to $1 our CP-H fundraising efforts up to $150,000. As soon as the grant was announced, Jarett Levan of BBX Capital pledged $10,000. That was almost immediately followed by New You Magazine’s pledge of $10,000. So we are 13% of the way to matching the grant,” said Gregory Von Hausch, President & CEO of the Fort Lauderdale Int’l Film Festival (FLIFF). According to Hausch, the restroom areas and backstage are now being constructed and they have selected the projector and seats. Joe Kaller and his associate Jose Erazo have completed the plans for the exterior. “We hope to inch closer on July 18th at Lola’s on Harrison for our CP-H Fundraiser: Take 4 with special
guest Sally Kellerman,” said Hausch. “Our matching fundraising is well underway,” added FLIFF Chairman Alan Koslow, “and is sure to be completed on or before our First Annual KELLERMAN FLIFF Gala Awards Celebration” on Sat., Nov. 9th at the Westin Diplomat Hotel. Koslow has a big vision that “does not stop at the cinema” which will tie success from the Downtown cinema to the Hollywood Beach district. Subject to city approval, plans to unveil a “Broadwalk of Fame” are in preliminary stages. The first major celebrity honoree is expected to be announced at the Nov. 9th awards celebration. “This will be the ‘party of the year’ for Hollywood,” said Koslow. “Anybody who’s anybody will be there -- or wish they had been.” The concept of a ‘Broadwalk of Fame’ is reminiscent of Hollywood, California’s ‘Walk of Fame,’ yet unique in that celebrities will be selected to memorialize bricks in the Broadwalk with a Diamond logo commissioned by a local artist. “The goal is to make the Broadwalk an international tourist attraction,” said Koslow. The ‘Take 4’ fund raiser will be on Thurs., July 18 from 5:30- 8 p.m. at Lola’s on Harrison St. Tickets are $20 and include two free drinks and hors d’oeuvres. To RSVP or for more information, contact Coleen at 954-9854169. For more information about FLIFF, visit fliff.com.

Harris Art Studio to relocate in August
Owned and operated by Hollywood Hills resident and artist Kyle Harris, Harris Art Studio has offered art instruction in drawing, painting, sculpture, crafts, photography and more to children and adults for the last eighteen months. After occupying a double storefront in the Target Plaza on Hollywood Boulevard, and securing 2012 Best of Hollywood winner in the category for Best Creative Instruction, the studio is moving to a new location in the former Hollywood Mall in August. The mission of Harris Art Studio is to provide a fun, safe, comfortable environment where people with an interest, a passion, an appreciation or just a curiosity for art can explore creativity and express creatively. A transplant from New England, Harris studied visual arts and photography in high school and college and held a successful career Kyle Harris in television production and community activism in the Greater Boston Area for over 20 years. Her family moved to South Florida in 2003 where she made her way back into the world of art as head of the art department at The Arts Academy of Hollywood. While overseeing a small staff, she taught children’s art classes until
the Academy closed in 2009. After a night out at a painting party in 2010, Harris discovered she “still had it” and it was time to do something with that college education. “It all happened so quickly and it felt right!” Harris says. An opportunity to occupy what would have been an empty storefront in a prime location, led her to open the studio in the Target Plaza. “The landlord didn’t want an empty space and I wanted to give this new career a try. And then I Hollywood resident Erin Scissors at an art party knew it was going to work when at Harris Art Studio. Suggestions for Serving Seafood
With so many seafood choices it can be difficult to know how to pick the freshest catch. Here are some tips to ensure you’re choosing the best at your next visit to the market or fish counter: n
Milk Does a Salmon Good — Milk tenderizes salmon and removes any frostbite or fishy taste, so try defrosting salmon in a container of milk for a fresher flavor.
n
Float On, Mussels — Mussels love to float. If a mussel sinks to the bottom of a container filled with water, throw it away — it’s a sign of a bad mollusk.
n

“R” for Really Fresh — Oysters taste best when they are harvested during colder weather. For a good rule of thumb, enjoy them during months with an “R” in the name, for example, September through April. In the Red — Quality tuna should be deep red with no “rainbow” coloring, which is a sign of old fish.

Creamy Risotto with Asparagus and Shrimp
Yield: 4 servings 1 tablespoon olive oil 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined 4 cups vegetable broth 1 bunch asparagus, trimmed and cut into 1/2-inch pieces 1 large shallot, finely chopped 1 tablespoon butter 1 cup Arborio rice 1/2 cup Martín Códax Albariño wine 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil Salt and pepper Heat oil in 12-inch skillet over medium-high heat and cook shrimp, stirring occasionally. Remove shrimp once they are almost fully cooked. Bring vegetable broth to a boil. Once boiling, reduce heat to a simmer. Add cut asparagus to broth and cook for 2 minutes. With slotted spoon, remove asparagus and set aside with shrimp. In a 3-quart saucepan over medium-high heat, cook shallots in butter until translucent. Stir in rice to coat the grains and cook for approximately 1 minute. Add in Martín Códax Albariño and stir until wine is absorbed by rice. Once absorbed, stir in vegetable broth 1/2 cup at a time. Note: each 1/2 cup must be absorbed completely before the next one is added. Continue to stir the risotto to keep it from sticking and repeat with remaining broth until all has been added. Stir in shrimp and asparagus and heat through. Add Parmesan cheese and drizzle with olive oil. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve immediately.

NEWS FROM THE GREATER HOLLYWOOD CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
Redevelopment: New Projects Mean Jobs for Hollywood From plaza plat redevelopment of an underutilized mall to full-scale beachfront resort projects, the jobs outlook in Hollywood has a very bright future. The Hollywood City Commission recently voted 6-1 to allow for the Margaritaville Hollywood Beach Resort to become a reality. This 349room hotel and restaurant complex will also include a garage with 600 public parking spaces and promises the refurbishment of Hollywood Beach’s existing band shell and public restrooms. At a projected cost of $147 million, this project alone is expected to create 500 construction jobs during its 27-month build-out timeframe. Once completed, Margaritaville will hire 350 employees. In all, some 3,000 direct and indirect jobs will be created as a result of this long-awaited project. Costa Hollywood Condo Resort is yet another much-anticipated oceanfront project scheduled to break ground soon on the north end of Hollywood Beach. This six-floor condominium will encompass Hollywood Beach
Village, an upscale outdoor retail and dining district complete with boutiques, restaurants and even a day spa. The resort’s 303 fully-furnished one- and two-bedroom units – slated for completion in the first quarter of 2015 – will feature advanced technology, Intracoastal Waterway and Atlantic Ocean views, a rooftop infinity pool and even an automatic valet parking system. The Hollywood City Commission also recently approved the “Hollywood Plaza” plat in preparation for redevelopment. Located on the west side of US 441 just south of Hollywood Boulevard, this site will soon house Walmart, TD Bank and Pollo Tropical. Negotiations are underway to add Taco Bell and Sonic to that list, as well. In addition, the site’s owner is also working in conjunction with the Department of Planning and Development Services on improvements to the existing shopping center located across 441. More updates on this project are expected this fall once Broward County approves the project. In the mean time, the City of Hollywood plans
to showcase this redevelopment project at the International Council of Shopping Centers (ISCS) Conference in Orlando this August. In addition to full-scale projects, many other new business ventures continue to choose Hollywood as their home. The Event Decorating Academy opened just last year at 1100 South Dixie Highway, providing courses that cover a broad range classes designed to address all aspects of event decoration. SMASH Beauty Lounge held its grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony on Hollywood Boulevard in Downtown Hollywood recently, too. And Letts Shop Again, a second-hand store like no other – just opened its doors on 441 just north of Taft Street. “Whether directly or indirectly, these projects and new businesses mean jobs for Hollywood and its residents,” explains Greater Hollywood Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Anne Hotte. “We predict that the coming years will be both exciting and prosperous for Hollywood. In fact, we’re counting on it!”

OPINION
Cities, County Fight Over $100-Million Hollywood passed resolution 6/19 to initiate legal action For nearly thirty years, Broward’s garbage disposal was a marriage of convenience between cities and the County government. BY MIKE RYAN Residents in 26 of the 31 municipalities have paid hundreds of millions of dollars to build and operate facilities for the disposal of solid waste, which the County gave away to the private contract operator. Thankfully, there are still assets remaining. In fact, there are tens of millions in real property and tens of millions in cash accumulated. The agreement that formed this marriage of convenience is expiring July 2nd. But, the County has decided it doesn’t want to divide the “marital” assets in accordance with the “pre-nuptial agreement”. Like so many marriages that end up on the rocks, looks like this one is headed for the courts. At stake is over $100 million in cash and property. HOW WE GOT HERE Over the past 25 years, garbage disposal for 26 municipalities has been handled through an Inter-local Agreement (“ILA”) creating the Resource Recovery System (“RRS”), a name coined likely because of the plan to burn waste to create electricity in order to recover value. All municipalities in the 1980s liked the idea of joining together in this marriage of convenience to handle waste, except Dania Beach, Hallandale, Parkland, Pembroke Pines, and Pompano Beach. The RRS is presided over by the Resource Recovery Board (“RRB”), made up by designated representatives from municipalities and a representative from the County. However, the “marriage” agreement expires on July 2, 2013. Then, the County Commission takes over as the governing board and the existing Board and System are abolished. The Resource Board is supposed to, by the terms of the agreement, distribute the net assets of the Recovery System – such as cash and the value of land, landfills and physical assets owned by the resource system. Each contract municipality is supposed to get a pro rata distribution on July 2, 2013. Some say the market value is potentially much higher than the $100,000,000 accounting value on the books. For many cities, there are millions of dollars at stake. Let’s be clear: the County’s own Attorney gave an opinion that the assets belong to the Resource System. Translation: There is no dispute, the 26 contract municipalities have a pro rata beneficial ownership interest in those assets! AUDITOR SAYS COUNTY NOT COOPERATING In order to get some answers on the true financial picture, the Resource Board brought in the City of Fort Lauderdale auditor. The interim audit report, as well
26
JULY 2013
as Resource Board discussions, raised some very real concerns: understatement of assets, overstatement of liabilities, potential misallocation of expenses and liabilities, and potentially inappropriate transfer of funds to the County. Equally troubling, the City of Fort Lauderdale Auditor says the County is frustrating his attempts to get a clearer picture of the financials, won’t answer questions directly and won’t allow him to meet with the County’s External Auditor. Every request for information is treated like a formal public record request. COUNTY TAKES PRE-EMPTIVE STRIKES Nonetheless, the Resource Board voted to distribute the cash assets, obtain a valuation of the real property for distribution purposes and audit the closing finances. However, the County refused to comply with that vote and didn’t wait for July 3rd to take more action. One contentious issue involves dollars set aside for the closure of landfill sites… which some say still have 30 years of useful life remaining. Along the way, residents in the contract cities have been contributing millions to a reserve fund for closure costs predicated appropriate accrual accounting for our use through July 2, 2013. Unilaterally, the County recently took another $9,000,000 of distributable cash from the System to pump up even more the County reserve closure fund. Then, the County put a deed restriction on the assets, something the RRB voted against recently so as not lower the potential value of some of the assets. This “divorce” is about to become very public. CITIES TO TAKE ACTION Sometimes you need an impartial referee in a divorce … or when a business is dissolving. With the July 2nd date fast approaching and the County taking preemptive actions contrary to the RRB decisions, Sunrise, Weston and Hollywood have voted to file a lawsuit, if necessary, to protect their share of the assets and the right to a full accounting. Other cities are lining up next week to join the litigation. Some in the County government have already warned the County Commission might, in retaliation, withdraw support for the County’s E-911 Consolidation funding plan. Hard to imagine anyone would tie these two issues together or jeopardize the most important public safety improvement in decades. Maybe that’s politics. But, obtaining a true accounting and distributing net assets pursuant to an agreement should not turn into a nasty “divorce” full of threats and retaliation, nor is this about politics – it is about enforcing a business agreement. Cities should stand together to protect the assets and seek what they are entitled to receive – nothing more, nothing less. Michael Ryan is the mayor of Sunrise. He was elected in August, 2010 and re-elected in 2012. Visit BrowardBeat.com for updates and to comment on this story.

HEALTH & WELLNESS
The 7-Day Real Food Challenge Shondelle Solomon-Miles
Why is it so common to KNOW one thing, yet DO another?
Processed foods, additives and chemicals are inferior to real food and are potentially harmful to your health. You KNOW this. So why do you still eat it? Why do you still eat that packaged granola bar, snack on those whole grain crackers, and put that artificial sugar in your coffee or tea? You may think that heart healthy, low fat and sugar-free label means something, but it doesn't hold a candle to real food. In fact, most of that stuff is not food at all! Our body 'sees' it as TOXIC.
What is Real Food? Here's an easy way to tell if your food is real or not: If your food CAN spoil, it's good for you. If your food CAN'T spoil, it's bad for you. Real food is fresh and unprocessed. So here's my challenge to you for the next 7 days: The Real Food Challenge

JULY 2013
Lean, meat, fish & eggs (hormone, antibiotic free, grass-fed beed, free range chicken Nuts and Seeds Those four categories of food can be combined into endless, flavorful combinations. Check out the following meal ideas:
BREAKFAST:
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. What you decide to eat when you first wake up will set the tone for the rest of your meals that day. • Scrambled organic eggs, sliced tomato and a handful of seasonal berries. • Half of a dressed avocado and a few slices of nitrate-free bacon. • Pancakes made with almond flour and topped with chopped nuts.
LUNCH:
Plan your lunch ahead of time in order to avoid turning to a fast food joint or vending machine. Pack your lunch the night before and carry it with you. • Dark baby greens topped with chopped chicken breast and diced tomatoes. • Albacore tuna (packed in water), mixed with finely chopped cucumber over cauliflower rice. (See recipe below) • Turkey and Spinach Salad
DINNER:
Dinner is the meal where most people splurge and eat far more calories than they should. Eating at home is the first step in reducing your dinnertime calories. • Grilled white fish, sautéed spinach and almond bread. • Baked chicken breast with steamed broccoli and quinoa. • A big bowl of arugula topped with sautéed asparagus and sliced hardboiled eggs.
Just 7 Days
How quickly does a week fly by? Pretty fast, right? When you decide to eat only real food for 7 days you will be amazed at the positive improvement that you feel and see in your body. Do this challenge for yourself. In one short week you could be in the same, worse, or you could be leaner and excited. The choice is yours. You have nothing to lose except some fat and a few pounds right?

Hollywood Hills Elementary recognized with State Golden School Award Award given for outstanding volunteer programs for 34 years in a row Over 100 Broward County schools have earned Golden School Awards, the state’s highest recognition for community involvement. The Florida Department of Education recently awarded the 2012-2013 Golden School Award to 116 Broward County public schools. The award is given annually to recognize public schools with exemplary volunteer programs. Service hours donated in all forms of volunteering, including mentors, tutors, advisors and
advocates are considered. Hollywood Hills Elementary in Hollywood has received this award once again, making it one of only four schools that have received the award each year since the program’s inception in 1979 – 34 years in a row. During the school year, more than 39,400 parents, senior citizens, business leaders, concerned adults and students offered teachers classroom assistance, coordinated fund raising events, tutored students, and provided a helping hand in cafeterias, media centers and schools throughout the District. Hollywood resident Liz Stauffer releases murder mystery book Liz Stauffer’s new book Thursday Morning Breakfast (and Murder) Club, published by Sartoris Literary Group, will be released on July 6, 2013. Things are not always what they seem in Liz Stauffer’s fast paced book of murder, mystery, and intrigue. When the "breakfast club" ladies of idyllic Mount Penn see bruises on Clare Ballard's pretty face, they suspect her hot-headed husband of abusing her, but the truth is much more complicated. When violence disrupts this Appalachian village's lazy routine, the ladies, led by the irascible Lillie Mae Harris, jump feet first into danger as bodies appear, neighbors disappear, and Clare is arrested for murder. Follow Lillie Mae and the other "breakfast club" ladies, who, armed with casseroles and pastries, help the police uncover the deep secrets this town hides beneath its perfect facade. Liz currently resides in Hollywood, FL, with her two dogs. For more information, visit: http://www.lizstauffer.com.
