There’s an unwritten rule somewhere for newspaper editors that says that the first newspaper issue of the new year needs to include a “looking back/looking forward” section. Far be it for your Hollywood Gazette to not do the same. So much happened this year in our community, and there’s so much to come! First, Hollywood has a brand new city manager. Dr. Ishmael officially took the reins in December. We reached out to readers to find out what they would like to see from the new city manager and he will respond in the next issue kicking off a monthly column addressing your concerns and highlighting initiatives in the new year. The COSAC homeless shelter on Federal Highway will be demolished. While this is great news for many, others are understandably concerned with where the homeless will go in the shelter’s absence. The City of Hollywood has hired Laurie Ann Walton to serve as the coordinator for the City’s efforts to help the homeless and she has been working closely with the Hollywood Police and Sean Cononie to ensure the smoothest transition possible.
