Generations of the Shoah of Southwest Florida
G
enerations of the Shoah of Southwest Florida (GenShoah) was formed in 2009 through an initiative by the Holocaust Museum & Education Center of Southwest Florida. This group is not only for children of Holocaust survivors (2gs), but for all those who share our fourfold mission: “promotion of Holocaust education
and human rights, preservation of the history and memories of the Holocaust, connection of members of the Second Generation to one another and support of the Holocaust Museum & Cohen Education Center. GenShoah Southwest Florida presents programs from October to April and sends out a monthly informational newsletter announcing programs and related local and national events. GenShoah programs include “Movies That Matter,” Holocaust-themed films, meetings for 2gs to share their stories, local and nationally known speakers and Featured Speaker for the 2020 International Holocaust Remembrance Day, Sidney book discussions. Many Tassig (seated center), the last surviving “Boy of Terezin,” pictured here with his family and members of GenShoah SWFL. programs this season
are related to the inspirational theme of “Heroes, Heroines and Helpers,” including the discussion of the book “Witness: Lessons From Elie Wiesel’s Classroom,” written by Ariel Burger. The public is welcome to attend most programs, which this season have been presented virtually, but hopefully will also be in person. Any visitors to our community, who are Holocaust survivors, children or grandchildren of survivors, or who share the GenShoah mission, are encouraged to get in touch with GenShoah. Contact us to receive the newsletter or for more information. Ida Margolis 239-263-9200 genshoahswfl@gmail.com
