the Bradbury Building is a historic landmark in Los Angeles. it has been used for parties, weddings, and many a movie has been filmed there. i remember actor, Rudy Valle had a party there. the series Bandon was filmed there too, along with Jack Nicholson’s Werewolf or Wolf.

In the 1970s, during the day I attended Los Angeles City College, but from 4 pm-10 pm. I worked at the Bradbury Building in downtown L.A. I was hired to clean offices along with one other gal, Vicki, and a young man, Manuel. We, gals, had to wear clothes in fashion from the 1890’s. Can you imagine wearing long dresses to clean offices? It was a fun job though. Once, a tenant said of me—“I think the landlord hired you to harass us into paying our rent!” I think if these people were in their offices while I was cleaning, we would be just talking. I made many tenants laugh. i even dated a few too! Christmas was fun there. i got tons of chocolates.

In addition to cleaning offices, I operated Otis —that old cage elevator, slamming the metal accordion door, and pulling the handle and up or down. once on my shift while operating the elevator i sold chocolates for a school fundraiser to people taking a ride up or down. I was selling candy for my neighbor’s little boy, Marcos. Linda, a beautiful co-worker came in to relieve my shift. Hmmmm! I thought, she has big breasts and she would be a cinch selling to the men here, so I left her with the chocolate goods and with her goods as well.

Me contrataron para limpiar oficinas junto con otra chica, Vicki y un muchacho, Manuel. Así y todo, era un trabajo entretenido. una vez un inquilino me dijo: “El dueño la contrató para que nos acosara para pagarle el alquiler ¿verdad?”. Creo que si esta gente estuviera en sus oficinas en el momento que me tocaba limpiar, seria pura plática. siempre hacía reír a los inquilinos. ¡Hasta salí con algunos!

La navidad era divertida allí. Juntaba toneladas de chocolates.

Además de limpiar oficinas, operaba el Otis, un antiguo elevador enrejado. Cerraba de golpe la puerta de acordeón metálico, y tiraba de la manija hacia arriba o para abajo. Una vez, en mi turno, y mientras operaba el ascensor, vendí chocolates para una recaudación de fondos de una escuela a quienes subían o bajaban. Estaba vendiendo dulces para Marcos, el hijo de mi vecina. Linda, mi hermosa compañera de trabajo, vino a relevarme del turno. ¡Hmmmm! Pensé, tiene grandes pechos y le sería muy fácil venderles a los hombres aquí —así que la dejé con los chocolates y sus propios confites.

Cuando decidí tomarme un descansito, volví al elevador pensando que ya debía de haber hecho una fortuna ¡Qué decepción! ¡No vendió ni siquiera una caja de bombones!

“¡¡¿Qué pasó?!!” le pregunté... “¡Deja mostrarte cómo se hace!” dije al ver a mi primera víctima entran- continúa a la vuelta
