John Lyon ranks as top UK independent school robotics team at World Championships
The achievements of our VEX VRC and VEX IQ robotics teams this season have been remarkable, culminating in their participation at the esteemed World Robotics Championships in Dallas, Texas.
Competing on this international stage in the world of robotics has been a dream come true for our teams, leaving them with cherished memories, outstanding successes and invaluable lessons that will guide them in the next robotics season, for which preparations have already begun!
Despite it being their first time competing at international level, both teams showed incredible composure and resilience, and returned from Dallas with an array of impressive accomplishments.
The VEX IQ team, consisting of Alexander (9AHJ), Aarav (9ND), Sulayman (9SRP), Ameya (9AHJ) – who was also a former pupil of our Prep School, Quainton Hall –and their robot JL Discovery, secured an astounding 2nd place finish among all UK teams and claimed an incredible 1st place among UK independent schools.
Our VEX VRC Team, comprised Yash
(10CKL), Hemang (10RMC), Tarun (10RMC) and Rafay (10CKL), and their robot JL Artax achieved a 2nd place ranking among UK teams in the skills category and earned a position in the top 50 out of over 500 teams competing worldwide.
Congratulations to both teams on their well-deserved accomplishments and we wish them the best as they embark on the next competition season, carrying with them the experience and success they have attained at this year’s World Championships.
The School is deeply thankful to CluedIn for their generous sponsorship and to Kaison Asset Management for their additional support in helping our VEX IQ team fulfil its robotics aspirations at the World Championships. Furthermore, we are immensely grateful to the Lyonian Association and the 1876 Fund for their invaluable contributions to our robotics initiatives. Their support has made it possible to acquire robots and equipment, and participate in competitions, making for a considerable enhancement of our students’ educational experience.
“Participating in the World Championships was a dream come true for the team after countless hours of hard toil and we are very grateful to everyone who has supported us in this journey.” – Ameya, VEX IQ
