Chess champion crowned
Congratulations to Dien (10SCA) for his outstanding victory in this year’s John Lyon Chess Championship. The competition, organised by students and guided by Physics teacher Mr Kay, unfolded over the spring term and culminated in an exhilarating finale held in May.
The finals witnessed a gripping clash between Dien and Jordan (U6PWM), where both players demonstrated unwavering focus and determination. Their calculated moves and strategic manoeuvres kept spectators on the edge of their seats, leading to a thrilling tie break to decide the winner.
The tournament has been an overwhelming success, attracting enthusiastic participation from chess enthusiasts. Plans for the next academic year’s competition are already underway, ensuring that this newly established tradition will continue to thrive. n
