Sandiganbayan junks Estrada, Napoles bail plea with finality MANILA , – The Sandiganbayan’s fifth division on Thursday upheld with finality its previous ruling denying the petition of Sen. Jinggoy Estrada and alleged pork barrel scam mastermind Janet Lim-Napoles for bail. The anti-graft court said both failed to present any new argument in their respective motions for reconsideration that would warrant the reversal of the Jan. 7, 2016 court ruling. “After this Court has scrutinized every detail of the evidence presented, there is no need to impose on it again the same duty prescribed on the same arguments,” the ten-page ruling read. “There being no new matter sufficiently persuasive to induce a modification of the questioned Resolution, the denial of the pending Motion for Reconsideration is only inevitable,” it added. The Sandiganbayan’s fifth division denied the petition for “lack of merit.” The resolution was signed
by Fifth Division chairman Associate Justice Roland Jurado and members Associate Justices Alexander Gesmundo and Ma. Theresa Dolores Gomez-Estoesta Estrada and Napoles are both facing plunder and graft cases before the anti-graft court for their involvement in the alleged multi-billion-peso-pork barrel scam. The senator is accused of amassing P183-million worth of kickbacks for allocating his Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) to fake non-government organizations linked to Napoles. Estrada has been detained at the Philippine Police (PNP) Custodial Center in Camp Crame, Quezon City since June 2014 whereas Napoles is detained at the Correctional Institute for Women in Mandaluyong City. After drought, brace for heavy rains MANILA – The strong El Niño that has triggered drought in many parts of the country since last year continues to wane, but state climatologists are warning of a possible La Niña episode, which will mean unusually heavy rains, in the second half of 2016. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) yesterday said El Niño continues to weaken in the tropical Pacific and a neutral condition is expected by mid-year. Seventy-one provinces, mostly in Mindanao, remained affected by the dry spell or drought last month, PAGASA said in its latest report. Since the El Niño started in March last year, the agriculture department has estimated the
damage at P3.6 billion, with Mindanao being the hardesthit area. PAGASA said below to way below normal rainfall conditions are still expected over Luzon and Visayas this month, while significant portions of Mindanao are predicted to have near normal to above normal rainfall conditions.
La Niña watch
PAGASA’s climate monitoring and prediction section officer-in-charge Anthony Lucero said there is an 80 percent chance of a La Niña occurrence this year. La Niña refers to the abnormal cooling in the sea surface temperature (below -0.5 °C) over the tropical Pacific and is characterized by excessive rainfall. “The possibility of a devel-
oping La Niña is favored during the second half of 2016. With this current state, La Niña Watch is now in effect,” PAGASA said in an advisory. Lucero earlier said a strong El Niño is usually followed by an equally strong La Niña. He cited the 1997-1998 strong El Niño, which was followed by a La Niña in 1999 when many parts of the country experienced intense rainfall and flooding. The most tragic effect of the 1999 La Niña was the landslide at the Cherry Hills Subdivision in Barangay San Luis, Antipolo City that killed 58 people. The last La Niña event was in 2012 when the Philippines experienced massive flooding due to days of intense rains brought by the southwest monsoon. Philstar

Is PNoy already packing his bags? MANILA - Is President Aquino already packing his bags as his term winds down? Speaking to reporters, Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said there is a lot of work yet to be done before Aquino steps down and presumptive President Rodrigo Duterte takes over. He said everybody knows that the current administration only has until the end of June 2016, which is why it’s appropriate for them to prepare for the end of their term. Hindi po ibig sabihin ‘non na kasama ako, pinapapunta lang ako doon sa meeting,” he said. His office also released a statement sent to reporters thru text messaging. The statement read: “The transition committee created by President Aquino and headed by ES Ochoa will hold its initial meeting shortly. This committee involves solely officials of the Aquino administration. No
meeting has been scheduled with the transition team of Mayor Duterte.” Coloma said he learned a lot during his six-year stay in office and dealing with the Malacanang Press Corps. “Naging napaka-makabuluhan, maraming natutunan lalung-lalo na sa mga mamamayahag ng Malacañang Press Corps na walang kapantay sa pagiging masigasig at determinado sa pagkuha nang napapanahong impormasyon para sa kapakanan ng ating mga mamamayan,” he said.-Jorge Cariño, ABS-CBN News
PHL shares surge on Duterte’s econ agenda
Share prices on the Philippine Stock Exchange got a boost from the economic agenda of presumptive President Rodrigo Duterte, closing the morning session (as of May 13) on a bullish note. The mains PSEi gained 168.11 points or 2.30 percent to 7,493.15 at the noon break. The broader All Shares rose by 79.77 points or 1.83 percent at 4,434.72. “The stock market was
boosted, because Duterte provided investors with some clarity on how he will handle the economy,” Lexter Azurin, head of research at Unicapital Services Inc., told the GMA News Online. On Thursday, Duterte’s transition team announced in a press briefing an eight-point economic agenda. Global financial services firm J.P. Morgan noted it was a broad macroeconomic policy

No Pinoys hurt in latest Iraq bombings – official Filipinos in Iraq have been advised to remain vigilant and restrict their movements amid the recent spate of terrorist bombings in Baghdad that left almost 100 people dead and many more wounded. Chargé d’Affaires Elmer G. Cato said Friday that there were no Filipinos among the dead and wounded in the car bomb attack in Sadr City on Wednesday and the attack by two suicide bombers in Abu Ghraib on Thursday. “Fortunately there were no Filipinos among the dead or wounded in the latest attacks but just the same we would like to underscore the need for our kababayan in Iraq to remain vigilant,” Cato said in a statement. Cato also warned the 300 Filipinos living in Baghdad to avoid demonstra-
tions “as these could also be targeted by extremists.” He also urged the 2,000 Filipinos working in Iraq to provide their contact details to the Philippine Embassy so that they could easily be reached in case of emergencies. Filipinos who wish to be repatriated may also reach the Philippine Embassy for assistance. More than 50 Filipinos have been repatriated since Iraq was placed under Alert Level 4 in 2014. Only Filipinos with existing job contracts in the Kurdistan regions may travel to and from the Philippines as all processing and deployment of new workers to Iraq remain on hold to the unstable security situation there. —Rie Takumi/KBK, GMA News

Thai students caught using ‘Mission Impossible’ exam spy glasses A top Thai medical college has caught students using spy cameras linked to smartwatches to cheat during exams in what some social media users on Monday compared to a plot straight out of a Mission Impossible movie. Arthit Ourairat, the rector of Rangsit University, posted pictures of the hi-tech cheating equipment on his Facebook page on Sunday evening, announcing that the entrance exam in question had been cancelled after the plot was discovered. Three students used glasses with wireless cameras embedded in their frames to transmit images to a group of as yet unnamed people, who then sent the answers to the smartwatches.
Arthit said the trio had paid 800,000 baht ($23,000) each to the tutor group for the equipment and the answers. “The team did it in realtime,” Arthit wrote. Thailand’s Channel 3 news reported Monday that the students had been blacklisted. “We want this to be known in public to make people aware that we must be careful, particularly for medical exams where there is high demand among students but not many vacancies,” Arthit told the network. His original post went viral, with many either praising the students for their ingenuity or condemning them for cheating. “If they had passed and graduated, we might have had illegal doctors working for us,”

Italian court: homeless man stealing hot dogs did no crime
ROME (AP) — Italy’s top criminal court has ruled that a hungry homeless man who took a package of hot dogs from a supermarket committed no crime. The man had been about to leave the store after paying for breadsticks but not for the hot dogs and some cheese he had in his pocket. He was convicted of theft, and sentenced
by a lower court in Genoa to six months in prison and a 100-eur (£$115) fine. The Rome-based Cassation Court on Monday ruled that man was driven by necessity to take a small quantity of food. A columnist in Turin newspaper La Stampa wrote Tuesday the high court’s ruling “reminds everyone that in a civilized country not even the worst of men can die of hunger.”-Associated Press
wrote a Facebook user. Others were more impressed. “Cool,” wrote one. “Like Hollywood or Mission Impossible.” Medical degrees are highly sought after in Thailand, where doctors can make small fortunes in a private sector that has become one of the world’s treatment hubs. Despite more than a decade of impressive economic growth, Thailand’s education system is in dire need of reform with rote learning, long hours and poor international test scores still commonplace. In the 2014 PISA rankings, which measures global educational standards, Thai students
performed below the global average and much worse than those from poorer Vietnam in subjects like maths and science. Last year the World Bank said improving poor quality education was the most important step the kingdom could take to securing a better future, with one third of Thai 15-year-olds “functionally illiterate” – lacking the basic reading skills to manage their lives in the modern world. Critics say the kingdom’s high corruption levels and ongoing political instability has made deep-seated education reforms impossible over the last decade.-AFP

GDP growth pickup seen in Q1
MANILA – British banking giant Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corp. (HSBC) and Dutch financial conglomerate ING Bank said they expect Philippine economic growth rebounding in the first quarter of the year on the back of robust private consumption and higher investments. HSBC economist Joseph Incalcaterra said growth likely accelerated in the first quarter to above seven percent from 6.3 percent in the fourth quarter of last year. “We think growth may exceed seven percent year-on-year in the first quarter – its best performance in nearly three years,” he said. He pointed out strong remittances and election-related spending are likely to push private consumption while government spending and investments continued to pick up in the first
quarter. “We expect to see a strong acceleration in private consumption – the largest component of GDP – due to robust growth in peso-denominated remittances, election spending, and growing domestic employment,” he said. The economist noted an 11.3 percent growth in liquidity as well as a strong pick up in bank lending, particularly to the real estate, construction and general business activities, in the first quarter. Incalcaterra said downside risks to growth, however, are emanating from the agricultural sector due to the doubledigit decline in crop output on drought damage as well as the continued decline in the exports sector. Joey Cuyegkeng, senior economist at ING Bank Manila, said the country’s gross domes-
tic product (GDP) growth likely picked up to 6.6 percent in the first quarter of the year. “Except for a weak agriculture output, other drivers of growth look quite strong. These are domestic consumption spending, investments, government spending and structural inflows,” he said. He explained growth indicators show strong economic activity in the first quarter of the year. “Manufacturing indicators exhibit buoyant industrial activity while government spending is outstripping spending growth in the first quarter. Election spending is also a boost to the economy. Structural inflows together with a weaker peso-dollar exchange average in the first quarter add to spending power. Private sector investments are expected to remain strong,” Cuyegkeng said.Philstar

Investors await Duterte economic platform
Share prices will trade within a tight range as investors await clarity on presumptive president Rodrigo Duterte’s plans for the economy, after a quick vote count fueled a two-day rally, analysts said Thursday. The Philippine Stock Exchange Index was down 0.63 percent to 7,349.74 in early trading. It closed 3.09 percent higher to 7,396.52 on Tuesday, making it Asia’s best performer that day. “The biggest risk is not understanding what the policy direction of the new government will be,” First Metro Asset Management President Gus Cosio told ANC’s “Market Edge with Cathy Yang.” “We cannot exactly make investment decisions by drawing into a dart board. We have to know what the underlying goals that would
affect the economy will be by the next government,” he said. Duterte held a commanding lead in unofficial counting after Monday’s vote. Close rivals Sen. Grace Poe and administration bet Mar Roxas immediately conceded. The 71-year-old maverick mayor, who campaigned on a promise to wipe out criminality, is eyeing a “major rewriting” of the constitution to shift to a federal-parliamentary form of government and look into a possible easing of restrictions on foreign ownership of business, according to his spokesman. He is also considering hotelier and former agriculture secretary Carlos Dominguez as either finance of transportation secretary. The finance secretary is the traditional head of the cabinet economic team.-ABS-CBN News

Meet Jean-Claude Van Damme’s daughter Everybody who is a fan of action movies has idolized Belgian actor Jean-Claude Van Damme who is known for his martialarts action movies like Bloodsport, Kickboxer, and Street Fighter, but here’s another Van Damme whom you should get to know that is extra bad-ass. Meet Bianca Van Damme, a perfect combination of beauty and strength. At an early age, she’s been exposed to martial arts because of her father and mother Gladys Portugues, an ex-bodybuilder and fitness competitor. In an interview with the NY Post, Bianca shared more facts about herself. Bianca, who is 25 years old from West
Village, New York, told the NY Post, “I want to show little girls and little boys that you can be physical and feminine. That you can cross your legs at the dinner table and then kick ass in a nice, feminine way.” Bianca admitted that she didn’t like martial arts when she was a child. Her parents introduced martial arts to her at an early age. “My parents let us do our own
thing. When I was young, my mom pushed me into martial arts for self-discipline. I was 7 and like, ‘I can’t stand it.” Since Bianca didn’t practice martial arts when she was young, “she stuck with ballet and [ice] skating.” She practiced ice-skating until an injury happened that made her life direction switch. “As a teenager, I was so focused on speed skating, I wanted to be in the Olympics. I was stuck for a while. My whole life was skating. Then all of a sudden, I needed to find something new.” Bianca started acting and doing martial arts with her father in 2008. She appeared in the movie The Shepherd: Border Patrol. “I didn’t like what I saw onscreen when I watched my first film. I realized that if this was what I was going to do, I needed to do it right,” she said. Bianca has appeared in six of Jean-Claude’s films and coproduced two of them. She had different screen names such as Bianca Van Varenberg (JeanClaude’s real surname is Van Varenberg) and Bianca Bree (Bree is short for her middle name “Brigitte”). -Joan Leary (All photos credited to Annie Wermiel via NYPost)

John Lloyd Cruz on Angelica Panganiban:
‘Hindi naman imposibleng maging magkaibigan kami’ As his Star Cinema film Just the 3 Of Us continues to make it big in the box office, John Lloyd Cruz admitted he is just too busy to focus on dating right now. “Hindi pa eh. Marami pang trabaho. I’m really taking my time kasi medyo may edad na rin tayo hindi na tayo puwedeng pa-date date lang. I’d rather be working than dating,” he said during his launch as the new Great Taste Coffee endorser last May 11 at the Crowne Plaza hotel in Ortigas. The Kapamilya heartthrob was reluctant to share details with the press when he admitted that he and ex-flame Angelica Panganiban had been exchanging text messages. “Kasi alam ko na naman yung gagawin niyo dito eh. Parang pag pinag-uusapan na we’re in communication parang iba na naman yung ma-de-develop na kuwento eh. Di ba alam naman nating lahat yun. Kumbaga parang it’s normal. All but normal. Sana huwag mabigyan ng kulay or huwag mabigyan ng ibang ibig sabihin because dalawang tao kaming may pinagsamahan and hindi naman imposibleng maging magkaibigan kami,” he admits. Apart from helping promote his movie on her social media account, the Great Taste Coffee endorser admitted he and Angelica are on good terms despite the breakup. “Oo nagpapasalamat ako sa kanya (for
helping promote the movie). Ganun naman siya ever since eh. And like I said we’re friends so parang ang friends naman nagbibigay ng suporta sa isa’t isa,” he said. The 32-year-old actor shared what he thinks will make their friendship work. “Paano ba, openness sa communication? Yun lang naman yung mga puwede mong ibigay para mag-function yung friendship di ba?” he added. With Angelica’s “hugot” lines on Banana Sundae becoming more and more popular, Lloydy does not want to comment if it was meant to be about him. “Naku, ano yun eh, it’s a gag comedy show so parang it wouldn’t be too great kung isipin ko para sa akin yun. Kasi parang not everything is about you John Lloyd (laughs). Di ba? Napaka-arogante naman kung iisipin ko na lahat yung mga yun ay patama sa akin. Sa kaso namin alam namin yung totoo. Alam ko yung totoo and I think that’s more than enough para hindi ko isipin yung mga ganung bagay,” he explained. -Rhea Manila Santos

Urgent need for change

It does not matter if you are rich or poor, black or white, male or female. This is something that is offered to all. Or is it? As I look at this passage, I am struck by the fact that there is indeed a requirement for those who would come. The requirement is that we must be thirsty. Our problem is that we often do not recognize our thirst or, when we do, we look for the wrong sorts of things to fill it. The Gospel has record of the Samaritan woman. She was a woman who had

ou hear that promise so often that it has become a byword. We love the idea of satisfaction. Yet are we ever really satisfied? We talk about customer satisfaction and job satisfaction. The Rolling Stones complained the fact that “I can’t get no satisfaction, and I try, and I try and I try and I try.” God wants us to be satisfied, but He wants us to be satisfied in that which is satisfactory. HE is the satisfactory One. As John Piper tells us, “God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in Him.” How can we find satisfaction? Listen to the prophet Isaiah chapter 55 verse 1: “Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost.” The first step to satisfaction is dissatisfaction. To be satisfied, we first have to be unsatisfied. To be filled, we first have to be empty. For Myra, she got her open work permit and began the paperwork to land but she included in her application that she wanted her two older children to come as well (at the time both children were over 18). Even though they were eventually dropped, this caused the slow down on her application process. The real problem began when it was time for Myra to renew her open work permit. When she submitted her application for extension, she did not realize that her passport was only a few months from expiring. As a result, when she received her new open work

would like to share with you a file that I have been working on that motivates me to push for changes. The story is true but the name and dates are not, for obvious reason. Myra was a young lady who decided to come to Canada as a live-in caregiver about seven years ago. At that time, she had two children who were both under 18. She decided to work in Canada because she felt that her family in the long run would benefit financially and she could ensure better opportunities in the future for herself and her children. I could break this story into two parts and first tell you about the fact that she will not be able to sponsor her two young adults now. I will save that for a future article. For now let me talk about the processing of her immigration/visa status file. Speed up the count
P
ersonnel of the Commission on Elections began delivering ballot boxes on Wednesday to the Senate in preparation for the chamber’s canvassing of votes in the national races, scheduled to start on May 25. Today the Comelec itself is on the fourth day of its official count. As of the end of the count yesterday, only 87 of the 165 certificates of canvass had been tallied. The poll body has been commended by several groups for the conduct of the May 9 general elections. It will be even more laudable if it can speed up the canvassing. Even the Comelec-accredited watchdog Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting, which is conducting the unofficial quick count, is still waiting for the completion of the transmittal of votes. As of last night, the PPCRV said about 1.2 million votes still had to be transmitted from local precincts and another 400,000 from the overseas absentee voting centers. That’s a total of 1.6 million votes still waiting to be counted. The unofficial count showed Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte enjoying an insurmountable lead of about six million against his closest rival, and 1.6 million will no longer alter his landslide win. But 1.6 million can still determine the outcome of the races for vice president and the Senate. Duterte is fortunate to have rivals who have graciously conceded, with Sen. Grace Poe first to make the announcement and administration candidate Mar Roxas following several hours later. The gesture is a refreshing change, especially because Filipinos like to say that there are no losers in Philippine elections; there are only those who were cheated. The just concluded electoral exercise has been no different; accusations of cheating are being hurled and several losers are reportedly preparing to file formal protests. Admittedly, the accusations are fueled by the fact that the nation has suffered from verified cases of poll fraud in both local and national races, with the cheating – such as dagdag-bawas or vote padding and shaving – being conducted during the count. As important as the orderly conduct of the vote is ensuring that the votes are counted correctly. Speed is essential in the canvassing; a long wait fuels tension and even violence. Automation raised public expectations for a speedy vote count. After the generally successful voting on election day, the Comelec must conduct a swift and credible official count.Philstar

T
he 2016 presidential elections has proven that the Philippines is capable of successfully coping with the challenges of a democratic electoral process and preparing for an orderly transfer of power. After a highly charged and oftentimes emotional campaign, it is now time to unite as a people and support the incoming president. The results of the elections show that Mayor Rodrigo Duterte is the clear and popular choice of the people to become the next president of the Philippines. Once the unofficial Comelec trend was established, it is to the credit of his major opponents – Grace Poe and Mar Roxas – that they immediately conceded without waiting for the official results. Their gracious concession speeches and their pledges of support had a calming effect on the political environment. The immediate pledge of the Aquino administration to fully cooperate with the transition to the new administration has also assured the public that there will be an orderly transfer of power. One of the campaign promises of Mayor Duterte is that he and his team will “hit the ground running.” In the past two days, this seems to have been the case as several relevant announcements were made. The first was that four teams were already being organized. Two of these teams included a policy team and a selection committee. The names that have been floated

Time to unite The 2016 campaign was one of the most negative and even vitriolic in our history. Carlos “Sonny” Dominguez and Art Tugade are highly competent and experienced people known in the public and private sectors. There are names in the Duterte team that may be new to the national scene but may yet become national figures. Leoncio Evasco has been prominent in the Duterte campaign. His close association with the Davao City Mayor has been much written about. He was a political prisoner during the Marcos regime and met Duterte who was then a government prosecutor. Evasco was released after the People Power revolution and worked as Duterte’s chief of staff. He later went back to his hometown in Maribojoc, Bohol and was elected as mayor. He became a Galing Pook awardee during the term of P-Noy and the former DILG Secretary Jess Robredo. The 2016 campaign was one of the most negative and even vitriolic in our history. Perhaps, this is the hallmark of any democratic election. In the current American presidential elections, the negative campaigning is much worst. Donald Trump, the Republican nominee has accused his opponent, Hillary
Clinton, of being an enabler for her husband’s extra marital affairs. The most important thing is that after the elections, the will of the people should be absolutely respected. It is not enough to sit back and wait during the “honeymoon” period. It is also important that the new president should have the cooperation and support of all sectors of society. It is time to unite and heal the political wounds for the sake of the nation.
Congratulations Comelec The Commission on Elections and its Chair, Andy Bautista, deserves the applause and recognition it is receiving, with some rare exceptions, from the Filipino people. It was not just a very credible and a very speedy electoral process. Here are some record breaking achievements for the Comelec. The voter turnout was 81.62 percent, the highest in our history of free and democratic elections. The report of 164 violent incidents is the lowest in our electoral history. It was also the fastest in terms of the unofficial and partial results which, however, was accepted by the overwhelming majority of the Filipino people, and al-

BREAKTHROUGH most all the candidates. Within four hours, 74 percent of the precinct had transmitted results. In less than 48 hours more than 96 percent of the precincts had already reported results. I can remember when the results took weeks or even more than a month before election results were completed. The Comelec also earned high praises from foreign observers. As a Filipino, it was a proud moment hearing the foreign observers commend the automated election process in the Philippines as a showcase for other developing countries in the region and even the world.
High drama in VP race There is no question that the most dramatic race that kept millions of people staying up Monday night was the vice presidential race between Leni Robredo and Bongbong Marcos. It was not just the personalities involved but the ideological and political symbolism of
each candidate that made the vice presidential race such an emotional campaign. Leni Robredo’s candidacy brought together a diverse group of supporters including those who were victims of martial law. The Marcos candidacy was supported by those who wanted a restoration of the Marcos family to the political scene.
PDP-LABAN and federalism The electoral victory of the PDP-Laban standard bearer has also now highlighted one of the party’s main principles– the establishment of a federal system of government. The president and founding head of the party, Aquilino “Nene” Pimentel has already advocated a constitutional change to make this possible. The president-elect Duterte has already advocated federalism as the path to peace in Mindanao and the proper allocation of government resources among the different regions. The proposal centers on the establishment of 11 states which will approximate the current regional divisions in the Philippines. The states will be Northern Luzon, Central Luzon, Southern Tagalog, Bikol, Eastern Visayas, Central Visayas, Western Visayas, Palawan-Mindoro, Northern Mindanao, Southern Mindanao and the Bangsamoro Region. Metro Manila will be the federal capital. Federalism is a topic that I intend to write about in more detail in future columns.
Top campaigner of Du30 was Aquino Federico D. Pascual Jr.
POSTSCRIPT Roxas stopped singing hosannas to Daang Matuwid. In his final fighting speech, he did mention “matuwid” (without the required “daan”) but only once and in the closing sentence. Leni Robredo, the reluctant LP vice presidential bet, managed earlier to detour her dialogue away from the bumpy Daang Matuwid. Many listeners, for instance, noticed that she did not sound totally sold to the administration’s Conditional Cash Transfer doles that perpetuate patronage politics. But Mr. Aquino’s having amassed votes for Duterte, even if inadvertently, might still work to his interest. When the former president, naked as a plain citizen, is at the dock facing a slew of criminal charges, Duterte at the Palace might momentarily forget about change and look more kindly on his predecessor. • Don’t shut down Transparency Server ON HIS TIFF with Robredo, vice presidential candidate Bongbong Marcos (NP) is asking that the unofficial tabulation of the Transparency Server be stopped because, he said, it could cause confusion when
Mr. Aquino was the single most effective campaigner of Duterte. His monumental maladministration fed the dissatisfaction that sent millions of Filipinos from all economic classes trooping to the polls to vote for change. the final results show that the official and the unofficial totals differ. This looks like a premature overreaction. Right after the counting last Monday, all parties and major stakeholders were given an official copy of the printed results in each of the 92,509 clustered precincts nationwide. (Not included are the counts from overseas.) Any political party, including the Nacionalista Party of Marcos, can easily determine the correct grand total results by simply adding the precinct results given to it. The total may not yet be official, but it is based on official precinct counts that have evidentiary value. If any party is unwilling or unable to add the numbers to find out the true final score, there must be something wrong with its auditors or its computers. The Transparency Server, which has been useful to the public and the news media, need not be blamed and shut down. There are two parallel transmission lines – one official and another unofficial – toward the canvassing of the votes for the national positions. While the eventual totals of the official and the unofficial tallies will/should be the same,
at any given time, one of them (most likely the unofficial line) would give a bigger total because while the two lines run parallel, they do not run at the same speed. The official line also uses the manual delivery of the SD memory cards (containing the precinct results of the Vote Counting Machines) to the municipal/ city/ provincial board of canvassers, while the unofficial route (used by the Transparency Server) uses encrypted wireless transmission that makes its data delivery faster. That the respective totals of the two separate lines may vary at any given time is expected. But in the final complete run, their total should be the same – assuming there is no hanky panky. • Turnout 84%; VCM breakdown minimal THE COMMISSION on Elections said it would look into the possible liability of automation service provider Smartmatic Philippines for the over 2,363 VCMs that malfunctioned on Election Day. Comelec Commissioner Luie Guia said they might review the contract with Smartmatic that supplied 92,509 VCMs.
However, official reports show that of a total of 76,340 VCMs used, only 350 (0.50 percent) failed – mostly because of damage sustained while being transported. We are not alarmed by the reported failures, most of which were fixed onsite anyway. The 0.50-percent failure rate was way below the expected twopercent leeway. The Comelec under chair Andres Bautista performed better than the poll body under Sixto Brillantes in the 2010 and the 2013 elections. But improvements are still in order, including the full use of security features mandated by the Automated Election System law. There should be a review of the hand transporting of SD cards containing voting results, a detail that could compromise the integrity of the entire exercise. The Comelec must cite the authority or identify the person(s) who suggested and/ or approved this crude manual transmission of sensitive voting data. The Comelec should have anticipated also the need for voting areas on the ground floor for senior citizens and persons with disabilities. It was painful seeing the old, PWDs and heavily pregnant women hauling themselves to the second or third floor to vote. It is to the credit of the Comelec and Smartmatic, however, that almost all (98 percent) of voting results were canvassed

EFORE President Noynoy Aquino sends him the usual congratulatory message, Davao City Mayor Rody Duterte should rush him a thank you note for having contributed heavily to his coming ascension to the presidency. Mr. Aquino was the single most effective campaigner of Duterte. His monumental maladministration fed the dissatisfaction that sent millions of Filipinos from all economic classes trooping to the polls to vote for change. Saying the right things at the right time – punctuated by his trade-mark cursing – Duterte had become a symbol and a synonym of change. He captured the imagination of the milling millions grown tired of the incompetence, corruption, venganza and the lack of livelihood opportunities. Even the national capital, virtually a world away from Davao, was teeming with Duterte devotees from corporate offices to the slums, because of the slime and crime, the hellish traffic, pollution, unemployment, the general breakdown of essential services and the refusal of the President to fire the culprits. On the campaign trail, many of his own Liberal Party mates could only wince whenever Mr. Aquino mounted the stage to inflict his yellow presence on the event and start his spiel about his illusory Daang Matuwid. Mar Roxas, the LP standard bearer, could only force a smile. It was noticeable that in the dying days of the uphill campaign,

Alma Moreno blasts parody Twitter account MANILA - Actress and senatorial candidate Alma Moreno on Wednesday admitted she was hurt by the parody account that ridiculed her on social media site Twitter. “Masyado naman ako pinaglalaruan. Masyado naman ako binabastos na. Masakit,” Moreno told Jobert Sucaldito and Ahwel Paz on DZMM’s “Mismo.” “Ano ba naman to? Talo na nga ako, ano pa nginingitngit nito? Bakit kailangan ako maliin nang maliin? Kung anu-ano pinaglalagay. Tama na!” she added. The parody Twitter account surfaced after Moreno’s much talked-about interview on ANC’s “Headstart” hosted by Karen Davila. “Kaya nga sabi ko, wala sigurong magawa eh. Di ba dapat kung wala ka magawa, manahimik ka na lang, di ba? Para sa akin, ipagdadasal ko na lang s’ya. Bahala na ang Panginoon sa kanya. Anyway, para problemahin ko pa s’ya, hindi na no,” an emotional Moreno said.
The senatorial candidate said that she had taken actions to have the account taken down. “Ni-report na ni Wynwyn yan. Si Wynwyn, kahapon, sabi nya, ‘Mama, akin na nga ID mo.’ Nagpadala na rin s’ya ng dalawang klaseng ID ko (to Twitter),” Moreno revealed. As of Wednesday night, the account @ LovelinessAlma had been suspended. Meanwhile, Moreno denied that she was depressed by the outcome of the senatorial elections. “Akala nga ng lahat masyado daw depressed ako, dahil daw natalo. Sabi ko hindi, maluwag kong tinanggap na ako ay hindi sinuwerte,” revealed Moreno. “Kasi ang mahirap, dalawa ang hinawakan ko. Yung kampanya ko, saka yung kampanya ni Vandolph. Nung mga bandang huli na, nagconcentrate ako kay Vandolph na,” Moreno admitted.-ABS-CBN News

Comelec exec clears ‘KathNiel’ from election violation MANILA — A Commission on Elections (Comelec) official on Monday cleared Kapamilya stars Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla who are in hot water after photos with their ballots circulated on social media for allegedly violating election rules. Comelec Commissioner Rowena Guanzon said she saw the photo of the celebrities and it appeared that there are no shades of votes yet thus sparing them from violating the ballot secrecy law. “Parang nakita ko iyan sa Facebook ng pamangkin ko, parang wala naman, parang wala namang shade ‘yon,” Guanzon told the media. “Hindi pa siguro siya bumoto,” she added. Guanzon cited that even presidential candidate Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago was captured by the media holding her receipt before she folded it. The commissioner said the celebrities did not violate the election laws prohibiting them from taking photos of ballots because it is not even them who took their photos but the media. She said the voters
are not allowed to bring gadgets such as cellphones while voting in the polling precincts. “Iba kumuha sa kanya obviously, ‘di siya ang kumuha sa kanya,” Guanzon explained. Guanzon said she cannot tell yet if there are consequences to Bernardo’s and Padilla’s for they were not fully aware of the situation. Based on the photos, however, they are not violating the ballot secrecy law.

“Tignan natin ang circumstances ha, kasi baka may iba pang facts… pero sa ngayon ah, ‘yun lang? That’s not violating the secrecy of ballot,” she said.

Is Kris migrating to US? MANILA – Several hours after she voted last Monday, Kris Aquino packed her things and left for an undisclosed destination in the US with sons Joshua and Bimby. As in the first time she went abroad, Kris said that it’s also her doctor’s advice to relax so that her blood pressure will remain stabilized. During
their three-week vacation in Hawaii, Kris said she enjoyed being an ordinary mom to her sons, cooking for them and simply taking it easy. She came back purposely to campaign for her Kuya Noynoy’s candidates. This time, she will be away for two months and will be back end of July. ‘Our new home isn’t finished,’ Kris texted Funfare before she left. ‘Bimb’s school calendar was adjusted to open in August.’ Asked about rumors that she might migrate to the US, Kris said, ‘No, I’m not.’ Advised that she refrain from posting her comings and goings on social media (to avoid being bashed), Kris promised, ‘I won’t. I will enjoy my sabbatical.’-Philstar

within 24 hours of poll closing. The Transparency Server was a great help to the public. On the technical side, vote counts were transmitted from 13 regions just one minute after the polls closed, over 60 percent transmitted within two hours after closing time, and almost 80 percent within four hours. Results were counted and published online in real time. By 7 p.m. of May 10, almost 95 percent of total election returns had already been processed, just 24 hours after the end of voting. Best of all, voter turnout reached around 84 percent, the highest in recent history.
Trudeau formed the first ethnically diverse Canadian Cabinet with an equal number of men and women. The ministers, 15 men and 15 women, were mostly aged under 50. Laviña added that the presumptive president is also looking forward to having Cabinet members from ethnic groups and social sectors. Duterte, however, will not yet announce his new Cabinet once they have been approved by the presumptive president. “We are considering a number of names already but we are not at liberty to disclose them until they are okayed by the presumptive because mahirap naman baka some of these people are not interested,” Laviña said. vision, integrity, competence or ability and willingness to sacrifice. Duterte’s spokesperson noted that overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) might also be considered to be members of the next Cabinet. “The best and the brightest throughout the country and our brothers and sisters abroad, OFWs. Maraming talents that left the country. If they are willing to return, sacrifice for the next six years, of course we would welcome them,” Duterte’s spokesperson said. The Duterte camp had earlier announced the members of the incoming administration’s Transition Committee, which he divided into six Cabinet
clusters: Leoncio Jun Evasco - social development Christopher Bong Go - peace and security Carlos Dominguez - economic development Salvador Medialdea - justice system Loreto Ata - governmentowned and controlled corporations Peter Laviña - infrastructure development “These are the six major clusters so that we will be able to hasten the process of receiving... We are receiving lists, nominees, suggetsions of potential members of the Cabinet as well as sub-Cabinet positions
and head of various agencies,” Laviña said. Duterte’s spokesperson said the committee is looking for Cabinet members who have shared vision with the mayor, as well as “integrity, ability or capacity and (willingness to) sacrifice.” The Duterte camp is yet to meet with the team of President Benigno Aquino III for a smooth transition between the outgoing and incoming administrations. “We are hoping to travel to Manila very soon so that we can meet our counterparts and get a feel of the necessary steps to effect a smooth transition of power to the next administration,” Laviña said.-By Patricia Lourdes Viray

lasting, spiritual, never-ending source of spiritual water that would refresh her tired soul. You know the story and you know that there came a point in the conversation where Jesus said to her, “Go get your husband and bring him here.” I can feel her pain at the mention of the topic. “Why did He have to go and mention that?” “I have no husband.” Why did Jesus go there? It was to show her need. It was to make her thirsty for that which only He could satisfy. He does the same thing to us today. There are things that the Lord brings into our life that are designed to increase our thirst. I’ve been in some hot situations where the temperature was so high that you walked out and could hardly wait for a taste of cool, refreshing water. Has the Lord been turning up the heat in your life lately? It might be that He is at work in your life to create a thirst for that which only He can satisfy. This invitation is extended to all who are thirsty. “Come, all of you who are thirsty…” Maybe you are reading this and you are at your rope’s end. You have nowhere else to turn. You are broke. You are in a dry well. Maybe despair and hopelessness are strangling you right now. Maybe you feel you are just crawling closer and closer through that shadow of the valley of death. If that’s you, I just want to remind you our God hears the cries of the broken. He’s not a distant God. He’s not an apathetic God. He is near. He has inclined his ear to the cries of your heart. He hears your pleas for mercy. Cry out to Him. If you are thirsty and you know you are thirsty, you know you have nowhere else to turn, nothing else to hold onto, cry out to God. “Come to the waters. Come buy without money and without cost”. God is your joy. God is your hope. Normally, this does not pose a problem because she had put in her application for renewal. When it comes to live-in caregivers, renewal of work permits is almost automatic. The more serious problem came when she received a letter indicating that because she submitted the wrong fee (short by $100), her application was rejected. Because her application was rejected, she could no longer work because she did not possess a valid work permit. As a result, Myra had to apply for a restoration in order to stay in Canada. When I contacted Immigration, I was told that it would take five months to get her status restored. Here is a typical case of a former live-in caregiver who was in Canada legally but is unable to work for less than five months because of a processing delay. I was happy to learn that Myra had received her working permit four and a half months after receiving a rejection, but I was frustrated by everything that she had to go through because of one or two innocent mistakes. I believe that we must look at ways where we can improve the system and allow more discretion when common sense dictates fairness and just consideration. It should have been an automatic open permit approval once she had renewed her Philippine passport, or at the very least, allowed her to pay the $100 rather than having to go through a five-month long restoration period. Myra should not have been put in a very difficult position, when in my opinion, it was really not justified, even though I understand why it happened the way it did. Ironically, Myra’s immigration file was put on hold because she did not have status and had to wait until the restoration was complete before they would proceed with her file. What made the situation more frustrating was when Myra had to go to the Philippines due to a family emergency and because of the mix-up, she had to go to the Canadian Embassy’s Immigration Office in order to be able to return to Canada. Had this mix-up not occurred, or if some bureaucrat had the common sense to use discretion, she likely would have landed weeks ago. The good news is that Myra will land and become a permanent resident, and this will likely occur before the end of the summer. (www.mpkevin. ca)

AFP spokesperson Brig. Gen. Restituto Padilla said the alert level has been lowered since the elections have successfully concluded in most parts of the country. Under a blue alert, 50 percent of all available troops and assets are required to be inside camp for immediate deployment in
case of possible emergencies or contingencies. Security will remain tight in areas that will hold special elections on Saturday. “We are now shifting our focus from election operations to internal security operations. However, the Unified Commands of the AFP remain to have the
prerogative to implement security adjustments in their areas of responsibility as they see fit,” acting AFP chief-of-staff Lt. Gen. Glorioso Miranda said. The AFP placed all its units under red alert at midnight of May 7, requiring 100 percent availability of all troops and its equipment.—Rosette Adel

Outdoor workout fun
W
innipeggers truly know the importance of making the most of a beautiful weather. After a long winter of the same stale workouts, why not get outside and enjoy the sun, all while improving your fitness!
Cardio Run: Try trail running! Thanks to uneven terrain and changing surfaces, your body has to work harder with every step. This makes trail running a more intense and effective workout than pounding pavement. If you don’t have access to a running trail, simply create a route around your neighborhood! To jumpstart the intensity try changing up your pace. For example, alternate speeds from a sprint or jog and then recover at a slower pace (walk) until yourbreathing returns to normal. You can alternate the intensity in time intervals (30 sec, 1 min, etc.) or by using landmarks such as streetlights, houses, trees or park benches to mark distances. Bike: Biking to work or school is a great way to sneak in some exercise during your commute. It’s fun, great exercise and will save you money on gas or bus passes. Plan your route online for safer biking and don’t forget your helmet! Strength Training Believe it or not it is possible to create a full body workout without touching a single weight machine or dumbbell. Body weight exercise or “calisthenics “can be very effective, often working multiple muscle groups at a time. Benches, picnic tables, trees and playground equipment can all become exercise equipment with a bit of imagination. The following are some basic outdoor strength moves: 1. Bench push up • Place your hands on the
1 2 3
seat of a park bench; walk your feet out behind you until your legs are fully extended. • Bend your arms and slowly lower your chest toward the bench, and then push up. For a challenge, perform the exercise with your feet on the bench and hands on the ground. • Do as many reps as you can, working up to 15. 2. Bench split squat • Stand facing away from the bench and place one foot up on the bench behind you. Your other foot should be a comfortable distance away. • Lower your body straight down by bending your knees. Then push back up to the starting position. Switch legs and repeat. • Repeat 10 per leg 3. Bench triceps dip • Sit on a bench and place your hands on either side of your hips. • Slide your butt forward, supporting yourself with your hands. Your legs can be straight (more difficult) or be bent 90 degrees (easier). • Bend your elbows; lowering your butt to almost touch the ground, and then push up and return to the starting position. • Do as many reps as you can, working up to 15. 4. Step up or bench hop • Step up onto the bench, using one leg to balance at the top. Then step back down carefully behind you, alternate legs and repeat 10 times per leg. • For an added challenge, try hopping on to the bench with both feet and then stepping off carefully. Repeat 10 hops.

5. Tree wall sit • Stand with your back leaning against a tree or a wall. Slide down (carefully) until your knees are bent at a 90 degree angle and your feet are flat on the ground. Hold this position until complete fatigue, building up towards 1 minute.
6. Hanging Crunch • Take hold of a sturdy, low tree branch or monkey bars with your palms facing forward. • Keeping arms fully extended, bend your knees and tuck your legs in, slowly toward your stomach. • Do as many reps as you can, working up to 15. Circuit Play Combining cardio activity and strength training is a great way to burn more calories by keeping your heart rate up throughout the whole workout. Try getting creative! Integrate the above exercises into your running or walking routine to create your own full body circuit. For example, jog three light posts and then sprint to a bench. Then move into a strength move for 60 to 90 seconds (push ups, dips etc.) before continuing your running intervals. Keep going until you’ve completed 2-3 rounds of each exercise. Continue mixing up the strength moves and varying your speed to challenge your entire body. So get outside and get active today! Guaranteed you won’t feel guilty ditching the gym to enjoy the sun and a dynamic outdoor workout this summer. The possibilities are endless!

UFC invites Floyd Mayweather Jr. to call for a fight with Conor McGregor At first glance it looked like rumors of a Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather, Jr. fight were just that: rumors. Then Mayweather himself admitted to starting the rumors, and McGregor posted a hypothetical fight poster for the hypothetical superfight. All of a sudden it was much harder for people to ignore the possibility that this fight might actually be real.
UFC president Dana White initially called it a tabloid story, but that was back before both fighters fed into it. Now he’s making sure everyone knows that the fight isn’t going to happen without the UFC’s involvement. “We haven’t talked about it. Conor McGregor’s under contract with the UFC,” White told Dan Patrick. “If Floyd wants to fight Conor? Call me, Floyd.”
In another interview with The Kevin and Bean Show, White said, “It would be a UFC thing 100 percent.” But some insiders are questioning whether the UFC can actually stop McGregor from facing off with Mayweather in a boxing match, citing provisions in the Muhammad Ali Act that keep promoters from restricting the ability of a fighter to challenge
for a championship belt. Whether the often-ignored bill could actually allow McGregor to sidestep the UFC is still a huge question though. And now the UFC is saying it is willing to entertain the idea of McGregor vs. Mayweather, perhaps only so the promotion can take some control of a superfight that has developed completely without its knowledge or approval.
Pacquiao brothers: The Philippines’ newest political family dynasty Former eight-division boxing champion and future Hall of Famer Manny Pacquiao, poised to become one of 12 new senators in the Philippines, is not the only Pacquiao to win a political office in the May 9 election. According to the Asian web site Rappler, Manny Pacquiao is assured of winning his Senatorial bid, likely finishing seventh out of 12 spots to be filled, with some votes still to be counted. Manny’s brother, Bobby Pacquiao, also a former professional boxer, was proclaimed one of 12 councilors in the General Santos City’s lone district, getting 95,092 votes, good for second place in the race. Bobby “The Sniper” Pacquiao, 36, like his older brother a southpaw, finished his
11-year boxing career in 2008 with a 3115-3 record (16 KOs). A third Pacquiao brother, Rogelio, known as Roel, will replace his brother as the representative in the Sarangani Province. Roel Pacquiao garnered more than 86% of the votes to easily win his seat. Roel had been a councilor in General Santos City, but transferred his residence to Sarangani last year in preparation for his congressional run, according to Rappler. Not bad for a family that came from the lowest of the dirt-poor low class, first on the island of Mindanao and later in General Santos City. Iza Calzado: Hollywood can wait MANILA – Iza Calzado is not Hollywood-bound just yet. But her recent sojourn to Los Angeles saw the actress testing the waters, so to speak, by exploring the audition landscape there. “I didn’t study a specific acting course,” Iza shared. “I studied an audition technique. We are not used to auditioning here (in the Philippines for a role). I (also) studied some improv. I always think that there’s so much room for improvement. I’m not where I want to be as an actress (but) I’m happy where I am.” Iza went to the Acquila Morong, whose owner is a casting director. Whatever new insights she has gained from it will surely help her secure a mainstream or an independent film in the US. If not, she can use the experience (like learning an accent) in every project that may come her way in the local scene. “It’s better to be prepared,” Iza said. “I wanted to explore several things… Whatever it is, I’m just preparing for my future… Why do you have to wait for a role to come to you? Why don’t you prepare for it?... I’m just preparing for, if for one day, I just want to move there for a certain period of time. I’d rather be prepared and know that I can actually live there. It’s more of an ocular inspection. I always wanted to go beyond the Philippines — it could be regional (like) Southeast Asia. I just feel that we should keep on expanding our audience and market.” Iza also shared a piece of good news, if one may call it, that when she was in the US, the actress was able to book an independent film (thriller) with a Filipino director. horoscope ARIES (March 21-April 19): You are motivated to say exactly what’s on your mind now. However, you must pick your topics of discussion carefully because your words might stir up more controversy than you wish. You won’t be satisfied to tow the party line today, yet you still appear to have ideas that are intelligent and sensible. Be clear and stick to the point; others will listen to you even if they don’t agree with your opinion. Keep all communication channels open to maximize positive growth. TAURUS (April 20-May 20): Although sometimes you may be accused of avoiding the toughest questions, no such possibility exists now. You’re eager to discover more meaning and you want others to follow your lead today. But even if everyone understands what brings you closer to your truth, it could lure them further away from theirs. Don’t expect people to endorse your ideas by joining your cause; just make certain that it’s valid for you before you act on your beliefs. Seek answers from within.

Doris Bigornia criticized over alleged foul treatment of provincial reporters MANILA – ABS-CBN reporter Doris Bigornia allegedly threatened to hit GMA News Mindanao staff for asking her to move during a live coverage. Reporter John Paul Seniel claimed that Bigornia allegedly threatened to hit their DMNG engineer Al Lim Ramz. Addressing Bigornia, Seniel said Ramz “politely told you to excuse yourself from our camera since you became an eye sore to my live report.” He recounted that “Mr. Bong Go and I were on cam, but you (Bigornia) immediately scolded him (Ramz) and even told him ‘sapakin kita.’” Seniel expressed his dismay on how Bigornia has shown disrespect to the staff. “Nakakabahala ang inasta niyo,” he continued. “Regional media kami, oo, pero kahit ihilera ka sa amin dito sa region, namumukod tangi kami sa rehiyon namin dahil rehiyon namin ito.” “Kahit sa rehiyon namin, hindi kami
incisive Mercury forms a smooth connection with suspicious Pluto. Your words can cut to the bone and your message could inadvertently do damage before you even realize what happened. It’s one thing to take a swipe at an opponent intentionally; however, it doesn’t feel good if you accidentally hurt a friend. Thankfully, taking a compassionate approach right from the start enables you to spread love and light rather than fear and darkness. SCORPIO (Oct. 23-Nov. 21): You long for some quality downtime today because you’ve been running on overdrive for a while. Although the pace has begun to wear on your nerves, you are able to rejuvenate your energy by keeping your emotions private. There’s no need to tell all your secrets, even if you are feeling extroverted now. Don’t give away too much of your time; you gain more power by taking care of yourself. Clear your schedule to recharge your batteries and regenerate your vitality before it’s too late.
GEMINI (May 21-June 20): You are averse to making a major decision today and yet you know what your preference would be if you were forced to share it. Don’t let anyone coerce you into talking before you are fully ready or you might end up resenting whoever tries to control the situation. A kind word and a smile are enough to keep the peace for now. How much to reveal and when to reveal it is solely your choice alone.
SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21): It’s time to undertake a project that requires a serious amount of mental fortitude since you have the skills to concentrate until the job is done. Luckily, your ability to muster support from friends makes everything run smoother now. Although the potential for fun is always looming near the horizon, don’t be distracted until you accomplish something tangible. Dig in your heels and complete as much work as you can today. Determination is your friend.
CANCER (June 21-July 22): You aren’t necessarily feeling as lighthearted as you appear today, but others won’t realize it unless they push you to say something you don’t actually believe. Fortunately, your support is not up for grabs to the highest bidder. In fact, you might not be willing to acquiesce to someone else’s expectations right now; you just want to continue doing the best job you can without making any further promises about the future. Sometimes pulling into your shell is the best defense.
CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19): You feel as if you have been on an emotional roller coaster and it may finally be time to end the ride today. But you must be creative in your approach when you stand up to those who complicate your life with their expectations. Don’t blame anyone else for your extreme emotions now; if you do, you’ll just go around again and again in the same conversation. Instead, accept responsibility for your part in the recent drama and be ready to move on once and for all.
LEO (July 23-Aug. 22): An innocent conversation could take an unexpected turn and lead you into the shadows today, where you can see previously hidden areas of your consciousness. New ideas rise into awareness, inspiring you to do something about them; nevertheless, it might be wiser to simply observe your feelings now while waiting to act until a later time. Keep in mind that your decision to remain silent adds to your current air of mystery, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Exploring your dreams is more productive on your own.
AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18): You may be surprised by the intensity of your own feelings now that relentless Pluto trines Mercury in your 4th House of Roots. You assume that you understand the current situation only to discover that everything isn’t as you believed. Fortunately, you can think on your feet and are quite capable of quickly regaining your balance when a surprise comes your way. But don’t dwell on the past; once things are stable again, let go of any residual negativity you might be carrying for no reason. Creativity abounds when you stay in the present moment.
VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22): You sound quite opinionated about many subjects today, yet you might not be all that interested in sharing your most personal feelings. It’s not that you are emotionally detached from your words; it’s just this is more of an intellectual exercise now than something of integral importance to you. But you still could get caught up in needing to be right while Mercury is occupying your 9th House of Higher Truth. Nevertheless, backing down from an indefensible position is a true sign of wisdom.
PISCES (Feb. 19-Mar 20): Rather than looking for comfort from the members of your tribe, you’re more interested in having them infuse more meaning into your life. There’s a part of you that won’t be satisfied until you’ve turned your support network on its ear now that Mercury is pushing Pluto’s buttons in your 11th House of Friends. But most people might not be proactive enough for you until you do something radical that catches them off balance. Fortunately, once you shine your light, others will be more likely to follow.
LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 22): There is a sharp edge to your tongue today as
pa star, we work with humility and authority,” he added. In the end, Seniel noted that they may be from competing networks but told Bigornia that “we are still Filipinos and we should respect each other sa kung anumang trabaho meron tayo.” “Mindanaoans like my team (MELCHOR, JP, ALLAN) lighted a candle of good reportage and everybody follows,” he concluded.Philstar
