Duterte: I don’t want war in Mindanao despite attacks

ANILA - President Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday said he does not wish to wage war in Mindanao, despite recent attacks against government forces in the region.

MANILA – The House of Representatives sub-committee on judicial reforms endorsed yesterday a bill seeking to reimpose the death penalty for all heinous crimes, including violations of the anti-drug trafficking law, under House Bill 1. Six lawmakers voted for HB 1 while five wanted a substitute bill limiting capital punishment to drug-related crimes, arson and carjacking. Two other members abstained out of their pro-life advocacies during the deliberations. But opposition congressmen led by

Duterte, who is visiting Lanao del Sur Wednesday, said he wanted to check the structures that have been destroyed since the Maute terrorist group occupied the town of Butig on Saturday. The military is still in the process of retaking Butig but the President assured the people of Mindanao that he was not there to wage war. "I come in peace. I do not want war.

women underwent abortion in 2012. These women cited inability to afford raising a child as a common reason for going through the illegal procedure. "The bottomline really is we (want to) prevent abortion. In other words, if we use contraceptives, then you prevent abortion. Denying access to women is very unfair, very unjust and I can say cruel to our women who really want to practice family planning," De Leon said. He added the SC must not put up any obstacle to the right of couples, especially women, to decide when to start or expand a family. "It is about the right to

choose when and how big or small a family a couple wants to have. It is about the right to choose whether to use natural or artificial family planning methods," De Leon said. "With this TRO to stock out contraceptives in two years' time, the increase in high risk teen pregnancies and pregnancies in general is unimaginable," added Rom Dongeto, executive director of the Philippine Legislators Committee on Population and Development (PLCPD). Government data show 1.8 million Filipinos are added to the country's population each year. 

Twenty-five out of the 29 are 15 to 30 years old,” said NYC commissioner Percival Cendaña. MANILA, Philippines – The National Youth Commission (NYC) expressed concern yesterday over the rising number of young Filipinos testing positive for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), which it described as a worsening “youth epidemic” in the country. “The NYC is extremely alarmed by the unprecedented spike in HIV infection among our youth. HIV/AIDS is one of the most urgent concerns facing the Filipino youth today. Our young people are at risk and vulnerable,” chair Aiza Seguerra said. “The HIV epidemic in our country has a new face and it is the face of a young person,”

Reproductive health advocates on Wednesday rued the continued implementation of the Supreme Court's stay order on the use of contraceptives in the government's family planning program, saying it may lead to a rise in unwanted pregnancies and even abortions. Kentucky man sues for right to display ‘I’M GOD’ license plate

ODD NEWS

INDEPENDENCE, Ky.(UPI) -- An atheist man in Kentucky is suing state officials after his personalized "I'M GOD" license plate was denied. Bennie L. Hart told the Courier-Journal the Kentucky DMV

rejected his application to keep the license plate he used for 12 years in Ohio dismissing it as "vulgar and offensive." The American Civil Liberties Union of Kentucky and Freedom From Religion Foundation

have joined Hart to assist him in his lawsuit against Kentucky transportation secretary Greg Thomas, stating government officials should not have the ability to deny personalized plates based on religious or political

DTI: Investment pledges rise by 97% in November Investment pledges registered with the Board of Investments (BOI) nearly doubled in November from a year earlier, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) revealed Tuesday. In a briefing in Makati City, Trade Secretary Ramon M. Lopez said the Philippines registered a 97-percent increase in BOIregistered investments which reached P28.5 billion in November, up from P14.4 billion the same month last year. “Confidence. They see continuation and improvement in the macroeconomic policies, industrial policies,” he said when asked about the growth drivers were during the period. The economic managers of the administration of President Rodrigo R. Duterte presented earlier a 10-point socioeconomic agenda which builds on the macroeconomic reforms introduced under the administration of then-President Benigno Aquino III. The latest numbers raised the yearto-date pledges by 35.5 percent at P324.5 billion from P239.52 billion a year earlier. “The aggregated investment approvals

were generated from 323 projects with an expected 55,813 new jobs when these investments became fully operational,” the BOI said in a separate statement. These include big-ticket power and transportation projects: Light Rail Manila Corporation (P30.369 billion), Limay Premiere Power Corporation (P23.299 billion), GMR Megawide Cebu Airport Corporation (P16.750 billion), Energy Development Corporation (P16.750 billion); Light Rail Manila Corporation (P15.154 billion), Bayog Wind Power Corporation (P14.728 billion), Cordillera Hydro Electric Power Corporation (P12.175 billion), El Elyon Power Plant Philippines Incorporated (P11.641 billion), and Alternergy Sembrano Wind Corporation (P8.526 billion). “These investments support the Philippine Energy Plan 2010-2030 to search for, discover, and further develop energy sources,” Trade and Industry Undersecretary Ceferino S. Rodolfo noted in the statement. “The mass transport projects will be a big help for the commuting public. It will also improve and sustain the quality of life of the people,” he said.-gmanetwork.com

"And in this instance, personalized license plates are a form of individual speech equally deserving of First Amendment protection." Hart told the BBC he had no problem registering the license plate in Ohio and and sought the same freedom in his new home. "I simply want the same op-

portunity to select a personal message for my licence plate just as any other driver," he said. Hart became an atheist at the age of 15 and said the license plate is mean to display no one definition of "God" is more righteous than the other. PHL to expand space science capability for nat’l defense, disaster preparedness SCI-TECH The Philippine government is committed to expanding the country's capability to defend and fend for itself in the event of natural disasters and other emergencies by investing heavily in space science and technology over the next decade. Space science for disaster response Speaking at the 23rd AsiaPacific Regional Space Agency Forum held at Sofitel, Manila, on Thursday, Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Secretary Fortunato de la Peña underscored the Philippines' need for better hazard monitoring and management— all but a necessity, given the country's extreme vulnerability to disasters. According to the 2016 World Risk Index, the Philippines is third out of 171 countries with the highest risk of being hit by earthquakes, floods, and storms. Multibillion-peso investment De la Peña highlighted the benefit of having space technology for monitoring local agriculture and environmental conditions, even as he bemoaned the Philippines' dependence on foreign satellites for data and communications. "The key development areas where we would really like to have an impact is national security, hazard management and climate studies, space industry capacity building, and space education," De la Peña said. To address these concerns, he said that the government is investing P1 billion in 2017 and 2018 toward capacity building and infrastructure develoment. Thereafter, the country plans to allocate P2 billion per year. This is on top of the P840 million already invested so far in the

training of Filipino scientists in Japan. "The initial strategy is to send our scholars abroad... Eventually, we will be able to train our own (experts)," De la Peña explained. Growing the Philippines' space tech capability It will be recalled that the Philippines launched Diwata-1 earlier this year, the country's nascent bid for independence in terms of space technology. In October, lawmakers also filed separate bills calling for the establishment of a Philippine Space Agency. Also at the forum, DOST Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST-PCIEERD) Executive Director Dr. CP David said that work is already underway on the Diwata-2 satellite, which is expected to launch in 2018 and function alongside Diwata-1. Philippines' benefit from regional cooperation Both the Diwata-1 and Diwata-2 are developed by Filipino scientists in cooperation with Japanese universities and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA). Aside from the Philippines' partnership with Japan, the Philippines is now also part of the Asian Micro-satellite Consortium, according to David. He said that this regional partnership paves the way for better and more regular monitoring of weather, crops, and other local conditions from space. "(All of the member countries) get to share resources... The idea is that if their satellites are in our territory, we can request them to capture images for us as well," he explained. — Original artwork ‘Resistance briefing room’ by Tryingtofly on DeviantArt/GMA News

As can be seen from their ongoing ABS-CBN soap opera, Till I Met You, their characters evolved from teenybopper to mature. Are they getting bolder as a career strategy to beat other love teams? Would this be a good move for them as role models of the youth? As James and Nadine, better known to their six million Instagram followers as JaDine or Team Real, get closer to their first anniversary next year as a real-life couple, they looked back at how they progressed from friend zone to "bae" zone this year. Improve Nominee Program first before imposing new fee

WAS at the Winnipeg airport waiting for my flight to Ottawa when my daughter Cindy called me to complain about a brand new $500.00 fee that is going to be charged to those who are given a nominee certificate. Cindy was upset because for months she has been trying to get the Government to do more about processing times. We had a good talk about the program and the many problems associated with it. It is not the first time we talked about Manitoba’s nominee program because it is a program that both of us are very concerned about. This new fee will generate a few million dollars of revenue for the Provincial Government but we need to keep in mind who is actually paying the $500.00. People coming from the Philippines often rely on others to financially assist them in order to come to Canada in the first place. There is no doubt coming up with the $500.00 to get a certificate is doable but that does not justify the additional financial

This new fee adds up to all the other fees imposed by the program. Back when I started going to the Philippines to promote the nominee program, things were a whole lot easier and affordable. For example, a principal applicant could say that he/she has a brother in Winnipeg and they had some money held in trust for him/her and the only money that was required was related to Immigration Canada (processing fee, landing fee, medical costs, security certificate costs and airfare costs. Today, all principal applicants require language testing results, a minimum of $10,000.00 in a trust account, and now, successful applicants might be expected to pay the Province of

The Premier and his Government seem to believe that a six-months processing time is acceptable. The Premier has established that as a goal now. I strongly disagree. A reminder of the work to be done was issued over the weekend by the Management Association of the Philippines, whose head noted that the country is good at inviting and then frustrating foreign investors. Among the reasons MAP cited for this observation were restrictions imposed on foreign investors, difficulties in opening and operating a business as well as persistent corruption. The group cited the commitment of the Duterte administration to relax constitutional restrictions on foreign investments. MAP also lauded the efforts of the National Competitiveness Council to overhaul the regulatory environment by moving to repeal redundant, burdensome and outdated business rules and regulations. President Duterte, who has often said he wants all ordinary public transactions with the government to be completed within no more than three working days, can give the competitiveness effort the full support of his administration. He can also lean harder on his political allies to ensure that local government units all the way down to the barangays fully understand his objective of cutting red tape and eliminating corruption. Government must be a facilitator rather than a hindrance to business.-Philstar

Why corruption cases cannot move forward

L

AST Friday’s big breaking news was the death of Cuban Dictator Fidel Castro a true revolutionary who embraced Marxist and Leninist thought an ideology that was used by the unlamented USSR. He was a thorn on the side of at least 10 American Presidents, starting with Pres. John F. Kennedy when he allowed the Soviets to station intermediate missiles in Cuba and threatens American security and nearly brought the world into a nuclear holocaust. With the USSR as his patron, he was the face of Communism that plagued many nations that fell like dominoes when faced with insurgency. But when Communism fell in 1989 and the USSR broke apart and threw away the Communist ideology, Castro was left with keeping it for Cuba. In the end, Castro only proved that his only success was that he could grab hold of the people of Cuba for his own dictatorial desires and since he really had no ideology of his own, Cuba is still woefully poor despite the billions that the USSR poured into this small tiny island nation. *** One hundred million Filipinos are still awaiting the

Why talk about the Marcos burial when there is a bigger talk about the case that should have been filed against former Department of Justice (DoJ) Secretary Leila de Lima? Justice they have been denied from the time of the conjugal Marcos Dictatorship and into the last 30 years after the famous EDSA Revolt of 1986 even under two, not one, two Aquino Presidencies. If the socalled “Marcos Loot” was not recovered by the Presidential Commission on Good Government (PCGG), there is something terribly wrong with the way we dispense our kind of Justice, which in my book… is sheer injustice. After all, in Law School we learned that basic principle, “Justice Delayed is Justice Denied! ” Today Justice once more escapes from the clutches of the frustrated Filipino nation. Why? Because the Office of the Ombudsman Conchita CarpioMorales sits on top of the biggest scandal in the Philippine government where even the Philippine Supreme Court (SC) has already declared the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) and the Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP) as unconstitutional. On

Nov. 18, 2013 in a vote of 140, the SC declared the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) as unconstitutional and on July 1, 2014 the SC declared the DAP as unconstitutional in a vote of 13-0-1. Prior to the historic declaration by the SC, my good friend, Tony Lopez in his column in the Manila Times wrote that “Congress is the Philippine’s Biggest Criminal Syndicate.” In that article, Tony wrote that the PDAF alone was conned up to P25 billion. Again I would like to reiterate my call for the resignation of the Ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales as she has become the single cog that has blocked the wheels of Justice, a justice that contuse to elude the Filipino today. Meanwhile, I urged my good friend, House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez to craft a bill in Congress to overhaul or reform the Office of the Ombudsman. Pres. Rodrigo “Digong” Duterte fight against corruption in this country can-

BOBIT S. AVILA

SHOOTING STRAIGHT not be stymied by one person alone. Perhaps the Office of the Ombudsman can be repacked to be held by a five-man committee with no more “Constitutional Protection” which for me was unnecessary in the first place. This five-man committee should not be an appointee of the President, rather by both the Supreme Court and the Judicial Bar Council (JBC). But what’s the latest from the Office of the Ombudsman? Despite her earlier stand not to express her personal views on the Marcos burial issue, suddenly we got a report that The Ombudsman lamented the “lack of demand for truthful and honest discourse,” she said that “People nowadays easily believe lies and half-truths spread by propagandists and

fake news sites. A big part of the population would rather believe and share fake news sites and echo the baseless assertions of dubious bloggers and flame baiters. They no longer care to verify the veracity of these allegations. When supposed ‘truths’ about Martial Law and the purported ‘progress’ that the Philippines enjoyed during the regime are considered more fact than fiction, then we see a transformation of our values as a people.” Honestly Conchita? Frankly speaking, we don’t want to hear your yellow-tainted opinion on this issue just in case it gets into your office and you can already be charged for being biased. If the Marcos cases haven’t given Justice to the Filipino people… it is only because people like you continually fail the Filipino people every single day. Why talk about the Marcos burial when there is a bigger talk about the case that should have been filed against former Department of Justice (DoJ) Secretary Leila de Lima? Meanwhile we hear all that talk about the Ombudsman investigating Pres. Duterte in a case filed by Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV? She knows that today that case cannot prosper because Mayor Duterte is now the President.

S PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte just trying to confuse the enemy – or is he himself now confused on how to deal with the Abu Sayyaf group that is sowing terror in the South while claiming allegiance to the Islamic State advancing across Muslim areas? Before he assumed office last June 30, Duterte was saying he did not consider the Abu Sayyaf an enemy, that it is a link to achieving peace in Mindanao. He offered it the choice of talking or fighting. But four months ago, he ruled out talks with the terrorist group, telling a crowd at Malacañang: “I will not deal with persons with extreme brutality, there is no redeeming factor or reason for me to sit down and talk with criminals.” (We agree – fdp) To magnify its being a force to contend with, the Abu Sayyaf is now claiming links to the Islamic State, the self-proclaimed caliphate attempting to establish by force its political and theological authority over the world’s Muslims starting with those in Iraq and Syria. Displaying violence to catch the eye of IS, the Abu Sayyaf has made a big show of displaying IS flags and beheading kidnap victims (another hostage was executed IS-style last August) that they originally abducted just to collect ransom. The well-known Duterte “kill ‘em” approach apparently

Kung mag-full blast ako diyan invasion, ipadala ko talaga mga sundalo pati bomba na. “But I cannot do that because there will be huge losses pati civilians which is really what matters most. If you can really stop it for a while, while we talk pati Abu Sayyaf, I’m ready to talk to them.” The Commander-in-Chief said he was willing to open the talks himself: “Wala man rin silang makukuha kung patayin nila ako.” We have not heard of any Abu Sayyaf response to the President’s invitation to dialogue – we think not because his urong-sulong antics are confusing the terrorists. • IS flag flew over Lanao town hall! IT IS disconcerting to see on TV the Islamic State flag,

IS PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte just trying to confuse the enemy – or is he himself now confused on how to deal with the Abu Sayyaf group that is sowing terror in the South while claiming allegiance to the Islamic State advancing across Muslim areas? instead of the national colors, flying even for a short while at the old town hall of Butig, Lanao del Sur, where members of the Maute jihadist group hid Saturday morning when pursued by government troops. The soldiers were chasing the heavily armed group of about 200 led by Abdullah Maute, a Jordanian-trained terrorist who had organized the jihadist Dawlah Islamiya. While it was reassuring that the municipal building and other structures were recovered, with at least 11 Maute fighters reportedly killed, the fragile security situation in the area where the terrorists have relatives is cause for concern. A reassessment is obviously needed. Brig. Gen. Restituto Padilla, AFP spokesman, said in a radio interview: “We launched the operation with the aim of capturing the leader of the group sowing chaos in parts of Lanao, Maguindanao and Cotabato. They are also responsible for the recent bombing in Davao City.” The fight in Butig flared up after the military captured in June the group’s Darul Iman

stronghold. The Maute band fled to Butig as the military pounded their old lairs with artillery and air strikes. Fighting began around 10 a.m. Saturday when troops from the 49th Infantry Battalion engaged Maute members for some 45 minutes at barangay Bayabao Poblacion, after which the terrorists withdrew. As they escaped, the terrorists took time to hoist what looked like an IS flag at the abandoned town hall and positioned themselves in the nearby national high school and mosque. The flag was taken down shortly after by government troops. TV viewers also noted the risks being taken by the media, especially TV crews who had to be on-the-spot to capture and report the fast-moving scenes. In such situations, bombs and bullets would not discriminate between combatants and news reporters. One wonders if media owners have provisions for ensuring the safety and care (in case anything untoward happens) of their personnel.

Major Filemon Tan, Western Mindanao Command spokesman, said Maute had renamed his group Dawla Islamiya to impress foreign terrorists and get funding. He blamed the group for the Davao bombing last September that left 14 people dead and wounded 70 others. He said many Maute members are also with the Alkhobar kidnapping syndicate which used to be led by former lieutenants of Moro Islamic Liberation Front chieftain Hashim Salamat who broke away from the MILF after he died. Lanao del Sur officials reported yesterday that they were providing relief to some 2,000 displaced villagers. They said food rations were distributed last Sunday, with promises of more to come. Local officials and barangay leaders said no fewer than 17 members of the Maute group had been killed and that the rest had been driven away. It was not clear who did the body count and gathered the corpses. They said retreating terrorists took farm animals with them, although it seemed difficult for fleeing fighters to be pulling slow-moving livestock. One problem of media in situations like that one in far-away Butig is their usual inability to secure timely first-hand information and their usually having to rely on reports of authorities and local folk.

Ellen Adarna reveals

she passed out during her ‘nude’ photo shoot EARLIER this month, Ellen Adarna’s skinny dipping photo trended online and instantly gathered thousands of likes on Instagram. Today, she finally announced on the same photo-sharing app that she is FHM’s December issue cover girl. Her ‘naked’ photos were part of her photo shoot for the said magazine and it revealed how “challenging” it was given that the weather during that time was unpredictable. "Shot in the pine forests and beaches of the majestic Zambawood beach house, a sprawling piece of farmland property, where Mother Nature lent her hand in forging these iconic images. But she was unforgiving

as well—the searing heat, which then turned into a heavy downpour of rain, tried its best to put a halt to the day’s work," was how Ellen’s experience was described in this month’s FHM. The sexy actress also shared that she fainted during the pictorial. “At first, I was okay. Mainit lang. And then, all of a sudden, every time I’d blink, paitim na ng paitim yung nakikita ko. ‘Parang mahihimatay ata ako, kailangan ko ng tubig,’ I remember thinking. And then I fell. I was no longer in front of the camera. I was no longer in the frame,” she revealed. The last time Ellen appeared on FHM’s cover was in January of 2012. Ellen is currently part of the series “Langit Lupa” which aired its pilot episode Monday morning.-Joan Leary

Richard Gomez relieved by Kerwin Espinosa’s testimony Ormoc City Mayor Richard Gomez’s name has been cleared from allegations of being part of the drug trade when self-confessed Eastern Visayas drug lord Kerwin Espinosa said he never had a transaction with Gomez. “Di kaya ako barilin niyan? MAD ‘yan, wala ‘yang kaalam-alam," Espinosa said during a Senate’s inquiry last Wednesday, November 23. The actor-politician then said he felt vindicated with Espinosa’s testimony. “Sinabi ko talaga ‘yan dati, dito sa Ormoc, na 'pag nagkaron tayo ng problema sa droga, magbabarilan talaga tayo dito... It’s really a vindication na talagang from the start sinabi ko talaga na wala kaming kinalaman sa drug trade na ‘yan,” he told ABS-CBN News. Gomez also suspects that Chief Inspector Jovie Espenido of Albuera, Leyte PNP is the alleged “mastermind” behind these allegations against him. “He is really the mastermind of all these. Makikita mo naman lahat ng question sa Senate, hindi niya talaga madugtong-dugtong, hindi niya maitahi ang storya niya,” he said. It may be recalled that Gomez filed a case against Espenido and CIDG’s Chief Inspector Leo Laraga and Heidi Yutrago when his name was tagged as one of the alleged protectors of the drug trade. In fact, Espinosa even said that Laraga was one of the cops who received drug money.-Joan Leary

Lack of gov’t appreciation, support biggest hurdle for Filipino films

PANGLAO, Philippines — The Filipino film industry has seen changes in the past years and continues to change but the lack of government support seems to be the biggest challenge for filmmakers. Award-winning filmmaker Pepe Diokno said that the lack of support may be because the government does not see that films do more than just amuse. He said that the Philippines taxes films when, in contrast, Korea and France fund their filmmakers and require cinemas to play local films. "Governments like that recognize the power of film," Dio-

kno said in the 'Powering Small Business' session of the Ocean Summit in Panglao, Bohol. Philippine cinema saw a significant decline in production and distribution from the 1990s to 2000s due to a 30-percent amusement tax that the government collected. "By early 2000s, people were saying that Philippine cinema was dead," the filmmaker said. In 2009, the tax was decreased to 10 percent, which started a surge in the number of films produced yearly. Diokno noted that the Philippines has won in every major film festival in 2016, proving

that there is a market for different kinds of stories. "We're producing more and more movies. There are beginnings of collaborations between independent artists and studios," Diokno said. The filmmaker added that the Philippine government does not seem as eager for collaboration. "Here, where the general mentality is that 'Film is just trivial. It doesn't mean anything, so we can tax it. It's just an amusement,'" the filmmaker said. Diokno reiterated that other countries recognize the power

of film to "shape hearts and minds on their own country." "If there was more mentality from the government that recognized the power of film to shape culture, then we could do so much more," Diokno said. There have been changes in the government's stance, however. The Metro Manila Film Festival in December will feature just one film by a major studio while the other selections are by independent filmmakers. Metropolitan Manila Development Authority General Manager Thomas Orbos, whose agency organizes the festivals

yearly, called the new selection a change for the better. Film critic Nic Tiongson, chair of the festival's selection committee, said this year's festival is meant "to disprove the myth that quality indie films will not earn money and vice versa, commercial films cannot possibly have quality." He said the selection committee evaluated entries along these guidelines: "No. 1, only those films that exhibit quality, as reflected in the graded evaluations. No. 2, the selection (committee) should consider representations of different genres — comedy, drama, horror, fantasy as well as documentary and animation." The new move has been with opposition from big names who have were practically assured slots in past MMFFs, saying audiences only want to be entertained during the Christmas season, when the film festival is held. But the government seems set on the new direction. Orbos said the MMDA is sticking by the committee's selections. "[This] is the vision of the new MMFF kaya kailangang irespeto dahil alam naman natin na sa ika-aangat ito ng kalidad ng pelikulang Pilipino. The MMFF did their part. Now the challenge is on our new producers," FDCP chair Liza Diño also said in a Balita report earlier this week. She said noted, however, that "it takes more than just having a good story to be successful in MMFF." She said that "[c]ommercial viability and the right marketing strategy is just as if not more important."-Philstar

Aljur, Janine talk love & relationships

MANILA – His heart is in a state of bliss while hers is still recovering from pain. If you’ve been reading showbiz news lately, then you know the reason behind Aljur Abrenica’s happiness and Janine Gutierrez’s heartbreak. Then again, for those uninformed, Aljur is on Cloud 9 these days because he and Kylie Padilla are back in each other’s arms after calling it quits some two years ago. Janine, on the other hand, recently broke up with Elmo Magalona, her boyfriend of two and a half years. No wonder, everyone present at the pocket interview for Aljur and Janine’s Usapang Real Love Presents Relationship Goals wanted to hear whatever they could further share to the public. “You can ask me anything,” said Aljur who was obviously in his element when he sat down for an interview. So when the name of his ladylove was mentioned, Aljur began sharing a mouthful. Aljur confessed that his love for Kylie remained even after their romance fizzled out in 2014. “We became bestfriends after our relationship (ended). I cannot exactly say ‘nakipagbalikan ako’ because we both felt it’s about time; that we’re ready to be together again.” He added that their constant com-

munication made them realize that they still care for each other. “We talked about things from time to time and after several times of meeting and talking for hours in coffeeshops, we felt na di naman talaga nawala yun (love) so we both decided to be together again. “But it didn’t happen overnight, the process was gradual. No one took the first move. I think we’re just mature enough to handle things, na hindi dapat madaliin. That’s why, we came to a point na it just happened na lang; na nagkabalikan kami.” The Kapuso actor admitted he took to social media to express his happiness, sharing some photos of him and Kylie during their recent trip to Japan. “I should have done things like that before pero mas priority namin dati kung ano ang sasabihin ng ibang tao. But it’s different now, I show my happiness and I’m glad people have accepted us.” Asked if their second chance at love will lead them to the altar, Aljur said they haven’t discussed about settling down yet but assured, “I love her ever since and it didn’t lessen a bit even when we broke up siguro lang kasi we were young then kaya nangyari yung ganun.”

What does he expect from Kylie? “None because my love for her is unconditional. Lagi ko siyang binibigyan ng panahon and I avoid things that would lead us to have a gap or misunderstanding.” However, Aljur hasn’t talked yet with Kylie’s dad Robin to formally tell him about their present status. He is just waiting for the right time to talk to Robin who is busy, especially now that Mariel has just given birth to their first child. “I want to present myself and tell Tito Robin that whatever happened to me and Kylie before, ‘I love your daughter very much.’” Meanwhile, Janine said that lack of time had caused her and Elmo to go on separate ways. She was certain that she fought for her love but sob and sigh, they seemed not truly meant for each other. “’Pag mahal ko, mahal ko talaga. As long as I can, I will fight for my love,” Janine said. “But would it still be right to go on if it is no longer possible for love to last?” The decision was

mutual, said Janine who never denied about crying buckets after the split. “Kahit ano namang breakup masakit at mahirap.” And though she’s still hurting, she didn’t think or speak ill of Elmo. Instead, she prays for the success of his acting career. “I still wish him the best. Hanggang doon na lang yun; maybe we become friends in the future,” said Janine who steered the topic on her character Yapi in the latest offering of URL with Aljur as Kiso. “Masaya at mas makulit si Aljur dito at ako naman, my role is very focused on my career,” she shared. “This is our third time to be working together,” Aljur said. “I can say that Janine is a versatile actress because she excels in drama and comedy. May pagka-romcom ito kaya mang-aasar lagi yung character ko dito,” he added. Joining Janine and Aljur in the series that is set to air for four Sundays beginning Nov. 27 are Sherilyn Reyes, Dennis Padilla, Maricel Morales, Mikoy Morales, Kyle Vergara, Stephanie Sol, Bryan Benedict, Lovely Abella, Nicki B., Kai Atienza and Allyssa de Real. It is directed by Lem Lorca. -PHILSTAR

What happens when you don’t change your car’s engine oil?

To answer this question, we turned to a mechanic with experience and expertise. Jeffrey De Leon is the operations manager and owner of Forced Speed Motorsports. His workshop sees all kinds of cars, from everyday commuters to race cars that line

Your car running without enough engine oil means metal parts rubbing against one another. Naturally, this is very bad for your engine. “[A lack of engine oil] creates metal damage. Ang iniiwasan lagi sa engine is friction. So the less friction, the smoother your engine runs. Plus more power gains and so on. Mas long lasting because everything is metal,” De Leon says. NGINE oil works a lot like blood in your body. It protects all the vital organs inside your car and keeps everything in working order. Unlike blood though, engine oil has a limited shelf life and needs to be replaced regularly. But what happens when you don’t?

When it comes to changing your oil, De Leon’s advice is simple: “You should be as meticulous about changing your engine oil as you are about how your car looks, because it’s the life of the car.” He explains: “If you don’t [change your engine oil], the oil gets burned and nagiging sludge siya. The sludge becomes a solid material that will clog the oil passages. If the engine is not running, the oil is stored in the oil pan. In the middle of the oil pan is a strainer. Once you start the engine, the oil pump sucks oil from the pan. If you don’t change oil frequently, the sludge will get into the strainer. Once that’s blocked, oil won’t be supplied 100% to where it needs to go.”

He adds: “Once the damage has been done, nandoon na yan. It’s not like an illness where you get better. Once the damage is there [in your engine], it stays there forever.” Yikes. Okay, so now you know why it’s important to change your car’s engine oil. Question now is, how often? In De Leon’s experience, customers sometimes base their oil change schedules on misleading information.

tion, it’s not applicable,” he says. If you use your car for highrevving track runs, you might want to change your oil even sooner. “[A Vios Cup car] is a production car, meaning walang modifications inside the engine,” he says. “If there’s a whole-day practice session, after that we change the oil. The conditions on a racetrack are different. A race car engine is always at high rpms and the cars turn rapidly, so sometimes the engine oil might just be on one side.”

There are some helpful checks you can do in between oil changes as well. De Leon advises: “If kaya, check your oil and water levels every day before you start your car. If you check your dipstick every day or twice a week, you’ll notice if malapot na ang oil. That means it’s time for an oil change. Another technique is if you lift your dipstick and it doesn’t drip, that means your engine oil is already overworked.” So there you have it.

“A misconception of car owners is changing their oil based on the kilometer reading. The problem is, let’s say you travel 10 kilometers one way in Metro Manila. In one day that’s 20 kilometers. But your car might be running around two hours one way because of traffic. So you might think that’s only 20 kilometers that your oil will have worked, but that’s not true. Once you start the engine, nagtatrabaho na siya,” he explains. Instead, De Leon recommends changing your oil at intervals of no longer than 5,000 kilometers. “That’s regardless if [your engine oil] is fully synthetic, or mineralbased, or the expensive kind that claims it can last for 15 to 20,000 kilometers. Rep. Edcel Lagman of Albay immediately denounced the panel’s “railroading” of the House leaders’ bill. “There was no report produced before the vote was taken. Members were not given sufficient notice of the scheduled voting,” Lagman told a news conference. HB 1 was authored principally by Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez, Majority Leader Rodolfo Fariñas and Minority Leader Danilo Suarez. Leyte Rep. Vicente Veloso heads the subcommittee. He is among officials of the province who have been linked to illegal drugs, but confessed drug lord Kerwin Espinosa of Albuera town, Leyte cleared him. The justice committee led by Oriental Mindoro Rep. Reynaldo Umali will tackle

HB 1 and the substitute bill, and fierce debates among the pro- and anti-death penalty camps are expected. The imposition of the death penalty has been suspended since 2006 with the enactment of Republic Act 9346, or “An Act Prohibiting the Imposition of Death Penalty in the Philippines.” According to Alvarez, they intend to approve HB 1 before Congress takes its Christmas break on Dec. 16. President Duterte has been pushing for the revival of the death penalty and Alvarez said this was among the issues that the Chief Executive discussed with them when he met senators and congressmen during a recent Legislative Executive Development Advisory Council meeting in Malacañang.-Philstar

1. What is the pelvic floor? 1. The pelvic floor consists of two layers of muscle that connect the bony pelvis. These layers intertwine and criss-cross in a basket weave pattern. At rest the pelvic floor has a bowl-like shape flattens upward when activated. 2. Why is it important? 1. The pelvic floor provides support to the bony pelvis during movement. 2. It contains and helps maintain the position of the organs in the lower abdomen and pelvic region. 3. Why is it associated with incontinence? 1. As mentioned above, the pelvic floor supports the lower organs in the pelvic region. This includes the excretory organs like the bladder and their functions. The muscles you use to hold in urine are in fact the pelvic floor muscles. Therefore if you have a weak pelvic floor, you are more likely to have incontinence issues due to the inability to hold the contraction of the muscle group.

5 Fun Facts About the Pelvic Floor 1. To know if you have activated properly, find your hip bones and move your fingers one inch toward the midline. You should feel a small bubble or tightening under your fingers.

4. Are both genders affected? 1. Yes! The majority of cases of weakness in the pelvic floor muscle group are female, but both genders can have issues with the pelvic floor. The most common situation to emphasize a weakness in women being pregnancy, next is inactivity with aging. 5. How can I strengthen my pelvic floor muscles? 1. The most effective exercise is in two steps; 1. Laying on the floor on your back, knees bent with your feet on the ground. Try to bring your belly button to your spine. This will activate your core muscles 2. Activate your pelvic floor. The best way to do this it to imagine you are in the middle of urinating and your doorbell rings. If you had to stop urination mid-stream to answer the doorbell – THAT is your pelvic floor!

2. Once you have it figured out, try holding it for 3-5 seconds then relax. Repeat this three times. 3. To progress the exercise, try lifting one foot off the ground and see if you can keep the contraction. 4. As you become more comfortable with this sequence try in different everyday situations, such as picking something up, as you run to catch the bus, getting out of your chair, etc.

Having a strong pelvic floor will provide you with a strong base for the pelvis, more stability for the spinal column to sit on, more efficient movement, improved posture, decreased back pain and decreased incidences of incontinence. Jose Aldo wants to avenge knockout loss to Conor McGregor at lightweight Jose Aldo is not completely satisfied with being UFC featherweight champion. The UFC announced on Saturday that Conor McGregor would “relinquish” the UFC featherweight title, which would make Aldo the champion, while Anthony Pettis and Max Holloway will compete for the interim featherweight title at UFC 206. “I was always the champion and will always be as long as I’m in the featherweight division,” Aldo told Brazilian TV show Planeta SporTV. “No matter what happens, I will always be the champion. I had no doubt about it. The moment I lost, I knew the belt would be mine. It was a matter of time. It’s not the way I wanted, but I’m happy because I know I’m the champion.” Although Aldo said that it wasn’t the way he wanted to become champion again, he isn’t surprised by how it all transpired. “I knew that would happen,” Aldo said. “To me, I never stopped being champion. I lost that fight because of an accident. I knew that I would win a rematch, that I would be champion again. It’s not my fault that he’s such a [expletive] he was never the champion. I don’t see myself losing to anyone in this division or any other (division).” Although being champion may sound good to many, it’s not totally good news for Aldo. Despite reclaiming the 145-pound throne, he still looks to avenge his 13-second knockout loss to McGregor last December. But he’ll likely have to square off with the winner of Pettis-Holloway first to unify the titles. “First, I want to defend my title, and then go after a fight with him (at lightweight),” Aldo said. “Just like Dana (White) said, we can choose who we want to fight, so I want to fight him. That’s what will happen.”--Andreas Hale, Cagewriter

Boxer Vasyl Lomachenko keen to fight Manny Pacquiao, but only in 135lb category

World Boxing Organisation (WBO) junior lightweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko has confirmed that he would love to face boxing legend Manny Pacquiao, but only in the 135-pound weight category. The Ukrainian was in action recently when he ended Nicholas Walters' unbeaten streak by defeating him in round seven during their junior lightweight title bout on 26 November at Las Vegas. Boxing promoter Bob Arum who represents Lomachenko claimed that a match-up between the duo is a realistic possibility, however, the only spanner could be the category in which they would agree to fight in, as Lomachenko fights in lightweight and featherweight,

while the Filipino is the current WBO welterweight champion. "Probably 135 (would be) the max because right now I came in the ring [Saturday night] at 136 pounds. I very much respect Manny Pacquiao. I like Manny Pacquiao. And I would be very proud if somebody would give me the opportunity, to fight Manny Pacquiao," said Lomachenko as quoted by Boxing Scene. Whether the Pac Man would be interested in a fight with the Ukrainian remains to be seen, but according to reports the Filipino is interested in a money-spinning rematch with legendary retired boxer Floyd Mayweather. The 37-year-old recently revealed that there is a possibility of the bout taking

place and claimed that if "fans want it [the fight], then why not". While promoter Arum understands that a fight with Mayweather is what interests Pacquiao the most – but since the American retired and is seemingly not interested in a rematch – a bout with Lomachenko could be the next best option for Pacquiao's camp. "The Manny fight would be a possibility for the second half of 2017. That's a possibility," Arum said. Pacquiao, who made a successful comeback from retirement to beat Jessie Vargas via a unanimous 114-113, 118-109 and 118-109 decision, is yet to confirm if he is interested in facing the Ukrainian.-By Arjun Devgan

Kathryn Bernardo turns emotional over success of ‘Barcelona: A Love Untold’ Kathryn Bernardo, Joshua Garcia, and director Olivia Lamasan weren’t able to hold back their tears during the thanksgiving party of their film Barcelona: A Love Untold. Kathryn began crying after hearing the praises given by Direk Olive to their co-star Joshua who played the role of Tonying in their film. When she took the stage, tears further flowed on her face as she thanked their film’s cast and crew. It was announced that the film has grossed P321 million worldwide after four weeks of being in theaters. “Naghalo-halo lang kasi ang saya na nandito kami ngayon sa victory party na parang kelan lang nababaliw lahat sa set pero ngayon we’re celebrating it, masaya lahat sa naging outcome ng project,” she said in an interview. “Ngayon lang

Daniel, for his part, said that he was also on the brink of tears while listening to the messages of the other Barcelona staff members. “Nandoon na ako sa manipis na pag-iyak pero kapag umiyak ako wala nakong masasabi tapos nagiiyak iyak nalang ako,” he said. The actor stressed that he was nevertheless grateful to the many people who made their film possible. “Sa lahat ng nakasama dahil lahat sila ang laki ng parte nila dito. At siyempre gusto rin natin pasalamatan ang KathNiels sa pagsuporta nila sa pelikula at sa pagkalat ng magandang balita sa pelikula,” he said. “At sa mga hindi naman KathNiels na nanoood, maraming salamat sa suporta ninyo.” The tandem is set to fly to Vietnam next week for the premiere of their movie in the country, which is happening at the BHD Star Cineplex on December 4. Kathryn and Daniel have a solid following in Vietnam after receiving Vietnam’s Face of the Year Awards for their performances in the hit series Got to Believe early last year.-Maureen Marie Belmonte

Nonetheless, she implied that they have gotten to know each other better now, “Pero ngayon kasi, dahil ang tagal na nga namin, nakilala na talaga namin sa isa’t isa. Kasi di ba, hindi mo naman talaga makikila ang partner mo hangga’t nasa iisang bubong kayo, hangga’t ‘yung talagang 24/7 mo kasama.” She also said that until now, every day is a learning experience with him. Meanwhile, Tanya was asked why she would turn down Mark’s church wedding proposals through the years. The actress answered, “Kasi para sa akin, ayos naman kami, eh, di ba? Although it’s something really sacred for us Catholics and for us girls, pero parang ako kasi, why fix something that isn’t broken? Okay na naman kami. Masaya naman kami. May mga anak na kami. Evangelista, project officer at the DOH’s National AIDS/ STI Prevention and Control Program, the agency’s Epidemiology Bureau made the projection based on diagnosed cases reported to the DOH and the trend of the disease in the country.

In August, the SC Second Division found it necessary to keep the TRO which was secured by pro-life group Alliance for the Family Foundation Philippines (ALFI) in June last year. According to the decision, the Court could not lift the TRO because the Food and Drug Administration has yet to conduct a hearing on the concerns of ALFI that contraceptive implants, particularly the brands Implanon and Implanon NXT, have abortifacient features. The Office of the Solicitor General earlier urged the high court to lift the TRO, saying the registration and re-certification of contraceptive implants is under the FDA regulatory and administrative power and that the decision would have "dire consequences" for the public. "The TRO is a major stumbling block for the government to reduce maternal and newborn deaths in the country, decrease poverty, and uplift the lives of Filipinos by providing information and access on the full range of modern family planning methods," it added. The OSG also asked the SC to elevate the case to the 15-member en banc. --KG, GMA

Fast and furious “The epidemic is affecting young people at an unprecedented rate,” Cendaña said. “HIV incidence in the country is increasing at a ‘fast and furious’ rate. Even more fast and furious is the rate of infection among our youth.” Evangelista said the “fast and furious rate” of HIV infections in the country began in 2008. Seguerra called for immediate and comprehensive interventions to address the epidemic, calling on different stakeholders to help in empowering the youth with the right information to prevent the spread of the virus. “Unprotected sex is the main driver of the epidemic. We have to enable the youth to make responsible decisions, (ranging) from abstaining from sex to using a condom,” Seguerra said. Philstar

and Russia – to make this world more peaceful," Duterte said in an interview with Russia's RT Documentary Channel. The Philippines has an existing Mutual Defense Treaty with the US, which was signed on Aug. 30, 1951. Duterte revealed that in his previous meeting with Russian Prime Minister Dmitri Medvedev at the sidelines of the ASEAN summit in Laos, he did not ask for anything from Russia. "I personally requested to speak with the prime minister of Russia, Medvedev. So I told him my problem, and I said, you know, 'I am not asking for anything. We can survive with nothing. But I just want you to know that they want to be

closer to you and China because I do not like what is happening to us,'" the president said. The chief executive once again criticized the US for threatening to cut its assistance to the Philippines following the spate of extrajudicial killings of drug suspects. Duterte noted that the US has been threatening him with prosecution over extrajudicial killings when it is not even a signatory of the International Criminal Court. "And here is a guy threatening me with prosecution… then you see ‘extrajudicial killing’. What is that word? That is a word of a criminal justice system being adopted by the human rights commission. So if you are not a member, what’s your business in mentioning those words?" Duterte said.

Duterte stressed that it is not a crime to protect his people. "And you trivialize that with a prosecution and mentioning about the cutting of the assistance that we get," the president said. The president also noted that most of the Filipino people support the country's alliance with the US only because it has been a colony for 50 years. "It should not surprise you. It’s ingrained in the genealogy of the Filipinos," Duterte said. Duterte, however, challenged those who want to prosecute him to come up with evidence first. The president stressed that he will not allow the United Nations special rapporteur on extrajudicial killings to ask him questions like he is a criminal.Philstar

As peso weakens exports on way to recovery – DTI

MANILA – Philippine exports may be on their way to recovery next year should the Philippine peso continue to weaken versus the dollar on a “crawling peg,” Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) officials said. “If the exchange rate remains this competitive, I think it will help the export sector,” Trade Secretary Ramon Lopez told

reporters yesterday, noting the current weakening of the peso has been strengthening the country’s merchandise exports. “With exchange rate cooperating, of course that will help in the growth of the export sector. At this range, P48 to P50 to $1, this should be good and should be okay for the exports sector. What we don’t want is drastic depreciation or wide movements,” he added. Lopez said the current exchange rate encourages dollar earners or OFW families to have stronger spending power. This leads to higher demand which offsets higher import costs brought about by the depreciated peso. “With the current prices, it affects the export prices which in effect, better prices for our export products, meaning the exporters get more. A depreciated currency is also like a protection to local firms because while imports be-

come more costly, exporters have a better price for their products in the local market. That import cost can be offset by higher demand and that’s better because companies get better gross margin in the end,” the trade chief said. For this year, the country’s total exports are seen growing between zero to three percent despite an expected late surge for merchandise outbound shipments, DTI export marketing bureau director Senen Perlada said. Perlada said it is possible services exports could post a double-digit growth of 10 to 12 percent by year-end. Merchandise exports, however, are likely to contract, according to the trade official. “For merchandise we will be very fortunate if we end flat because we are down until the third quarter. We’re 7.8 percent down so it’s going to be pretty difficult. If it ends flat we’re okay for merchandise,” Perlada said.-Philstar

could not establish a 90-day processing time for at least 80% of new applicants. It was done before and given the advancement of technology, it could be done again.

Ayaw kong makipagpatayan, but please do not force my hand kasi may limit ho naman ang problemang ito," he said. [I don't want to fight with you. I don't want us to keep killing each other, but please do not force my hand because I also have a limit.] "Because when the time comes, it's going to be a war against terrorism and drugs. I would tell you now, I will be harsh. As harsh as I can ever

be," he added. Because of this, he said he is asking for the help of all Moros in ending the problem in Mindanao. "Mahal ko kayo at sana tulungan ninyo ako kaysa makipag-away ang gobyerno na wala namang katapusan. Panahon ng Espanol, Amerikano, kay Marcos, hanggang ngayon, so hanggang kailan ito?" he said. [I love you all so I hope you can help me instead of fighting with the government. There has been fighting since time of the Spaniards, Americans,

Marcos, until now. When will it end?] Duterte said the only way is talk things over, citing efforts to talk with communist rebels, the Moro Islamic Liberation Front, and even Moro National Liberation Front founder Nur Misuari. On Tuesday, he even said he was open to talking with the Maute group. "I plead to all of you Muslims Moro political leaders, men of influence, scholars, we can continue talking and try to sort [things] out," he said.abs-cbn. com/

I must say that the current nominee processing times are disgraceful. Far too often I hear about people waiting well over two years and they are still waiting for a decision. Very often I hear from people complaining that they have been waiting for more than two years and still have heard nothing. It gets to be very frustrating when, as an elected person, I am not able to assist more than just explaining why the system is dysfunctional. Having said that, I am happy the Premier is at the very least looking into the processing times but we should set a maximum processing time of 90 days for a minimum of 80% of new applicants. I choose 80% because that is a national standard used by Immigration Canada. As I am writing this article, my daughter is getting ready for the question period at the Manitoba Legislature where she plans to ask questions about the program. She tells me she wants to ask the Minister to explain why the government has chosen six months as a processing target for new PNP applicants and what this government is going to do to halt the unjust and unfair treatment that many applicants are receiving because of poor Government policy. On this point it should be noted that often, after waiting over two years, an applicant is rejected and it might be due for something as simple as forgetting to submit a birth certificate. My point is that I would like people to know that there are changes happening to the nominee program. Incorporating a new $500.00 fee would be a whole lot easier to accept if we saw real tangible improvements in the program such as speeding up processing times. Increasing provincial revenues on account of prospective immigrants should not have been the priority. Manitoba needs a nominee program that is fair, efficient and responsive to the needs of the Province and the applicants.

Ruffa Gutierrez on her new book:

‘Kumbaga sa pelikula, every chapter is exciting’ With her new book The Truth and Lies My Mother Told Me now out in the market after a year in production, Ruffa Gutierrez said she is proud of her newest accomplishment. “Unang una nagpapasalamat ako na after one year my book is finally out. The Truth and Lies My Mother Told Me ay isang napakahabang proseso pero ngayon na nakalabas na siya I’m very proud of it. I’m now an author! So it’s another cap that I can say to my journey in show business. I feel grateful. I feel very fulfilled that ABS-CBN gave me the opportunity to have my own book and to share my life and my journey with all of you so sana magustuhan niyo,” she shared during her book launch held last November 29 in Taguig city. The new book author admitted that her mom Annabelle Rama definitely had a big say in the final draft of her book. "Alam niyo up to the last minute my ever protective mother ay talagang nag-i-interfere. At last minute talagang sinabi niya na, ‘Kailangan basahin namin yung libro.’ Ako naman, imbis na magsisi ako na lumabas yung libro na hindi ko pinabasa sa mommy at daddy ko, pinabasa ko sa kanila at ang dami niyang gustong patanggalin. Sabi ko, ‘Ma, pag tanggalin mo (yan) hindi na kuwento ng buhay ko yan.’ I want the book to be authentic. I want it to be from the heart. Wala naman akong sisiraan na tao. It’s just me. This is how I was. I’ve been through ups and downs. I’ve been through loves, I’ve been through tragic loves, complicated loves, young love na akala natin forever love. Ganun talaga ang buhay di ba? So now that I look back, it’s my life and I want it share it with everyone tutal my life is an open book,” she explained. A year ago, it was her mom who launched her own book ‘Day Hard! but Ruffa said her book was not made as an answer to her mom’s book. "Alam niyo ba ang nakakaloka, mas nauna yung libro ko okay. Mas naunang na-conceptualize yung book ko pero sa sobrang tagal ko at talagang binusisi namin itong libro na ito, nauna pa yung libro ni mommy na ‘Day Hard. So this is maybe my answer sa lahat ng mga sinabi niya,” she added. Ruffa said The Truth and Lies My Mother Told Me hopes to set women on the path to finding the right man. Which is why she tried her best to share parts of her life that were applicable but not to pulge too much especially delicate details about her marriage to Yilmaz Bektas. "Actually yun ang pinakamahirap napapano ko i-kukuwento yung bahagi na yun ng buhay ko na ingat na ingat ako na wala akong masaktan and at the same time hindi ako nagsinungaling sa publiko. I remember kasi during that time hindi ko ma-explain lahat sa mga interviews ko noon s a The Buzz so I think with this book you will learn more, na maintindihan niyo talaga yung pinagdaanan ko. Ganun pala si Ruffa, kaya pala ganun siya. Mas maiintindihan niyo ako,” she shared. As for her daughters Lorin and Venice, the 42-year-old mother said she wants to inspire them as well. "Well I told them that my book is dedicated to them. I have two girls and I want them to learn from my mistakes. I want them to learn from my journey in life. And sa tingin ko naman lahat ng pinagdaanan ko at lahat ng nangyari sa buhay ko it made me the woman that I am today. So I want my daughters to know that you don’t need a man in order to survive. What’s important is that you love yourself first. Kasi pag minahal mo yung sarili mo, it’s so easy for you to love other people. Hindi tayo kailangan maging clingy. So I want to be leaders. I want them to be strong women,” she said. -Rhea Manila Santos

Pokwang stays strong as mom’s condition worsens MANILA – Comedienne Pokwang wasn’t her usual funny self during a recent interview where she talked about her ailing mother Gloria, who is suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. The “Till I Met You” actress revealed that the condition of her mother has worsened and that she is trying to stay strong for her. "Dinadaan ko na lang sa patawa, pero sobrang lungkot ko. Hindi ko ipinapakita sa kanya na malungkot ako, na umiiyak ako," she was quoted to have said in an article on entertainment site Push. Pokwang said her mother has already lost her memories to the point that she no longer knows her and her siblings’ names.

Sinasakal niya. Kaya aaliwin na lang namin at papatawanin,” she added. Pokwang said her mother is also one of the reasons she is transferring to a smaller house soon. "Two-storey lang itong lilipatan namin.

Gusto ko, katabi ng room ko ang room ni mama. Sa dating bahay kasi, nasa third floor ako, tapos si mama sa baba. Ang daming stories nga ‘di ba na nakakaalis si mama ng room niya. Malalaman na lang namin, nasa guard house na. Itong bagong bahay, mas tight ang security, lola-friendly and hindi kataasan,” she said. Pokwang and her family will transfer to their new house during the first week of December. ABS-CBN News
