ANILA (UPDATED) - Omar Maute and Isnilon Hapilon, top leaders of Islamic Stateinspired extremists Maute group, were killed in a military assault early Monday, an official said. Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said the whereabouts of Hapilon and
Maute, who were holed up in a building in Marawi City, were divulged by a female hostage who managed to escape. “They were able to get a testimony from a hostage who was able to escape. She was able to confirm the presence of Isnilon and Maute in that particular building. That’s the building that we assaulted this morning. They are confirmed dead,” Lorenzana said in a press conference. Photos from ABS-CBN sources earlier showed the cadavers of Hapilon and Maute.

Safest cities in the world: Manila in bottom 10 MANILA, Philippines — Even with the government’s campaign against drugs and crime, Manila remains one of the most unsafe cities in the world to live in, according to a study conducted by the research division of London-based magazine The Economist. Manila ranked 55th out of the 60 cities covered by the Safe Cities Index 2017, a study conducted by the Economist Intelligence Unit that looks at the digital, health, infrastructure and personal security of cities included in the sample. It was unclear if the index took into account data from the administrative boundary of Manila as a city or from the entire greater Manila area for the study. However, the United Nations World Cities data booklet cited in the report classifies Manila as an urban agglomeration, which considers the contiguous urban area beyond the local government. Joining Manila in the bottom 10 are Cairo (Egypt), Tehran (Iran), Caracas (Venezuela), Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam), Jakarta (Indonesia), Dhaka (Bangladesh), Yangon (Myanmar) and Karachi (Pakistan). Based on the report, Manila consistently ranked low in various indicators used for the safe cities index, topping the list in terms of death due to natural disasters. The Philippine capital was the second most dangerous in terms of digital security next to Jakarta, and fifth least safe in infrastructure security after Dhaka, Karachi, Yangon and Quito (Ecuador). Manila was also 14th in terms of death in vehicular accidents, and 19th in frequency and severity of terrorist attacks. “As cities grow in size the potential for catastrophic breakdowns will only increase, whether from the meltdown of a nuclear plant, a natural disaster or attacks from criminal networks or terrorist groups,”
the report read. “However, despite the growing risks, cities have plenty of tools at their disposal when it comes to increasing urban safety and security. Technology can enhance the efficiency of urban infrastructure and improve crime detection,” it added. Meanwhile, the latest safe cities index identified Tokyo in Japan as the safest city to live in, followed by Singapore, Osaka (Japan), Toronto (Canada) and Melbourne (Australia). Completing the top 10 are Amsterdam (Netherlands), Sydney (Australia), Stockholm (Sweden), Hong Kong (China) and Zurich (Switzerland).Philstar

New PH-EU partnership MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Loren Legarda is confident that relations between the Philippines and the European Union (EU) will remain strong despite the latest tirades of President Duterte against its members. As this developed, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) clarified on Friday that the United Kingdom has no recent financial assistance to the Philippines as mistakenly claimed by Duterte. Legarda, chair of the Senate committee on foreign relations, said the long-standing partnership between the Philippines and the European community, which dates back to 1964, is expected to improve further. “We value our bilateral relations with the EU and we expect this to be more robust, especially with the impending concurrence of the Senate in the ratification of our Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (PCA) with them,” Legarda said. Duterte ratified the Framework Agreement on Partnership and Cooperation between the Philippines and the EU last Feb. 28. All 28 member-states of the EU have rati-
fied the PCA, and the EU Council is set to adopt a conclusion on its ratification. Legarda said she expects the Senate’s concurrence in the ratification of the agreement, which will serve as a general framework of relations between the Philippines and the EU and will allow better cooperation between the two parties on political, economic and development issues, to come soon. “We are currently negotiating a free trade agreement (FTA) with the EU which will be linked to the PCA. Through the FTA, we will be able to further unlock our trade and economic potential by providing our products with wider access to the markets of the member-states of the European Union, thereby ensuring benefits for small and medium enterprises,” Legarda said. According to Legarda, the Philippines will benefit from the PCA through various fronts such as customs and trade facilitation, which will provide technical assistance and exchange of experts between the Philippines’ Bureau of Customs and EU Customs administrations.Philstar

CBCP denies hand in Duterte ‘destabilization’ MANILA - The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) denied Sunday an alleged plot to undermine President Rodrigo Duterte, even as it called for the public to join a prayer rally condemning the killings under his anti-narcotics drive. Duterte last week threatened to jail communist leaders and establish a “revolutionary government,” if opponents tried to destabilize his rule. His warning came as the influential Catholic Church and leftist groups took a prominent role in speaking out against his drug war. “Walang layunin na patalsikin ang ating Pangulo, i-undermine ang ating Pangulo. Mariin naming sinasabi na ang Simbahan ay hindi gagawa ng hakbang para i-undermine natin ang Pangulo,” Fr. Jerome Secillano, executive secretary of the CBCP Public Affairs committee, told DZMM. “Hindi magandang isipin ng taumbayan na ito ay People Power, na ang Simbahan ay nag-aalsa,” he added. (There is no goal to oust our President from office or undermine our President. We strongly assert that the Catholic Church will not take steps to undermine the President. The public should not think that we are mounting a People Power, that the Church is heading a uprising.) Church leaders “condemn in the strongest sense” the narcotics trade, but they cannot support the deaths of thousands of drug suspects in law enforcement operations, Secillano said. “Ang Simbahan naman kasi, patuloy na naninindigan iyan na hindi puwede talagang suportahan iyung mga patayan na nangyayari,” the CBCP officer said.-ABS-CBN News

Giant pumpkins crush cars at annual event in Maine Oct. 11 (UPI) -- Massive pumpkins were dropped from a crane to destroy cars parked below as part of a Maine city’s annual tradition. Footage from the weekend’s 2017 Damariscotta Pumpkinfest and Regatta, which marked its 11th year, shows gigantic pumpkins being lifted 180 feet over the ground by a crane before being dropped. The video shows the giant pumpkins being used to crush an SUV and a pink car, both of which previously had their windows removed for safety. The footage also shows a massive pumpkin making a splash when it is dropped into an inflatable pool.
$2 million worth of gold flushes through Swiss sewers each year MANILA- Around 500 policemen will be deployed to ensure the security of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit here this November. The Philippine National Police Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) will prepare 28 convoy packages for the safe movement of state leaders who will attend the summit, Senior Insp. Jem Delantes, spokesperson for the PNP-HPG said in a press briefing Friday. Delantes said 5 motorcycles and 2 patrol cars will be deployed to each convoy package for each state leader while 2 motorcycles and 1 patrol car will be allotted for each convoy package of spouses of leaders, ministers, and other delegates. Another 15 convoy packages will be on standby for other delegates who would either travel within the metro or attend other meetings. “Hindi kasi natin maiwasan ang biglaang lakad ng mga del-
egates, or ang mga delegates o ministers na may sumingit. At least meron tayong reserved convoy packages,” Delantes said. Delantes also appealed to the public to cooperate with the security measures that will be implemented, particularly in routes where the convoy of the delegates will pass. “Sa mga darating na araw, magkakaroon kami ng SIMEX or route familiarization, considering yung area ng operations natin sa ASEAN ay malaki, Clark to Manila to Clark,” Delantes said. Leaders and top diplomats from the regional bloc will hold a series of meetings in Manila and Clark, Pampanga from Nov. 10 to 14. United States President Donald Trump will also attend the summit according to the White House. Metro Manila mayors have already agreed to suspend classes on Nov. 16-17 to give way to the Philippines’ hosting of the summit.ABS-CBN News
Oct. 11 (UPI) -- Scientists reported that about millions of dollars worth of gold and silver float through Switzerland’s sewer systems every year. A study by environmental chemists Eawag discovered 1.5 million francs worth of gold and silver each are lost through sludge from wastewater treatment plants in addition to rare earth metals such as gadolinium and the heavy metal niobium. “Trace elements are increasingly widely used in the high-tech and medical sectors - for example, the transition metal tantalum and the semimetal germanium in electronic components, niobium and titanium in alloys and coatings, or gadolinium as a contrast medium and in luminous paints,” the study said. “While the ultimate fate of the various elements has been little studied to date, a large proportion is known to enter wastewater.” Eawag said that distribution of the trace amounts of precious metals varies greatly throughout the country but were elevated in Jura, likely due to the presence of the watchmaking industry. Scientists determined it’s not worthwhile to recover the trace amounts of the elements outside of exceptional cases. “The recovery of metals from wastewater or sludge is scarcely worthwhile at present, either financially or in terms of the amounts which could be extracted,” the study said.

Henry Sy goes back to ‘Shoe Mart’ roots with retail experiment business MANILA - At a corner of one of billionaire Henry Sy’s less glitzy malls, employees stack boxes of shoes in a warehouse-like space for budget shoppers. Customers at Simply Shoes can pick out by themselves sneakers, sandals and heels from the plain displays that are piled up to the ceiling, as they would in supermarkets and outlet shops. As it seeks to tap into the middle class that is growing more affluent, Simply Shoes is also a tribute to Sy’s beginnings at the first “Shoe Mart” in downtown Manila’s Carriedo, the seed of his mall empire, said SM Retail senior vice president for shoes and bags Eugene Saw. “He got busy with other businesses, but his true love, his true passion is in the shoe business, so it’s really going back to the roots,” Saw said of the country’s richest man. “As we grow big, we also want to stay true to ourselves. In fact, that’s one of Mr. Sy’s
dreams. He stated years before that he wanted to sell a pair of footwear to every Filipino. So it’s part of accomplishing his mission,” Saw told ABS-CBN News at a branch in SM Sangandaan Caloocan. Simply Shoes has 29 branches and 2 more are opening this week, mostly in emerging cities. Only 5 branches are in Mega Manila, Saw said. SM has 63 malls in the Philippines and 7 others in China, where Sy was born. The company has also been building a portfolio of “Premier” branded malls that cater to the upscale shoppers. While Simply Shoes targets the budget conscious, its plain retail concept is a little different from the Shoe Mart of the 80s and 90s. Customers before would ask sales representatives in navy blue uniforms for a shoe size on the department store floor. A second staffer will literally drop the order from a hole in the ceiling.
Majority of Filipinos support drug war, believe EJKs occur — Pulse Asia MANILA, Philippines —An overwhelming majority of Filipinos support the government’s campaign against illegal drugs despite their belief that extrajudicial killings happen, the latest Pulse Asia survey suggested on Monday. Out of the 1,200 respondents in Pulse Asia’s Ulat ng Bayan survey, 88 percent of respondents expressed their support for the administration’s war on drugs. The high level of support for the campaign against illegal drugs was recorded across all areas and socio-economic groupings. Only two percent are not supportive of the campaign while nine percent were unable to say if they support President Rodrigo Duterte’s so-called drug war or not. Less than one percent were unable to state their positions on the matter.
More Pinoys believe EJKs happen
The same survey revealed that 73 percent of Filipinos believe that extrajudicial killings are taking place in the course of the war on drugs—rising by six points from 67 percent in June. This view was echoed by majorities in all areas and classes. Despite the increase in the percentage of people who believe EJKs are occurring, the figure is insignificant at it falls within the ± six percent margin of error, the pollster said. On the other hand, 20 percent of Filipinos do not believe EJKs are happening in the implementation of the anti-narcotics campaign—a nine-point decline from 29 percent in June. In a separate survey conducted by pollster Social Weather Stations, 90 percent of Filipinos think it is vital that authorities capture drug suspects alive. Only 11 percent do not mind if drug suspects are killed in police operations. Philstar
Now, Simply Shoes’ approach is more customer-friendly, one that appeals to a new generation that is more timeconscious. “Merchandise are easily accessible so customers can easily compare and try more than one pair. Stocks are arranged to be readily available for the fastest sevice time,” which lets customers save time, says a Simply Shoes video ad. Simply Shoes thrives in cities and municipalities that are sometimes far from the regional trading hub. In Tacloban City, for example, shoe shoppers will no longer need to travel to Cebu, where SM has 3 giant malls, Saw said. -Trishia Billones, ABS-CBN News

Secrets of famously pungent durian fruit revealed WASHINGTON - Scientists have answered one of nature’s most pungent questions: what gives the world’s smelliest fruit its distinctive aroma. Scientists in Singapore said on Monday they have mapped the genome of the durian, known throughout Southeast Asia as the “king of fruits” for its unique smell, flavor and formidable spiny appearance. They identified a group of genes responsible for odor compounds called volatile sulfur compounds, and found that these genes become highly activated as the fruit ripens, driving its unusual smell. “The durian smell has been described as a mix of an onion-
like sulfury aroma with notes of sweet fruitiness and savory soup-seasoning. A key component of the durian smell are volatile sulphur compounds, or VSCs, which have been characterized as decaying, onion-like, rotten eggs, sulfury and fried shallots,” said geneticist Bin Tean Teh, deputy director of the National Cancer Center Singapore, co-leader of the study published in the journal Nature Genetics. Unlike other plant species that typically have one or two copies of these genes, this species boasted four copies, demonstrating that VSC production is, as Teh put it, “turbocharged” in durian fruits.
The researchers said this odor may be important to the durian in the wild, helping to attract animals to eat it and disperse its seeds. The scientists sequenced the genome of the Musang King variety of durian, discovering it has about 46,000 genes, nearly double the number in the human genome. They were able to trace the evolution of the fruit back 65 million years, finding an ancient relationship to the cacao tree, whose seeds produce chocolate. “Most of us in Singapore have grown up with the durian, and we are very familiar with it,” said geneticist Patrick Tan, a
professor at Duke-NUS Medical School in Singapore. “However, even within the same family, there are individuals that love the taste, while others have learned to simply tolerate it, especially during durian season. For those who have never experienced
durian before, it can indeed elicit opposing emotions of devotion and revulsion.” — Reuters

Nadine Lustre, #WorldMentalHealthDay MANILA, Philippines — Depression, said the World Health Organization, “will be the most common single cause of disability in both developed and developing countries by 2020.” To mark the commemoration of World Health Mental Day on October 10, celebrities have circulated a black and white picture of a giant semicolon with a hashtag, #KeepGoing. Since a semicolon encourages one to continue reading the sentence, it has been used to symbolize the giving of love and hope to those struggling with mental health issues. #KeepGoing and #WorldMentalHealthDay are now among those top trending on Twitter. The trend, according to music channel Myx, was started by “It’s Showtime” host Nadine Lustre to raise awareness about suicide prevention as her brother reportedly died last Sunday. Nadine is backed and comforted
by boyfriend and recording star James Reid. The campaign comes after recent events involving Joey de Leon, host of the rival noontime show “Eat Bulaga!,” making a remark deemed “insensitive” about depression. De Leon was slammed by other celebrities, including co-host Maine Mendoza, actress Kisses Delavin, and beauty queen Mariel De Leon. Mariel also drew flak on social media for saying “ew” to her and Joey sharing the same surname. Joey has since apologized for the remark, while Mariel has since deleted the Twitter post. Her mom, Sandy Andolong, apologized for her daughter. Actress and rockstar Arci Munoz, who has been bashed in social media for her alleged plastic surgery, posted the semicolon in support of those who might be struggling from depression due to to social media

port. So did actors Julian Trono and Bret Jackson. According to the New York Post, millennials “are more depressed at work than any generation,” and young women “are particularly at risk.” As a result, The New York Times added that suicide “surges to a 30-year high” in the US, backed by a Washington Post report that said, “US suicide rate has risen sharply in the 21st century.” “Optimism is much needed now because there are so many things happening in social media now that make children get depressed. Depression is now rampant globally,” explained Dr. Aurorita Roldan, University of the Philippines College of Home Economics Dean and Professor on family life and child development. In the Philippines, the Department of Health has launched “Hopeline Project” which aims to boost its campaign to prevent cases of suicide in the country. “Hopeline” is a phone-based counseling service available 24/7 to individuals who suffer from crisis situations and depression. The numbers to call are the following: (02) 805-HOPE (4673); 0917-558 HOPE (4673) and 2919. These numbers are toll-free for GLOBE and TM subscribers. By Deni Rose M. Afinidad-Bernardo

Andi Eigenmann clarifies comment about leaving showbiz Andi Eigenmann has denied leaving acting after a conversation she had with an Instagram follower appeared to indicate that she was quitting the industry to focus on being a “full-time mom.” Speaking with CNN Philippines in an article posted Wednesday, the actress clarified she’s not done making films. “I was born into the film industry and acting and filmmaking is something that I’ll always be passionate about,” she said. “It’s just that I feel that I grew out of that whole showbiz stigma, I don’t
want to force myself to be perceived as a person [who] I’m really not. I just want to be known for what I do as an actor and not be defined by who they think I am based on the news.” It was just last week when Eigenmann was thought to have revealed her decision to pack in her career as an actress. She was responding to an Instagram follower who accused her of being a snob when she said: “If I wanted the life I had in the past, I wouldn’t have left showbiz. So go figure.” She added then that she wants to
spend more time with her daughter, Ellie, who is 5. Over the course of her interview with CNN Philippines, Eigenmann expanded on her shunning the “artista” lifestyle and being more selective in the roles she accepts. “Honestly, I made this decision knowing that I don’t know what the future will bring but I know that it’s always going to be better to just believe in myself, to just listen to what I want. Meaningful changes to fast track Canadian citizenship
The former Conservative Government made some significant changes that I argued, at the time, had created barriers for permanent residents. Bill C-6 was intended to address in good part three things that I wanted to share with you. The first big change for me was with respect to how long a person has to be in Canada before he or she is eligible to apply for his or her citizenship. The required time now for a permanent resident to be physically present in Canada before he/she has an opportunity to apply for citizenship is three out of five years. This is a significant change from what was four out of six years previously. This change will give more flexibility to applicants to meet

The second significant change is related to the age range for applicants who must meet language and knowledge requirements for citizenship. This, too, is an important change and it will assist thousands of people every year in getting their citizenship sooner. The actual change narrowed the gap or reduced the number of people who would have to go through testing, from the previous 14 to 64 years to 18 to 54 years. That will allow younger and older applicants who may have greater challenges in meeting knowledge and language requirements to be able

We are reminded in Hebrews 13:5 to “Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith.” This article, I hope will cause us to examine ourselves to find out whether we are heading in the right direction or heading in the wrong direction. One sign that you are headed in the wrong direction spiritually is that you are doing stuff that you know is wrong and you don’t care. For example, the Bible teaches us the Spiritguided Relationships in Ephe-
sians 5:21-6:4: 21Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ. 22Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord. 23For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior.
Living Hope should submit to their husbands in everything. Wives, if you are not submitting to your husbands, you are going the wrong direction! Although some people have distorted Paul’s teaching on submission by giving unlimited authority to husbands, we cannot get around it: The apostle Paul told wives to submit to their husbands.

Out of school, unemployed
pproximately 4.2 million youths are out of school or unemployed and face bleak job prospects, according to data from the Department of Labor and Employment. That’s 21.7 percent of the 19.84 million youths in the country. The DOLE report estimated that 3.14 million of the youths do not have access to education or skills training and employment due to poverty, health problems and lack of required qualifications.

With the new program to provide free higher education, the figures could improve. Whether the free program will provide the required competencies, however, remains to be seen. Critics of the free program have stressed that with the limited funds for public education, the quality of services, already below standard in several institutions, could deteriorate further. Facilities could be overwhelmed by the influx of students, aggravating the quality of services. Critics have stressed that even private schools could suffer from the transfer of their students to free public institutions of higher learning. Employers in several industries have reported difficulties in finding workers with the required competencies and skills to fill thousands of job vacancies. Those with the necessary competencies are often lured by higher paying jobs overseas. In recent years, efforts have been undertaken to encourage students to pursue higher education courses in areas with better employment prospects. The job matching has achieved some success, but more needs to be done. As the DOLE report noted, poverty continues to keep Filipino youths away from school, despite free education from primary to tertiary level. The numerous other expenses for keeping a child in school, such as daily transport fare, food and miscellaneous school fees remain a heavy burden for many households. Inadequate public medical care can also prevent some youths with health problems from pursuing an education. Those 4.2 million youths are among many other Filipinos who need greater inclusion in the fruits of economic growth. Philstar

he fear of a robotic future, when robots, i.e. artificial intelligence, will take over the jobs of people seems to be gripping the world including the Philippines. There are those who predict that robots will take over not only manufacturing jobs, but also service jobs like those in the business process outsourcing industries. In time, the robotic revolution will come. But for now there is a more pressing economic problem confronting the world. Economists have been wondering why the world is going through the weakest recovery since the Second World War. Some developed countries, like Japan, have seen stagnant growth and previous economic tigers like China are showing evidence that its days of rapid economic growth is over. Most economists attribute the last economic crisis to a debt crisis and reduced consumer demand. There are those who believe that it is the rise in global income inequality. All of these reasons are partially correct. There are now an increasing number of experts who have come up with another reason. Ruchir Sharma, in his book The Rise and Fall of Nations: Forces of Change in the Post-Crisis World, believes that there are other factors that have impact on economic growth. He points out that while consumer demand is picking up economic growth is still well below the pre-crisis era. He believes that

he national headlines seem to chorus a report that blared that the ratings of Pres. Rodrigo “Digong” Duterte have slid down and I’m sure our readers must have read the statistics that the Social Weather Station (SWS) caused to publish in our national news. So for the record, “Six in 10 Filipinos or 67 percent of adult Filipinos said they were still satisfied with Pres. Duterte while 19 percent were dissatisfied, resulting in a net satisfaction score of “good” +48. The remaining 14 percent of 1,500 respondents were undecided.” As usual or as expected, SWS did not explain the drop in the satisfaction ratings of the President and yes, they also do not tell you how their questionnaires were formulated. The only plausible explanation to this dip in the President’s popularity is that this happens to all Presidents a year after being in office. By now, SWS must already know that many pundits suspect that their questions could be designed in such a way that it would end up with the desired results the survey company wants to get from the people. More so SWS admits that that this survey was an “uncommissioned poll was conducted
Rapid population growth pays off only if the political leaders create the economic conditions necessary to attract investments and generate jobs experts are looking to the wrong place for explanation. In his book, he says: “My team and I turned our attention from the arguments that primarily focus on demand to those concerning supply, the side of the economy that supplies labor, capital and land, the basic inputs to growth. We found an unexpected culprit. One critical cause of the missing growth was of all things, a shrinking supply of people in the active workforce. The finding was so thoroughly at odds with popular fears about how human jobs are being replaced by the rise of robots and artificial intelligence, it seemed hard at first to accept. How could too few workers be a problem if technology has made them obsolete? But in this case the numbers don’t lie.” The world population is expected to increase from the present 7.3 billion to around 9.7 billion by the year 2050. There is a fear that this represents a population “explosion” that could result in overpopulation compared to food supply. But we need to look more closely at these figures. The population may be growing but there are fewer
babies being born. There are fewer younger people entering working age. A large portion of the increase in population is the result of people living longer. The combination of a smaller working age population and a dramatic increase in the number of older people is a mix that Sharma calls “toxic for economic growth.”He quoted some population figures. Right after World War II, the world annual population growth was two percent. He writes: “Then around 1990 global population growth just fell off the cliff. The population growth rate has since halved to just one percent.” If the population growth rate had stayed at two percent, the world population now would be 8.7 billion and not 7.3 billion. The world would not be talking about the problems of an aging population and the negative impact on economic growth. There are two main causes for the dramatic decline in birth rates. In developed countries, like Western Europe and Japan, the population slowdown was caused by rising prosperity and higher education levels of women, many of whom decided to pursue a career and have fewer children or none at all. In
Elfren S. Cruz
BREAKTHROUGH the poorer, emerging countries, the fall in population growth starting in the 1990s was the delayed result of extremely aggressive birth control policies especially in the two most populous countries in the world – China and India. The one child policy of China has reduced its population and caused a social crisis by causing a shortage of marriageable women because Chinese couples heavily favored male babies. The reduced birth rate has been accompanied by a change in demographics leading to an aging population. Since the 1960s, science and better health care have led to people living longer. Worldwide, the average age of human beings have gone from 50 years to 69 and still rising. Most of the global population growth is, therefore, among people over 50 years old. In fact, the fastest growing segment of the population are people over the age of 80 years. The population of working age people worldwide is actu-
ally shrinking. One dramatic example is Japan where the report is that the sales of adult diapers is higher than the sales of baby diapers. Sharma says that the working population needs to grow at two percent to have the likelihood of an economic boom. There are other ways to increase a nation’s working population aside from increasing birth rates. One obvious way is to encourage immigration. Japan now is finally beginning to accept overseas workers from the Philippines. Another way is to attract more adults like senior citizens and women to enter the labor force. Other countries, like Singapore, Denmark, Chile and Australia are trying to increase fertility rates. There are a small number of countries where the number of working age population is still growing at the rate of two percent or more. This list includes the Philippines, Kenya, Nigeria. Population growth does not automatically result in rapid economic growth. In the past, it has sometimes resulted in famines, high unemployment and civil strife. Rapid population growth is a precondition for fast economic growth, but it does not guarantee fast growth. Rapid population growth pays off only if the political leaders create the economic conditions necessary to attract investments and generate jobs.Philstar

SHOOTING STRAIGHT nationwide from Sept. 23 to 27, using face-to-face interviews of 1,500 adults 18 years old and above.” So there you are, the SWS is up to its old tricks trying to “influence” Filipinos to either continue to support Pres. Duterte or perhaps to drop Pres. Duterte. We know too well that SWS chief Mahar Mangahas was never shy in telling his friends that he always wanted to become kingmaker in controlling the outcome of their surveys. Since this was an uncommissioned survey, I just hope that SWS does not have any ulterior motive by having this survey out at this time. For the record, the last few weeks developments have not been generally favorable to President Rodrigo Duterte, but in my book, his base of support remains solid.
It is unfortunate that many smart people I know still support the Yellow cult as if they owed the Aquino family their lives! How ignorant of these smart people I would like to believe that the 16 million who voted for him in May 2016 are still there. There were just too many issues like the lack of reforms that continue to hound the Duterte Presidency.
friend of the City Mayor. Now whether Mayor Osmeña was trying to get “pogi” points with Pres. Duterte through Sec. Evasco we can’t tell. But certainly that rally was in full support of Pres. Duterte.
Last Saturday, there was a huge rally in Cebu City at the Plaza Independencia by the group “Kilusang Pagbabago’s Lihok Suporta 2” in support of Pres. Duterte. Police sources say that there were only a thousand that joined the rally, while others go as high as 10,000. I was looking at the various photographic posts on Facebook by my friends who uploaded their photos and it is safe to say that at least 5,000 joined that rally, and it was raining that day. Perhaps if it didn’t rain, there could have been more people who could have joined the rally.
No, I didn’t join the rally because it was the baptism of my fifth grandchild and the birthday of my fourth grandchild. But I still support Pres. Duterte first of all, because we elected him to do a job and it is unfortunate that the Yellow cultists are trying their level best to scuttle, stymie or box in the President with so many issues, the majority of which are peddled by that traitor Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV whom many people perceive that his job in the Senate is 90 percent to demolish Pres. Duterte. That the Yellow cult has relied on the non-credibility of Sen. Trillanes is very pathetic to say the least.
Cabinet Secretary Leoncio Evasco graced that rally and it was also attended by his friend, Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña, who until now is perceived to be supportive of the Yellow Cult… but Evasco is a personal
Today the Yellow trolls are attacking Pres. Duterte for setting his sights on Chief Justice Lourdes Sereno and Ombudsman Conchita CarpioMorales. These are the same
people who praised then Pres. Benigno “P-Noy” Aquino III for also setting his sights on former Ombudsman Merceditas Gutierrez, who resigned rather than face a grueling and embarrassing impeachment trial. These same Yellow trolls also sang Hosannas to P-Noy when he had the late Chief Justice Renato Corona impeached in less than an hour in Congress and eventually convicted using false or misleading evidences prepared by the Office of the Ombudsman. Perhaps what the Yellow cultist does not understand even up to now is that their scare tactics that Pres. Duterte would be akin to the late Pres. Ferdinand Marcos and declare himself a dictator is something that the majority of Duterte supporters do not believe. In fact, somebody wrote (unfortunately I forgot who it was) in his Facebook page, “The people would rather support Pres. Duterte even if he turns dictator than see the Yellow cult leaders make a comeback.” This is due to the reality that Pres. Aquino and his supporters dabble in hypocrisy of the highest order! It is unfortunate that many smart people I know still support the Yellow cult as if they owed the Aquino family their lives! How ignorant of these smart people. Philstar

Tech millionaire and adventure journalist Garrett Gee inspires students to follow their passion DALY CITY, CA, September 29, 2017 --- What would one do with a million dollars? Or in this case, $54 million? Tech millionaire and travel journalist Garrett Gee was faced with this very question after he sold his app to Snapchat in 2014. The story behind his mind-blowing success, and what he is now doing with his life were the subject of his chat with students of Jefferson High School in Daly City, California, as part of a joint outreach by ABS-CBN International and Discovering Routes. According to their website, “Jefferson has a reputation for high academic and athletic standards, despite its designation as an underperforming school. The Jefferson Staff encourages students to achieve at their highest potential, developing skills necessary to become life-long learners and productive citizens.”
A Story of Success As a sophomore at Brigham Young University, Garrett developed the app, Scan, with two other co-designers. Shortly after, legions of downloads followed its launch. This led to a TV feature on Shark Tank where he did not get the funding he sought. But as all great stories have their glorious endings, Scan was later acquired by Snapchat. “I feel like it’s one of those classic questions: ‘What would you do with a million dollars?’ It was a really cool and humbling experience to be faced with that question,” Garrett admits to the class. And this was his plan, “Let’s sell everything we own, go super minimalistic, and just travel for some time. Let’s learn about different cultures, about different countries, and try to see what brings other people happiness all around the world.” This minimalist, vagabond-style of exploring the world paved the way for the two of his landmark projects: (1) The Bucket List Family – a social media documentation on Garrett’s family and their travels; and (2) Discovering Routes – an original series from ABS-CBN Global Studios, that follows him and his sister, Miristi, as they return to their ancestral land.
Passion and Hard Work Garrett’s talk highlighted that through all the positive and fun things happening in his life, “it all goes back to the high school days and the college days when I just made up my mind to figure out what’s right for me; that I need to follow my own passion. As long as I work hard at it, develop the skills, and don’t get lazy, I think I can make it happen.” The Intro to Robotics class is the brainchild of Principal Mark Beshirs and teacher Joel Bruxvoort. Ryan Adion, a senior at Jefferson High, was impressed by how the class was captivated by their guest speaker. “People who talk here, they come in suits, he’s just dressed casually so I feel I can relate to him.” Junior student Saul Molina chimed in, “It was pretty cool how he split the money equally,” referring to how Garrett nontraditionally decided on dividing the profit from Snapchat evenly with his co-designers. Beshirs and Bruxvoort are proponents for unconventional teaching methods. “I just see the smiles on their faces and their intent, and the really nice questions they asked. They start to see humanity, to see themselves,” shared Bruxvoort.
On his end, the tech rockstar confided that this was one of his all-time favorite talks. “I spoke at a lot of corporations and universities, but this is cool because when I entered into their classroom, I just saw a lot of people who remind me of myself back in high school, and I saw a lot of potential in them.” The talk was made possible by Daly City Arts and Culture Commissioner Dorie Paniza, with Jefferson High School Principal Mark Beshirs, and ABS-CBN International’s Global Head of Corporate Affairs and Public Relations Nerissa Fernandez. A Beacon of the Filipino American Community Consul General Henry Bensurto, Jr. of the Philippine Consulate in San Francisco made a surprise visit to the class. He presented Garrett with a certificate of appreciation for his philanthropy and goodwill. Bensurto expressed his gratitude to Garrett for having “contributed to raising the profile of the Filipino people, not only in his country but the entire world; and for inspiring the young generation of Filipino Americans to discover their Filipino heritage and connect with the country of origin of their parents.
A Quick Trek to TFC Headquarters Prior to Garrett’s talk at Jefferson High, he visited the Daly City headquarters of ABS-CBN International to film fun digital content for Discovering Routes. Extending his Philippine experience, Garrett’s learning a bit of the language, still eating the food, and connecting with his roots. Keep up with this adventurer and follow his journey. New webisodes on Garrett’s exploits in the beautiful islands of the Philippines go live Mondays and Thursdays on www.DiscoveringRoutes.com. The Discovering Routes TV series can be seen around the globe on Myx TV and Lifestyle Network, and in the Philippines via Lifestyle TV. ABOUT DISCOVERING ROUTES Discovering Routes is an original series by ABS-CBN Global Studios that follows people to their lands of ancestry, in search of epic adventures. The series caters to the wanderlust of those who love to explore and travel and immerse themselves into food, music, culture, and adventure. Follow Discovering Routes on Facebook and Instagram.

Why it’s better to back into a parking slot
O
kay, so arguing about which direction to park your car might sound like nonesensical gearhead nitpicking, but hear us out. While driving nose first into an empty parking slot is tempting, there are a few reasons why you should take the extra seconds to park in reverse. Take note:
1) In some ways, it’s actually easier. The common argument against parking in reverse is that backing up into a narrow space between two cars is more difficult than just driving straight in. But what about when you’re exiting? What’s harder then, reversing into an empty parking slot or keeping an eye out for oncoming cars behind you? With a well-positioned parking space, at least you’re certain that another car won’t suddenly jump in your way.
an eye out for pedestrians with shopping carts is much easier when you’re already facing the way you’re going. As we all know, not everyone keeps their wits about them when they’re walking or driving.
3) Getting out is much simpler. Not all parking lots are made equal. Some are spacious, while others are narrow with nary an inch of room to spare (although there is a building standard for parking spaces). So imagine you drive forward into a tight 2) It’s safer. Speaking of things slot, then come back to find that two suddenly getting in your way, keeping massive SUVs have sandwiched you
on either side. Backing out of that slot would require some precision driving. If you parked facing outwards, though, you can drive off with a lot less fuss. Of course, there are some instances when you should park face-forward: When you need to load stuff into your trunk, when your car or the parking slot’s dimensions leave you with no other option, or when there’s a big sign insisting that you do so. Still, if you ask us, parking in reverse is usually the way to go. Do you agree?

Ely Buendia’s new collaboration with Itchyworms is a wonder
MANILA -- The new single from Ely Buendia and the Itchyworms, “Lutang” and “Pariwara,” is a must-have not only for fans of the respective artists but also for fans of good music. Both Buendia and Itchyworms have had a knack for melody to go with clever lines, insightful and personal lyrics that stick to one’s heart and mind. When Buendia collaborated with the late Francis Magalona on “In Love and War,” the result was magic. Just like when Magalona infused a rock edge to his rap when he involved his band, Hardware Syndrome. Now, the Itchyworms have been one of the most tuneful bands with a dash of Weezer to come out this new millennium. It was obvious when Itchyworms first came out, Buendia’s old outfit, the Eraserheads – and the Beatles -- were a major influence. So when the stars align – like Pearl Jam and Neil Young’s “Mirror Ball” or David Bowie and Queen on “Under Pressure” to name a few of a good many -- great stuff happens. “Pariwara” was released in 2016 and I love the song with its Asin-like intro after which its infectious beat with its skiffle-like style that harks back to ‘60s music and harmony. And as simple as its chorus of “ngunit hindi tayo ‘di tayo titiklop” is, it’s beautiful and it’s going to be a classic as a mantra or anthem. And who would have thought that lightning would strike twice with both collaborating once more on “Lutang” despite the more somber mood? It has that ‘60s feel that strikes a deep chord within me as a fan of that era’s music. And I’ll dare say that these two songs are some of the best stuff from Buendia who is one of the most gifted songwriters from any generations of Filipino recording artists.

Vickar Automotive Group Supports Child Cancer Awareness VICKAR Automotive Group gave a $26,000 cheque to Abby Stewart and the Canadian Cancer Society last month. For the month of September, the Vickar Automotive Group donated proceeds from each sale of new and pre-owned cars to help raise money for Child Cancer Awareness.
Now both songs appear back-to-back on the limited edition 7-inch single released on white vinyl that was pressed in Japan. It comes in a handsome looking two-color jacket with its nifty cover of the performers. This was first offered during the first Record Store Day celebration in the Philippines as a pre-order – another cool move. Now hopefully, next time any new stuff by anyone should be made available on that day too in order to mark how special that day is for music fans. “Lutang/Pariwara” is a must-have not only for the music lover and collector but also because of the daringness of Buendia’s OffShore Music -- from Apartel to Ely Buendia and the Itchyworms and soon to come, the Late Isabel -- that is challenging the pop sensibilities of the Filipino audience (in the way that Toti Dalmacion’s Terno Recordings has done for some time now). Clearly, Buendia, Jugs Jugueta and company make good music. And that begs for a third collab and a proper album. That’s the charm. -Rick Olivares
The donation is part of the company’s corporate social responsibility in its continued support to the community. Vickar Automotive Group congratulates all team members for their hard work and dedication and thanks its great customers who helped raise the money!

Steven Seagal likes Duterte & Pinoy martial arts
MANILA, Philippines — Some celebrities may have shied away from the Philippines because of news about extrajudicial killings and the Marawi attack. But not actor, producer, director, martial artist and musician Steven Seagal. The 65-year-old Seagal is on his nth visit in the country to shoot the new action TV series General Commander, where he plays the title role of Jake Alexander, a former CIA (Central Intelligence Agency) operative who fights crime without the constraints and the rules of the CIA. Seagal will be here for at least nine months to shoot the series in Vigan (where his friend, former Ilocos Sur governor Chavit Singson hails from) and other tourist
spots in the country. “I don’t feel like this is a dangerous place,” he told media in a press conference at The Peninsula Manila Hotel. “I think it’s a place that’s up and coming with the new leadership.” Seagal is referring to Pres. Rodrigo Duterte, whom the Hollywood celebrity is “a big fan” of. In fact, he thinks Duterte “has been instrumental in making the Philippines a safer place.” Seagal is also a big fan of the Filipino people because he finds them “gentle, kind, musical, fun, humble and (armed with) a great sense of humor.” This is the reason why he keeps coming back to the country, even if he’s been around in so many places around the world. Seagal even knows the word salamat (he ended the presscon with this word) and about the Bataan Death March, which he’d love to play a role in should a new version of that milestone
in Philippine history be filmed in the country. But his immediate concern is shooting scenes for General Commander and finding two Filipino actors who can play the role of agents in the series. “At least 90 percent of the production (team) will consist of Filipinos. They’re a good workforce,” Seagal revealed. He added that the labor cost is lower. Another thing going for the Philippines is its location, which Seagal and other American film lovers find “a little bit exotic” and therefore different. Then, there’s the Filipino martial arts, like the arnis and others, which Seagal would like to include in General Commander. “That’s a really good idea!” he exclaimed when asked if he plans to use Filipino martial arts in his projects. Seagal may not be Filipino. But he’s promoting the Philippines every step of the way. Philstar

Is Xander Ford inspired by Daniel Ford? Besides inventor Henry Ford, fashion designer Tom Ford, actor Harrison Ford with a current blockbuster “Blade Runner 2049” and Xander Ford, who has become a social media darling for his transformation via plastic surgery, another Ford has long been captivating Filipinos worldwide. This Ford, however, is no longer new to Philippine showbiz. In one of his Instagram accounts, actor and recording artist Daniel Padilla has used “Daniel Ford” as name. Daniel’s full name is Daniel John Ford Padilla. The Instagram account, @supremo_dp, has over a million followers. Daniel’s latest post, captioned “Love buzz,” shows him and love team partner and “La Luna Sangre” costar Kathryn Bernardo at the Star Magic Ball last week. The photo became one of the those
that trended on Twitter today. Xander’s real name, meanwhile, is Marlou Arizala. Why did Marlou choose the name Xander Ford? Many people have been asking that question. Now, other questions have popped up: Was Marlou inspired by Daniel? Over the weekend, Enrique Gil posed in a photo with Xander Ford captioned “Xander Grande III and Xander Ford.” Xander was Gil’s character’s name in the hit television series “Forevermore,” which became one of his claims to fame in 2014. Xander Ford as Marlou Arizala has long admitted that he is looking up to Gil. Kevin Durant:
Giannis Antetokounmpo could be the best player ever Asked which active player would you start a franchise with today, NBA general managers had Giannis Antetokounmpo among the top selections. Earlier this summer Kobe Bryant issued out a challenge to the Milwaukee Bucks forward to win 2017-18 Kia MVP. That happened not too long after Kevin Durant said “it’s guaranteed” last season’s Most Improved Player will be an MVP one day. The Warriors All-Star went a few steps further on Friday during a Q-andA session on his YouTube channel, claiming Antetokounmpo could end up being the greatest player to ever step on the court. “The Greek Freak, I think, is a force. I’ve never seen anything like him,” Durant said. “His ceiling is probably — he could end up being the best player to ever play if he really wanted to. That’s pretty scary to think about.” Durant added: “He’s by far my most favorite player to watch.” Antetokounmpo, 22, is coming off the best campaign of his young career, posting 22.9 points, 8.8 rebounds, 5.4 assists, 1.9 blocks and 1.6 steals, which were career highs in every category. He became just the fifth player in league history (and the first since LeBron James in 2008-09) to lead his team in points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks last season.NBA.com staff reports
What’s next for Conor McGregor: Diaz, Ferguson or WrestleMania? Even though he hasn’t fought in the UFC in nearly a year, the biggest story in MMA surrounds the future of Conor McGregor. With his dream bout against Floyd Mayweather in his rearview mirror, McGregor’s next act is under a microscope. The Irishman is certainly not short of options but it appears that there are two that stand out when it comes to his return to the Octagon. The one that has lingered for quite some time is a third fight with Nate Diaz, but UFC president
Dana White has squashed the notion that a McGregor-Diaz fight is in the works. But it may not be exactly what McGregor has in mind. According to the UFC lightweight champion’s striking coach Owen Roddy, a Ferguson fight is welcome but a third meeting with Diaz is the big money fight. “I honestly think that people would rather – like, I think people would rather see Conor vs. Diaz,” Roddy said on Submission Radio. “I just think it’s a more exciting fight for everybody.”
Ferguson has certainly earned the right to face McGregor with a 10-fight winning streak that dates back to 2013. His thrilling third round submission of Kevin Lee punctuated his claim as the best fighter in the division. However, Roddy doesn’t think Ferguson presents the same challenge that Diaz does. Dismissing Ferguson as the easier fight will certainly draw the ire of the interim champion but it will be up to the UFC to decide which of the two fighters
McGregor faces next. In the meanwhile, it appears that Mystic Mac may once again be looking for opportunities outside of the UFC as a report surfaced on UK outlet The Sun that suggests that McGregor may be entertaining an offer from the WWE to appear at WrestleMania 34 next April.Andreas Hale

A Testimonial for Dr. Robert Stitt’s Abilities as a Chiropractor By Gemma D. Dalayoan
IT was music to the ears of the St. Edward’s Church Choir members when they learned that their conductress, Lourdes Hermano, got cured of her vertigo. They hadn’t had a lot of practices and singing for months due to her illness ; thus, they as well as the church goers, terribly missed her. They had sung almost every Sunday at 12:30 p.m. to accompany the mass being said at this hour. The church was always filled up by many churchgoers with them thinking that they felt like in heaven listening to the angelic voices of the choir members. Lourdes is a retired music teacher of Brooklands School where she had taught for 37 years before retiring in 2010. She then devoted her time to serving God through her conducting the choir. Her continuous attendance, including attending practices and conducting the choir, was hampered when she started feeling a spinning sensation, nausea, and loss of balance that sometimes, she would sit on the steps of the
elevated place for choir members and would not be able to finish her task of conducting. ”It was a scary feeling! I felt useless even at home,” she said. Convinced by her close friend, Amy Almazor, she attended a Natural Wellness Presentation by Dr. Robert Stitt at Smitty’s Restaurant in which an attendee could bring 5 guests, all with free dinner. After listening to the presentation, Lourdes made a determined decision to let Dr. Stitt help her with her vertigo and other body pain she was suffering from. In the presentation, she saw a lot of testimonials and met people who had been cured of almost all kinds of diseases, such as arthritis, heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, and pain in body parts caused by injuries due to car accidents and other mishaps. She decided to start going to the clinic on January, 2017. It was on February, 2017 when she amazingly found out that her vertigo vanished. Elated, she profusely thanked her friend, Amy and most especially, Dr. Robert Stitt of the Natural Wellness Chiropractic Centre on 104-912 Portage Avenue for his health presentations, adjustment, herbal medications, and other treatments that he had administered to her. She also learned that Dr. Stitt also offers free presentations on a weekday at his clinic on proper nutrition, exercise, and how to beat other kinds of diseases. He is also willing to give free presentation to organizations or groups if organized ahead of time. As a patient cured by Dr. Stitt, Lourdes has convinced others to go to him for treatments. Although she still goes with her friend Amy to Dr. Stitt’s clinic for her
other pains, she is very hopeful that Dr. Stitt would be able to cure her as he had cured not only hundreds but thousands of patients in his 30 years as a chiropractor. She also knows that Dr. Stitt’s reviews as a chiropractor is almost excellent. Aside from his skills and abilities, he is also known to many of his patients, new and old, as a chiropractor that could also be trusted for his honesty, kindness, courtesy and knowledge. Therefore, it would not be a wonder if he becomes the most popular chiropractor in Winnipeg because of the testimonials given by his patients, one of them, is Lourdes Hermano.

Malacañang had announced a P5 million bounty for the “neutralization” of each of the Maute brothers, and P10 million for Hapilon. A separate $5 million bounty was also offered for the arrest of Hapilon, an Abu Sayyaf leader who was said to be the anointed ISIS leader in Southeast Asia. The Marawi clashes supposedly started when troops tried to serve an arrest warrant on Hapilon. Since clashes between state forces and the Maute group erupted about 5 months ago, about 753 terrorists have been killed. At least 47 civilians and 155 soldiers also died in the conflict. Thousands were forced to evacuate. Lorenzana said the death of the two terrorists signals the end of Marawi conflict but operations may continue to arrest other Maute members. The siege of the Islamic City began May this year when Maute, with brother Abdullah, hoisted black flags of the Islamic State group and set Dansalan College on fire. In June, the brothers’ parents- father Cayamora and mother Farhana- were arrested in separate police operations. Cayamora died in August. The siege has reduced the once-bustling city of Marawi into ruins, with many buildings and even mosques completely destroyed and riddled with bullets and shrapnel. ABS-
she will be allowed to count it as a half day, which could be used towards meeting physical presence requirement for citizenship. However, there is a cap – the maximum number of days that can be counted or credited as part of the three-year requirement cannot total more than 365 days. My understanding is that the changes took effect on October 11, 2017 and would only apply to applications filed after that date. The bottom line is that the changes mentioned are not new. The former Government made similar changes but they ultimately made things more difficult for landed immigrants to acquire their citizenship. At the time, I was very critical in arguing that there was zero evidence that showed the original changes would benefit Canada as a whole. We should be encouraging all landed immigrants to consider taking the path to Canadian citizenship. Canadian citizenship is the greatest gift that we can offer those from around the world who want to make Canada their home.

not popular is no reason to discard it. One way to disarm the antagonism that the external culture may inject into the marriage relationship is to remember that the wife gets to submit and the husband gets to die. According to the Bible, the man is the spiritual head of the family, and his wife should acknowledge his leadership. But real spiritual leadership involves loving service (a form of dying). Just as Christ served the disciples, even to the point of washing their feet, so the husband is to serve his wife. A wise and Christ-honouring husband will not take advantage of his leadership role, and a wise and Christ-honouring wife will not try to undermine her husband’s leadership. Either approach causes disunity and friction in marriage! 25Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her 26to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, 27and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. 28In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. 29After all, no one ever hated his own body, but he feeds and cares for it, just as Christ does the church— 30for we are members of his body. Husbands, if you are not loving your wives unconditionally, you are going the wrong direction! 1Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2”Honor your father and mother”—which is the first commandment with a promise— 3”that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.” Children, if you don’t obey your parents in the Lord, you are going the wrong direction! Young people, there is a difference between obeying and honouring. To obey means to do
as one is told; to honour means to respect and love. Children are not commanded to disobey God in obeying their parents. Adult children are not asked to be subservient to domineering parents. Children are to obey while under their parents’ care, but the responsibility to honour parents is for life. If our faith in Jesus Christ is real, it will usually prove itself in our relationships at home with those who know us best. Children and parents have a responsibility to each other. Children should honour their parents even if the parents are demanding and unfair. Parents should care gently for their children, even if the children are disobedient and unpleasant. Ideally, of course, Christian parents and Christian children will relate to each other with thoughtfulness and love. This will happen if both parents and children put the others’ interests above their own-that is, if they submit to one another. 4Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord. The purpose of parental discipline is to help children grow, not to exasperate and provoke them to anger or discouragement. Parenting is not easy-it takes lot of patience to raise children in a loving, Christ-honouring manner. But frustration and anger should not be causes for discipline. Instead, parents should act in love, treating their children as Jesus treats the people he loves. This is vital to children’s development and to their understanding of what Christ is like. If after reading this article you realized that you are doing stuff that you know is wrong and you don’t care, you are heading the wrong direction, make a U-turn right away to avoid disaster!
