WATERCOLOUR STUDIES Whilst collecting my initial research into patterns found within nature I was inspired by the subtle colour schemes that seemed inherent to so many aspects of nature, from seamless sunsets to autumn leaves. As my response to the brief has a predominant focus on nature, I want to recreate the subtle colour schemes I initially identified. To help me achieve the desired effect, I decided to illustrate the mushroom studies using watercolour paints, as they mix effortlessly on the page and allow colours to bleed and mix together.

PASTEL COLOURS Once the watercolour mushroom studies had been completed, the individual illustrations were scanned in and arranged in Photoshop to form a single repeating tile ready for submission. With the tile completed I started to experiment with different colour applications, all of which were very muted and took on a range of pastel tones. For a wallpaper, pastel colours are an effective choice as they are not garish, demanding attention only when nessicary.
