FOREWORD.

II

Our Year Book is largely a picture book.

We have been

happy in the compilation of this volume XI because we have made our own pictures.

Under the direction of our genial, en-

thusiastic teacher and friend, Mr. W. P. Cottam, a Kodak Club was form d which has been instrumental in collecting a goodly number of views which we hope will be interesting to our students, patrons and friends. We are sorry that we could not get a good picture of that horrible monster, the "F lu ", who broke so seriously into our y ar"s work, stealin g from us fifteen of the most precious weeks of the year, and depriving us of Winter"s seasonable delights.

I I~ g

~

Notwithstanding hi s ravages, however, we modestly publish our little book with the hope that it will be a reminder in the years lo come of a few bright spots in the "Flu fraugt" year of 1918-19.

MOUNT JORDAN Above the low, base, struggling mass, Above the evil walk of life, Above the lust for wealth and power, Abov~ contention, sin, and strife. Shrowded with mists of flaky clouds, Or covered with crystal snow, Catching the gleam of the morning sun, And reflecting its evening glow. Throned in celestial glory, An inspiration to the soul Of the upward climb to heaven, Where peace and rest control. Heav' n grant that we in our weak way, May keep our thoughts as high, Our ideals and ambitions Always mounting to the sky. -Ora Whitemore, '20.

Things that are greater than lessons from books, Things that through life will live; We learn to treat friends as w 'd have them treat us, We learn to forget and forgive. We I arn to b cheerful and pleasant and kind, To keep going although we are blue, To finish a task when we have it begun, To always be honest and true. To throw back our shoulders and lift up our heatls, 'Though things have be n hard for a while; To tackle each task, no matter how great, With "I can, and I will," and a smile. What greater reward can w ask for our toils, Than to hav Conscience say "Well done"?

THE SCHOOL YEAR.

Th('l'e is no n ed of my saying that this year at Jordan has been a decided success. All th sludf'nts know it and tho e who know anything about the school know thal Jordan would not pprmit it to both rwis . 'I'h y ar began with a promise of bing the b st Jordan had vel' seen. The students ame with a d sir to work, and with good school spirit. But with such a wonj'prful building and such a faculty as w hav, success was inevitable. Many recent im· ]H'ove>m nls hav(> also bee>n madp for the b it rment of the school and as Ct. benefit to 111(' stud 'nts. '['he third floor has been com pi ted giving more room. Her a beautiful large study hall and library have been fix d up. Th old study hall on th second floor h;u:! b('('n l' mod I d and made into an office for th Board of Education and for the 8up<'l'int('ndpnL Onp of th Hchool rooms on th main floor has been mad into a cozy, com I'ortablp 1'(' sl room for th girls, filled with easy chairs and couches and a table for studying. All th furnilure in the room was made by the Woodwork Department. The s 'hool has bpen suppli('cl with show r baths, much to the joy of the students. New electric machin 'ry has b en installed in the Woodwork D partment, which i a great accomplishm nl and an aid to th bOYfl. So amid Ih s

n w improv m nts and with th many advantages aIr ady njoyed Everything was gliding smoothly along wh 'n, Nlrly in 0 tober, influ nza sudd nly app ar d and soon spread over all the eounll'Y. Thp school was los d and for fifte n long we ks not allowed to reopen. But wh n it did th students ame back with doubl d termination to make good. Every morning we have m t in ass mbly for about fift en minutes. This has been to aid us in "gptling tog th r." The lim has b n sp nt in song, readings, sp aking and a pray<,l' to God, thanking Him for th€' bl ssings njoy d and asking Him for help in our work. 'rhe>n with a happi r, more cont nled fling we hav all gone to our classes. U1<' stud('nls ('nle>r d h('artily into th ir work.
