"The generations of men and women pass. Years after we parents and teachers have disappeared from the earth, the children, in their maturity, enter into the full ness of life and carry on our service."-Charles Beard The manner in which youth will carry on, however, must necessarily rest upon their beliefs and ideals. Two ideologies today are struggling for supremacy through out the world more fiercely than at any time in the world's hi story. One ideology holds that force is the best method whereby governments can render the greatest service to their people. It also believes that people in a modern world are not capable of self-government. This ideology seems at present to have the upper hand in the conflict throughout Europe and the Far East. The other ideology, to which youth and adults of America firmly adhere, is that through education people can and will govern themselves and be most prosperous and happy. They believe, further, in the dignity and worth of everyone and in the principle that through responsibility and freedom of individual intelligence, governments can be established and maintained which will render the greatest good to the greatest number. This latter ideology is demonstrated in the way of life pursued in America. As long as youth and adults adhere to these ideals, although the horizon now looks dark, they need have no fear as to their final victory. -S upt. C. N. Jensen.

The attempt to meet adequately the actual needs of students in preparation for life's work involves a change in the attitudes of the students and the parents, also a change in the offerings by courses as a means of accomplishing the training. The faculty will present a report based on the Youth Commission's recommendations reorganizing our program to meet students' needs with trained teachers and adequate equipment. The changed motives and attitudes which we hope to make on the part of the students and the parents will come as the proposed plan gets under way. Attitudes result from participation. New attitudes will result from the different types of work planned, because of the closer harmony between the work done and the needs this work is intended to meet. A wide departure from the college preparatory courses now used will likely result as new work progresses and the needs are met or as required changes of courses to meet the requirements are set up. The parents' attitudes will be changed, we hope, as they see the students more readily and effectively participating in real work with greater enthusiasm and with better results of learning. The success of our program depends on the ability and willingness of the administration to provide adequate equipment and sufficient trained teachers. The goal aimed at is motivation on the part of the students which will lead to learning activities acco anied by satisfaction in the thing done and preparation thereby for future work as a member of society, together with good citizenship as a concomitant learning.

"On Our Way" was a dramatization of one of the major reports of the Educational Policies Commission. It was more than an entertainment; it was also an object lesson. This pageant was presented in four acts, entitled, "The Objectives of SelfRealization," "The Objectives of Human Relationships," "The Objectives of Economic Efficiency," and "The Objectives of Civic Responsibility." The leading roles were ably portrayed by Robert L. Pixton as Granddad and Venna Jensen as Sally.

ATHLETICS The Beetdiggers again dominated the major sports of Region 2, as well as of the state, and consequently, they take their place beside the Yanks of '39, Joe Louis, Don Budge, and the Long Island Blackbirds, who are pretty good, too, in their own backyards. The 'Diggers proved again, much to the embarrassment of their worthy opponents, that an abundance of willing, high-grade raw material, plus the top coaching staff of the state, plus the whole-hearted support of a student body that has within it the same fighting spirit that manifests itself in all the teams that represent the Maroon-and-Grey, is a well-nigh unbeatable combination.

Football Summary Boasting but one regular to build around, the Beetdiggers' football team, 1940 edition, left even their most ardent fan slightly dizzy after watching Jordan fight their way to their second state title in as many years-a feat that has seen no equal_in this state's grid campaign in more than a decade. After getting tripped by Butte and stomped on by Carbon, the maroon and grey nudged, then pushed, then shoved, and finally crashed their way to their sixth district crown in seven years. But all was not clear yet, so Jordan's pint-sized human dynamos dug in with a second-half drive that would have left Demosthenes speechless, and sent Ogden's Bengals home with hanging heads and tails between their legs, wondering about the justice of it all. This set the stage for a return battle with their pre-season conquerors from Carbon. The Beetdiggers, quick of foot and nimble of wit, brandished their beet knives and soon had their plodding brontosaurus foes cut down to their own size, proving their superiority beyond a question of a doubt. Now the coveted championship cup rests proudly in Jordan's already flush trophy case.

SUMMARY After a period of basketball drought, Jordan's ruthless Beetdiggers treated their fans to a Region 2 championship by virtue of an impressive pre-season string of 12 victories and no defeats and a league record of nine wins against one loss, and then went on to harvest a fourth position in the state. Th e Sandy lads, led by Captain Reed Grant, who was an unanimous choice for All -State hon ors, suffered a defeat at the hands of Davis, a game in which three regulars saw no action, and a game which brought to light the mettle of our reserves. W e also dropped one to a white-hot crew from Box Elder. Statistics proved that the Maroon and Grey was the best offensive team in the state's annual casaba joust and many believe that the champi ons hip game was played by the teams who finished fourth and seventh.
