In addition to his work in uniform, Sgt. Racine has also become well known for calling local hockey games, writing a weekly column in the Seaway News, and helping numerous charities, among other things. Parking lots…how many times have you felt yourself getting stressed in a parking lot?
These large open areas with lines, arrows and Signage are designed to make it convenient for us to park so we can then enjoy our favourite stores to shop. Not always a pleasant experience, often we find ourselves getting uptight and stressed as we navigate through the parking lot. I want to share what happened the other day, which I can bet has happened to some of you at some point and time in a parking lot. I made my way to the mall on my lunch hour, a busy time of day, not to mention people are under a time pressure as they may also be on lunch. Luck was on my side, as I pulled around the corner, I saw a man getting in his car, with no one waiting behind me I put on my signal and waited for him to leave what was going to be the perfect parking spot. That was until I saw a lady around the other corner waiting to pull in the same row I was in. I thought to myself, she is going to pull in to this spot, even though she made eye contact with me, I just felt it. Sure enough, as the gentleman pulled out of the spot and I sat in my car with my left signal light on, waiting for him to pull out of the way to turn in, she quickly pulled into the spot, this time no eye contact made. Has this ever happened to you?
My first reaction, well I can’t say….but I sure was not a happy camper, I was so taken back that someone could be so rude and inconsiderate. My next thought was “Keep Calm and Carry On”. I told myself to let it go, it didn’t matter, I had time to park somewhere else, and the walk, especially now, would do me good. As I made my way around the parking lot the woman walked in front of my vehicle like nothing had happened, again I started having a conversation with myself to stay calm. As I made my way through the mall, I remembered I wanted to look in the book store for a gift, what happened next was incredible….I was looking for a specific book, as I eyed the shelf for the book I wanted, I came across this little red book, the title “Keep Calm and Carry On”, full of quotes. I just about fell over, talk about synchronicity. The exact words I had spoken to myself were right there in front of me on a book cover. With Christmas coming and parking lots getting busier, I hope you will remember this story, and “Stay Calm and Carry On”, when you feel you have been wronged in the parking lot. It truly is the best way to handle the situation, I can honestly say, this felt much better than how I would have handled the situation in the past.

Keep Calm and Carry On
I opened the cupboard and saw the note, well it was just a scribble of two words --Santa Claus--. Why did I write that because the parade is over. It certainly was a very good parade. I think we got it right this year for floats and lots of youth. Those parade marshals have their work cut for them when putting a parade together. There were not the large gaps between each one, so the parade flowed. lots of music, just a few more good bands that play music and not just beat the drums, and especially a real good one at the front to start off the parade and continue to play even when they stop. The parade was I think very good, and I'm sure all will look forward to next year in hopes that there will be more music and yes I have remembered why the word Santa Claus was written.
It was for those goodies that come along later in December that we all enjoy so much. Here is a much loved yummy recipe that takes little preparation and some cooking and for all those Mums and Dads who have children who can't eat wheat, this is a treat for them. It is call ed Georgian Bay Scotish Pudding. You may wonder why the big name. Well I found it in Georgian Bay from a lady with scots heritage, and she had no name for it, so with her help we came up with this name. Hope you like it. GEORGIAN BAY SCOTISH PUDDING 1 Large cup of rolled oats 8oz. or there abouts 1 cup seeded raisins Muscat or if you can't get those Lexia will do. 1 cup buttermilk 1/3 cup of dark raisins 2 Tblsps. of Butter I use butter because it tastes better 1/3 tsp. salt, 1 tsp. baking soda, 1 tblsp. of cut in half glace or maricheno cherries, I prefer the red ones. Mix sugar, oatmeal and butter together, Add the fruit. Mix buttermilk, salt, and baking soda together. Then add to First mixture, and put into a buttered pudding bowl (or deep narrow bowl) Steam for (2) two hours covered with Aluminum foil tied with string. Put in pot or steaming kettle on wire rack or ring from canning jar, add water till an inch and half (1 1/2) inches from top of bowl. Steam covered with lid on pot/kettle. Now you can make whatever sauce you want. Some like to eat it without any sauce, and others like a white sauce, and others like a carmel sauce. I prefer a light carmel sauce with cream. Oh dear! I cannot find that recipe, well here is one sort of------about 3 tblsp. butter, cup brown sugar, 3/4 cup water, 1 tblsp. cornstarch and 1/8 tsp. salt. Add heavy cream at the end. Melt butter, add brown sugar, water, salt in pot on stove. Mix the cornstarch in a little water, then transfer to mixture in pot on stove. Cook on medium heat till smooth and thick, you must watch it and stir once in while. Add the cream after sauce is removed from stove. Now just add what you like to taste. I usually add about half a cup, for I do not like it to sweet. Well I hope you like it. Wishing you all a very good Christmas and a happy New Year, and for everyone else have a very happy holiday.
My only regret, I didn’t buy that little red book, but I can tell you it is on my Christmas list. Until next time, happy parking!! The ultimate goal is to try and make sure that less fortunate children have a gift this holiday season. Occupy Cornwall? Tim Archer will protest corporate greed and government inaction at the Cornwall Bandshell. Armed with a sharpie marker and a large piece of cardboard he has written down grievances against greed and government inaction on issues such as poverty and homelessness. He has set up tents and he has occupied Cornwall's largest public park, a park that is mostly deserted during this frigid time of year. The geese outnumber the protesters in the park about a few hundred to one. But kudos to Tim, because I wouldn't want to be sleeping outside, especially on a cold November's night! However some homeless people in Canada have to sleep outside and endure chilly temperatures when emergency shelters are at capacity. Homelessness is a serious issue that needs to be addressed by all levels of government.

INTERVIEW with Thom Racine ... Cover Story
Seeker Chick Mai-Liis: Hi there Thom, to start with could you tell us a bit about yourself . Thom Racine: I have been a police officer with the Cornwall Force/Community Police Service for 30 years, I am an active member of the community working with many organizations and events; namely, St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, Heart & Stoke, Hospice, MS Society and the Bishop Cupsupporting St. Vincent de Paul to name a few. I have been a Sergeant four teen years, I also teach police foundations at St. Lawrence college part time, I have a weekly column in the Seaway News, I do a segment on the morning show at Corus twice a week called 'Thom's Wide World of Sports', I do the play by play for the Colts on Cogeco and I am the coach for the Morrisburg Lions Junior B hockey club. Seeker Chick Mai-Liis: What influenced you to write this book? Thom Racine: Curiosity and an emotional connection, I began searching for a picture of John Robert Davey, early on it was obvious, it was not going to be easy. The family that I did find provided clues and neat little stories passed on through generations. JRD's son, Patrick Francis, was born just 6 days before his father was killed, as such Patrick Francis became my inspiration, to find out what happened to this little boy who grew up without a father. Seeker Chick Mai-Liis: When did you start writing this book and how long did it take to complete? Thom Racine: April 2010- what began as a search for local police history became derailed by the Davey story and my need to tell it as a small, but tragic part of the history of Cornwall....1 year and 8 months later I was ready to print.
First Annual Health, Holistic & Lifestyle Expo
Seeker Chick Mai-Liis: What exactly is the book about? Thom Racine: My story recounts the murder of Constable John Robert Davey and then explores what happened to his family after his death. Concentrating on his three sons and three of his brothers, I found some wonderful stories and amazing coincidences.
Seeker Chick Mai-Liis: Did you have local help laying the book out and printing it? I sure did, writer, editor and genealogist Lily Worrall put the book together, she was an inspiration and as I recognize in the book, "it meant a lot to me that the story intrigued her as much as it did me." Lily slowed me down many times and often pushed me to clarify the exciting yet often confusing genealogy. My Budget was simply an empty bottom line. Writing was all I cared about, so when the time came, I had to explore on line printing and found a company that produced quality results. Seeker Chick Mai-Liis: What other writing projects have you undertaken and what is next in your writing career? Thom Racine: I have been writing locally for 5 years. My column is sports related for the most part, but I do like to branch off into general interest pieces and love to research war stories. My Broomball series three years ago was well received and I will begin the police history project in January. On a personal side, I have prepared to write my Dad's biography which we chronicle his beginnings at St. Lawrence High Schooling the fifties and follow his 17 year CFL career. Seeker Chick Mai-Liis: I believe you are having a book launch - what are the details? LUNCH AND LAUNCH is set for Tuesday December 6th at Casa Paolo Restaurante from 11am-2pm and December 8th at the Library from 6:30-8:00pm Currently there is a web site being created and more information can be found on my John Robert Davey facebook page.

Getting Into The Christmas Spirit I’ll admit it, I am not in the Christmas spirit. I want to be, but for some reason, I just don’t feel it yet. Here it is, the last week of November, just over a month until Christmas, and I do not feel that wonderful tingle of knowing it is just around the corner. I hope it changes soon, because it is a feeling that I miss. Usually by now, I have the tree up, I have deliberately listened to Christmas music and I have a rough idea of what I am getting everyone on my list. Maybe it is because the weather has been unseasonably warm. Today is actually the first day where the snow is glistening on the ground, I can slowly see it coming down and still…nothing! Perhaps it’s because I am behind at home. I have not had a weekend to get things organized and so the mood hasn’t struck me, maybe it is all the changes that have happened this year, could be because there are no little ones at home; hopefully by December I will start feeling festive. I do plan to decorate this weekend, or at least take those baby steps to get in the spirit. I have started gradually buying gifts for my loved ones, but even that process is a little off. I am one of those people who tries to find that ideal gift, I listen for the non verbal and verbal clues mentioned months before. I have surprised people with gifts they never expected, sometimes recruit a friend to help and have even been known to leave gifts in plain sight, assuring those around me that they are for someone else. If you get a gift from me, it is from the heart and well thought out, but so far this year, I am lacking inspiration. I am someone who loves holiday themed movies. If I don’t own them on DVD, then I’ll watch them on TV or record them with my DVR. Yes, I watch them over again. I get weepy when the person realizes it is not the gifts that matter, it is the feeling in their heart that does, it is making someone else smile, it is realizing that people matter most. Maybe I need to have one of those Christmas magic moments.
My all time favourite Christmas movie is “It’s A Wonderful Life.” I watch it every year, and it makes me cry, it makes me smile and be grateful for being alive. A second favourite came out in the 90’s and it is “The Family Man”, it falls in the category of what-if, and has a great message. I also enjoy the comical ones such as ”Christmas Vacation,” “Home Alone” and even some of the lesser known ones such as “His & Her Christmas”. They get to the heart of you which is really what it is all about. You noticed I used the word Christmas, because that is what it is to me, that may not be politically correct anymore, but I still put out my crèche each year and still attend mass like I do every Sunday. No matter what your beliefs are, this is supposed to be a magical time. I’ve spoken to several friends that are also not feeling as festive so far. SoI need to do something about this. I will try to turn this around. I’ll haul out the boxes, go through them and start that slow process of decorating. The second the boxes come out, the cats will be scurrying to see what is in them, and after we adorn the tree, they will make their best efforts to climb the tree and sleep in it. I have pictures from last year, which is why we secure the tree to ensure they do not make it topple over. I may actually send Christmas cards this year. Sure we do the online greetings, but haven’t went the traditional way in a while, and I have the artist in mind to create these beautiful cards I envision. It is also a wonderful time of year to donate to those in need, and give of your time. It helps warm your heart and feed your soul. This Christmas, I will try not to think about what is different or what was lost, but enjoy what is, and those that are in my life. I have 30+ days to make a change and start getting into the spirit and keep reminding myself and those around me, that hey, it is a wonderful life! Follow Kris Ward’s blog at

Brad's first book signing - Thank You! The line up formed early at the first Demongelic book signing for 17 year old local author & illustrator Bradley Pennell. Fantasy Realm owner Randy Sauve and his family hosted the event on Nov. 19 from 10am5pm. The beaming author was astounded at the turn out. In total over 140 books were sold at the book release/launch . He personalized each book and many photos were taken of the young author and artist. He enjoyed the surreal experience of meeting people, talking about the book and his characters. It was a mix of ages, some who met Brad through the Cornwall Farmers' Market and Summer Company, classmates and teachers, and others who read the media release, articles or heard about the signing and met Brad for the first time. Brad was in awe to hear that many copied will be tucked under trees as Christmas gifts. Social media lit up with comments and messages of congratulations and feedback from readers. Overall it was a fantastic day. We live in a very supportive community and this was a memorable time for a gifted youth. Fantasy Realm is carrying the first printing editions of Demongelic and the next book signing is Saturday December 3rd at The Grind from 10am-4pm. Lately I’ve started something new in my life. I’ve started to be OPEN to new opportunities and new adventures that present themselves to me. I’ve come to realize that when you open up your mind, heart and soul and let YOUrself engage in new possibilities, that great things CAN happen. When we start realizing that there are no ‘accidents’, that when we shift our energy towards positive thoughts and actions, we are actually attracting certain happenings. The trick is, to be OPEN to them, to work with them and let them fuel your ambitions and passions.
Unfortunately, most people will have what we call ‘blockers’ on, which will enable them to fully understand and appreciate these opportunities that are arising. Someone very wise recently told me that there are 2 core emotions, “Fear” and “Love”. These emotions fuel every decision that we’ve made or will make. If you think about it, it really does make sense, that some people can BE open and some CANNOT. If we base our actions and energy with fear, we will never potentially fully open ourselves, but if we can allow ourselves to be open, having love in mind, we have the possibility of opening ourselves up to great opportunities as love, is one of the purist emotions. Whether it be in be in our professional, personal or love life, we all have choices to make, choices that we hope will better our lives in one way or another. We hope that these choices will open a new gateway in our lives, but what we tend to forget and what we almost never ask ourselves is “Am I letting myself be open”, if we cannot fully commit to these changes brought on by these choices, the good that is entirely possible, might not happen, due to fear and/or negativity that surround us in our everyday lives.

Fear VS Love.
JennFit HEALTHY TIP: EAT SMART: WITH BROWN RICE Rice goes through a variety of processes before it reaches the consumer. After harvesting, the husk of the rice is removed by milling process which gives you the brown rice. The process that produces brown rice removes only the outermost layer, the hull, of the rice kernel and is the least damaging to its nutritional value. The complete milling and polishing that converts brown rice into white rice destroys 67% of the vitamin B3, 80% of the Vitamin B1, 90% of the Vitamin B6, half of the Manganese, half of the Phosphorus, 60% of the Iron, and all of the dietary fiber and essential fatty acids.
INGREDIENTS: 1 cup organic brown rice 2? cups bottled spring water 1 cup organic baby spinach 2 tablespoons organic olive oil 1 teaspoon minced organic garlic 1/2 cup shredded Parmesan cheese sea salt and fresh ground pepper for taste
DIRECTIONS: Begin by combining the brown rice and the water in a saucepan and bringing the mixture to a boil. Cover the saucepan with a lid, reduce the heat and let simmer for 45 minutes, or until fully cooked. Transfer the cooked rice to a serving bowl. Set aside. Chop the spinach in a food processor. Add two tablespoons of olive oil to a pan set over low heat. Add the garlic and saute in the oil for 5 minutes until garlic is golden brown. Add the spinach to the garlic-infused olive oil and saute for an additional 5 minutes. Transfer the spinach mixture to the bowl with the cooked rice, folding the ingredients into each other. While the mixture is still hot, add Parmesan cheese, sea salt and fresh ground pepper. Serve. Enjoy!

SEEKING THE ARTS . SEEKING THE ARTS
Award-winning singer, songwriter and storyteller Michael Mitchell of Victoria, British Columbia visited the students and staff at East Front Public School last Friday to perform his onehour “Canada Is For Kids” concert. The performance featured fun songs and stories about what defines us as Canadians. Mitchell’s performance included history and geography lessons, as well as some unique facts about our country. Prior to his visit, Mitchell provided the school with a song list and lyrics of some of the songs he would be performing. Students and staff practiced the songs so that they could sing along with Mitchell. Some of Mitchell’s original songs included Canada in my Pocket, Maple Sugar Time, We’re all Looking for a Dinosaur, and Little Trees. Students also sang some old favourites including This Land is Your Landand the Log Driver’s Waltz. Mitchell has performed at more than 4,700 schools across the country. “I think it’s really cool,” said grade 4 student Marcus Moquin of the concert. “It supports Canada, and he’s a very good singer. “The songs help you learn,” he added. “I wish my mom could be here because it’s so awesome and she’d definitely like it,” said Starleena Leduc, grade 3. “Michael gets really excited. I learned some things I didn’t know. He makes us excited about Canada.”

ART SEEKERS by Sandra Taylor Hedges
SEEKING THE ARTS . SEEKING THE ARTS The Art of Giving the Gift of Art There isn’t an Artist out there that at sometime or another is asked to donate some of their work or talent for a good cause. It is a tough dilemma because you would like to give but often the value of your work would exceed your usual comfort zone for giving. To make it even more difficult, if you do it once the next thing you know there is a line up of worthy causes at your door wanting the same.
In September 2009 the Iohahi:io campus offered a 2 year Fine Arts Diploma course to the local community that completed in May of 2011 with 15 graduates. Among the teaching staff was local Artist Sandra Taylor Hedges (Studio One Cat Squared) who taught several of the practical painting and drawing courses. At the end of the 1st semester three of the students were chosen for a unique project of creating a series of murals telling the Mohawk story of Creation they were Tammy King, Natasha Thompson and Inez Cook Patterson. The murals were to be painted in the entrance way of the school incorporating itself into the already existing sky light structure.
I and many other artists I know struggle long and hard with this one. Many of those asking for the donation see only the cost of the materials it takes to create a piece of art or the couple of hours of your time if you are a performance artist and not that this is a part of not only who you are but how you are defined in your community and in the world. As a result you may feel compelled to donate only to see your work devalued by a low bid at an auction or your performance under appreciated by the mood of the viewing audience.
The seven panels each tell a portion of the Mohawk story of Creation which is built around the central figure of Sky Woman. When the panels were complete the Program Co-ordinator Sheila Lafrance spoke aloud to Sandra Taylor Hedges that she wished they could incorporate a sculpture of Sky Woman into the murals especially with the sky light above.
What I have done is found a few criteria by which I look at donating or giving away my Art (even to family and friends) which you may also find useful. I start by asking a couple of questions
"She is naked with the strawberry and tobacco plants in her hands and tangled in her hair" said Sandra Taylor Hedges, "these plants are sacred and an important part of the story, she would not be Sky Woman without them".
Would they buy it anyway? Have they paid before for your art by purchasing it or buying tickets to a performance and is there a chance they will again? The person asking for a donation are they a previous customer of yours or follower? If someone who purchased one or more of my paintings asked me to donate I would give it more consideration than someone who asks me just out of the blue. Will the donation be given the respect its due? For me a silent auction or not there has to be a minimum value set for the work that is perhaps 50% of the actual value or the Art and Artist are not truly appreciated by the bidders Are they willing to negotiate a split deal? When art is set up as a fund raiser I feel that the artist should be compensated for some portion of the final price anyone willing to look at this will have a better chance of artists participating. Is there an opportunity for self promotion? If by helping the cause out they provide you with opportunity to promote yourself in a way that adds value to your donation it may be worth considering. If you are donating and then having to buy a ticket to even get into the event, well what does that say about how they value you and what you do. And finally Are they worthy? I will be the first one lining up to donate to an organization or a cause that I know is worthy of this and more. There must be a feeling of humbleness attached to giving and gratitude because some things are worth more than money.
It was then that Sandra decided to make Sheila's wish come true and create a sculpture of Sky woman as the students had visualized her in the mural images. (Sandra’s Sky Woman is below)
The sculpture is approximately 26 inches long and is made from a combination of metal mesh with a paper mache clay overlay. The tobacco and strawberry leaves are made from acrylic skins to give them a translucent quality when looking at them from below the suspended form.
I will leave you with this thought: Give well, Give when you can, Give to the worthy and you will never regret it.

The sculpture was presented as a gift to IOHAHI:IO at the Graduation Celebration last May and installed on November 18, 2011. "I wanted to give the school back something for all that they give to the students, the community and for what they gave me by letting me be part of it all for a little while" , said Sandra " it's not much but it is what I can do"

SEEKING THE ARTS . SEEKING THE ARTS Music to my...body! You got to love it when you hear a favourite song on the radio. You can’t help but turn up the volume and start bopping along. At first it might be some slight humming as you try to remember the words or at least the chorus. Before you know it you become just as loud as the singer or louder, and no doubt, there is a groove in your step. What just happened? Your body responded to sound. Yup, you just danced. What is it to dance? Can you draw a line between grooving and dancing? I think not. Everything dances. Your voice is also an integral part of your body. So in reaction to that song you not only danced with your body, but with your voice. Or you could say your body sang and your voice danced. Living life is a work of art whether we acknowledge it consciously or not.
Experience A Medieval Christmas with CHORUS NOVUS CHORUS NOVUS’s upcoming concert will provide audiences with a welcome pause in the hectic preChristmas rush. The contemplative sounds of medieval choral music will allow the audience to reflect on the real meaning of Christmas as they watch performances of old English nativity plays. Choir director Brian Hubelit hopes that the audience will experience the story of Christ's birth the way people did six or seven hundred years ago, on the steps of their local cathedral. CHORUS NOVUS is dedicating this Christmas concert to the late Ray Target, past president and longtime choir member.
Now I want to get back to that song you heard on the radio. What does it take to hear, to listen? One perceives sound by detecting vibrations through the ear. However, when we dance we allow our body to listen to the music and respond with movement. Music is a well organized construction of several sounds put together to create a mood, a feeling, a message, a story and much more… We all have favourite songs and they can vary in genre. For me a few favourites would be Everest by Ani Difranco, Back in Black by ACDC and Stormy Weather by anyone! These songs are all quite different and offer a unique sound experience for me. I now have memories and relationships with each song. Sometimes I just can’t help but sing along.(my apologies to those nearby) But, I find when I don’t sing along and really listen I discover something new. Perhaps it’s another instrument, or a lyric or a harmony. I challenge you to listen to a favourite song or two. Make sure your eyes are closed, your spine is vertical and your body is quiet and still. Just listen. Stay open and receive the sounds. You will be delightfully surprised and will have grown a new appreciation for that song. To go even further, listen again to the same song and let your body respond to the music. Even if it is just one instrument you respond to with one body part. Don’t think about it. Just allow movement to happen. We yearn to be moved every day. Allow yourself to move by listening with the whole body today. Notice the silence in between the sounds, take time to pause and find stillness in the beautiful chaotic noise that is our lives.
A reception will be held after the concert. Sunday December 4th, 3:00 p.m. at Trinity Anglican Church in Cornwall. Tickets, $15 (free for those 16 yrs and under), available at Seaway Valley Tourism, from choir members and at the door. SEEKING THE ARTS . SEEKING THE ARTS
Re-Programming Your Brain It is rare these days to find something truly inspiring on television which is why the ABC interview with Gabrielle Giffords and her husband, astronaut and shuttle commander Mark Kelly, totally captivated me when it aired November 13th. For those of you who don’t know her, Giffords is the congresswoman who was shot in the head outside a shopping center in Tucson, Arizona one year ago. The injury should have killed her but it did not. The injury should have rendered her helpless, perhaps even brain dead, but it did not. Her indomitable spirit and her remarkable relationship with her husband have steadily led her through a course of recovery which is truly miraculous. Neuroplasticity Giffords journey is an example of what neurologists and rehabilitation professionals refer to as ‘neuroplasticity’ - the remarkable ability of your brain to recover from an injury and find other ways to perform the tasks it did prior to the injury. In other words, the brain re-programs its self and forms new pathways.
You might be questioning the relevance this has for you. No one wants to experience the need to re-program by attracting the type of devastating injury Gabrielle Giffords sustained and yet all of us have aspects of our thinking which can benefit from re-programming. The example I most often refer to in the ‘ME FIRST’ work has to do with self-talk, re-programming the caustic voice of your self-critic into a voice which is uplifting, your self-coach. From Critic to CoachWhere do you start? Begin by listening in on the tape that is running in your head. I refer to this as your elevator music – you are often only vaguely aware that it is playing until one day you become annoyed with it. Don’t wait to become annoyed; begin to notice what you are saying to yourself while you are alone, while you are driving home from work, what you are saying to your friends about your day and what you accomplished. Notice what you focus on. Do you only remember the things that didn’t get done on your ‘to do’ list, the hiccups in your day, or perhaps where you believe you ‘messed up’. Can you even recall the highlights of your day, where you made a difference, the many things you accomplished? The critic brings you to the negative side of the equation. Here is where your re-programming begins. Tell him or her that they are not exactly accurate, perhaps even outdated in their view of you. Be clear with your critic that you would rather hear more about the upside of who you are. Every time the critic steps in, smile and say, “unh-unh!’ and shift the conversation to your coach’s message. Your default system is your critic; you have to form a new neural pathway for your coach. Every time you reprogram the brain learns and eventually the critic’s voice begins to fade and you hear your coach’s voice instead. Make a Choice for YOU!Gabrielle Giffords has had to fight her way back from the brink of extinction, learning to talk, think, feel, walk, and function again. She has been and continues to re-program her brain, teaching her brain new pathways every day. Your job is the same, just easier. First recognize that living with a loud and vocal self-critic does not serve you very well – it simply lowers your self-esteem and diminishes your personal power. You don’t want to play this way in the world, as the world needs you to play differently and to be powerful beyond measure. Second, give yourself a great gift and begin re-programming your critic into a voice that builds you up, a voice that believes in you and respects you for who you are. You deserve it and you are the only person who can truly give yourself this gift. Re-programming begins with ‘ME FIRST’, then you attract respect from others. I encourage you to check out Gabrielle Giffords story and to be inspired by her. Then make a choice for YOU and begin your own re-programming process. Make the shift from critic to coach. Start today as time is ‘a wastin’!
Until next time…Betty

Spiritual Seedlings
Jeremiah 29:11 New International Version (NIV) 11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” God spoke these words to the nation of Israel before they were to go into the Babylon captivity. Our God is a God of plans for his people. Some plans are for now and some are for a future time. But in all of God’s plans require a step of faith and trust. Early in 2011, God began leading the Cornwall Wesleyan Church toward the purchase of a new church facility at 780 Sydney St. Although we had thought about moving for several years, in our human eyes we were not prepared, we did not have all of our ducks lined up, in other words we couldn’t do it without God,s help and although we claim to rely on Him, sometimes it is easier said than done. Well early in 2011, God began to open up some amazing doors. Even to those of us who were the closest to the action were in awe of what he was doing, to watch the timing of events that were beyond our control, unfold. It was simply God blessing our congregation, but at the same time we had to be willing to step-out in faith. As a result we have now seen, and continue to see, God do what we thought was impossible. It has been amazing to continue to watch God bring people together every week with the necessary gifts and talents to accomplish the renovations that are required to transform this former school into a place of ministry and worship.
Our first public service will be on December 4th at 10:30am., Cornwall Wesleyan Church 780 Sydney St. We are excited to be able to glorify our Lord and Savour Jesus Christ in our newly renovated sanctuary. We have also been reminded that God has not blessed us just to give us a new place of worship. He has additional plans to minister to the people of Cornwall but each step will require additional faith. In other words the building was not the prize, The real prize is the people of Cornwall that God will bless though this new facility. Cornwall Wesleyan Church P.Larry Blaikie

Professionally Chilling With ... Boomerang, those young who are occupying their folks' homes at an age when blinding teenage rage has dissipated and parents have become visible again.
Gary Friedma
n
DON'T LEAVE HOME WITHOUT YOUR BOOMERANG There were those who used to laugh at the Italians' penchant for living at home beyond their teens or early twenties. But given the current economic situation, nobody is laughing any longer. The boomerang trend in North America - young people who leave home only to return - is growing as it proves ever harder for young people to find jobs. Some of these young people are now sleeping in the streets as part of the Occupy Movement. They're angry and they've gotten a lot of attention. But maybe the real revolution in the making lies with Generation
I don't think the jobs are coming back in a hurry and that is why Family can be a dampener of hardship and frustration during difficult times. Family has traditionally filled this role in Italy and reflects something very positive in that nation; a hidden solidarity based on a dense weave in its social tapestry. An old joke asks why it's obvious that Jesus Christ was an Italian. Answer: Because he lived at home until he was 30, always hung out with the same 12 dudes, believed his mother was a virgin, and his mother thought he was God. Now that more of our youth are living at home until they are 30, should we expect the miracles to commence? I welcome your comments at gary.friedman@cornwallgroove.ca
