Feel The Excitement ... 43 Years of Racing at the
FIVE QUESTIONS with school teacher and comedian Neil Carriere. Interview by Jason Setnyk
The Cornwall Motor Speedway is Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec’s number 1 spectator sport. Sunday night racing in Cornwall attracts upwards of 5,000 fans from across Eastern Ontario, Western Quebec and Northern New York!! Families have been making the speedway a tradition since 1970 when it first opened under the name of Power Dam Speedway because of it’s location. Ron Morin (above left photo credit: www.rickattheraces.com) began his journey with the Cornwall Speedway driving Mini and Street stock. A decade later, he decided to take on the challenge of business ownership AND racing simultaneously! Ron hung up his keys when he turned 60 after 50 Feature wins, and decided to devote his full attention to The Cornwall Motor Speedway...making it the best of the best in DIRT Motor Sport! Hard work and tenacity paid off for Ron when he was inducted into the Cornwall Sports Hall of Fame, Dirt Motorsports Hall of Fame, South Stormont Hall of Fame and received the Jacques Richard Sports Award. Racing isn’t just for men in the family. Carol Morin-Flanagan - above right - (One of Ron’s four daughters) has been the speedway’s General Manager and Ron’s right hand “man” for the past 20 years. You may think that they only go in on Sundays and open the gates but there is so much more that goes on behind the scenes. Carol works all year long preparing for the season! Ron’s granddaughter Jenay Morin, who won the Athlete of the Year at SLC this year, is the first female flag person at the track! The rest of the family either work at the speedway or are avid race fans themselves and you’ll find them every week in the stands watching the races! Continued on page 5

MP GUY LAUZON ON CYBER BULLYING Dear Seeker, My very first appointment last week was a real eye opener for me. It was with a young teacher, accompanied by her mother. This compassionate, very articulate young woman, Jocelyn, proceeded to tell me about a number of her students who were being cyberbullied. These teenage girls are being slandered on a website originating in Latvia. Anyone, anywhere in the world, could access the site and spread lies and rumours about anyone else anonymously. Quite frankly I was shocked at the information she provided to me about this website. That’s the problem with the current state of cyberspace; it is like the Wild West 150 years ago. Anything goes. Jocelyn recounted how a number of her young female students’ reputations are being severely damaged and possibly ruined by unscrupulous, malicious individuals posting lies and false rumours on the site. It is having a tremendous effect on these young vulnerable victims. Many of them are suffering anxiety, depression, and worse. She explained that social media spreads like wildfire. Instantly all these lies are spread locally and within minutes of being posted, they are circulated to thousands via twitter and facebook. I am happy that our Government is looking for ways to hold cyberbullies accountable for their actions. Following the tragic suicide of two Canadian teenagers due to cyberbullying, federal, provincial and territorial ministers of justice and public safety directed senior officials to identify potential gaps in the Criminal Code with regards to cyberbullying. The Prime Minister has been clear on this issue. “There is a point where bullying goes beyond youth misbehaving and becomes criminal activity. While I cannot comment on specific cases, I can say that we need to put a stop to cyberbullying.” It is very frustrating that people anonymously use the internet to do immoral and unlawful things they would otherwise not do. We must address this ongoing scourge. In the meantime we need to offer as much assistance to our young people as possible. I believe we need to protect our children from online exploitation. I commend Jocelyn for championing this cause. I also applaud the Prime Minister’s wife, Laureen, for promoting the website www.NeedHelpNow.ca. This website is useful for parents and children alike to help protect ourselves and our loved ones from harm and to help us navigate the use of new technologies properly. I strongly suggest everyone visit this very helpful and informative site. -Guy Lauzon (Member of Parliament for Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry)

LETTER: WILLIAMSBURG LIBRARY CLOSURE WOULD HURT COMMUNITY Dear Seeker, It is of my utmost beliefs that the removal of the Williamsburg Library will not benefit the town or county in any way. As an avid reader I understand what books do for a person. They educate. I may be missing something but there is not anything one can do better for his/herself than to learn. Growing up in the area I know first-handed that there is not much to do, especially not in Williamsburg. So what are we trying to do? Well, beneficially we should be trying to improve Williamsburg’s standard of living therefore attracting new citizens who would like to reside. If we continue taking such resources away, like the library, what will we have left to attract newcomers? Think about it. Now think about the citizens already currently residing in Williamsburg. They don’t have much around. What they do have is one of the world’s best forms of entertainment: books. They don’t get old. Kids love books. I know for a fact that there are still children living in Williamsburg because two of my nieces are. They use the library. The thought of its removal pains them, which pains me. I believe if anyone in the power of keeping the library has a heart/brain, it would pain them as well. Knowledge is a key, don’t lose it. Alex Gravelle
key players injured, but that is a part of the reality of playing an intense more professional sport – injuries happen! This shows that the team needs and grit more depth in their lineup to be a serious contender. They also need more discipline. Losing composure loses games. in How will the Habs improve? Thankfully Montreal will have more cap space t, 2013-2014 not having to pay that white elephant of a Scott Gomez contrac so they will have some potential room to improve. Despite how the season the ended for them, hopefully this was a positive learning experience in growth and development of Montreal’s younger players. However there is one more question mark, and his name is Carey Price. When . the team in front of him is playing great hockey, he does well enough However Price has not stolen too many games for Montreal, and in clutch al situations in the playoffs he seems to fold under pressure. The Montre go to Canadiens are going to need better goaltending, especially if they want . seasons ing upcom in deep into the playoffs next In conclusion, the Habs have a team good enough to make the playoffs ever they if address must they that issues serious some are season, but there wish to be a cup contender.

SEEKER SNIPPETS - SEEKER SNIPPETS Music Misfits N' Mischief
On May 4th 2013, the “Music Misfits N’ Mischief” event by 3Angels Power Film Production INC shook the walls of the Banquet Hall at Murphy’s Inn with success. Local artists such as; the Rundowns, Unknown Devil, Big S, CMO and the HEATLEY Band gathered to give Cornwall great performances. They truly knew well how to rock Canada’s Soul with their music. The attendance was sufficient enough, volunteers did a great job, and everyone left with a new happy memory including Josh Welsh who is one of Franceska Finger NailZ cast members. The people were amazed by the raffle gift baskets, and silent auction. The audience personally voted, and cheered for the dance contest. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prize winners claimed their gift bags as a reward with open arms, and a big smile. 3Angels Power made Music Misfits N’ Mischief event to help boost the funds of Franceska Finger NailZ, a local horror movie that will be set into motion by June 1st 2013. Our film company will release a highlight reel online as a newsflash to share the news with the community. At the same time, the event also was an open door for a few lucky local artists to shine through a new web series called “Canada Rock My Soul” which will go straight to DVD, and will be released later online. One of our main intentions was to film clips of the volunteered performances to use in our upcoming webisodes. Each episode will represent the artist creatively, and give him/her the proper exposure, and promotion needed. It will introduce his/her career in a form of a brief biography that will be considered a stepping stone or a foundation for their musical background and experience. “Canada Rock My Soul” would be considered as a resume and a video card to ID their creative talent and endless passion for music. 3Angels Power as a film production company believes that building a better tomorrow starts with encouraging local projects and local artists today. So, stay tuned for more electrifying news coming your way soon.
PASSION for FASHION by Marlene Baker
3Angels Power Film Production INC
Hi Everyone, Marlene back for another week of fashion tips and more ideas to help you look and feel your very Best! I hope ALL of you Mothers out there had a pleasant and fun kind of Mother's Day with your families. I want to talk about summer attire this week. That's if “Mother Nature” plays along with us and gives us the "summer weather" we all want and need. Dresses are so much FUN to have as part of your wardrobe. I really love dresses because they are so easy and simple to throw on over your underthings. Slip on a pair of sandals and out the door you go ready for the day or evening. Summer dresses are nice to have as you can wear them over a bathing suit, go to the beach or a pool, slip off the dress and voila, you're ready to jump in. Then afterwards, you slip it back on and off you go again, looking just fine and dandy. Other summer clothes such as shorts, skirts and tops are available at all the Thrift stores here in Cornwall. This way you can "Mix & Match" several pairs of shorts and skirts along with many different tops at a
fraction of the cost, compared to retail stores. As well, you are helping out these wonderful organizations such as the Agape, the Salvation Army and Value Village. We help them to help others in and around the community who are less fortunate than ourselves. Sandals (of all heel heights) flip flops, and pumps are always the summer shoe favorites. They come in all colours of the rainbow to match everything you have in your closet or wardrobe. Why not add a "BOLD" colour to a simple coloured dress? For example, if you were going to wear a blue dress, add a "Red" pair of pumps or sandals and a matching purse. That "Splash" of colour stands out and makes your outfit a "WOW" factor. Or, if you are a less adventurous kind of woman, then go with a less BOLD colour, but wear a complimenting or lighter shade of whatever colour you are wearing. I would like to add that our Fabulous "Make Over Contest" is going to be continuing until June 15th. I am still wanting you ladies out there to send in your "Fashion No-No's" to us here at the Seeker. Simply take a photo of yourself or a family member or a friend wearing something "Not so Fashion Savvy." Giving YOU or THEM a CHANCE to WIN a COMPLETE MAKEOVER. Until next week Ladies, Keep Smiling because Life is too short not to!!! Marlene Baker @ www.fashionography.ca or @ www.fashion4passion.ca Photo credit: John Lister of Fashionography

SEEKERS PEOPLE IN THE “LOUPE”
FIVE QUESTIONS school teacher and comedian Neil Carriere Interview by Jason Setnyk. Submitted Photo. Jason Setnyk: Hi Neil, before we begin this
interview, would you please tell our readers a bit about who you are.
Neil Carriere: Hi Jason. So, first of all thanks
to the Seeker news for putting out such a great newspaper each week and thanks for asking me for an interview. I'm humbled that anyone would care about my opinion. As for who I am, I'm just an average guy. I've lived in Cornwall for most of my life and I'm a school teacher at St Joseph's as well you know where I have been teaching for 15 years now. My hobbies include theatre, reading and writing as well as being active at the Cornwall Wesleyan church. I also dabble in stand up comedy and magic and I've MC'd weddings, boat cruises and award dinners.
1 - You are a drama teacher. Students learn in the classroom, but teachers also learn though their experiences. What is the greatest lesson you learned as a teacher in the classroom?
First question had to be a tough one huh? It is a tough question because it is so hard to pin down one thing over the 15 years that I have been teaching. I guess the answer would be that I've learned that every year is different and every student is different. It is one of the things that I love about teaching. Knowing that I am never going to be bored because things keep changing and evolving and I've had to learn to adapt to different students, different classes, different learning styles and teaching styles. Fortunately, I am a creative person and I've learned to adapt quickly.
2 - You are a youth group leader at your Church. What made you decide to become more active, and why is it important to have programs geared towards young people?
I started going to the Wesleyan church with my family a few years ago and I was happy with how friendly everyone is there and how welcomed we were and the church became a
second family to me. When the former head of the youth group needed to take time off because of health reasons different people kept telling me I'd be perfect for the job. I really felt called to do it so I did. I have found my own faith renewed as a result and I've really devoted a lot of time to studying scripture to understand questions I've had and trying to understand my own beliefs. This, in turn, has helped me be a better youth leader. We are a small group right now. We meet at the Wesleyan Church at 780 Sydney Street at 6:30 - 8:30 next to Farmboy (shameless plug haha). Each week we get together and we have fun. There are so many ways that youth can spend their time that is not productive or can even be detrimental that I think it is great that we have a place where we can play some board games or some pool and can chat. And yes, we talk about our faith! I know for some people that is a bad thing and I think that Christians can sometimes get a bad rap in most media outlets but I think it is great that young people have a place that is not home, or school or at a regular church service where they can ask questions and explore their ideas and share their own experiences. We have a lot of great youth groups in Cornwall and I highly recommend that teens find one that fits and get involved.
3 - You were once very active in the theatre community, tell us about your experiences doing that.
Yes I have been very involved in local theatre doing shows with local groups like Vagbond, Seaway Valley Theatre company and Cow Patti Theatre. I've also helped run shows at our school and I even do some skits for my church. As to the question on if I'll ever go back...well I've never really left! It is true I am not as active right now because doing a play, for anyone who has done one knows, it is a huge commitment of time and energy; both of which I am often in short supply of (chuckles). Sometimes a person needs to rest and recharge and that is what I am doing now. I still keep the theatre bug alive by doing some smaller projects and people keep asking me to help out with things but I won't get involved if I don't think I can put in 100%.
4 - What is your philosophy on comedy, what is funny? What made you decide to become a stand up comedian?
There is such a thing as philosophy on comedy? Ha ha. My philosophy is, that I love to laugh. I love to have fun. I've had some rough times in life and I find that humour is indeed the best medicine if you forgive the cliche. I don't think humour needs to be mean
Chamber Warns of Possible Scam
May 13, 2013 – The Cornwall Chamber is advising area consumers of a possible scam involving the International Award Payment Center. It comes in the form of a ‘cheque’ facsimile made out to the homeowner for $15,000. “The package comes with a letter stating that the recipient has not responded and is in jeopardy of losing out on the prize”, reports Executive Manager, Lezlie Strasser. “The letter asks that the recipient complete a series of instructions and send them along with $20.00 to a North Kansas, Missouri address.” Strasser goes on to say that recipients may receive an additional notification from a so-called ‘lottery official’ that demands you pay for made-up fees and taxes, in cash, and only through Western Union or moneygram.
THE SEEKER (May 17- pg. 8)
or degrading either. When I first started I saw a lot of other comics who did that and I thought that was how I needed to be to succeed, but the opposite has been true. I've had more people contact me because I do a clean show and there are not many amateur comics around who do that. Some comics are very successful because they are good at making bawdy jokes but I learned that I am not comfortable in that style and I've been told again and again to do what makes me comfortable. I try to find the funny in things that people identify with and usually I take shots at myself because a lot of people can say, "yeah I do that too" and laugh about it. Most people like my jokes because they can relate. I try not to offend or upset and if I do, I am quick to apologize and alter my style.
5 - What was your reaction to Prime Minister Steven Harper's criticism of Justin Trudeau being a drama teacher? Why should a drama teacher be Prime Minister of Canada?
What is my reaction to Stephan Harper? I've tried not to react to anything that Harper has to say about anyone. His negative politics has really turned me off and from what I'm hearing it has turned a lot of other voters off but I guess that remains to be seen at the next election. If I decide not to vote for Trudeau, it will not be because he is a former drama teacher or because of anything else that Harper says. I think that there are a few things that can be gained by being a drama teacher. I would like to say that to be a good teacher in any subject but especially in dramatic arts, creativity is very important. As I mentioned, a good teacher has to learn to adjust and I would like to think that a good leader would need those traits as well. He certainly has charisma on camera and I think that would be a valuable skill that he learned as a' drama teacher. I would like to think that being a teacher also gave him some practical experience in dealing with young people, who are after all the future of this country and would hope that those lessons would help him to make decisions that don't disregard them. I'm going to be watching the next election very carefully and I will be paying attention to what Justin Trudeau will have to say.
Thank you Neil Carriere for this interview. See Neil Carriere perform his talented comedy routine at the Seeker Awards Dinner June 28th at the Cornwall Golf and Country Club. Tickets on sale now!
The Chamber has investigated the matter and has concluded it appears to be a scam. It advises consumers not to follow up on the letter nor to send any money. “Consumers should always be wary of offers like these that come in the mail, especially when they asks for money be sent first in order to claim the prize. Legitimate firms do not operate in such a manner.”

The basic stuff it feeds back is; am I cold or hot; am I on solid ground or soft; am I wet or dry but there is more information being sent to us much more that for the most part we have lost the ability to understand. Your Chi will tell you if something is wrong with the physical body’s health and it will also tell you if the person you are talking to is a friend or an enemy. By learning to direct the Chi energy we are capable of defending ourselves or feeling the pain that someone else is experiencing as well as the Love. Recently while taking Tai Chi with my instructor and fellow Artist Kevin Jude MacDonald I am reminded about the importance of not only developing the ability to direct the flow of Chi Energy for exercise or self defense but in all things including our Art. In Tai Chi the goal is to have the body move and stretch in harmony as a continuous series of movement that flow one into the other. All is in harmony; pushing and pulling the hands, legs and feet together as one in order for the Chi Energy to flow throughout your body. So what does this mean to the Artist? We must look at ways to connect our hands, eyes and entire body to become one in the production of our Art. By doing this we allow the higher energy of the Universe to flow through us; a conduit as it were between our Creator and our final product.
If you read my column you already know that I believe that Artistic Souls are special, we are wired a little differently than the average person you may meet. This difference is the way we are able to connect with the Universal Energy and allow it to transform into dance, song, stories and pictures. When we understand how to manage that energy we can do amazing things, when we can’t we are in trouble. I don’t want to dwell on the negative side of this problem instead let’s look at how to direct the Chi Energy that is flowing through you in order to feel whole and productive.
1. Exercise your Body – whether it’s Tai Chi, Yoga or taking a long run find a non stressful way to exercise your body that will give you a chance to connect with yourself. 2. Feed your Body – Get rid of extra fat by developing good eating habits. Eat fresh fruit and vegetables and stay away from processed packaged food. Lots of water and green tea are better than too much soft drinks and coffee. Don’t merely go on a diet instead create a positive attitude toward food and what it’s purpose is which is to run a very important biological machine that you just happen to live in. 3. Meditate – take time each day to connect with the Universe through Prayer, Transcendental Meditation or just quiet time smelling the roses. Take 20 minutes a day to calm your mind, it will be time well spent. 4. Practice – Do what you do every day in some fashion or another and spend time practicing with other like minded Creative Souls too. These four things will help you to connect your mind and body to let the Creative Chi flow through you and out into the world. PATSY CLINE TRIBUTE AT THE PORT THEATRE A SMASHING SUCCESS WITH OPENING ACT ROXANNE DELAGE
For those who have a taste for country, their thirst was quenched Friday night at the Patsy Cline Tribute show and opening for this show was our very own Roxanne Delage with her band..
There was a full house at the Port Theatre, and the audience was brought to its feet in ovation for hit classics like ‘I Fall to Pieces’ ‘Crazy’ and ‘She’s Got You,’ and ‘Leavin’ on Your Mind’.
There is something magical about live music at the Port Theatre, and there was magic in the air last night. The acoustics were great, the audience was gleeful and engaged, and The Port Theatre has become the perfect stage to host concerts.

Spring Fling Art Exposition May 26th in Cornwall
The arts and culture scene in Cornwall has been buzzing with lots of exciting events and exhibitions, including the upcoming Spring Fling! So what is Spring Fling Art Exposition and Sale really all about?
“This idea came to me early spring, so impressed by the quality of art this area has to offer but realizing that many of the artist live in a rural area or don’t necessarily have a convenient location to showcase their work. I have been very fortunate to have the valued assistance of both Dan Burgess and Carolyn Helen Davis in creating this event, without their knowledge and participation Spring Fling certainly would not happen. Quite simply, this is an opportunity for local (SD&G) artists to get together and display and offer their work for sale to our the community”, says organizer Linda Riel.
Spring Fling 2013 will take place at the Ramada Hotel and Conference Center, Cornwall on May 26th, 10:00-5:00pm. It will include the talents of Marcel Quesnel, Beverly Leroux, Tracey Croxall-Davies, Frank Loria, Erynn Blackadder Doherty, Cheryl Beasley, Renate Nadi Wesley, Julia Rita Theriault, Anne Wotherspoon, Carolyn Helen Davies, Dan Burgess, Sandra Taylor Hedges, Lesley McDougall, Robert St.Louis, Hugh Metcalfe, Morgan Tremblay and Debbie Harding Robertson. “This event is not a contest or competition, each artist is welcome to display, promote and market their work in their own way”, explains Riel. ” We are committed to creating this event about the artist, for the artist!” In addition to all the talented artists listed above, this event will also showcase two young emerging artists from this community. “We are also hoping to donate two spots to young artist in order to encourage them to continue pursuing their artistic interests, one of these positions has been filled by Morgan Tremblay, certainly a rising star to watch”, says Riel. There is no admission charge and five of the participating artists are graciously donating pieces as door prizes!

Family Ties As I walked out of the school doors today, I could feel the warmth of the sun on my face, and with the birds chirping and the bright sky, I realized that it had been too long since I really noticed them. We all get busy and in our own heads, being so task oriented, that we bypass the simple things. I am very guilty of this, and of course, the temperature shift we experienced recently didn’t help. We were basking in the sun to bundling up again, but that is something we have become accustomed to in this area.
Last weekend marked Mother’s Day and of course being a mom has always been my top accomplishment. This year, with Brad away, it did feel different. I picked him up early Sunday morning, and his disheveled look told me it would be a quiet ride back to Cornwall, but I was wrong. In fact, he talked all the way there. Sharing his experiences, telling me about his new roommates, talking about his plans for the fall and the new summer course he was taking in Creative Writing, that as I drove down the 401, I couldn’t help but smile; I accomplished a good thing.

Celebration! It’s not every day that you get to celebrate a $74 million dollar, two year long expansion process. But out and about, I got to do just that this past Thursday. “We are now officially a resort”, said Tribal Chief Randy Hart in a speech addressing guests, partners and media last Thursday night at the new Akwesasne Mohawk Casino Resort. “The project was built on time, on budget and is looking pretty darn good”, he added.
along the way. I tried to always find the balance between giving him some freedom, but protecting him as well; after all that is a big part of being a parent. We were not able to be in town for my dad’s birthday the previous week, so although it would be a brief visit, it was good to see my family again. We had a decent drive, and as I pulled into my parents driveway, I felt like I was home again. This is the home I grew up in and it is the one I can return to when I need to remember my roots, but something happened on this drive, and that pull back I usually feel as I near the exit, eased up. I saw my two sisters and my youngest niece and only nephew. There was no fanfare, it was a simple visit, but sometimes those are the best. I treated myself to a long promised gift of an IPAD a few weeks ago and brought it with me. My young niece discovered an app I downloaded but hadn’t used yet call Photobooth. Without much encouragement, or guidance, she figured out how it worked and went on to take a multitude of photos that distorted her face, added doubles of her and even provided a thermal look. In the end, I am not sure just how many she took, but she had fun. Brad loaded up his laptop to show the family some of his latest arts and projects, and then showed the movie trailer that he created. He wrote, directed, co-starred and even created the
special effects and makeup for a 35 minute mini movie with a 5 minute trailer. The family gathered around the kitchen table as Brad showed off his creative endeavor. My nephew Josh kept asking Brad to replay the scene where Brad jumped over the computer to avert the evil spirit that was chasing him. Hey, he’s all about the fantasy world. I was able to catch up with my family, hear about their news and before long, we had to head back. Brad stayed with me that evening and at first we planned on watching a movie, but instead proceeded to talk for the better part of the night. I ended up bringing him to the office to meet my co-workers, see my new office and get a feel for my new environment. We spent a pleasant day together, and when he packed up to return to Belleville, I had to smile at how independent he is becoming. He introduced me to some of his new roommates and then I headed back home. Home; it is something I am starting to call my new place. I am finally starting to establish some new connections, although I will always be grateful for the ones I have in my hometown. So when I need to nourish my soul, I know where to go; that is the beauty of family, the ties that bind us and never really let us go.

The casino reinvests a lot of its revenue in the community. Health, schools, libraries, museums, boys and girls club… All in all, over 200 programs get support from this business entreprise. “Gaming is a fun sport… not a way of life”, says Hart. Part of the expansion was to relocate the 28 year old Bingo Palace which is now standing in the east wing of the premises and operates 7 days a week. “Cosmic Bingo” takes place every Saturday Night from 10pm to midnight and features black lights, great music and florescent cards and ink. What’s next? A Grand Theater where World Class Acts will be performing. As Tribal Chief Paul Thompson says: “Not everybody can go to Vegas. The idea is to bring Vegas to them.”
Since it first opened in 1999, the casino has become one of the largest employers in the North Country, providing work for more than 980 people, 41% of which are natives. The newly built hotel created 68 new positions and features 150 luxurious guest rooms, a spa, a swimming pool, an extensive workout area and even an outdoor cigar lounge.

It’s the Journey not the Destination Last Wednesday I attended a networking event in Montreal. As I venture out to new networking events I carry two burning questions: will I meet someone and make a heartfelt connection and will I walk away with some new learning or piece of information. Like anything else in life, I believe that networking needs to be intentional. I was not disappointed. The guest speaker was Bhaskar Goswami of Bodhi Yoga Center in Montreal ( www.bodhiprinciple.com) who delivered an entertaining speech on a trek he and three cousins completed in the Himalayas. It was not particularly new information to me just a simple reminder of things I know but fail to practice consistantly.
I built our garden labyrinth. On the morning of June 2nd I stepped into the back yard to survey the project we were about to begin. Three weeks earlier Jim had cut the design for the labyrinth out of the grass. It was 40 feet in diameter and while I understood it was going to be no small feat, I had not fully comprehended the full breadth of the project. My task was to lift the remaining grass in the design, dig up the soil and prepare the area as a garden. My first response was a few expletives which cannot be shared in this article! You can use your imagination here. Then Jim appeared carrying a yard stick. He set it down in front of me and gave me the following instructions: Place the stick down, mark off the first three feet, move the stick away, dig up the grass, till the soil. REPEAT. Do not lift your head, simply be in the experience until you have finished. Respond to your task and enjoy each 3 foot segment. I did as he suggested and despite being tempted I did not look up. I stayed in the moment learning that it was very meditative to do so. Four days later the labyrinth was done and honestly, I could not have completed the task without following Jim’s instructions.
As Bhaskar shared his experience I was reminded that I have a tendency, when beginning any journey, to focus on where I am going, the destination. In doing so I often forget about the experience, that is the journey itself.
While this focus serves my need for being purposeful, it is a bit like wearing blinders, prohibiting me from checking my peripheral vision and actually experiencing what is going on in the moment. And so, if you are like me, I suggest that we all pause to smell the roses and to begin being more present with our journey, whether that is simply life, a big project we are managing or an actual trek up a mountainside. “Perhaps the turtle knows the road better than the hare.” Take the First Step Have you ever noticed that when you focus on the destination, the entire picture, that you get a wee bit overwhelmed. Eleven years ago I learned a vital lesson in living the journey when Jim and
The lesson, three feet at a time, has stayed with me since. Each time I begin a new project or embark on a new journey, I bring myself into the experience and consider the first three feet. Using this strategy will allow you to be more present and mindful of your surroundings, taking in information that is readily available to you but which can be so easily missed if you keep your focus only on the destination. It also enriches the experience. I so often meet individuals who are in overwhelm. It is my belief that they have lost a sense of the journey and why they are on the journey. Responding to overwhelm has two possible options: spinning, which is just continuing on the same course and forgetting to get grounded in the moment or pausing, which as described here brings you into the moment and allows you to be clear on your choices and decide on the first three feet. I can assure you, at least from my own experience, that carving out the first three feet, works wonders. And so I invite you to do the same: be present, mark off the first three feet, and enjoy the journey. You will reach your destination and along the way, enjoy the experience more.

SEEKERS KIDS IN THE “LOUPE” Last Saturday, the Poirier family went to the second edition of Ottawa COMICON - a Comic books and pop-culture convention. Here is what Zach and Benny Poirier had to say about the experience:
COMICON 2013
by: Zach Poirier (10yrs old)
Comicon in Ottawa this year was an amazing experience. You could get to be surrounded by fans of so many diffferent comic heroes. There were displays of robots such as R2-D2 of star wars, Darth Vader, a storm trooper, Princess Leah, "Peach", even the hover craft from the original film. We also got to meet real famous people..."Jordy" of star trek next generation, as well as "Hercules" actor Kevin Sorbo. Merchandise beyond your wildest dreams was also available, trading cards of "mind craft", swords, battle axes and you could even buy real axes, swords and lances. There was even trading card tournaments of all sorts. If you want more information contact me at zacharyandben@yahoo.ca
Zach Poirier (left) and Benny Poirier (right) are seen here dressed as the Mario Brothers with “Peach” from Super Mario.
COMICON in Ottawa was AWESOME by Benny Poirier (7yrs old)
Coolest part of the day (for me) was that I got to dress up like Mario for the day and shoot Imperial stormtroopers! R2 D2 was also cool to see up close as was Darth Vader and batman. I also got to see the original batmobile plus I had my photo taken with Iron Man as well as "Steve" (who's the main.character from minecraft).
Kevin Sorbo, who played Hercules opposite Xena princess warrior, is seen here with Zach and Benny and their father Dr. Paul Poirier who is giving his Team Cornwall card to the actor. Paul has met the other 2 actors who played Hercules. Arnold Swarchenegger who played Hercules in the 1977 movie "Hercules in New York" and Lou Ferrigno who played Hercules in the mid 80s. However he especially liked Kevin for the fact that he's suffered 3 strokes and yet is still going strong, much like Paul himself who has a brain tumour, but is definitely not letting that stop him! Upon the opinion of Jim Hern, Chairman of the Arnold Swarchenegger Film Festival, Paul was recommended to make a biographical documentary revolving around brain tumour awareness. Consequently he is presently making his movie titled “Test of a Man”.
SOCCER HEADQUARTERS Like most Canadians, I closely watched our women’s national soccer team play in last year’s Olympics. I fell in love with the team and although they were miles away, I swear my heart hurt as much theirs did when they lost to the United States in that semi final heart breaker. Bob Photo Credit:

black soccer shoes. They've been replaced by shoes in a rainbow of bright colours, reflecting what today's players demand. The flashier the better! And setting up the soccer section up in our store is one of my favourite times of the year because of the colourful selection of shoes, shin pads, shorts, socks and balls. Soccer is one sport where matching your equipment with your uniform is a fashion “faux pas”! At Play It Again Sports you can find NEW soccer shoes from Under Armour and Nike starting at only $29.99! You’ll also find Adidas and Umbro shoes included in our huge selection of over 40 styles of new shoes and plenty of second hand shoes starting at only $5.00. All you need to do is bring in your child or come in yourself and let us size you up properly.

THE SPORTING GOOD’S GIRL Dominique
Kevin was excited to hear that Jethro Tull will be narrating Paul’s film which will be completed by the end of the Summer. Paul is very honoured that Governor Arnold Swarchenegger has given permission for scenes of his 1990 movie “Kindergarden Cop” to be used in this movie. The Seeker Chicks are definitely looking forwardnto the release of this production!
As always here at Play It Again Sports you can bring in your gently used sports equipment to use on a trade towards your purchase!
One thing is for sure, it’s more affordable to play soccer compared to hockey, and parents get to sit outside during summer months rather then stand in a freezing cold rink.
Dominique Laroche Play It Again Sports Cornwall - Owner/Operator
Soccer may not be our national sport, but in 2012, 850,000 Canadians registered to play soccer compared to 572,000 for hockey. After the great Olympic run we had, I’m sure that number will only grow.
So it’s no surprise soccer is so popular. You can suit up a child head to toe well under $100. Soccer equipment has changed dramatically in recent years. Gone are
