Some stuff is good, some isn’t, but the world wide web has become such a complex, savvy little machine that it now compiles your behavioral habits and constantly adapts to show your more of what you initially asked for. In my case, that would be positive news.

Last week, I stumbled across a video that restored my faith in our youth, specifically our female youth. I met Laci Green.

Granted, Laci is not Canadian. She is a 24 year old American feminist/activist who hosts a widely popular sex education youtube show and travels the country to go speak about the contemporary issues young women either face, or will face, in their lifetime.

We need to empower women. We need to close the gap and promote gender equality. We need to stop using women's bodies to sell products and push ideas. This only contributes to the problem. Women are still paid about 25% less than men for doing the exact same job. The business world tend to support male owned enterprises more than a female counterpart and I can sadly assure you that this newspaper would be much further ahead today would a man be at the helm.

But it wouldn't be as positive now, would it? Young women can be the voice of change. I know It's hard to imagine, but your vote really does count. It is the key to every issue. I am not suggesting voting women in simply because they are women--that would be silly and there are many men who support equality. Just put the right ones in.

Julia Lucio, Editor in chief

The video titled “51 Pretty Shocking Facts That Make Things Harder For Every Woman You Have Ever Met” was a revelation, not only because it is outlines all that is wrong with our society and clearly points out the stereotypes women face each day, but also because it shows how little has changed since Susan B. Anthony joined the campaign for woman suffrage. Little battles were won, but the war is far from over.

We’ve all been there. Whenever we get upset about something dear to us, or passionately defend a point we believe in, it never fails. Somewhere, somehow, a man reduces our opinions to simply be that of a hormonal irrational witch who’s on her period. That’s what Laci is aiming to change. And what’s great about her is that she is reaching the crowd that matters, the crowd that can make change happen: the young women, who are fresh starting their lives, who are about to vote for the first time.

Also, all statements must be factual and specific to municipal issues facing the City of Cornwall. Misleading or slanderous comments will not be permitted. Cornwall skated to a 4-1 victory on Sunday afternoon at the Civic Complex in front of 1,374 fans. It was 24-year-old Anthony Mezzagno who led the attack for Cornwall with a two goals and an assist. FRIDAY ROAD WIN: Rookie forward Courcelles and veteran Corbeil scored two goals apiece to lead the Kings to a 6-5 road win at Laval on Friday night. Mezzagno chipped in with three assists. Patrick Langlois and Corriveau also scored for Cornwall, which led 6-1 early in the third period. Karvouniaris and Loic Lacasse shared the goaltending duties for the Kings, who were outshot 35-18. It’s that time again - leading up to the elections ... THE FIVE QUESTIONS SECTION Here are Five Questions with 2014 Cornwall Ontario City Council candidate DENIS CaRR Interview by Jason Setnyk. Submitted Photo. 1 – Tell the voters a bit about yourself. What skills and experience would make you a good candidate for Council? I am an experienced City Councillor . During the 4 years of Council I have served as Budget Committee Chair thereby giving me the opportunity to understand the operations of all city departments and the challenges that the budget presents to both administration and council. I also work for Heart of the City , the downtown revitalization project. A longtime downtown Cornwall resident , my wife Suzanne and I have 3 children Jamie , Danielle and Denis and we have 3 grand children. 2 – In what ways could we improve Economic Development and how can we make Cornwall a more friendly city for small businesses? I believe the set up we have for Economic Development works well and the Economic Development Committee’s input plays an important role I believe there is an opportunity to work with our neighbours to attract business and industry to our region. We certainly have to assist small businesses through the provincial and municipal permit process. I realize it can be frustrating and our message should be ‘How Can We Help?’.

Here are Five Questions with 2014 Cornwall Ontario City Council candidate gaRy W. SaMLER Interview by Jason Setnyk. Photo by Jason Setnyk. 1 – Tell the voters a bit about yourself. What skills and experience would make you a good candidate for Council? My wife Helene and I have been married 29 years together, we have 3 children and 6 grandchildren, I am a retired serviceman and a veteran. As a community activist I support social justice and as President of Friends of Vets I work to help vets and their families deal with PTSD. My military training skills brings a team player with Leadership, Integrity, Loyalty, Courage, Honesty, Fairness and Responsibility to the table. 2 – In what ways could we improve Economic Development and how can we make Cornwall a more friendly city for small businesses? Economic Development has to do more to promote our city and we need to clean up the bad image our city has to outsiders. Taxes are so high and small businesses are moving away because they have no support from our city. We all know what has to be done but for some unknown reason nothing is getting done, this has to change. 3 – What is your vision for arts and culture? Would you support the building of an arts and Culture Centre in Cornwall?

3 – What is your vision for arts and culture? Would you support the building of an arts and Culture Centre in Cornwall? There has been a great deal of talk about a cultural centre but very little action. I believe there are opportunities for revitalization including conversion of buildings in Le Village into a Cultural and Arts Centre. Its time for action on this issue and all the Arts and Cultural groups have part to play. 4 – Do you support freezing or lowering taxes? If so, where would the savings come from, and would you support reducing some services? If you do not support freezing or lowering taxes explain why. Cutting taxes means cutting services. We have reduced our tax rate by over 13% since 2008 , assessment has increased by 17% over the same period. The house worth $139,000 in 2008 is now worth $163,000. We have kept tax increases at or below inflation. I know promises are made during the election campaign but that’s all they are promises, its easy. Delivering is the difficult part. 5 – What has been the biggest accomplishment at City Hall over the past four years OR what has been the biggest issue of concern at City Hall over the past four years? I believe that during the last four years we have been very successful in attracting new commercial business to our industrial park . Right now we are witnessing a building boom in the downtown , the Cotton Mill projects are underway , we have a new modern hospital and our recreation facilities are the envy of many communities. The future is bright for the City of Cornwall and I want to be part of it.

return to show off our local talent, our culture and our heritage. A great event but was poorly supported by the city. 4 – Do you support freezing or lowering taxes? If so, where would the savings come from, and would you support reducing some services? If you do not support freezing or lowering taxes explain why. Taxes are what we need for a city to survive. I would not support freezing or lowering taxes but I also realize we are the highest taxed city in the province. I feel we need to live within our means and stop wasting and spending our tax dollars foolishly. I would first look to find other ways for savings without cutting or reducing services like cutting the cost to put dangerous chemicals in our fresh water supply and vote against the huge 41% pay raise that this council hopes to pass next term of council or hire a consultant to hire a new HR manager. 5 – What has been the biggest accomplishment at City Hall over the past four years OR what has been the biggest issue of concern at City Hall over the past four years? I feel there haven’t been accomplishments and failures only for the past four years. This government has been a total embarrassment to the citizens of Cornwall. They raised taxes every year; they have not been accountable. They ignored all poverty and environmental issues. There has been scandals, payouts, illegal closed door meetings, whistle blowers attacked, beavers killed, a t-shirt embarrassment, money wasted, the loss of our Hospital and Tanks showing up on our waterfront, an outrageous pay raise given themselves and the only growth has been an increase of sexual assaults and growing inequality between the very rich and hardworking middle class.

I would support an arts center and the Port but artists need to work together and step up to make this happen. I would also love to see events like Parade of Nations

Interview by Jason Setnyk. Photo by Carol Grant. 1 – Tell the voters a bit about yourself. What skills and experience would make you a good candidate for Council? I am a health care worker in the Cornwall area, and from this I have seen a lot of people in a lot of different situations. I have experience running a small business as well. I know how to stay within a budget from the business experience and also from being a single parent. I am no stranger in regard to our city council, having served a two year term. I am forthright and do not believe in cover-ups or hidden agendas. Integrity and quality of behavior are values I follow. 2 – In what ways could we improve Economic Development and how can we make Cornwall a more friendly city for small businesses? By making the process of obtaining a business license and the permits necessary to implement those businesses easier and more pleasant to obtain, there would then be a more positive environment for businesses of all sizes to come forward and locate here. If we developed a tourist area near the downtown or in La Village, this would attract more business owners as well as clients for them. What may be a deterrent is the high taxation rate that this city has. Just saying that we are open for business is not enough. We have to indicate how we are going to help businesses survive. 3 – What is your vision for arts and culture? Would you support the building of an arts and Culture Centre in Cornwall?

There were always problems and concerns with rehearsal sites and show sites. Having been a former member of the Glen Theater board, I also am aware of the problems regarding the maintenance of a privately owned building. We need a focal point for the arts. Aultsville Theatre is owned by St. Lawrence College, and, therefore, control is in their hands. There are some large spaces vacant in the city. These should be studied for feasibility in regards to an art and culture center, which would be an asset to attract more people here and more businesses. 4 – Do you support freezing or lowering taxes? If so, where would the savings come from, and would you support reducing some services? If you do not support freezing or lowering taxes explain why. Lowering or freezing of taxes is always a hot topic. Our taxes are very high. Essential services should never be reduced. Finding savings within all departments is crucial every year. Waste exists. Find it and eliminate it. Depending upon the services, user fees should be reasonable and equal to all users. One huge problem is salaries for those working for the city. We need to look at what we take in versus what we can give out. There should be caps to salaries that are realistic for this city. 5 – What has been the biggest accomplishment at City Hall over the past four years OR what has been the biggest issue of concern at City Hall over the past four years? I think the biggest accomplishment for City Hall is that they have started to talk to the Federal Government about taking over waterfront land. You can’t have control over what you do not own. The biggest issue I feel is the amount of controversy that surrounded some former staff and the issues involving these people which ended in court cases. With the amount of secrecy that was present regarding these events, and the amount of money that was paid out to end the events, Cornwall suffered a lot. I believe that if you have done wrong, no one should try to cover it up. We need integrity and honesty. It’s time to move on.

I have a history of producing shows, plays actually, for fund raising in Cornwall.

organizations to share expenses and reduce duplicate costs. There is strength in numbers and it is only through cooperation and the sharing of common goals that this umbrella organization could survive and indeed flourish. I support an Arts and Culture Centre for our community and one that is possibly created from an existing rehabilitated property, with ongoing support from all levels of government as well as the local business sector. 4 – Do you support freezing or lowering taxes? If so, where would the savings come from, and would you support reducing some services?

I was born, raised and educated in Cornwall. I am bilingual and married with two children. I am a past member of the Waterfront Development Committee, Audit Committee, the Library Board as well as local and regional French school councils and a board committee. I am a member of the United Counties Science Fair Committee and I volunteer with the Canadian Guide Dogs for the Blind as a puppy walker.

Council decisions have long-term costs in ongoing operational expenditures and capital commitments for upgrades and replacements – we cannot mortgage our children’s futures for the sake of “wants” rather than “needs”. Taxes can be frozen and possibly reduced over the next four years and I will work hard to ensure that they do!

My volunteer work, committee experience and my ability to work as part of a team would serve the taxpayers well on Council. I always do my homework and come prepared!

Council should be reduced from 10 councillors to 8, with the salary and related expenditure savings returned to reserves and their remuneration should be frozen over the four year term. The City has to look at doing things differently with an eye to reducing costs and gaining efficiencies.

2 – In what ways could we improve Economic Development and how can we make Cornwall a more friendly city for small businesses? If we are to expand and diversify our tax base and ensure that our citizens have good jobs and adequate housing then we have to definitely explore ways to improve our efforts in Economic Development. The Community Improvement Program must be revised to ensure fair and equitable treatment of all areas of the City. Small business owners need to meet with and advise Council which municipal processes and procedures need improving, and in what way. Council then needs to act upon what is presented in order to assist in expanding existing businesses and promote the creation of new businesses. 3 – What is your vision for arts and culture? Would you support the building of an arts and Culture Centre in Cornwall?

5 – What has been the biggest accomplishment at City Hall over the past four years OR what has been the biggest issue of concern at City Hall over the past four years? The City’s online access to data by taxpayers in English and French is a step in the right direction with respect to transparency. The biggest issue of concern would be the apparent lack of teamwork in some instances. Decision making by Council must include input from all stakeholders, namely Council, administration and the taxpayers. All the facts must be present at the table prior to a sound decision being taken, and only once Council has had a chance to consult with all parties concerned. There is an old saying that “knowledge equals power”, so do it right the first time! Thank you for this opportunity to reach out to the voters of Cornwall.

My vision would be one where all of the arts and culture organizations come together under one cohesive umbrella. This amalgamation would allow these

Letters & Opinion Setnyk asks Should the Chamber Debate take place before advanced Polls open? Dear Readers,

Should the Cornwall Chamber of Commerce debate take place before advance polls open instead of after the polls open? Advance polls open in Cornwall on Thursday, October 9, 2014. The Chamber of Commerce debate, which is the best attended and only televised debate, takes place almost a week later on Wednesday, October 15th, 2014. All the debates are important, however because the Chamber debate has the highest viewership, I think it would be in the interest of all eligible voters to have that debate before the advance polls open. It is only fair.

It would give all voters the best opportunity to make an informed decision, and to best compare each of the candidates platforms and qualifications. Although this might not be the intention of the Chamber of Commerce, having their debate a week after the advance polls open may give the incumbents an unfair advantage. Should the Chamber debate take place before the advance polls open? I think it should, but what do you think Cornwall?

I am so honoured and thrilled to have been personally invited by Kathy Smart to attend her “Ignite your metabolism seminar in Ottawa, this Saturday, September 27th. Very life changing week for this Health Nut!! First of all, earlier this week, I met with Michelle Gauthier, owner of Natural Balance Fitness here in Cornwall, Ontario. After previously meeting with her and completing a very detailed questionnaire, she has set up a meal plan along with amazing recipes to help me live my best life ever! Being 49 years old, normal hormonal changes are going on in my life and I strongly feel that Michelle is my answer to get through it in a healthy way. She will be helping me get my metabolism back on track and feel great about myself again. Can’t wait to start this new health journey! Michelle will also be putting together a great personal training routine for me that will help keep my body in tip, top shape‌.woohoo! I promise to keep you posted on my progress‌.

Lice! What are they? How do you know when you have them? Where you can catch them? How to get rid of them? ... Are you itchy yet? Article by Danielle Dionne First of all, Lice are very common and it’s unbelievable to know how many people do not know anything about this pest, other than they make you itchy and feel dirty. Lice is plural for the word “louse”, chances are you’ll never have a louse. By the time you find one, there probably already have reproduced. They are parasites that live off your skin cells and blood. Most lice feed on blood several times a day, but they can survive up to 2 days off the scalp. Yes, that means in your carpets, bed sheets, teddy bears, car seat, coats etc.. I know what you’re thinking “Gross!” Nits are the eggs of lice that are glued to the hair and normally hatch around the 10th day of being laid. Once hatched the Nits turn into a lice Nymph which continue growing and molting up to 3 times over a 10day period. Here’s the disturbing part, 10 days after hatching the adult louse start laying anywhere between 50-150 eggs over a 28 day cycle. That is about 5 eggs a day per bug! By the 28th day the adult louse dies. The sign of possibly having lice is an itchy scalp. No you cannot feel them walking, it simply feels itchy and perhaps irritated. When inspecting a head of hair for lice, you will need a fine tooth comb, tail combs work best in order to split tiny sections of the hair. The heat zones on the head for lice is near the nape area (back of the head starting in the hairline) and just above and behind the ears. Make sure to have proper lighting. Checking outside on a sunny day is ideal. The lice themselves look like wingless fruit flies walking on the scalp, and yes they can jump a little, but not like a flea. They are very small usually and scurry extremely fast. They are more clear with a black dot within their body when they are young, as they become adults they get no bigger than a sesame seed and are a greyish/beige color. The egg nits look like a pearly tear drop that is stuck on the hair shaft, normally about ¼”-1” away from the scalp. When finding them, try pinching one between two fingers and removing it, if it slides, it’s probably just dry skin, if it is sticking to the hair and hard to slide down hair shaft, probably a nit. Don’t be fooled, these eggs can also be found on the very top of your head, bangs, sideburns and yes beards. There is no specific season to catch Lice. Often we associate lice with back to school, and of course it seems this way. Lice tend to be found mostly on children, children play together, hug each other and share hats, (even when we tell them not to!) But the truth is, you can catch lice any time in the year. If one doesn’t take the cleaning measures seriously, anyone they come in contact with can also catch them, from them directly or from their home. It is often said that those who have lice are dirty. But “au contraire”, lice are able to lay eggs on cleaner hair than dirty hair. Let us compare dirty hair to a high gloss paint, slippery with hardly any grip. Now compare clean hair to a freshly primed wall, with embossed grip, ready to have anything stick to it. Don’t judge one with lice to being dirty, they’re probably just unlucky. But, luckily teachers and daycare providers help find the signs of lice in our children. Unfortunately children no longer get sent home for having head lice. As much as it’s not a health hazard, it is very distracting to the child to have an itchy scalp all day. By scratching, the scalp can then become irritated and could also get infected. In my opinion there should be more knowledge on head lice in the schools and in the homes. This is why I am writing this article. Head checks are no longer allowed in schools, so it is up to the parents/ guardians of the parents to make sure these parasites don’t invade your head, home. There are many websites online that you can refer to In order to prevent , recognize and treat for head lice. Local pharmacies and hair stylists are also great fountains of knowledge when it comes to this matter. There are a few different ways to prevent lice. shampoo less often, use hair products, lavender oil, tea tree oil. The essential oils act like a citronella to a mosquito, will redirect them from wanting to be on you, but will not kill them. The hair products and natural scalp oils will grease up the hair allowing to become “the high gloss, no grip wall”. Treating your hair is a whole different thing. There are a few different treatments you can purchase over the counter. (Nyda, Zap,Nix). These treatments are great, but, you must read the directions properly. COMB, COMB, COMB! That is the trick. The comb is the key tool to removing nits. Remember, you miss one nit, that nit may hatch, 10 days later more eggs… Take extremely small sections of the hair with a tail comb and use the lice comb to remove every single nit. It might take two people, a bright light and a bowl of hot water and vinegar. When removing the eggs with the comb, stir the comb in the bowl of hot water to remove eggs, and continue. Those who do not want to use harsh chemicals to remove lice can also use an alternative more natural mixture. Mineral and Vinegar, mix 50/50. Saturate entire head and massage it in. The

vinegar will kill the lice and nits and the mineral oil will ease the nit removal. Once the hair is completely saturated apply a shower cap to the head and heat with blow dryer for 5 minutes and leave on head for another 60-90 minutes. Rince out. Do not shampoo. Here’s the part where you COMB, COMB, COMB. I know it’s repetitive, but it’s necessary. After combing every single nit out. Shampoo twice and condition.

As stated in a previous paragraph, lice can live off scalp for to 48 hours off scalp. So, now that you removed the nits you need to make sure that the house is clean. There are chemical sprays you can use for the upholstery, bedding etc.. It’s not guaranteed. All bedding , clothing, towels, should be washed with hot water, detergent and white vinegar. All stuffed animals/teddies should be plastic bagged and put in freezer for at least 2 days. As for the couches , and car seats, spraying them with the lice spray is fine. In conclusion, anyone can get lice. Just try and make the preventative measures. Keep hair from being squeaky clean, do head checks on children and yourself every 28 days. Teach your children, not to share hats, scarves, hugs at school or daycare. Do not try hats on in stores, buy it, bring it home, place in freezer for at least 2 days! I know, seems extreme, but getting rid of these little pests is a lot more work! Hopefully this will help the awareness of these little pests and I will see less cases in the hair salon! ☺ Danielle Dionne

FRIENDS SHARING WHILE I RECUPERATE Well, my dear readers, as you read my column this week, I will have a brand new knee! So, if you don't see me in my store for a bit, you will know why. I am not on a wonderful vacation somewhere in the sun! Instead I am at home suffering but getting stronger and better each day. my dear daughter Tammy and good friend Dorothy and my grandson Jacob will be filling in for me at Sharyn's Pantry. It's business as usual and I am no further away than the telephone or computer. you can e-mail me at 'info@sharynspantry.com' if you need me. my good friend morris Shaver, hearing that I didn't have any recipes using our store's natural peanut butter in squares, gave my several handwritten pages of recipes. his words were: 'Dear Sharyn, I am so concerned , surprised and bewildered that you did not have or make squares with peanut butter, I have come to your rescue.' you can tell by this friendly bantering, that we have some interesting conversations that include recipes and politics. need I say more? I have made the following recipe from morris which was very simple to do. It is made in your microwave. you will use an 8 cup microwave-safe container. I used a lovely pyrex glass bowl which my daughter Jen gave me as a gift just last week. If you don't want to use a microwave, just use a double boiler or place a bowl over a pot of simmering water on your stove. Thanks morris for caring and sharing and for your good sense of humour. It sure is a lot better to laugh than to be grumpy! It is nice to see the glass half full than half empty.

store, Sharyn's Pantry. I tastes and looks exactly like peanut butter. If there is no allergy concern, you can also substitute the peanut butter with Sharyn's Pantry pure almond butter which has nothing but almonds. No additives, sugar or salt.

MORRIS' CHOCOLaTE MaRSHMaLLOW SQUaRES This recipe makes a 9" x 13" pan. no baking required, just your microwave. We carry all ingredients needed at my store, Sharyn's Pantry. INGREDIENTS:

1 cup of butterscotch chips 1 cup of pure semi-sweet chocolate chips 1 cup of natural crunchy or smooth peanut butter ( Sharyn's Pantry peanut butter is sold bulk. We fill a jar or container which you can bring in from home, or you can use a container from our store. You can buy just as much as you need. This lovely peanut butter with nothing but peanuts-- has no added salt, sugar or preservatives!) 1/2 cup of butter 1- 250 gram package of mini white marshmallows (or 4 to 5 cups)

METHOD: -In an 8 cup microwave-safe pyrex bowl, combine the butterscotch and chocolate chips and the natural peanut butter and the butter. -Microwave on HIGH for 1- 1/2 minutes. Stir with a spatula and continue to microwave at 30 second intervals, stirring each time, until the chipits are completely melted. It took me about 5 or 6 minutes to achieve this. -Don't forget to use oven mitts as the bowl will get quite hot. -Remove the bowl from the microwave and allow the mixture to cool slightly for several minutes. Then stir in the marshmallows. Mix well so everything is combined. -Butter your 9" x 13" pan. Then pour out the marshmallow mixture into the pan. Spread out evenly and allow to cool. I place the pan in my fridge to set up more quickly. -When ready, just cut up into squares. EnJOy!

VARIATIONS: Instead of the peanut butter, you could replace the same amount with WOW BUTTER, which is a substitute for peanut butter made from soy beans in a peanut free facility. Then the kids can take it to school as a snack. We sell this product at my

"I have never seen Zeppelin Live, I was way too young." "Have you played Led Zeppelin songs in other bands, before Mothership?" "Yes Zeppelin songs have always come in and out of set lists since my very first bands as a teenager." "What brought on the decision to form Mothership?" "This project came about by a chance jam. I have played with and have known Rich Fullerton(our singer in Mothership) since my early 20's. We decided to get together one Friday night and just jam for the fun of it. We jammed thru several different songs from ZZ-Top, Pearl Jam to some Zeppelin. We happened to play The Ocean and Black Dog I believe, and when Rich started singing I got goose bumps because of how close he sounded to Robert Plant. Right then and there I said we have to put together a Zep Tribute band. I also knew that I didn't just want to be a cover band. I am a huge Genesis fan, and have seen the band Musical Box from Montreal every time they come to town. They also do a theatrical version of Genesis, with all the costumes and gear needed to put on this type of show. I knew I wanted to do something similar to this with Mothership." "Do you have any words for fans or aspiring guitarists?" "Words for fans: I hope you enjoy what we do as much as we enjoy doing it. For guitarists. First and foremost LISTEN ! I would have to say listen to as many styles of music as possible. Keep your mind open and play with as many people as possible." "Well, I'd like to thank you again for spending time with me, Steve. I feel we've gotten to know you a bit better, and we look forward to the show on October the 4th at the ~Port Theatre~, 132 Montreal Road in Cornwall, Ont. Tickets $20 in advance... $25 at the door. Doors open at 7:00... Show at 8:00 to 11:00. I look forward to seeing you there." Until next week, The Best Make-up is your SMILE. There is No Beauty like the one that comes from INSIDE of YOU. "How many times had you seen Led Zeppelin live in concert, and in what cities?"

Accept the fact a blended family may not be the ideal family. Don't rush to try to create a harmonious family feeling; be patient and creative ensuring nonresident kids do not become jealous of the resident kids and feel left out. Set up rules and expectations regarding behavior and schedules and enforce them consistently. Note: Your non-resident kids may have different rules in their other home, but they must also know what to expect at your house. Insist that everyone speaks to and treats one another with respect.

"I discovered Led Zeppelin very young. I am the youngest of 4 boys, and my older brothers( musicians as well) were always playing Zeppelin, Purple, Genesis Santana in there room. Of coarse I wanted to hang out with my brothers."

LIFESTYLE

"When did you discover Led Zeppelin, and how did they impact your playing?"

Take classes on step parenting before the merger by contacting a child care referral service in your area. Foster an atmosphere of open communication by holding regular family discussions to talk about issues as they arise. Strike a balance between having everyone's feelings heard and doing what needs to be done. Keep things simple and talk to each child at his or her own level. Talk to your partner/spouse about the best way to handle disciplining each other's kids by establishing ground rules, setting limits and defining what's appropriate. When discussing any child, criticize the behavior, not the child.

"Next question please !! Hahaha. I have been playing for about 35 years which is as long as I can remember."

LIFESTYLE

Use step family support networks, a licensed social worker, or your religious affiliation to find positive solutions to problems as they come up.

I recently had the pleasure of interviewing guitarist, Steve Milley of The Mothership, an amazing ~Led Zeppelin~ tribute band who will be performing here in Cornwall at the Port Theater in October. If you don't know the Mothership, you are missing out on 'Canada's Led Zeppelin', as they have been called. They are truly the closest thing to seeing Led Zeppelin in concert at the height of their career. "Steve, How long have you been playing the guitar?"

Hi there to everyone who is reading the ~Seeker~ this week. I know that the Summer is really over now... colder nights, chillier mornings and the leaves are changing fast...but I do have some inside news from ~Johnny Radar~. He's telling me that this weekend is going to be ~Simmering Summer-like weather with temperatures up to nearly 30 degrees C. It's "Indian Summer" time...Time to get your "stuff" together for the Winter. This is when Mother Nature gives us these warmer days so that we can get all of our outside chores over and done with, before Old Man Winter comes blowing in for another season.

Article by Jason Setnyk Cornwall Ontario — Ontario Hockey Academy alumni Jack Nevins is one of 64 players that participated in the 2014-15 Montreal Canadiens training camp which began on Friday September 19th. Last week Jack Nevins was one of 44 rookies who participated in the Montreal Canadiens Rookie Camp. 31 of those rookies including Jack Nevins were invited to the Habs training camp. OHA alumni Jack Nevins has earned the opportunity to skate along side Montreal Canadiens players such as PK Subban, Carey Price, Andrie Markov, Tomas Plekanec, and Max Pacioretty. The previous week, Paul Swindlehurst, another OHA alumni, participated in the Chicago Blackhawk’s rookie camp. The Chicago Blackhawks rookie team lost 5-4 in over time against the Pittsburgh Penguins rookie team in the 2014 Rookie Camp tournament.

How does it work? Marie conducts a consultation to determine your organizational needs and sets up organizing sessions. It is only at the end of a consultation that the time and costs involved can adequately be estimated. Marie Morrell understands you may only want a “rough estimate” over the phone, but until she actually sees your space, she cannot begin to determine which things require time and expertise and which things can be improved or resolved with just some helpful tips and solutions.

If networking is something that you would like to be involved with, send an email to rsvp@cornwallbusinessnetwork.com to reserve your spot for monday’s breakfast. It will be a fun, productive way to help grow your business.

LIFESTYLE

Services also include: home staging for house sale, personal assets inventory for insurance purposes, advice on letting go of possessions with sentimental values/downsizing and personal/group classes on organization for any room in your home.

The goal of the group is quite simple. Members help other members expand their businesses by exchanging leads and referrals with one another. They meet every fourth Monday for breakfast where they discuss group events, mingle, exchange leads and most importantly, have a great time. Anyone is welcome to come and they are open to the public. There is one rule however that we all must abide by: there can only be one member from any given industry. One Realtor, one lawyer, one banker, one doctor, one chiropractor, one graphic designer, and so on. This ensures that each and every member benefits entirely from the referrals of the group and prevents any internal competition. Afterall, their goal is to help one another, not compete with one another.

Marie understands the feelings related to an out of control state that many people experience in today's hectic world resulting in stress, guilt, and embarrassment. She helps her clients overcome these feelings through friendly yet systematic, confidential and a non-judgmental approach. You will soon be on your way to a more organized environment and life and you will stay organized and in control.

“With social media and internet marketing at an all-time high, we decided to create the Cornwall Business Network in the hopes of restoring a once well-practiced form of business networking – face to face interaction!”, says Brock Frost, founder of the group. “Most business these days is conducted online and can become extremely impersonal and insincere. Our group focuses on strengthening personal relationships which in turn helps us all to improve our own businesses.”

LIFESTYLE

Marie's background includes behavioral modification and psychology (working with hoarders), records management (manual and electronic), facilities and business management (filing systems for book keeping/income tax preparation), materiel (material and services) management and event organization.

The Cornwall Business Network will hold their season’s Kick Off Breakfast next Monday, September 29 and they are getting ready for a successful year of “building a network of connections, one referral at a time”. The event takes place at the Best Western Parkway Inn from 7:45 to 9:00aM and everybody is welcome.

Then let Marie Morrell, an expert in the field of organization for home and business, help you reclaim your life and space with "A Work Easy Solution".

Cornwall Ontario — Earlier this month local musician Chris Benton released his debut full length album entitled “The Lonely Ones”. The “Lonely Ones” features ten tracks that feel cohesive as an album but also provider the listener with a nice variety of style to keep every song feeling fresh. On the album you will hear guitars, bass, drums, and vocals all performed by Chris himself.

You can download the full album on Chris’s Band Camp page at chrisbenton.bandcamp.com or on iTunes. You can pick up a physical copy of the CD around Cornwall at a number of music shops, coffee shops, and convenience stores. Chris plans to get out and play as many shows as possible to support “The Lonely Ones”, so make sure to check out his Facebook page so you don’t miss out!

The album was recorded at Dream Builders studios located here in Cornwall by recording engineer Roy Nichol. Chris has been playing shows as a solo act for quite a while now but is currently in search of band members to fill out his live sound. “When you listen to the album it sounds like a full band because I played everything to make it sound that way”, said Chris. “It could be difficult to pull that off live,” laughs Chris.

Smiles turned up, red or purple gloves raised and waving, RED HATS on top of every happy head!

Tuesday, September 16, the Red Hat ladies met at Logan’s Framing Gallery for lunch in the Cline Tea Room. What a delightful bunch, all so happy to see each other, fussing over the gorgeous purple dresses, terrific red hats and cool, sometimes funky accessories. A charming melange of red and purple. Two “Queens” act as hostesses for the outing, so are there early to be sure everything is arranged and set up. For heaven’s sake, Mike Logan has even set a red had adorned with purple (fake) fur trim atop the water cooler! There are white tablecloths, red napkins, sparkling glasses, lovely cups and saucers (many with red hats on them) and Red Hat teapots, cream pitchers and sugar bowls. The server is wearing a cute, long apron with guess what? You got it…Red Hats on it. The fashion statement was started by a California Woman who decided she was not going to follow all the fashion “rules” once she turned 50. She would even wear red and purple together if she wished! Ladies under 50 can join, but are notable because they must wear pink hats until they get “reduated”. Get it? RED-uated?! The group plans regular outings, always with fun and merriment as the aim. This particular group is currently full, with 20 members, as this is a manageable number to organize events for. These ladies are certainly not worried about “acting their age”! A regular “Happy gang” Their meal sounded amazing, and as a “soup tester”, I can vouch for that part! Creamy broccoli and cheese, served in fine china cups and saucers. I really hated to leave all that laughter behind. Gotta get me one of those red hats! THEATRE COMPANY
