Electricity Rates to Jump by 14%
Dress for Less: New gowns at thrift store prices the Moose Creek Mall,? she said. ?It?s our turn to give back.?
From the desk of Jim MacDonnell QUEEN?S PARK ? Ontario electricity ratepayers will be stung by a 14% rate hike on May 1 as Hydro One?s peak and mid-peak prices increase to 14 cents per kWh and 12.2 cents per kWh.
?Residents of Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry can?t afford the unjustifiably high hydro rates being charged today, let alone pay for further increases? MPP McDonell commented. ?Ontario has the highest rates in North America ? businesses are finding our province less competitive, unaffordable to do business in and they are leaving. We heard Liberal empty promises about helping alleviate poverty and new assistance programs for ratepayers, however these continuing rate increases completely offset any extra transfers ratepayers could have received?.
The projected sale of Hydro One assets, the new Cap-and-Trade carbon pricing system and subsidies to wind and solar producers are likely to add extra costs to an average Ontarian?s bill.
?The Government?s plan to sell off Hydro One and divert the proceeds to pet projects rather than paying off Hydro?s debt will leave Ontario ratepayers with even more cost on their bills? MPP McDonell stated. ?The Government needs to stop wasting money and immediately scrap their plans for a fire sale of Hydro one and their planned carbon tax. Ontarians can?t afford Liberal waste any longer. When will the Liberals realize enough is enough??
The Seeker would like to thank

Super Her oes of CAPE Article and photo(s) by Jason Setnyk Cornwall Ontario -- A local cartoonist joked that this is the first time he has ever seen this many nerds at the Benson Centre. All kidding aside, the first ever Cornwall & Area Pop Event took place last Saturday April 18th, and it an amazing success. An estimated 4000 people attended this fantastic and fun event with comic books, cosplay, vintage toys, and video games. There were long line ups to get in, but it was well worth the wait. Children were laughing, people were dressed up in costumes, and there was a lot to see and do. Randy Sauve and Carol Grant were the super heroes who organized this event which also featured several celebrity guest. Article and Photo(s) by Jason Setnyk
Comic Book Men is a reality TV show that airs on AMC. The setting of the show is at Kevin Smith's comic book shop, Jay and Silent Bob's Secret Stash, located in New Jersey. Many celebrities have visited the store including Spider Man creator Stan Lee, Nichelle Nichols who played Uhura on the original Star Trek, and Dean Cain who played Superman in Lois & Clark.
Interviews with Ming Chen and Michael Zapcic of AMC's Comic Book Men at CAPE
Here is an exclusive interview by Jason Setnyk of The Seeker with Ming Chen and Michael Zapcic of AMC's Comic Book Men at CAPE.
Jason Setnyk: Hi Ming and Michael, I would like to interview you, I'm with the Seeker newspaper. Ming Chen: The Seeker, of course we know the Seeker, we were on the front cover! Jason Setnyk: Wow, you knew about that, so awesome! My first question: What we see on television, is that what it is really like in the store on a regular day? Michael Zapcic: We have people coming in trying to sell stuff, but what you don't see is people bringing in their boxes of crap. Ming Chen: We get a lot of garbage, probably 90% garbage. Michael Zapcic: People bringing in water stained and damaged comics saying that they want full value. Ming Chen: Or I want a million dollars for Richie Rich. Michael Zapcic: Yup, not going to happen. Even if it is rare, it's not worth much unless somebody actually wants it. The key to collecting is pretty much having something that somebody else wants. Jason Setnyk: What was it like to meet Stan Lee when he came into the Secret Stash for a photoshoot? Michael Zapcic: Stan Lee is awesome. He is every bit the legend we heard and just a very congenial man. Ming Chen: They say never meet your heroes? Go meet Stan Lee, if he is anywhere within 500 miles, go meet Stan Lee. Michael Zapcic: Yup, he is well worth your time. Jason Setnyk: Who were your other favourite people to visit the Comic Book shop? Star Trek's Uhura? Michael Zapcic: She was excellent. Ming Chen: Nichelle Nichols was awesome. I know you're a big Star Trek fan. Michael Zapcic: Absolutely. Ming Chen: But she kissed Bryan, why didn't she kiss me? Michael Zapcic: She did kiss Bryan, good for him. Ming Chen: We also got to meet Billy Dee Williams. I'm a huge Star Wars fan. Jason Setnyk: Talking about Star Wars, what did you think of the trailer for the new movie? Michael Zapcic: I've played it on loop since it has come out. If I wasn't coming to Cornwall, I'd be at home right now watching it over and over again. I'm at CAPE, and it'll still be there when I get back. Jason Setnyk: Have you seen the new Superman vs. Batman (trailer)? Michael Zapcic: No. I'm waiting for Imax. Ming Chen: Exactly, Imax, see it on the big screen, full resolution, none of this bootleg stuff. Jason Setnyk: What are your favourite collectables? Michael Zapcic: Comics. Ming Chen: Besides comics, GI Joe. Old school 3 1/ 4 inch. I love seeing the old school Star Wars toys. Michael Zapcic: I'm a Justice League Unlimited fan. The 3 1/ 4 Unlimited from the animated show is very cool. Ming Chen: With the new Star Wars films coming out, I'm afraid I'm going to be sucked into buying all new collectables. Michael Zapcic: You will. Ming Chen: I have no where to put them. Michael Zapcic: Buy a storage bin. Oh, and I like to collect original art too. Jason Setnyk: What are your thoughts about being in Cornwall today for CAPE? Michael Zapcic: Canada is amazing, you're so welcoming. Someone brought me Cuban cigars. I'll have to smoke them before I go back across the border. Which, my god, I will. Ming Chen: Cornwall, you guys are amazing. Canada, thank you for the warm welcome! Michael Zapcic: Anytime you want us back, all you have to do is ask. Jason Setnyk: Thank you Ming Chen and for this interview.

Article and Photo(s) by Jason Setnyk Amber Dawn Fox has appeared in TV shows like The Vampire Diaries, The Originals, Nashville, and Under The Dome. She also also appeared in movies like Dear John and Dumb and Dumber To. Most recently she has starred as Officer Bello in several episodes of Season 5 of the Walking Dead. She was a part of the mid-season finale scene when (spoiler alert) Beth dramatically and tragically dies. Here is an exclusive interview by Jason Setnyk of The Seeker with Amber Dawn Fox at CAPE.
Jason Setnyk: Tell us about how you originally met the cast and crew of the Walking Dead. Amber Dawn Fox: I have been a fan of the Walking Dead since Season One. I was at a big convention over in the United States called Walker Stalker, but that was before I even landed the role. Jason Setnyk: What is it like being on set and working with the cast of the Walking Dead?
Amber Dawn Fox: I was very excited to be there, everyone was very down to earth. With such a big show like that you don't know what you are going to go into and whether you'll have people with the big egos and all that stuff. Everyone I worked with was down to earth. The most interesting thing for me is this was the only set I had to drive through fans to get to work because they find out where the show is filming. Jason Setnyk: Who is your favourite character on the Walking Dead and what was it like to met him or her? Amber Dawn Fox: Daryll. It was awesome. He's a nice guy. Jason Setnyk: Do you think the success of the Walking Dead is because any character can die at any time? Amber Dawn Fox: Absolutely. It is pretty much the only show on television that does that. It keeps the fans interested. Jason Setnyk: Which characters were you most sad to see die over the seasons? Amber Dawn Fox: I would have to say Dale and Hershel. Jason Setnyk: What are your thoughts on the first ever CAPE here in Cornwall? Amber Dawn Fox: It's exciting. I heard it is the first one. Jason Setnyk: Thank you Amber Dawn Fox for this interview.

DESNO YERS CAN WE CALL IT A ?HAT TRICK? On April 22, the Vernissage of the Focus Art Spring show was held at the Cornwall Library. A friendly crowd gathered to hear Linda Geisel, vice-president, welcome the group and thank those who faithfully gave hours of their time to bring together such a varied and talented group of artists. The 62 art pieces range from sculpture, drawing, photography, pastel, watercolour, oil, and acrylic to mixed media. There is something for all tastes. The People?s Choice, a result of a vote by the public, will be revealed on May 9th at the closing ceremony. There is still time to visit and vote.
The star of the evening must go to Kathleen Morin who by opening night had sold all three of her beautiful acrylic paintings (Québec, Winter Sunrise and Salt-water Marsh-Matamek). Kathleen?s style is fresh and bold verging on the cusp of abstract in her use of colour but drawing from her love of the natural shapes for content. A ?Hat trick? it is. Congratulations.
Kathleen Mori and Linda Geisel

From what I hear she is not alone; others are doing well. Good for all of you!
on the pros and cons of having a permanent art space for the members of the association.
AGM ON MAY 6, 2015
*To participate in the AGM you must be a paid-up member of Focus Art.
As a corporation, Focus Art holds its Annual General Assembly on Wednesday, May 6, at 7pm at le Centre Charles-Émile Claude.
STANDING TALL
An AGM is the occasion for members to voice their interest in the association. It is the meeting where the president presents the year?s activities to show how objectives have been met, the treasurer reviews the financial status and the Constitution is revised. It is also the occasion to elect the next Board of directors (10 members) from which the executive will be selected (President, vice-president, secretary, treasurer). Much is happening in the visual art scene. The Board members are not deaf to your comments. After business is complete, you are invited to participate in a panel discussion
It was great to see our colleague Marc Carrière voicing the needs of visual artists in Le Journal April 22. Marc, a painter and cut glass artist is offering his time at the TAG in an attempt to make the community aware that we have lost the CORRID?ART at le Centre culturel de Cornwall when le Centre was forced to move out of its space at 126 Anthony and relocate in a very small building on Montreal Road, that the TAG is definitely in jeopardy and exhibition are sporadic at best. To all volunteers who like Marc are dedicating their time to create a buzz about the benefits of all art and culture, Kudos!

TRY M Y 'NEW' A PPLE CRI SP RECI PE
I think my favourite oven baked dessert is an apple crisp. This past Sunday, I invented a new apple crisp. I used torn pieces of crystalized ginger slices and tart dried cherries along with my apples. What a wonderful combination. This is a 'keeper' recipe! I think you will
love it too! I always use oat flour instead of regular all-purpose flour in any fruit crisp. The oat flour is a sweeter and nuttier flavour and of course, goes perfectly with the rolled oats. Try this recipe! Note: we now carry bulk gluten-free rolled oats and oat flour at Sharyn's Pantry.
METHOD:
MY 'NEW' APPLE CRISP
- Butter the sides and bottom of a 9" X 13" baking pan. Set your oven to 350 degrees F. - Peel, core and slice enough apples (I used last falls MacIntosh apples I bought at Marlin's Orchards.) to cover a 2" layer of apples in the baking pan. - Over top of the apple slices, sprinkle the dried tart cherries and then the torn pieces of crystalized ginger. - Sprinkle over top of this some cinnamon sugar mixture to taste. Note, I was not using any brown sugar with the fruit. - Dot some butter here and there over the fruit. - Prepare the topping. Combine the oat flour and the brown sugar and Kosher salt. -Using a pastry blender, cut in the butter until it is in very small pieces, about 1/ 4" in size. - Stir in the rolled oats. - Evenly, spread the topping mixture over the fruit layer. - Bake the apple crisp for about 40 minutes or until the apples begin to bubble and the oat topping is a nice light golden brown in colour and your kitchen smells wonderful with the fragance of your apple crisp.
INGREDIENTS: (We carry all ingredients needed at my store, Sharyn's Pantry.) THE FRUIT LAYER: - peel and core and slice enough apples to have a 2" thickness of them in a buttered 9" X 13" baking pan - about 2/ 3 cup dried tart cherries - about 2/ 3 cup crystalized ginger slices, torn into bite-sized pieces - about 2 to 3 tsp. cinnamon sugar mixture (known as cinnamon toast blend) - 6 to 8 small chunks of butter (to dot on top of the fruit in the baking pan) THE TOPPING: - 1- 1/ 3 cups oat flour (Choose this tasty flour in all of your fruit crisps instead of using all-purpose flour.) - 1 cup of brown sugar, lightly packed - 1 tiny pinch of Kosher salt (about 1/ 8 tsp.) - 1/ 2 cup butter, cut in with a pastry blender - 1/ 2 cup organic quick-cooking rolled oats

SAUVE I sold my HOUSE, and someone said I have to declare a capital gain ? is this true? When you sell your home, you may realize a capital gain. If the property was your principal residence for every year you owned it, you do not have to report the sale on your income tax and benefit return. You may have a capital gain if: - at any time while you owned the home, you rented your home or a portion of your home to a tenant
- you own another residence that is not your principal residence (ie cottage) - your home was attained from a relative as part of an estate and was a rental property when you took ownership of the home Capital gains can be calculated by using Form T2091 on the Canada Revenue Agency?s website. You only need to file this form IF you have a capital gain. If you sold your home for less than what you paid for it and have a loss, you do not have to complete this form or report the sale on your tax return. For more tax tips, visit www.sauvetaxservices.ca

M O RREL Implementationfolders'' up to two inches wide. Part 4 of 5
5. Keep a supply of hanging files and manila folders on hand to add a folder as you come across a new subject.
Storing And Labelling Files With the right filing system, it?s easy to put your hands on the correct file right away. 1. Fill your file drawers with hanging folders. The hanging folders will never be removed, acting as storage space for the manila files, which you will remove from the drawer when you need to use them. 2. Write the name of the major categories on the hanging folder? tab. For subcategories use manila folders. Write the name of the file clearly using a pencil - in case you need to re-name folders. 3. For the major categories, starts inserting the tabs on the hanging folders ensuring you can easily see all the titles. Arranged alphabetical. As an example, under 'Finance'' put all the subjects' files related to that major category again alphabetically. 4. Place the manila folders into the hanging folders. Sometimes you can put up to five folders in one hanging file. For thick files, use ''box bottom
6. For files relating to a fiscal year, at the end of the year, remove all the folders, and put them away in a Banker Box. Use new manila folders with the same names and place them in the files, indicating on the tab the new fiscal year. 7. Go through the old folders to see if anything needs to be transfer to the current files. 8. Place the rest in your archive (basement or other storage area created especially for this purpose.) 9. Reminder: - Revise and update your file index every year. - Check individual files yearly, checking against your retention schedule - Discard files you no longer need, or give children their files when they leave home to start a life on their own (they will need their own files).

TRO TTIER/TRO TZIER COMPANION PLANTING Eco-conscious Earth Stewards who plant organic gardens do not need synthetic herbicides, insecticides, fertilizers. Because of the wisdoms passed on by our wise ancestors who for thousands of centuries have succeeded to produce plant crops to feed themselves, they have learned that companion planting promises a good harvest. The following list of which plant grows well with a companion plant can be very helpfull. It is also advisable tokeep a garden diary. Tomatoes, one of the most planted in a family garden, loves to have basil growing next to it. Due to its strong scent, basil helps to deter fruit flies and disease from attacking the tomato plants. Both enjoy a moist soil in the growing season. Avoid watering from above as this causes black spots on the leaves. Also, tomatoes do not tolerate smokers due to the high poisonous content of nicotine and carbon monoxide.p.s.: The geranium plants are known to actually begin to wilt when smokers are too often around them. Carrots are a favorite for those who have eyes and want to see the truths! Is this why so many people plant carrots? And to keep the carrots safe from the carrot rust fly, plant some onions who is going to protect its companion. Broccoli is so special and full of oxygen which we all need. To ensure a healthy crop, plant rosemary beside it. The rosemary can actually be planted in a clay pot so it can be taken inside during the winter and decorated as a tiny Christmas tree. The rosemary helps to repel the cabbage moth which is an arch enemy of broccoli.
Lettuce which is easy to grow and enjoys a moist soil can thrive when radishes are planted alongside of it. They like growing in partial shade with some cosmos, sunflowers, zinnias close to them. Cabbage - the gorgeous giant buds of sulphur and health-producing nutrients .... is perfectly matched when dill is growing next to it. While cabbage is stalked by worms and loopers, the dill scent can actually prevent these stalkers from showing up. In case they do, an effective home-spray can be used. Crush 1 garlic bulb and combine with 1 minced medium onion. Add 1 quart water and 1 tablespoon cayenne pepper. Allow to "stew" one hour and then add 1 tablespoon liquid dish soap. Pour the mixture into a spray bottle, and your non-toxic spray is ready to use. Store in the refrigerator. Beets - absolutely necessaryfor one's health and to purify the blood ... enjoy growing with mint around. Both tolerate some shade and a cool corner, with water often served. Mint wards of flea beetles and: rats and mice! Kale - the talk of the town since a couple of years. About 10 years ago when I was feeding my pet Bunny, Galaxy, some kale, it was rare that you heard people exclaiming what a great veggiekale was! Could Galaxy telepathically reminded all you people that kale is truly great for the eyes and for one's health?! And one of my favorite herb is dandelion which grows very protectively near kale. When this dandelion is free of toxic sprays, the leavesare perfect for your salads or cut up finely in an omelette. Meanwhile, since kale can be hounded by aphids, beetles, loopers, worms ... the dandelion can protect its companion, the kale. The above-noted home-spray can beused once a week when aphids and the other pests make their appearance. Roses - Plant heirloom only and they should be highly fragrant -these arethe two traits to look for before investing in roses. Many are sold these days that have the look of roses but have no fragrance and how disappointing that can be! Roses love to eat and feeding them bananas, coffee grind, broken egg shells, and other natural kitchen wastes is going to givethem such feelings of happiness. They enjoy such companions as garlic and parsley. The garlic helps to keep the aphids away. Then when they bloom, take a few and sprinkle their edible petals on your salads, deserts or just nibble them and take in all that greatly needed vitamin C. Back to Galaxy, my Bunny, he just loved nibbling away on the rose petals ... and was he ever healthy! The parsley contains lots of zinc which was transferred to the roses.

BAKER Hi to all of you wonderful and good looking people reading ~The Seeker~ this week. It is Cornwall's most read "REAL" paper that is full of information and positivity. There is even a five (5) day forcast done by the charismatic and oh so funny Johnny Radar. My! My! My! Mother Nature sure doesn't know what she wants to give us this season... She gives us some really nice sunny and warm days, and then throws some freezing rain and high winds at us throughout the rest of the week. Please do make up your mind this week and stay with the "sunnier side" of the weather. Thank you kindly in advance.
Well, ~CAPE~ Cornwall Area Pop Event was a HUGE SUCCESS!!! Kudos goes out to Carol Grant of (Carol Grant Productions) & Randy Sauve (of Fantasy Realm) for the fantastic job of getting everything and everyone together to make this tremendously fun-filled day happen. It went rather smoothly for all of the exhibitors (as John and I were there to represent our photography business ~Photo Dreams~) with the help of the many pleasant and very helpful volunteers and workers at ~The Benson Centre~ last Saturday. I heard that there were nearly 4,000 people who decided to come and see what CAPE~ was all about. Families, friends, neighbours of neighbours came by the thousands (literally) to buy merchandise and to see and enjoy all of the many different, costumed characters from Doctor Who, Star Wars, Anime, Ace Ventura, Batman, Superman, Spiderman, Wolverine, Van Helzing and many other comic characters that are too numerous to mention here. Do go and check out ~Cape~ on facebook to see the 100's of photos and videos in order to catch a glimpse of what this day was like. ~Photo Dreams~ will be having some of the many characers we photographed on our website under cosplay. It certainly was a long day for John and I, and my granddaughter, Abigail...(10 + hours) but, we got to see a lot of interesting people in and out of costume. We ended up photographing nearly 200 "costumers" that day... in which we offered "Free digital copies," so that they could have something to remember their wonderful day by. Abigail was dressed in a Doctor Who outfit that her mother had purchased from a professional doctor supply store in Ottawa, along with the red bow tie from a gentlemen's shop. She had an awesome and fun time asking

questions and handing out our business cards and meeting and greeting a lot of different people. Abigail even got to have her photos taken with the different characters and the props that were brought in from the Doctor Who series. I, too was thrilled and so excited having my photo taken with many choice characters that I liked... Especially Ace Ventura, Wolverine, Batman, Superman and Chewbaca, (Chewy from Star Wars.) All in all it went over very well and everyone I know and have talked to have said that they are looking forward to next year for another Cornwall Area Pop Event done by Randy Sauvee & Carol Grant !!! Thanks once again for this wonderful opportunity of showing what Cornwall has to offer to it's citizens and neighbours near and far. See you next year everybody!!! TIP OF THE WEEK: Are you aware that a 20 second ((HUG)) releases the bonding hormones and neurotransmitter oxytocins in your body??? It is Nature's "Natural" antidepressant and anti-anxiety hormone. So, if you are feeling down and out, or anxious just get someone you know and love, or like to give you a GREAT, BIG (((HUG))), or a whole lot of ((HUGS)) to help you feel better. It even helps the "Hugger" feel good, too. There is nothing nicer than receiving or giving ((HUGS))!!! So go and give a ((HUG)) or two, to someone you love today. FAMILY NEWS: My eldest grandson, Lincoln turned 17 last Wednesday (April 22nd) and my third daughter, Ella Rose is celebrating her 32nd Birthday today. May you have a wonderful kind of birthday today, Ella Rosey being with the ones you love and cherish and having a whole lot of FUN eating birthday cake, reading birthday cards and opening up lots and lots of presents!!! I hope you enjoy your new skateboard that your Mom and I got for you, Lincoln, plus all of the other presents that you recieved. My! My! You sure are getting old you two. (wink, wink.) UNTIL NEXT WEEK: A "Positive Person" isn't necessarily someone who has an "Easy Life". A Positive Person is Courageous, Assertive, and very Determined to make the Best of whatever Life has to offer. A Positive Person Is Always A WINNER!!! Be A WINNER!!! Be Positve and Share It With The Rest Of Your World!!! BTW... Could you please Go & VOTE for me, ~Positively Marlene~ at ~The Seeker~ for Contributor of the Year. Thank you kindly everyone in advance. Marlene Baker of www.fashionography.ca & www.photodreams.ca

Spring Clean-Up Week kicks off on Saturday, April 25th Hundreds of Cornwall residents will be joining together to help beautify their community next week as part of the annual Spring Clean-Up Week. The annual event encourages residents to show their community pride by forming a team and helping to clean a park, boulevard or other public space during the course of the week long event. As of Tuesday, 23 teams had already registered, and there are sure to be more teams that sign up prior to the event kick-off on Saturday, April 25th. Teams that register online are eligible to win some great prizes. ?This event is a great example of the community pride and spirit that exists in Cornwall,? said Mayor Leslie O?Shaughnessy. ?We all have a part to play in making our City look even better.? One team got a head start on the action. A group of employees from the St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation went out Tuesday and cleaned the Rotary Eco Gardens at the west end of Lamoureux Park. ?It?s nice to see the City and residents working together on this important cause,? said Nicole Robertson, Solid Waste Supervisor.
A kick-off event will be held on Saturday, April 25th from 9 am to 1 pm in the municipal parking lot on Montreal Road, next to the Cornwall Community Police Service east end station.
