JULIA LUCIO Fr ien dsh ip is ear n ed, n ot given I have very few people I consider "friends". In a world where the average facebook user has some 200 friends, this may come as a surprise. Friendship is something that is valuable to me, that I cherish, that I try to nurture. I also am not many people's friend. Friendship can be the most wonderful thing when based on trust, similarities, reciprocity. But nothing quite compare to the heartache of a broken friendship. I have a history of trusting the wrong people, investing time and emotions in relationships that only got me hurt, therefore, I have learned to be very careful where and on who I spend my energy.

word on her facebook status and next thing you know, 7 of her "friends" showed up to help. There are still some good Samaritans. But as they say, "A friend in need is a friend in deed." You can really tell who your true friends are when you're put in the pressure cooker. If they flee, if they belittle, if they talk about you to others behind your back, if they do anything but bend over backwards to help you, they are not your friend. I find that very few people are honest and true when it comes to doing things for one another. More often than not, there is an ulterior motive, a side angle. They want something from you. That's why communication is primordial. Friends talk to each other. They tell each other the good, the bad and the ugly. They say how they feel, but they do it in a loving way, in a constructive way. They say it because they want to see you succeed, not because they want to kick you when you're down. And you have to listen. Too many of us listen to respond, not to really understand. Be open minded, listen to the different points of view, determine if the goes is to better yourself or to destroy you. And please, don't use passive aggressive behaviour! Putting memes on facebook insinuating how you feel, hoping your friends will get the message is not the way to express yourself. If you value your friendship, say what you have to say! If you don't, that is a sure way to kill that friendship.

THE CORNWALL NATIONALS SIGN LOCALS INCLUDING JEFF LEGUE The Cornwall Nationals of the Federal Hockey League are coming through on a promise to stack their roster with local talent. General Manager Mitch Gagne has come to terms with three more players with local ties ? Joel Trottier, Tristen Elie and Jacob Dawson. Trottier is a 39-year-old forward from Alexandria who was drafted by the Boston Bruins in 1997. After graduating from the OHL, Trottier had pro stops in the AHL, ECHL, WCHL and LNAH. He also played one season in the Netherlands. Elie is a 20-year-old forward from Alexandria who will be a perfect fit for the FHL. He split the 2015-16 season with the Cornwall Colts and the Gatineau Olympiques of the QMJHL. In 41 games with the Olympiques, Elie had seven goals and 18 assists for 25 points. Dawson is a 24-year-old defenceman who played AAA in Quebec with the La Tuque Loups. The Nationals previously announced that forwards Jeff Legue, Lou Dickenson and defencemen Jason Lepine and Kris McCarthy have also come to terms with the FHL team. Season tickets are currently on sale and can be purchased at the Dangles and Dekes office, located at 812 Pitt Street, Unit 12. Prices are $290 for adults, $230 for seniors (60+) and students (13 to 18) and $115 for children 12 and under. The Nationals will play 26 home games and will have their home opener on Sunday, October 30th at 1 p.m. WALKING DEAD ZOMBIE ACTOR DON TEEMS GUEST AT CAPE ? For the third consecutive year CAPE (the Cornwall & Area Pop Event) will feature at least one actor from the popular AMC series The Walking Dead. Don Teems is an actor and DJ from Atlanta. Don Teems has worked on numerous projects and he is a regular member of the undead on AMC?s The Walking Dead portraying numerous walkers on Seasons 2, 3 and 4. Don Teems has also worked on The CW?s The Vampire Diaries and other various TV and movie projects including The Originals, The Following, Resurrection, Identity Thief, Flight, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (Film), Halt and Catch Fire, Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues and Dumb And Dumber To. Also appearing at CAPE with Don Teems are actors Sean Gunn and Chris Sullivan. Actor and writer Sean Gunn played the quirky character of Kirk Gleason on Gilmore Girls. He also played the character of Kraglin in Guardians of the Galaxy, and he will be reprising that role in the sequel. His resume includes roles on TV shows like Glee, Angel, and Third Rock from the Sun, and movies like Pearl Harbor. Chris Sullivan will grace the big screen alongside Peter Quill and his misfit gang of Ravagers as Taserface in Marvel?s much anticipated Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 coming to theaters in May 2017. He also appeared in the smash hit Netflix original series Stranger Things starring Winona

Ryder. CAPE will also be raising funs for Childhood Cancer Awareness. Now people attending CAPE or the the CAPE New Year?s Eve Party can be a hero too! $1 for every CAPE 2017 or CAPE 2016 New Years Eve Party ticket sold in the month of September will be donated to support Childhood Cancer Awareness (Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Support Programs). MPP JIM MCDONELL TO DEBATE MOTION FOR ONTARIO DRIVERS ? MPP Jim McDonell will stand up for all Ontario drivers this Thursday. During Private Members?Business time in the Legislature, he will call forward the following motion for debate: In the opinion of this House, the Ministry of Transportation should institute a five business day service guarantee for re-instating drivers?licenses suspended for medical reasons following certification by a physician that the person is fit to drive. ?Public safety concerns make it necessary to suspend a person?s license if a medical professional believes them to be unsafe on the road? MPP Jim McDonell explained. ?This process takes mere hours. Once a physician confirms the individual to be able to drive, however, the Ministry of Transportation reserves the right to sit on the file for 30 business days, or six weeks, before handing the license back. This is ridiculous and unjustifiable. If it takes hours to suspend a license on a physician?s advice, it should take less than a week to reinstate the license based on the same.? In order for the motion to pass, the Government needs to either abstain or vote in favour. ?The Government only listens when they know there is a province-wide backlash? MPP Jim McDonell commented. ?People in rural areas such as Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry depend on their driver?s license. They need it in order to work, attend medical appointments, get groceries, take care of their families and participate in community life. Our office has received constituents who were on the verge of losing their job because of this indefensible policy. Ontario doesn?t end at Toronto Transit?s last stop." CORNWALL COLTS UNBEATEN STREAK SNAPPED ? The Cornwall Colts suffered their first regulation loss this past weekend thanks to a 3-2 score in Carleton Place. Tanner Spink (2, 3) scored both Colts goals. Nick Lalonde chipped in with two assists. The Canadians outshot the Colts 36-23 with Liam Lascelle getting tagged with the loss despite making 33 saves. The Cornwall Colts record stands at 5-1-0-1 for 11 points. Cornwall is 2nd in the CCHL?s Robinson Division (and overall), one point behind Carleton Place. The Cornwall Colts lost 3-2 in a shootout in Kemptville on Friday. JD Pogue (4) and Grant Cooper (6) scored for the Colts. Liam Lascelle was stellar in goal as the Colts earned a point with the shootout loss.

Lascelle made 42 saves in the loss. Nick Lalonde currently sits 2nd in CCHL scoring with 14 points in 7 games while leading the league with 8 assists. Grant Cooper is 2nd in goals (6) and 3rd in points (11). Liam Lascelle is tied for 1st in wins (4) and is in 3rd place for save percentage (.942) and 4th overall in goals against average (1.81). IS YOUR CHILD?S IMMUNIZATION RECORD UP TO DATE? The Eastern Ontario Health Unit (EOHU) is reminding parents of the importance of updating their children?s immunization record before the start of the school year. By law, proof of immunization is required for all children who are enrolled in schools or licensed daycares. Incomplete or missing records could delay or prevent a child?s attendance at school or daycare. Ontario?s Immunization of School Pupils Act (ISPA) was created to protect children from vaccine-preventable diseases, and to reduce the risk of disease outbreaks in schools and daycares. According to the ISPA, parents are required to provide the EOHU with proof of their child?s immunization against certain diseases, or with the appropriate exemption documents if the child is not immunized. The ISPA also requires the EOHU to review immunization records and contact parents of children for whom they do not have complete records. Without proof or proper documentation, parents may receive a letter from the EOHU and their child could be suspended from school or daycare until their immunization records are complete. ClĂŠroux adds that if parents aren?t sure whether their child?s immunization record is up to date, the EOHU can review their child?s record with them. To report that your child has received a vaccine, or to inquire about the status of your child?s immunization record, call the Eastern Ontario Health Unit at 613-933-1375 or 1 800 267-7120 and ask for Health Line. NEW APPLICATION ROUND FOR ONTARIO RENOVATES PROGRAM BEGINS - A new application round is underway for Ontario Renovates, a popular home improvement program in Cornwall and the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry. This new application round aims to assist priority groups. As such, it will target low and modest income youth (18-25) and seniors (55+) or individuals requiring accessibility modifications. Through Ontario Renovates, eligible homeowners can receive funding for urgent home repairs as well as modifications to make their homes more accessible. Since the program launched in 2012, approximately 350 homeowners in Cornwall and SDG have received assistance. ?We are very pleased with the Provincial and Federal government announcement with respect to housing investments under the 2016 Social Infrastructure Fund (SIF). Part of that announcement includes additional funds for the very successful Ontario Renovates Program,? said Mellissa Morgan, Community Housing Supervisor. ?With this funding, there are also identified priority groups that we must target which include seniors, youth and individuals requiring accessibility modifications. As in the past, the ultimate goal is to help residents stay in their homes longer.?

I nter view by M a i-Liis Renaud This week I wa s ta lking to my good fr iend Dr . The honest answ er , I suppose, is guilt. Having been pr acticing in Cor nw all now for over 8 year s, I've seen the m asses of over w eight people w ho stand idly by and yet often have no idea of how to get star ted w ith a tr ue blue, tr ied and tested pr otocol that WORKS! They know they need to lose w eight but get a pitiful gam eplan pr ovided by their health pr ofessional as to how to go about it. Th at 's w hy st ar t i n g n ex t Tu esday at 7pm (an d ever y Tu esday f ol l ow i n g t h at ) I 'l l be of f er i n g a FREE (n o pr essu r e) i n f or m at i on w or k sh op of h ow t o r egai n you r h eal t h t h r ou gh t h i s syst em .

Note that this w eight loss pr ogr am is only 42 days long as is pr iced less than 90% of the w eight loss system s out ther e. I'd also state that Chir othin is not your "r un of the m ill" fad w eight loss diet. It's a "doctor super vised" w eight loss pr ogr am that is based on tr ied and tested scientific m ethods that have been applied since the 1930s. The biggest differ ence w ith this pr ogr am is that, unlike ever y other system out ther e, ther e's NO EXERCI SE REQUI RED, NO SHAKES an d NO PRE PACKAGED FOODS. Having been in the healthcar e industr y for over tw enty year s now , I've seen countless people com e thr ough my door s in Cor nw all and M ontr eal that have tr ied this diet or that diet and per haps lose the w eight initially but only to r egain it all plus inter est.

2. How does t h i s pr ogr am w or k ? In shor t, chir othin is a liquid for m ula containing ingr edients that ar e w ell know n to aid in fatty acid tr anspor tation, fatty acid m etabolism , blood sugar stabilization, incr easing one's m etabolism and detoxification. W hen com bined w ith a ver y low calor ic diet that involves specific am ounts and blends of low glycem ic index, anti-inflam m ator y inflam m ator y foods, the body w ill be m or e efficient at conver ting its stor ed fat into ener gy. To sum it up, the Chir oThin pr ogr am consists of being a liquid taken sublingually that is m ade of am ino acids, cell salts and vitam ins and has attained appr oval by Health Canada (unlike m ost w eight loss system s that have no such endor sem ent by the gover nm ent).

3. W h at set s t h i s w ei gh t l oss pr ogr am m e apar t f r om ot h er w ei gh t -l oss pr ogr am s? Well, unlike low er gr ade pr oducts, shakes or pr e-packaged foods, you w ill not find this pr oduct being sold online or by other com panies. We have w or ked w ith our team to cr eate only top-shelf nutr itional dietar y supplem ents. NO ingr edients ar e im por ted fr om over seas. The for m ula has

m any advantages, like added natur al appetite suppr essants, ener gy supplem ents, lean m uscle pr otection, and m or e. Patients fr equently r epor t that they feel m uch better and have less hunger issues w hile taking the Chir othin for m ula than they did w hen they follow ed other w eight loss diets. Fur ther m or e, w ith Chir othin ther e ar e NO HORM ONES used in the m anufactur ing pr ocess nor contained in the finished pr oduct. Ther e ar e no contr aindications for anyone on m edications to be on the Chir othin pr otocol. The exceptions ar e people w ith gall bladder issues, people having "active cancer " in the system and w om en w ho ar e pr egnant and/or br eastfeeding.

4. I h ear t h er e ar e gr eat ben ef i t s f or cer t ai n con di t i on s, eg. Di abet es. Pl ease el abor at e an d w h at ot h er con di t i on s can gr eat l y ben ef i t ? Well not "all", but m ost of today's health conditions can be tr aced back to the fact that w e, as a society, have becom e sedentar y due to the advances of com puter s and the invention of car s, etc. Obesity is often r esponsible for type 2 diabetes, for exam ple, as w ell as car diac conditions (w hich is the num ber one killer in our society). M any studies have linked w eight loss to blood sugar self r egulation to lengthen our lives and people have often r epor ted no longer being r equir ed to ingest dr ugs diabetic m edications like m etaphor m in, januvia.

5. I s Ch i r ot h i n saf e f or bot h m en an d w om en ? YES, and not only is it safe for both m en and w om en but childr en w ith w eight issues can safely utilize the Chir othin pr oduct as w ell.

An d t h e bi g bon u s qu est i on i s: How m u ch w ei gh t can I ex pect t o l ose w h i l e on t h i s pr ogr am m e? The pr otocol, or cycle if you pr efer , is a six w eek (42 day) w indow of tim e. Results w ill var y som ew hat fr om per son to per son, factor s such as genetics, how m uch "excess w eight" one per son has to lose com par ed to the next, sm oker s vs non sm oker s, etc. In or der to "lead by exam ple", I myself did the Chir othin pr ogr am and note that I've w eighed betw een 285 and 300 lbs for the last 20 year s. W hen I star ted the pr ocess I w eighed in at 291 lbs and got dow n to 263. I'm star ting another cycle shor tly as my per sonal goal w eight is to be 240lbs. Tha nk you Dr . Paul for a ll this info a nd we wish you a ll the best with launching this new pr oduct!!!

TEA BI SCUI TS A ND CI NNA M ON CURRA NT PI NWHEELS

Yesterday at my store, I was pleased to talk with Marilyn Kaneb, a great cook, a retired CCVS Home Ec. teacher and an old friend. I was telling her that she would be remembered by her students for what she had taught them in her Home Ec.classes. In grades 7 and 8 at Central Public, I had Miss Graham teaching me Home Ec. We learned the basics in baking: plain muffins and tea biscuits. The proper way to measure dry and liquid ingredients and the water displacement method to measure bulk lard or shortening. We were taught how to make a bed with mitred corners and sewed our very own apron to wear. I still have it! She called each female student 'Girlee'. I use the skills she taught us to this day! A silent prayer and thank you Miss Graham for being a memorable teacher from your grateful student. My recipe for you this week is for a basic tea biscuit and a variation I made from them into cinnamon and currant pinwheels. Have a great week!

BASIC TEA BISCUITS (This recipe comes from "The Guide to Good Cooking Cookbook" put out by the 5 Roses Flour Co.)

METHOD: continued

TIPS FOR THE LIGHTEST TEA BISCUITS:

-Turn out the dough onto a floured work surface and gently knead the

-Your dough should be soft but not sticky. Kneading will improve the quality of the biscuit and promotes a tall, plump and tender biscuit. Knead with a tender and light touch. Too much handling will give you a tough tea biscuit. -Baking your biscuits in a HOT oven, at 450 degrees F. A perfectly baked biscuit will be slightly moist, tender, light and flaky. -Serve your biscuits right from the oven. They are best eaten the same day as baking.

dough for a few minutes. Roll out the dough or pat it out to about 1/ 2" in thickness.

INGREDIENTS: (this recipe makes 15 to 18 biscuits) 2 cups of unbleached all-purpose flour 4 level tsp. baking powder 1 level tsp. fine salt 1/ 4 cup Crisco shortening

-Using a 2" round biscuit cutter, cut out the tea biscuits and place them on the parchment lined baking sheet. Bake them for 12 to 15 minutes. Serve hot from the oven and ENJOY!

VARIATION:

CINNAMON AND BROWN SUGAR AND CURRANT PINWHEELS

METHOD: -Set your oven to 450 degrees F. Line your baking sheet with a piece of parchment paper. -Sift or whisk together the flour, baking powder and salt.

(This makes 12 quite large pinwheels.)

-Make the same recipe as for the tea biscuits. Your oven is the same at 450 degrees F. Roll out the dough to 1/ 3" thickness and -Cut in the Crisco shortening with a pastry blender until the spread this completely to cover with softened butter. Then sprinkle this shortening is the size of coarse cornmeal. with a mixture of about 1 cup of brown sugar mixed with 2 tsp. ground -Make a well in the centre of the dry ingredients and pour in the milk. cinnamon. Then sprinkle this with about 1 cup of dried currants. Roll this up Mix this in quickly until the dough comes away from the sides of the lenghwise and cut into 12 equal slices. mixing bowl. I use a dough scraper to do this. That way I don't handle -Place the cut slices on a parchment lined baking sheet and bake the the tender dough. pinwheels for 12 to 15 minutes. ENJOY!

When Things Go Wrong

BURKE

So, has anyone done that Windows 10 anniversary update yet? Word on the street is "Don't". Why is that? Well, there have been reports that peripherals and components that were previously supported are no longer once the update has been done. That isn't entirely Microsoft's fault. Various device manufacturers don't always update their drivers, so Microsoft has to develop their own. These drivers may not be 100% correct, so it is possible for some devices to fail. The good news is that most very recent, commercial computers that have Windows 10 installed should work fine with the new drivers. The problems that may develop will most likely be with things like web cams, printers and other peripherals. The various manufacturers, it they still provide active support for their products, should have updated drivers released over the next few months. If you really want the anniversary update, you could mirror your hard drive and try it out. Simply restore from the mirrored drive if something goes wrong.

A hot topic recently has been batteries. The Note 7 has been the most recent victim of faulty batteries. It isn't Samsung that is at fault here, although they will have to deal with the fallout. Unfortunately, one of the manufacturers that produce the batteries for the Note 7 seems to have had some defect in the batteries. The internal structure of the battery is such that there is normally a barrier between the lithium ion and graphite materials, and the electrical output is finely controlled as the device is used. However, if there is a breakdown in this barrier due to a manufacturing defect, the electrolyte - which is highly flammable can be ignited by the rapid discharge between the lithium and graphite. If you take a non-defective LI battery and stab it with a sharp object, you can make it burst into flame. That is why LI batteries typically have warnings marked on them not to do that. The good news is that Samsung has shipped more than 500,000 replacement phones and has issued a software update that can alert the user if the installed battery is one of the suspected defects. While things can go wrong with technology, the affected manufacturers will usually respond quickly and appropriately to solve the problem.

7 Amusement Parks, 6 Cit ies in 30 Days Part 3 - Cit ies

Article & Photos Julia Lucio

San Ant onio

Road trips offer the flexibility to do more. On our travels, we were fortunate enough to experience 6 of the most wonderful cities in North America. We've seen and done so much!

San Antonio is home, so I didn?t really contact the tourism board for anything. I have my own tourism board there: family.

Chicago

San Antonio is definitely one of the most beautiful U.S. Cities there is. Part of the charm comes from the Spanish style of architecture that you will find downtown and or course, the 2.5-mile-long River Walk. The breathtaking canal, with its taxi boats and gondolas, along with the many restaurants and nightclubs, really makes you feel like you?re in another country. The Alamo is a must see. The site, where a pivotal battle in the Texas revolution took place, offers a wealth of informational and historical facts.

Chicago is one of the biggest U.S Cities and is located in Illinois, on Lake Michigan. Unfortunately, our attempt to contact the tourism board as unsuccessful and we resorted to online resources to plan our visit.

San Antonio is home to many museums and parks. Some attractions to see include the zoo, the children?s museum, Perseal Park where you can skateboard, hike, exercise or play, Six Flags and Seaworld.

We quickly found out that purchasing a City Pass (www.citypass.com) would be greatly beneficial as it provides discounted access to many of the city?s most notable attractions. $98 will give you access to VIP entry to the Shedd Aquarium, a fast past to Skydeck Chicago, VIP entry to the Field Museum, your choice between entrance to the Museum of Science and Industry or the 360 CHICAGO and your choice between entry to the Adler Planetarium or the Art Institute of Chicago. To be noted, the Art Institute of Chicago has been voted # 1 museum in the world by TripAdvisor in 2014 and is well worth seeing.

With too many restaurant options to count, San Antonio is a foodie?s paradise. If you visit, try the local chains Taco Cabana and Whataburger. You also have to check out the Sushi. It?s massive. And grab yourself some Big Red, a local soda that tastes like no other.

Traveling is definitely an educational experience for the kids. It forms them. It molds them. It opens their eyes to different ethnicities and cultures. It turns them into caring individuals who respect the world around them. Here are the six cities we visited aboard the Troublesome Trailer.

At l ant ic cit y Oh Atlantic City! With its beautiful beaches and its many casinos, it?s a paradise for young and old alike. The tourism board of AC was probably the most helpful of all tourism boards we contacted. This is a touristy place and these people get it? We were guided to campgrounds, food option and attractions and even provided with a media pass to visit several places.

St . Louis Who has never seen the Iconic St. Louis? Gateway Arch! It is a 630-foot stainless steel monument located on the west bank of the Mississippi River and is the world?s tallest arch. City Pass does not offer booklets for St. Louis, but you can find a variety of websites that do similar things and offer discounted Beautiful Montreal pricing for several attractions. One of them is http:/ / www.familyattractionscard.com/ . The St. Louis tourism board was extremely helpful and recommended restaurants and accommodations. They found us a great campground located minutes away from the Six Flags. While in St. Louis, you may want to visit one of the many museums or go to the zoo. If you are traveling as a family, take the kids to the magic house, an interactive children?s museum that lets kids sit at the President?s of the United States desk in the Oval Office--well, a replica of it, and has a gazillion things to stimulate your child?s imagination. You can also check out the many local breweries, walk down the Delmar Loop for shopping or a bite or catch a show at the live theater.

Dal l as The peeps at the tourism board of Dallas were kind enough to provide us with City Passes for some of Dallas?main attractions. We did the Geo Deck Reunion Tower and got a 360 view of the city while eating chips and queso and enjoying a cold beer on a hot day. The tower is very interactive with touch screen kiosks and very informative, giving info on the city?s landmarks. Oh and observation deck offers free binocular viewing! Included in our city passes were the botanical garden, the zoo, the georges W. Bush museum and the perot museum. The zoo is definitely the one to do if you have kids, otherwise, the JFK could be the most interesting. The attractions are geared more towards adult, but it was fun nonetheless.

The Boardwalk is definitely the main attraction to see. It dates back to 1870 and offers a variety of shopping, dining and accommodations on top, of course, of the many casinos. Visit the Steel Pier, a pier that extends 1000 feet into the ocean and on which you?ll find an amusement park and restaurants. On the Boardwalk, we dined at the LandShark Bar & Grill, a cozy restaurant featuring a lovely terrace, breathtaking ocean views and live entertainment. Of course, being on the ocean allows for many water-based activities. Visit the aquarium or get wet by going parasailing, fishing or boating. You could also simply relax by visiting one of the many spas.

Mont real Yes, although Montreal is practically local, it is also a very fun city to take on. And it?s right in our backyard! There is much to see and much to do in this one-of-a-kind, European flavored metropolis, but today, I will focus on the touristy areas of Old Montreal and its Old Port. Over the last 10 years, the Old Port has really developed into a hub where you can do a wide variety of cool things in one location. Take a cruise, visit the shops, rent a pedal boat or a bicycle, chill on the beach, go to the spa, try a zipline or even catch an IMAX show. All that and more can be done in one visit. Then, grab something to eat at one of the many restaurants located in Old Montreal, specifically on St. Paul Street, and put down some brews while listening to live music at ?Les Deux Pierrots?, a local folk landmark that?s been there for over 40 years. Hoping this has given you the taste to travel with a camper as a family, no matter how troublesome the trailer is...

A Piece of Hist ory Un-eart hed Monday afternoon Richelieu Day Care staff helped the SD&G Historical Society staff to dust off the above High School mast, which a construction crew unearthed revealing some Cornwall history. The staff at the City-run facility on York Street wondered if the Society knew which high school previously sat at their present location. Having recently documented that history, we were ready with an answer and some photos. In 1925 the Presentation Brothers staffed the newly built Gonzaga Boys' High School on Third Street West at the corner of York Street. The Brothers lived right next door to Gonzaga. The Presentation Brothers were already in Cornwall, having arrived from Ireland in the Autumn of 1913 to help staff St. Columban's Boys' School / Centre Ward School. Gonzaga was built as Cornwall's first English Catholic Boys' High School. It should not be confused with a Francophone school in the east end with a similar name which opened three years later.

The former Gonzaga school foundation straddles the property line between what is now the day care centre on York Street and townhouses on Third. In 1936 the Brothers continued with the school even though it transitioned to an elementary school to alleviate some of the overflow at Centre Ward School. In June of 1959 the religious community withdrew its services, viewing the new Ontario teacher qualifying process as a needless expense since they were already highly educated. Some returned to Ireland while others moved to Quebec. Until 1944, Catholic schools were built and maintained by the parishes. The parish and school students with staff held fundraisers to help with expenses. At the time, Religious were paid a fraction of the salary earned by their Public School teacher counterparts.

To ever y angel that the w or ld w as lucky enough to m eet, thank you.

Gonzaga elementary school closed in the late 1960s and the day care centre opened in 1972.

A construction crew unearthed the Gonzaga High School mast along with fence posts, radiators, a urinal and some bottles. The facility is undergoing an upgrade to its yards, installing outdoor drinking fountains and associated drainage along the south edge of their property, breaching the old west wall foundation.

toddler carriers! These are carriers designed for older children, aged about 2 years and up, that commonly start around 20 pounds and go to 50 or 60 pounds. Why wear a child this old? Because of many reasons. Maybe you have a child with special needs, who often runs, or needs that special close bond a little more. This would allow you to put them up when needed, or allow them to walk when they want to or are able to. It also is a great alternative to strollers for kids who might just need a break for 10 or 15 minutes when on a long stroll at the park, or who are tired after swimming or running around.

VALADE Babywearing, Part 2 Welcome back! This is a continuation of my previous week's article on babywearing, or the use of infant and toddler carriers.

We covered a few types of carriers last time, but there is also a few others! There is a carrier that is called the mei tai, that is a carrier you tie around your waist, insert child into, then tie over the shoulder. This is a popular choice for early back carries, or for breastfeeding newborns too. The half buckle tai has a buckle waist and tie strap shoulder straps. The Onbu have only shoulder straps. The pouch sling, such as a Hot Sling or Seven Sling is a great diaper bag or car sotred back up carrier, what is like the ring sling without the rings. It is just one simple peice of fabric, hemmed and cut to make a seat or pouch in one side. These types of carriers can be used once baby is sitting unassisted and are great for short shopping trips or the walk into the house. I could go on for awhile!

#1

#2

The Cradle Carry, where baby is laying down in the carrier, should only ever be done while nursing, with extreme attention paid to the infant. Having baby straight up is much more comfortable for them and prevents the hazard of chin to chest, what can cause breathing to be difficult if not impossible. Having them sit in a natural position, with knees above the bum in an ?m? position is also best. This keeps the natural curve of the spine, doesn't put strain on the hips and doesn't throw off your own centre of gravity or pull away from you. You should not use a soft-structured carrier for a back carry until the child can sit unassisted, because they do not have strong enough torso muscles. Back carrying before this in a woven wrap or mei tai should only be done after much practice, and much confidence, after you've mastered how to do a front carry first. And starting with a spotter, near a soft surface is best advised. You can also get

There is a myth that narrow-based carrier cause hip issues. This is true only when the child is predisposed to such issues, either from birth, development or family history. That being said, there are for sure many more comfortable carriers for you and baby. There is also a myth that walking makes a baby walk late. You know what? This is so far from true. So please do not let this stop you. My now 5 year old daughter walked at 9 months old. My twins, who were born premature, walked at 10 and 12 months old. My son, who is now 8, walked at almost 13 months old. My 8 year old was worn less then any of my other children after him. (This is of course because I had no idea what I was doing in terms of baby carriers back then!) Babywearing also helps strengthen the torso and neck muscles in infants, the same way ?tummy time? would, so it's a great alternative for those babies who just want to scream instead of play during those periods. It also allows the baby to see and hear what you do, and allows more face to face interaction while still having them close and your hands free.

Always be sure to read the manual and familiarize yourself with the carrier before use. Check buckles often for breaks or strains. Check over wraps often for holes or severe pulls in the threads. Have more questions or want to learn more about babywearing? Check out our facebook group, Babywearing Cornwall Ontario, or visit my website, www.darol ot t ys.ca. There is no one carrier that fits every person, so try on a few, borrow something, find what carrier or carriers work best and fit best for you and your child or children.

DEALING WITH A FINANCIALLY IRRESPONSIBLE SPOUSE/ PARTNER Part 1 of 2

Have a Heart t o Heart Conversat ion

We?ve all heard that the primary cause of divorce/ separation is financial irresponsibility. It takes more than love to keep a relationship intact, and unfortunately, many people do not realize that until it?s too late. Living as a couple requires communication and honesty, as well as the knowledge that your life is no longer solely about yourself. Consequently, any financial pitfalls made by your spouse/ partner will likely revert back on you. If you find yourself in a position in which your spouse/ partner is not upholding his/ her end of the financial bargain, there are some steps you can take to deal with this dilemma. Here is what you should consider:

Get t o Know His/ Her Finances Bef ore You Move in Toget her For many married or living common law people, hindsight is 20/ 20, and plenty wish they had done some research prior to tying the knot/ moving in together. While some believe a prenuptial agreement is the antithesis of romance, it can allow both parties to air their financial history openly. This is a great saf et y net f or bot h individual s. Even if you choose not to get a prenup, though, talking with one another, pulling each other?s credit history or seeking financial counselling before getting together will help you get to

If a previous credit check had not been done bef ore now is the time to check each other?s histories and evaluate where you both stand. Also, it?s a good idea to try to get at the heart of why your spouse/ part ner is behaving so irresponsibl y wit h money. Were he or she never taught how to properly handle finances, or are his/ her spending habits compensating for something else?

Once you have moved in together and you realize your spouse/ partner is financially irresponsible, it?s important to nip it in t he bud as soon as possibl e. This means you?ll need to sit your spouse/ partner down and be as open and honest as possible. Let it be known that lying about finances and money will not be tolerated in your relationship
