EXFOLIER EXFOLIATE

Le savon noir est un produit émollient à appliquer juste avant le gommage, ou pendant. Il assouplit et ramollit l’épiderme, et le prépare ainsi au gommage. Le savon noir est généralement à base d’huile d’olive (additionnée éventuellement d’autres huiles végétales), ce qui lui confère une couleur brune plus ou moins foncée. Sa texture est plutôt molle: il est donc facile d’enduire la peau de cette pâte onctueuse. Appliquer sur le corps, laisser pauser 5 minutes, puis procéder au gommage sans rincer au préalable. Pour le gommage, vous n’avez que l’embarras du choix entre les différents gants et fibres végétales exfoliantes. Gant Kessa en crêpe noir, Gant de chanvre, Pelote de sisal, le Loofah d’Egypte. Choisissez celui qui vous convient le mieux : ils sont plus ou moins doux et astringeants.

The soap is an emollient product to be applied just before or during the exfoliation. It relaxes and softens the skin, and thus prepares the scrub. The soap is generally based on olive oil (optionally supplemented with other vegetable oils), which gives it a brown color more or less dark. The texture is rather soft, so it is easy to coat the skin of this paste. Apply to body, leaving to stand 5 minutes, then proceed to scrub without rinsing first. For the exfoliation, you only have to choose among different exfoliating gloves, rough and plant fibers. Kessa glove in black crepe, hemp glove, Ball of sisal, Loofah Egypt. Pour accompagner les gestes quotidiens du bain et de la détente, il est de tradition d’utiliser une Fouta après le bain ou le hammam. Sa légèreté et ses qualités absorbantes en font aussi le compagnon du voyageur modernes, s'adaptant selon les besoins en serviette, paréo, drap de massage… Elle sèche rapidement et se plie facilement dans un sac. Le tissage à plat ou en nid d’abeille est réalisé à partir de coton certifié biologique GOTS et les teintures sont certifiées exemptes de métaux lourds.

PURIFY

Le Rhassoul est également un produit emblématique du hammam : cette argile originaire du Maroc a des vertus purifiantes, absorbantes et dégraissantes. Elle assainit les peaux grasses et les cuirs chevelus gras, limite la sécrétion de sébum, absorbe les impuretés, et resserre les pores. On l’utilise sur le corps ou les cheveux, ainsi que sur le visage si vous n’avez toutefois pas la peau sèche. Le Rhassoul s’applique comme une crème lavante : on enduit la peau, on frotte doucement à la main, puis on rince. On peut aussi en faire un masque. The futas collections are manufactured in South India, in the state of Tamil Nadu, by a semi-artisanal weaving unit with whom Karawan develops its exclusive organic cotton collections. Mr. Visu employ thirty people in working conditions, wages and regulations in conformity with ILO standards. The traditional looms stand a longside spinning mills. To support this family business, orders are 50% pre-financed by Karawan-authentic.

Le Rhassoul est une argile saponifère, très riche en minéraux, extraite de l’Atlas marocain, destiné aux soins du corps et du cheveu. Il nettoie en douceur et en profondeur, équilibre la sécrétion de sébum, gomme les cellules mortes, tout en respectant le film hydrolipidique. Il donne brillance et volume aux cheveux.

The Rhassoul is a soap clay, very rich in minerals and extracted from the Moroccan Atlas mountains, aimed at body and hair care. It is used like a washing cream, or as a mask for the skin and the hair. It cleanses softly and deeply, balances the secretion of sebum, exfoliates dead cells, all whilst respecting the hydrolipid film. It gives brilliance and volume to hair.

La pelote est crochetée à la main, avec de la fibre végétale de Sisal extraite des feuille d’un cactus de la famille des Agaves. Très résistant, le sisal permet un gommage vigoureux après un enveloppement au Rhassoul afin d’éliminer les impuretés et de retrouver une peau lisse qui respire. On l’utilise aussi en massage circulaire associée au savon pour activer la circulation dans les jambes. Cette friction prépare aussi la peau à la dépilation.

The ball is crocheted by hand, with Sisal plant fiber extracted from the leaves of a cactus of the family Agaves. Very resistant, the sisal allows a vigorous scrub after a Rhassoul wrap to remove the impurities and to find a smooth skin that breathes. It is also used in circular massage associated with soap to activate circulation in the legs. This friction also prepares the skin for depilation.

Karawan est engagée depuis plus de 7 ans avec une organisation de développement local indien. Elle rassemble environ 200 métiers à tisser manuels répartis dans les maisons de villages aux alentours de Calcutta. La majorité des artisans sont des femmes, de la filature au tissage. Ce savoir-faire est ancestral et chaque foyer possède un métier à tisser qui a sa part entière dans la vie quotidienne de la maison. Nous développons nos collections avec Shubha, jeune indienne imprégnée des racines et de l’excellence de la tradition du textile indien. Elle connait toutes les étapes de la fabrication et coordonne la qualité de nos propositions dans la perspective de maintenir la tradition mais aussi de la faire évoluer en l’adaptant à nos créations. Résolument engagés dans une démarche de développement durable qui tente de résister face à l’industrie textile de masse et de faire reconnaître la qualité du tissage manuel, ainsi que la valeur culturelle des modes de vie qui y sont attachés, nous recherchons ensemble des matières premières naturelles, respectueuses de l’homme et de l’environnement.

WEAVER PARTNERSHIP AT KOLKATA, INDIA Since seven years, Karawan has been involved in a partnership with an organization supporting local development around Kolkata. This organization gathers about two hundred manual handlooms situated in the homes of the villages. From spinning to weaving, most of the craftpersons are women. Their weaving skill is ancient, this is why every home owns a handloom which is fully integrated into the daily life. We design our collection with Shubha, a young Indian woman who has been raised in the roots and the excellence of the Indian textile tradition. She masters every steps of the process. So, she can manage the quality of our creations, preserving the weaving tradition but also being able to make it evolve in order to adapt it to the Karawan design if needed. We at Karawan are firmly focusing on co- and sustainable development, trying to resist to the massive textile industry and aiming at valorizing the high quality of hand weaving as well as the cultural value of the ways of life which are linked to these skills. In this respect, together with our partner, we search and select natural raw materials, good for mankind and the environment. The 2017-2018 Chess collection from Karawan is the perfect outcome of this partnership: it combines linen, organic cotton and jute, designed creatively to match with the four seasons. The jute comes from West Bengal where this natural fiber is grown for all India and the world. This thread, which shows a natural gold colour, adds an authentic and creative touch to these scarves or sarongs. The mix of the three natural fibers enables an exceptional and very comfortable tissue “fall”.

la soie “de la paix“ La soie sauvage appelée Eri, vient de “erinda”, le nom hindi du ricin dont se nourrit son papillon. Le cocon est naturellement ouvert pour la métamorphose de la chenille. La soie est donc récoltée de façon non violente, sans tuer la chrysalide, et est ainsi utilisée par de nombreux moines bouddhistes. L’artisanat de très haute qualité associe le travail des éleveurs, des femmes qui filent la soie et des artisans tisseurs sur métiers à main dans l’extrême nord-est de l’Inde. La finesse de la soie Eri et la technique artisanale de tissage offre une grande variété de tissage depuis les plus fins jusqu’aux plus épais.

THE “PEACEFUL” SILK Natural wild silk called Eri, from Erinda the hindi name for ricin which feeds the moth. The cocoon is naturally spinned open-ended by the silkworm to ease the metamorphosis. The silk can then be collected peacefully, without killing the chrysalis, which makes it used by numerous buddhist monks. The highly qualitative handcraft production combines the works of tribal silkworm rearers, women yarn makers and handloom weavers in far north-eastern of India. The Eri silk finesse together with the handcraft weaving techniques enable various types of scarves from the finest to the thickest.

Tissé au Népal, avec la laine cachemire du duvet délicat des chèvres des hauts plateaux, le pashmina en cachemire est une étoffe des plus précieuses. Parce qu’elle est exceptionnellement chaude, douce, fine, souple, légère, elle accompagne les 4 saisons. Karawan développe une filière avec un atelier artisanal qui sélectionne la laine et utilise exclusivement les couleurs naturelles. Une gamme de 4 coloris intemporels et unisexes : Ivoire, Taupe, Gris argent et Anthracite. Franges ouvertes.

Woven in Nepal with the cashmere wool of the delicate down goats from the high plateaus, the cashmere pashmina is one of the most precious fabrics. Being exceptionally warm, soft, light, it can be used for all four seasons. Karawan developed this range with a trade workshop which selects the wool and exclusively uses natural colours. A colour scale of 4 timeless and unisex colours: ivory/ anthracite / silver grey / chiné taupe.

Nous concevons leur développement à partir d’une compréhension des ressources et des contraintes d’unités artisanales à forte valeur sociale et culturelle, qui sont fragilisées par la globalisation ou l’indus trialisation de l’économie. Notre démarche s’applique à toutes les étapes de la filière, de la collecte de matières premières jusqu’à la distribution du produit fini (choix des matières premières, processus de transformation, transport doux, distribution, sous-traitance, etc.). Elle engage des choix d’ent reprise où le local et le global sont articulés vers une recherche de cohérence entre les dimensions culturelles, économiques, environnementales.

Meeting and listening are the source of all our products. We develop their design from an understanding of the resources and constraints of small-scale units with high social and cultural value which are weakened by globalization and industrialization of the economy. Our approach applies to all stages of the process, from the collection of raw materials to the distribution of finished product (raw material selection, process transformation, green transport, distribution, outsourcing, etc.). It incurs choice of business where the local and global are linked to a search for coherence between the cultural, economical and environmental dimensions.

Karawan supports the producers for a high quality and a further innovation, often in partnership with NGOs and local governmental institutions. Our choices are directed to the production whose processes integrate sustainable development criteria, or are able to do so. Our work contributes to the development and transmission of traditional knowledge. The prices are fair. The payment of raw materials and labor are made at the order.

Nos choix de design renforcent le secteur économique des fibres naturelles et de la récupération. Notre gamme cosmétique est entièrement naturelle ou certifiée biologique*. Les ingrédients sont des actifs végétaux, des argiles ou des sels rigoureusement sélectionnés pour leurs réelles propriétés. Les étiquettes affichent avec transparence la totalité des ingrédients de nos compositions. Nous veillons à la légèreté et au recyclage des matériaux d’emballage issus de forêts gérées durablement. Nos transports par voies maritimes et fluviales limitent l’impact carbone.

Only natural materials, organic or recycled associated with ecological processes are composing into our products. Our design choices enhance the economic sector of natural fibers and recycled materials. Our cosmetic range is completely natural or certified organic*. The ingredients are plant extracts, clays or salts rigorously selected for their real properties. Labels displayed with transparency all the ingredients of our compositions. We ensure lightness and recycling of packaging materials from sustainably managed forests. Our transports by sea and inland waterway limit the carbon footprint.

Sur les Routes de la Soie... On the Silk Routes…

Les hommes de tout temps se sont déplacés et ont commercé avec les peuples voisins. Ces échanges, en s’intensifiant depuis la Haute Antiquité, ont dessiné plusieurs voies de communication reliant l’Europe et le continent asiatique. Le voyage s’effectue le plus souvent en faisant étapes dans les caravansérails. Ces vastes bâtiments construits spécifiquement pour abriter les caravanes, ont inspiré le nom de Karawan authentic.

Men, at all times have travelled and traded with neighbouring people. Since the Classical Antiquity, those exchanges have been growing and have created several communication paths connecting Europe to the Asian continent. Usually the trip was done in stages stopping in caravanserail. Those huge buildings, built specifically to shelter the caravans, gave inspiration to the name Karawan authentic.
