A HELLO BARK

a hello bark from the news editor

HEY KEY CLUBBERS, Hope your summer has been going spectacular so far! As you can probably tell, I’ve been making changes to the design of my newsletters to create a more sleek and consistent design. Hopefully you can see the progress I’ve made from my first newsletter to this one. I’ll continue to work hard as your Bulletin Editor to create newsletters that bring us closer together as a family as we reminisce over the memories we’ve made together. In this issue you can read about our D35W OTC which was an absolutely amazing learning experience for both officers and members. Moreover, featured in this newsletter you can see how we won the SPIRIT STICK at the REGION 13 PICNIC! WOOOOOO! Sadly, summer is almost over and we’ll be back to school in a month. Instead of sitting around and hoping summer doesn’t come to an end (which sadly, it will), GET OUT THERE AND HAVE SOME FUN! Make the most of your summer break before we get our heads in the books again! Enjoy the rest of your summer and I can’t wait to see all you seals at the upcoming service events!

FINDING

LEADERS

just keep serving...

This summer I went to my first Officer Training Conference and I gotta say, it was a blast. Our division secretary Rebecca Nhan asked me to host the secretary workshop with her and it was a great experience. Not only did I get to explain to others about the task of a secretary, I also learned a few new things myself. I attended three workshops and I found them all to be extremely informational. Another thing I enjoyed

about this OTC was how I met so many new people through icebreakers. I think Dylan did a fantastic job putting this together because I’m positive everyone took home NEWFOUND LEADERSHIP SKILLS. This Officer Training Conference clearly made us members into better leaders and stronger officers. It was also another opportunity for Division 35 West to bond and establish connections with one another.

REGION PICN

In a nutshell, Region Picnic was an amazing event on multiple levels! Spend- “The fact that ALL Key Club meming time with not only my division but bers...get to have fun at this event with new unfamiliar faces was just one is just SOMETHING ONE WOULDN’T factor that made me consider this as ONE SEE ELSEWHERE” OF MY FAVORITE MEMORIES in my Key Club career so far. The fact that all ing! We all tested our spirit level by having Key Club members, both underclassmen intense spirit battles with the other great and upperclassmen, get to have fun at this divisions! It was very hot outside, but that event is just something one wouldn’t see elsewhere. In addition to meeting new peo- did not stop us from HEATING UP our spirit! SHOUTOUT TO JOSHUA TONG ple, I had lots of fun creating a promotion video, preparing for Region Picnic with my for staying up until 5 A.M to create a Seal Flag that projected lots of Seal Love for our cabinet, and creating closer Division. After all the practices led by our amazbonds with my current friends. ing Spirit Task Coordinators, Gina and DaEven if this was vid, and with the leadership of Dylan Tran, my first time, I our LTG, we were able to win the Spirit Stick for Region Picnic! It was hard to bereally enjoyed my time there! lieve that we won, because we were able to see the other divisions practice hard, so it We did many icebreak- was a very close call (What can I say? HOO HAH WE’RE THE BEST. HOO HAH WE’RE ers within our 35 WEST). I believe that if we keep up the group with good work, we will be able to win the spirit Region 13’s LTGs, who were stick at Fall Rally as well! Seals, KEEP UP THE AMAZING WORK! Remember to stay very friendly and entertainhumble!

REGION PICNIC

NIC experience How did you feel after winning the SPIRIT STICK?

Being able to win the spirit stick is one of the best memories that key club has given me! It was an amazing feeling to see so many other members of D35West come together in order to win that spirit stick. The mass of people that gathered together was enough to make me speechless, but when everyone became ONE VOICE I was more than just awestruck. I simply can’t come close to describing the amount of RAW ENERGY that was running through all the divisions. Everyone was so synchronized as we all tried desperately to be able to take that stick home. I’m hoping that we will be able to win once again at Fall Rally, perhaps this is a sign of VICTORIES TO COME?

cleanup

On July 2nd, an Emerald Necklace Cleanup was held at the Mulhall Elementary/Jeff Seymour Center. Emerald Necklace is an organization established to preserve and protect parks. From 9:00 in the morning to 12:00 PM, Key Clubbers spent the time to beautify the area. At this particular cleanup, volunteers got down and dirty as they took out weeds, mulched, and painted the buildings. -Katie Kyan| Sophomore| Bulletin Editor

4TH OF JULY PARADE

FOURTH of JULY parade

On July 4th 2016, I walked onto Steimetz Park at 7:01 a.m. I was so tired and had no idea which activities we would be doing; first we set up for the parade, shaping the trashcans and putting them everywhere. The most enjoyable thing we did was being able to watch the parade itself after setting up the chairs, trash cans, etc. IT WAS AMAZING FROM THE CHEERLEADERS, TO THE HORSES, TO THE VETERANS THEMSELVES. It was the most memorable part of the 4th of July parade because, the veterans were able to march carrying flags, shouting with all their hearts, saying phrases to stay in unison, while those who were airborne sat together in a unique type of car waving toward an eager audience. Everybody from as far as you can see stopped what they were doing and clapped for each soldier. That was the most memorable and my favorite scenery of today.

-Jazmine Heredia| Senior| Member

My favorite part of the Fourth of July parade was being able to REUNITE WITH MY FRIENDS from D35W, D35E, and KIWIN’S. I also made new friends with people from our division. On top of that, I enjoyed watching children play and giving out prizes to them. I was able to become closer to my friends and people who I did not expect to be friends with. Today was such a great day and I can’t wait for next year’s Fourth of July parade.

FIREWORKS STAND

FIREWORKS stand

The fireworks stand held at the Walmart Shopping Center was run by our Kiwanis. Volunteers helped to sell fireworks for Fourth of July and raised money. “THE MOST MEMORABLE PART WAS HOLDING A SIGN AND HANGING WITH FRIENDS” said Selena Thai. Key Clubbers held signs to publicize the stand and attract more potential buyers. -Katie Kyan| Sophomore| Bulletin Editor

NIGHT NATION RUN

NIGHT NATION running music festival RUN Night Nation Run was a 5k running event with over 10,000 attendees! I was able to be one of the lucky volunteers to work in the merchandise booth with my partner Michelle Hong and 2 others. From 5-9, we had hundreds of people pour in buying items for a good cause. The aftermath resulted in some dancing, eating, and hanging out with other key clubbers! -David Lam| Senior| Historian
