President Letter
Dear Neighbors, During the past several months, the Roselle Park Board and staff have been busy preparing for the future. In addition to developing and adopting an operating budget for FY 2013-14, the District has adopted a multi-year Capital Improvements Plan that projects future anticipated revenue and future capital needs. Some capital expenditures are necessary to maintain what we collectively own, such as: • • • •
Replacing equipment and vehicles. Maintaining our walking/biking paths and parking lots. We own a lot of asphalt. Maintaining our buildings and other facilities. Replacement of playgrounds.
This spring and later in FY 2013-14 you will see the following improvements: • • • • •
Replacement of the damaged portion of the gym floor at the Clauss Recreation Center and resurfacing the entire floor. Replacement of the deteriorating fall-surface tiles at the Turner Park Playground and the addition of some new amenities at the Splash Pad. Replacement of the 2005 ADA accessible van. Refurbishing of Valley Park, contingent upon neighborhood need and input. Resurfacing of the basketball courts at Turner and Kemmerling Parks.
Major new improvements that are on the drawing boards: • The addition of batting cages at the Clauss Recreation Center. By installing batting cages, the District will be able to provide a new service to its residents, and area baseball/softball participants and should be able to develop a new revenue source for the District. • Replacement of the building in Turner Park. This is anticipated in FY 2017-18. The existing building was moved to Turner Park by the developer of the Buttonwood Subdivision and given to the Park District. It served as the District’s administrative quarters until 1992. Today, it is basically unused except for the mechanical equipment in the basement for the Splash Pad and for storage. The building is not ADA compliant and is not conducive to any recreation programming. This summer the building will receive an inexpensive cosmetic facelift so it will not detract from the park and the neighborhood and so it will be secure. Over the next four to five years, funds will be accumulated and a grant will be sought to permit demolition of the building and the construction of a new structure that will provide new space that can be used for recreation programming and for community uses like birthday parties, showers, family reunions and the like. We are very proud of our staff at Kemmerling Pool! Kemmerling Pool received a 5-Star overall rating for the 2012 season from SAI, one of the largest lifeguard, swim instructor and pool operator certifying agencies in the United States. Facilities receive three un-announced visits from reviewers who observe and evaluate the staff and facility in three areas: Prevention and Surveillance, Response and Rescue, and Facility Operations and Environment. “Very few aquatic facilities qualify to receive this honor,” SAI President Leslie Donavan said. “It represents a tremendous commitment to safety and training, and exceptional performance by the lifeguard staff on duty at the time.”
BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS Glenn Spachman President
In today’s financial climate, it is difficult to obtain grant money; however, the Roselle Park District recently received a grant in the amount of $32,000 from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity to install new energy saving lighting fixtures at the Clauss Recreation Center and the District’s maintenance garage. The District’s cost was $9,000. It is estimated the new lighting will save the District $12,000 per year.
Roberta Borrino Vice President
In closing, since I will be stepping down at the end of my term in April, I would like to extend my appreciation to the citizens of the Roselle Park District for allowing me to serve as a Park District Commissioner for the past twelve years. It has been an honor and a privilege to provide and to advance the programs and facilities of the Park District. In accordance with its mission statement, I am sure the Roselle Park District will continue to promote and provide responsive recreational programs that provide the opportunity for Fun, Fitness, and the Development of Skills for all. May you always enjoy our parks, playgrounds, facilities and programs!

KEMMERLING POOL | 400 S. PROSPECT AVE., ROSELLE, ILLINOIS 60172 | POOL HOTLINE: 630.893.0939
Roselle Swim School Your child will gain confidence and swimming skills that will prepare them for swim team or simply keep you at ease when at the pool. This program focuses on a progression of water skills that increases your child’s confidence in the water as they continue in the program. The class is designed to challenge each swimmer to reach their full potential. Upon completion, each participant will receive a certificate of achievement. Age ranges are suggested. Skills listed are requirements to pass the level. Registration deadline for each session is the Saturday before the session starts at 2 pm. In the event of thunder and lightning, staff will hold an optional safety day in the locker room. Please call the weather hotline at 630-671-9261 to check status of lesson. Lesson will still be held in cool temperatures and/ or precipitation as long as no lightning is detected. • Due to the limited amount of space surrounding the pool, parents and other spectators will be permitted to sit in lounge chairs on the edge of the zero depth pool and in the concession area only. • There will be no make up lessons scheduled for participants that fail to come to their regularly scheduled lesson. In order to ensure low ratios, quality lessons and instructor availability, participants must attend the time slot that they have registered for. • All refund requests must be made at least two business days before the first lesson of a session. Please note that there will be no refunds issued after the session has begun. Any refund requested with two or more business days notice, prior to the first lesson will receive a full refund, less $5 for administrative costs.

Registering before the July 15 early-bird deadline does not necessarily guarantee a spot on a team due to minimum/maximum numbers established to form a team. The number of teams competing this fall out of the Roselle Park District is to be submitted to league officials early August for scheduling purposes. Registrations will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis. Take advantage of our early-bird sign-up fee of $53 by registering before July 15. All registrations submitted from July 15 on will be charged an additional $10 and, again, players cannot be guaranteed a spot on a team.
The Roselle Park District would like to recognize the following Roselle Raptors, Youth, and Rookies Basketball Leagues volunteer coaches for their contributions this past season: Mike Harris, John Mensik, Jerry Krokos, Marco Notardonato, Dan Graham, Kevin Curry, Tom Canale, Andy Rinaldi, Justin De Luca, Michael Rehbock, B.J. Perez, Gregg DeWaele, Mike Patton, Pat Rochford, Jim Rapala, Mike Drugan, Frank Gulik, Tim Carlson, and Stan Czaja.
Take advantage of the Early Bird Rate! Sign up by July 14
Please indicate on enrollment form if you would be able to manage a team. Also, please ase let our front desk staff know if you would be interested in coaching. They will make note of this in our computer registration software. If you are not familiar with the game of soccer, don’t worry, we can teach you everything you need to know. Age of a child as of August 1, 2013, will determine at what level he/she will be eligible to play this fall. For example: the “U” (as in U8 Division) indicates child must be under the age of eight as of August 1, 2013, to participate in that level. If nine years old as of August 1, 2013, child should be enrolled in U(under)10 division. FEE: R $63/NR $73 CLASS MIN/MAX: 1/130 LOC: Soccer Fields ID# 123110-A 123110-B 123110-C 123110-D 123110-E

School of Dance
Class Descriptions (AB) ACRO
Acro dance is a style of dance that combines classical technique with precision acrobatic elements. It is defined by its athletic character and its unique choreography, which blends dance and acrobatics. This class focuses on tumbling and flexibility in a dance context. Elements introduced and practiced include cartwheels, back bends, walk overs, chest stands, and aerials. Students will also learn proper stretching technique.
CREATIVE MOVEMENT
Introduction of dance begins here. Children are taught dance through a variety of familiar children’s songs. Basic ballet/tap technique and terminology is covered. Props are incorporated with this class to build interest for the young dancer. Class respect and socialization is highlighted. A little ballerina is about to be born!
HIP HOP
JAZZ
Class will consist of stretching, center warm ups, isolations, jazz progressions and turns, (center and across the floor.) Jazz combinations will be incorporated. All styles of jazz from competition dance to concert dance will be taught.
LYRICAL
Lyrical Dance is one of the most popular, most noted styles of dance, within the dance community. Lyrical combines techniques of classical ballet, jazz and adagio. It allows the dancer freedom of expression and movement cutting between the graceful, yet powerful forms of all three dance disciplines noted above. The dance combines jumps, turns and various series of combinations. Much feeling encompasses this form of dance and requires ballet technique, as always, to attack this fun and exciting style. Lyrical has become a necessary part of dance training today. It is not to be confused with modern dance.
Funky, fun and athletic, Hip Hop is a separate discipline of dance. Free-formed and derived from its street history, it’s a lot of pop and lock, filled with sharp percussive moves and a certain gymnastic quality. Loved from the serious dancer to the recreational dancer, cheerleading and poms, incorporate this in their routines. Class will consist of center warm ups, center core strengthening, and jammin center combinations. Come prepared to have fun.
COMBINATION CLASSES
These classes provide beginning dancers a broader sampling of dance by combining two disciplines. Instructors will emphasize positions, posture, body line, flexibility, and isolations. Students will participate in warm-up exercises, across the floor progressions and combinations, as well as other skills. Through combination classes, students will also increase their strength, style, and rhythm.
BALLET/TAP COMBOS
Class instruction will be tailored to fit the level of the class placement. Proper ballet and tap technique and terminology will be taught. Barre, center and across floor combinations will be included.
BALLET/JAZZ COMBOS
Class instruction will be structured to fit the level of class that you are enrolled in. Ballet and Jazz technique and terminology will be taught and include barre, center and across floor combination.
JAZZ/HIP HOP
This class combines jazz with innovative hip-hop dancing. Students will learn rhythm and coordination through jazz progressions and turns as well as age-appropriate hip hop choreography with no suggestive music/movements. They will also explore basic beats and musical styles while learning coordination, flexibility, and expression through dancing.

Core & More (AB,LH) AGES 18 and up
Spinning (AB,LH) AGES 18 and up
Strength training has been proved to benefit all populations, from adolescent athletes to seniors. Women, in particular, see tremendous benefits from strength training. Traditionally, women rely on cardiovascular activity and a low calorie diet to change their physical appearance. Unfortunately, low calorie diets merely punish the soul and decrease the metabolism. Without including consistent strength training in our program, effecting change can be an impossible goal. This class will combine strength training, yoga, and Pilates exercises. Please bring a mat to class.
Cycling is an exciting way to work out! The workout is designed to enable all individuals to participate in a group exercise class with emphasis on individual performance. A typical class may consist of going up and down hills, climbs, sprints, or visualizing riding around a neighborhood or up a mountain. Spinning is a fun and effective exercise challenge and a great way to lose body fat. Please bring a towel and plenty of water.
This class is a lighter, low impact class designed for those just beginning an exercise program, or for someone who has taken a break from classes. You’ll begin the class with a nice and easy warm-up to awaken your muscles. Resistance training follows the cardio portion of class. Summer 2013
In accordance with the Recreation Department policy, all program participants must sign a hold-harmless agreement prior to participation in department sponsored programs. The waivers are on the bottom portion of program registration forms, designated sign-in sheets, and fitness membership applications. These must be signed by the adult participating in an adult program; and by the parent or legal guardian of participant under 18.
Include Payment & Sign Waiver/Release
Please note that you need to include full payment and a signed waiver and release for your form to be processed. Credit card payments require an additional signature to authorize payment. For these reasons, we are unable to accept phone-in registrations.
In Case of an Error
Complete details of program policies, procedures and guidelines are sometimes omitted from the program brochures because of space limitations. Also, errors in days, times, registration requirements and fees may occur as well. We apologize for any errors that may appear in the brochure. We thank you for your patience and understanding when these situations arise.
Program Room and Area Locations Sometimes Move Around!
Program locations are subject to change. Roselle Park District staff reserves the right to make changes to room/area locations if deemed necessary for the participation and safety of all our registrants and programs. This type of flexibility is necessary to ensure that all planned program sessions can meet and activities can go as planned.
Register Early
Nothing ruins a good program quicker than everyone waiting until the last minute to register for it. There is a point where if there aren’t enough registrants to hold the program, it is cancelled. Coming in the day of, or the day before the program won’t resurrect it. Please register at least a week early to avoid disappointment.

Residency
Not all Roselle residents are Roselle Park District residents. Even though you may have a Roselle address, you may pay taxes to another park district. Therefore, proof of residency is required when registering for programs for the first time. This may be done with a driver’s license, utility bill, (or a mortgage statement for those who are recently moving to the area). Roselle Park District residents support the district through property tax contributions and therefore these residents have first priority in the registration process each program period.
Non Resident Fees
Unless specified by a particular program, the non-resident program fee is an additional $10 or 50% of the regular fee, whichever is less. This does not apply to facility rentals. For all facility rentals, Clauss Recreation Center, or Turner Park, there is a consistent $25 increase for non-residents in addition to the stated resident fees.
Wait List Process
A wait list is formed when a class reaches participant levels beyond the maximum. The wait list is designed to maintain interested people in a holding area until more spaces in the program are available, someone drops out, transfers, or a new section is added by park district staff based on interest. The wait list is maintained based on the order we process registrations. Customers will be contacted for confirmation before being added to one of our wait lists (or transferred from a wait list into the desired program) by the front desk or specific program supervisor. Please note: before a participant is transferred into a program all corresponding paperwork and payments are required.
What About Insurance?
The Roselle Park District does not provide medical coverage for injuries suffered while participating in park district programs, or while using park facilities. The Park District, therefore, cannot assume responsibility for personal injury for persons participating in a recreation program or using facilities. Patrons are advised to make provisions for this coverage in their own personal insurance program.
What If I Have A Special Need?
Participants who require special assistance during park district programs should note their needs on the registration form and call (630) 894-4200 to notify the park district. The Western Dupage Special Recreation Association may be contacted at (630) 6810962 for additional services. Please note: there is a box to check on our program registration form to alert our Front Desk Attendants and Recreation Supervisors that these services are desired for any given program.
Refund Policy
The Roselle Park District endorses a customer satisfaction policy and strives to provide high quality programs, services, and facilities. However, sometimes expectation levels or situations occur that do not meet the satisfaction of our customers and a refund request is made. If for any reason you are requesting a refund, please contact the Park District at (630) 894-4200 or come by in person to submit a request.
