PRESIDENT’S LETTER | COMMISSIONERS | DID YOU KNOW YOU CAN NOW REGISTER ONLINE FOR MOST CLASSES
President’s Letter Dear Neighbors, As we approach the fall and winter seasons, we would hope you have noticed the improvements that have been made throughout the Roselle Park District this summer. The Park Board and the staff closely monitor the financial condition of the Park District. The district’s healthy budget is the result of years spent planning and collaborating to ensure the best uses of our tax funds, and also to find alternate sources of revenue, most notably, state grants. Recently, the Roselle Park District was fortunate to receive a grant in the amount of $57,000 from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. This is the second summer this grant has been available and it enabled us to employee 17 local youth between the ages of 16 and 18 from July through September. The State got the program going two weeks earlier this year and our staff was poised to hit the ground running…most of the hires were done in three days! We immediately had these teens busy weeding, replacing mulch, and helping with our extremely successful summer camp and aquatic programs. Our Camp Laugh A Lot grew to average 82 kids per day, but we were still able to ensure a low camper to staff ratio. All these extra hands help to better stretch the District’s budget to serve more residents. We are awaiting word on another large grant we submitted to the State of Illinois for the refurbishment of the Turner Park Building. This PARC grant opportunity has been on and off the State’s budget radar, but appears to be back on for now. Staff have worked with our legislators to keep our project in the running. While the building is in serious need of repair to be usable as needed program space, waiting on this possible grant money will provide the residents of Roselle more “bang for the buck.” Plans include beautiful meeting and program spaces that take advantage of the view of the water. Stay tuned! With much of the outdoor work being taken care of by our youth corps, District staff has been able to turn their attention to completing other projects. Clauss Recreation Center’s recently reconfigured front desk now provides ADA access for patrons, and more efficient work and storage space for staff. The parking lot was re-paved as part of a long term preventative maintenance plan that covers the entire park system. Finally, the long-awaited upgrade of Valley Park has brought smiles to nearby residents as kids from all around try out the new equipment. The reason Valley Park had taken so long to be addressed is that the District did apply for various grants to help pay for some or all of the project. Its close proximity to Clauss and the playground there, was given as the reason we were not successful. So we did what fiscally conservative home owners do – we saved up and spent the money we could afford to provide best outcome. While finances are extremely vital, successful park districts are about much more: fun and fitness… and let’s throw in a little technology, too! • To make it easier to take advantage of our programs, download our new online registration mobile app available for both iPhone and android. • Join our Roselle Park District Fitbit Challenge – prizes awarded quarterly. • Check out the new screen in the front lobby that provides all sorts of useful program information updated automatically from our recreation software. This summer saw our first production by the Roselle Repertoire: High School Musical – with two shows performed at Lake Park West auditorium on July 19. The success of our dance program made the next step to musical theatre an obvious choice. Plans are in the works for several shows per year. You’ll also see some more changes take place as we repurpose our Clauss nursery into a multi-use space for cultural arts to accommodate this exciting new growth.

Dog Obedience (DC) Wednesdays, Sept. 17 - Dec. 3 All Canines
Canine 5k (DC) Saturday, September 20 ALL AGES
Does your dog take you for a walk? Run away when you call him? Only the most effective up to date methods are used for fast and reliable results. Understanding dog behaviors is just as important as the mechanics. This course is designed to educate the public on being responsible dog owners and to recognize and control problems before they become unmanageable. You will teach your dog heel, sit, down, stay, stand for veterinary exam, and come when called. You will see improvement immediately following the first session and thereafter in working with your dog for only 30 min per day. The first class is mandatory and without your dog. All dogs participating are required to be up to date on immunizations (rabies, parvo, and distemper) and a negative stool sample checked no more than two weeks prior to the first class. Dogs must be 4 months or older and handlers 12 and older are welcome with an adult. Don’t blame ‘em, simply train ‘em! For more information contact Roc Solid Obedience www.r-solid. com 630-665-7382 Session II information is located on page 00
Grab your leash, some treats, and your adorable, loveable, drooling, four-legged doggy friend and come on over to the paths at Turner Park! We will be hosting a Canine 5k! With water bowls and treat stations throughout the course your dog will love strutting their stuff. Don’t think your dog can complete a 5k, or your dog is more of the couch potato type, or not the outside and active type, don’t worry, each dog will get a treat bag just for participating! This is one tail-waggin’ walk in the park you don’t want to miss! Don’t forget to bring the family and a bag to bring home all your treats. If inclement weather, the event will be cancelled.

Be it our in-house soccer and basketball leagues, or Raptors travel basketball teams, volunteer coaches are a valuable ingredient in our youth athletic programs. Without caring moms and dads from the community, giving of their time and effort, we would not be able to offer these types of activities. They understand the valuable lessons of participation, teamwork, character, and sportsmanship. The Roselle Park District feels these long-term principles are paramount and cannot be shoved aside in order to achieve short-term “victories.” If you are a “first timer,” we offer clinics and an on-line coach’s certification program for those interested in this fun and rewarding opportunity. Please call Vic Orlandino at 630-8944200 for details.

AGES 8-15 | DANCE COMPANY AUDITION PREP, SOLOS, DUETS AND TRIOS | TRY SOMETHING NEW THE SEASON
Dance Company Dance Company (DC) September-May AGES 8-15 Dance Company is an accelerated program at the Roselle Park District for the more serious dance student. It is a step forward for the dancer who wishes to demonstrate more dedication to dance, thus having additional dance performance opportunities throughout the community and surrounding area. Most students desiring to be in this program are interested in a more intensive curriculum. Dance Company allows students to be a member of a dance team to form bonds and friendships which create memories that will last a lifetime. This program is a commitment from September 2014-May 2015, which includes approximately 30 weeks of class, for a total of 90 hours of technique instruction. Placement in competitive dance routines is based on the dancer’s skills, technique, dedication, and overall performance at auditions in August, and all decisions are solely up to the discretion of the Dance Company Instructor and Supervisor. Every dancer participating in Dance Company will be required to take an hour long jazz technique class and an hour long ballet class, and an hour long leaps and turns class in addition to an hour long choreography class for EACH routine they are placed in. Tuesday class will be an hour of ballet and 30 minutes of leaps and turns. Thursday class will be an hour of jazz with 30 minutes of leaps and turns. Saturday classes will be choreography classes for small group routines. No choreography will be taught in Tuesday and Thursday classes. Each dancer must be committed 100% to dance company which meets on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and on Saturdays (time depends on routines the dancer is placed in) Dancers should exhibit a good work ethic, a commitment to learn, and a positive attitude. Dancers are required to meet for all classes and should not miss more than a total of 3 classes. If there are excessive absences or more than the allotted 3 absences, the dancer is required to purchase and take private lessons to make-up for their time lost in class. Missing class can lead to routines being pulled from competition. Any classes missed two weeks prior to a show, performance, or competition will require a the dancer to purchase and take a private lesson. This is a competitive dance team, and dedication to the art of dance is essential, and attendance is important to the development of the team as well as the growth of the dancer. Dancers and parents are required to sign a commitment 34 and enrollment contract at the time of registration.
Dance Company Costumes and Competitions All Dance Company costume costs, competition cost, jackets, and rhinestoning are separate from class registration fees. Costumes are to be paid for prior to costume orders in October and competitions are to be paid for prior to attending competitions. Information will be given out during the season.

Fitness W.O.W Women on Weights (DD) AGES 16 and up Strength training has been proven to benefit all populations, from adolescent athletes to seniors. Women, in particular, see tremendous benefits from strength training. Traditionally, women relied on cardiovascular activity and a low calorie diet to change their physical appearance. Unfortu-nately, low calorie diets merely punish the soul and decrease the metabolism. Without including consistent strength training in our program, ef-fecting change can be an impossible goal. Strength training is absolutely essential if we wish to create visual changes in our bodies, and we’ve discovered that the benefits of strength training extend far beyond the visual. In Case of an Error
Complete details of program policies, procedures and guidelines are sometimes omitted from the program brochures because of space limitations. Also, errors in days, times, registration requirements and fees may occur as well. We apologize for any errors that may appear in the brochure. We thank you for your patience and understanding when these situations arise.
Program Room and Area Locations Sometimes Move Around!
Program locations are subject to change. Roselle Park District staff reserves the right to make changes to room/area locations if deemed necessary for the participation and safety of all our registrants and programs. This type of flexibility is necessary to ensure that all planned program sessions can meet and activities can go as planned.
Register Early
Nothing ruins a good program quicker than everyone waiting until the last minute to register for it. There is a point where if there aren’t enough registrants to hold the program, it is cancelled. Coming in the day of, or the day before the program won’t resurrect it. Please register at least a week early to avoid disappointment.

REGISTRATION INFORMATION | 555 W. BRYN MAWR AVE. ROSELLE, ILLINOIS | (P) 630.894.4200 | (F) 630.894.5610
Residency
Not all Roselle residents are Roselle Park District residents. Even though you may have a Roselle address, you may pay taxes to another park district. Therefore, proof of residency is required when registering for programs for the first time. This may be done with a driver’s license, utility bill, (or a mortgage statement for those who are recently moving to the area). Roselle Park District residents support the district through property tax contributions.
Non Resident Fees
Unless specified by a particular program, the non-resident program fee is an additional $10 or 50% of the regular fee, whichever is less. This does not apply to facility rentals. For all facility rentals, Clauss Recreation Center, or Turner Park, there is a consistent $25 increase for non-residents in addition to the stated resident fees.
Wait List Process
A wait list is formed when a class reaches participant levels beyond the maximum. The wait list is designed to maintain interested people in a holding area until more spaces in the program are available, someone drops out, transfers, or a new section is added by park district staff based on interest. The wait list is maintained based on the order we process registrations. Customers will be contacted for confirmation before being added to one of our wait lists (or transferred from a wait list into the desired program) by the front desk or specific program supervisor. Please note: before a participant is transferred into a program all corresponding paperwork and payments are required.
