President Letter ROSELLE PARK DISTRICT
555 W. Bryn Mawr Ave., Roselle, Illinois 60172 (P) 630.894-4200 (F) 630.894.5610
Dear Neighbors, It was a great summer in Roselle’s parks! We hope you enjoyed one of our program activities in our parks, enjoyed a dip in Kemmerling pool, or just enjoyed a quiet stroll along one of our many paths.
BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
Some of the programs we offered could not have been a success without the contributions of our sponsors and volunteers. While many people volunteer their time as managers and coaches, Garden Club members, or spectators, we would like to give special recognition to the following for their active support of the Roselle Park District and the greater Roselle community:
Roberta Borrino Vice President
Harris Bank Roselle for sponsoring “Bounce Back to School”. Many students and parents shared a beautiful warm evening at Turner Park enjoying games and inflatables prior to the start of school Have you ever seen so many inflatables in one place ?!! THANK YOU HARRIS BANK ROSELLE! This event replaced National Night Out and hopefully we can do it again in the future.
Katherine Spencer Commissioner
Glenn Spachman President
David Hansen Treasurer
Jeffrey Peto Commissioner
The Roselle Lions Club for providing the free food/refreshments for “Bounce Back to School”. The Taste of Roselle Committee for sponsoring our series of “Summer in the Park Concerts”. Roselle Racers, who celebrated their 40th anniversary providing competitive swimming opportunities to a large number of local swimmers. The Roselle Racers are built on a strong group of parents and other volunteers who work many hours throughout the year to ensure swim events and training are organized, safe, and fun-filled. Thank you to all who volunteer with the Roselle Racers and to all who support the Roselle Racers financially. RMSBO (Roselle Medinah Softball & Baseball Organization) for providing over 700 children an opportunity to play ball. The coaches, managers, and organizers spend countless hours throughout the year to make sure the Roselle/Medinah community has an organized, safe, and fun-filled activity for our children. Thank you to all who volunteer with RMSBO and to all who support RMSBO financially. The Roselle community and the Roselle Park District are blessed to have so many volunteers, service clubs, and businesses who support recreation programs for our children. They help us to fulfill our mission statement to “provide the opportunity for fun, fitness, and development of skills for all”. Our staff continues to explore new program offerings. If you would like to see a program added, a program changed, or believe a program is not meeting your needs, let us hear from you. In this brochure, look for the following new and old offerings: • Hockey tournament at Turner Pond • Annual “Bags Tournament” • Ping pong • Trip to the Auto Show • Chicago Black Hawks trip – GO Hawks! Regarding Turner Pond, no one knows what the winter will bring, but we are planning to provide skating again (as long as the ice is solid). It was a big hit last winter. This winter we plan to have the skating area lighted at night. Many thanks go out to Fulton Technology Inc, The Taste of Roselle Committee, and the Lions Club for makeing this possible. If you haven’t already looked in the attic or basement for your old skates, plan to do so for some winter fun. Glenn Spachman President

There is a greater variety of experiences to promote interest in the community and the world outside the student’s own. There are more concentrated fine motor skills such as writing letters and numbers, cutting, gluing, painting, and using manipulatives. There are many opportunities for making choices, developing problem solving skills, becoming independent thinkers, and developing confidence. Children also have visitors and go on field trips to enrich their studies of various themes.

What is Geocaching you ask? Geocaching uses handheld GPS units to find hidden “caches” in your neighborhood or out on local trails. These caches are containers of all sizes that may be camouflaged to blend into their surroundings. Inside the cache will be, at a minimum, a logbook to sign to prove you found the cache and sometimes even hidden treasures. If you love the outdoors, it is only natural to want to explore and learn about its’ wonders. Geocaching offers you a great way to do just that. It’s a high-tech treasure hunt that can help engage your kids in the natural world. WHO: Ages 5-16 MIN/MAX: 6/14

CLASSICAL BALLET: Regarded as the most disciplined forms of dance. Ballet is the foundation for all other dance disciplines. Class consists of barre, across floor technique and center combinations. Leaps and turns will be covered along with proper dance terminology.
CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
JAZZ: Class will consist of stretching, center warm ups, isolations, jazz progressions and turns, (center and across the floor.) Jazz combinations will be incorporated. All styles of jazz from competition dance to concert dance will be taught.
MUSICAL THEATER: Musical Theater is a discipline of dance that is in a category of its own. It can be a combination of various styles of dance to fit the music and or musical theme. It is fun, upbeat and sometimes can be a great class for the student who wishes to be a “Triple Threat,” in theater. Often noted at an audition as “Dancers that Dance and Singers that Move.” It can be anything from the basic jazz square to something much more technical. Most performers who are singers and or actors will highly benefit from this class. Music used in this class will always be from a Broadway Musical and may include learning to sing and dance at the same time. CREATIVE MOVEMENT: Introduction of dance begins here. Children are taught dance through a variety of familiar children’s songs. Basic ballet/tap technique and terminology is covered. Props are incorporated with this class to build interest for the young dancer. Class respect and socialization is highlighted. A little ballerina is about to be born!
HIP HOP: Funky, fun and athletic, Hip Hop is a separate discipline of dance. Free-formed and derived from its street history, it’s a lot of pop and lock, filled with sharp percussive moves and a certain gymnastic quality. Loved from the serious dancer to the recreational dancer, cheerleading and poms, incorporate this in their routines. Class will consist of center warm ups, center core strengthening, and jammin center combinations. Come prepared to have fun.
LYRICAL: Lyrical Dance is one of the most popular, most noted styles of dance, within the dance community. Lyrical combines techniques of classical ballet, jazz and adagio. It allows the dancer freedom of expression and movement cutting between the graceful, yet powerful forms of all three dance disciplines noted above. The dance combines jumps, turns and various series of combinations. Much feeling encompasses this form of dance and requires ballet technique, as always, to attack this fun and exciting style. Lyrical has become a necessary part of dance training today. It is not to be confused with modern dance.
COMBINATION CLASSES: These classes provide beginning dancers a broader sampling of dance by combining two disciplines. Instructors will emphasize positions, posture, body line, flexibility, and isolations. Students will participate in warmup exercises, across the floor progressions and combinations, as well as other skills. Through combination classes, students will also increase their strength, style, and rhythm.

Cardio Kickboxing (DK) Cardio kickboxing is a high intensity workout that will increase your strength and flexibility while burning fat and having fun! It is a challenging non-contact cardio workout which includes throwing punches, kicking and experiencing new boxing training methods. Core work and toning will also be a part of this high energy class. An empowering experience that will surely get your heart rate up! One hour of Cardio Kickboxing can burn up to 500-800 calories! Check it out!
Strength training has been proved to benefit all populations, from adolescent athletes to seniors. Women, in particular, see tremendous benefits from strength training. Traditionally, women relied on cardiovascular activity and a low calorie diet to change their physical appearance. Unfortunately, low calorie diets merely punish the soul and decrease the metabolism. Without including consistent strength training in our program, effecting change can be an impossible goal. This class will combine strength training, yoga, and pilates exercises. Please bring a mat to class.

IN CASE OF AN ERROR Complete details of program policies, procedures and guidelines are sometimes omitted from the program brochures because of space limitations. Also, errors in days, times, registration requirements and fees may occur as well. We apologize for any errors that may appear in the brochure. We thank you for your patience and understanding when these situations arise.
Nothing ruins a good program quicker… than everyone waiting until the last minute to register for it. There is a point where if there aren’t enough registrants to hold the program, it is cancelled. Coming in the day of, or the day before the program won’t resurrect it. Please register at least a week early to avoid disappointment.
ONLINE REGISTRATION AVAILABLE SPRING 2012. LOOK FOR MORE DETAILS IN THE SPRING HIGHLIGHT.

RESIDENCY Not all Roselle residents are Roselle Park District residents. Even though you may have a Roselle address, you may pay taxes to another park district. Therefore, proof of residency is required when registering for programs for the first time. This may be done with a driver’s license, utility bill, (or a mortgage statement for those who are recently moving to the area). Roselle Park District residents support the district through property tax contributions and therefore these residents have first priority in the registration process each program period.
WAIT LIST PROCESS A wait list is formed when a class reaches participant levels beyond the maximum. The wait list is designed to maintain interested people in a holding area until more spaces in the program are available, someone drops out, transfers, or a new section is added by park district staff based on interest. The wait list is maintained based on the order we process registrations. Customers will be contacted for confirmation before being added to one of our wait lists (or transferred from a wait list into the desired program) by the front desk or specific program supervisor. Please note: before a participant is transferred into a program all corresponding paperwork and payments are required.
RETURNED CHECK POLICY We gladly accept personal checks as payment. If for any reason a check is returned to our office marked “NSF,” we will contact you. You will then be required to submit a full cash or money order payment, as well as a $30 administrative fee, within a five business day period. Class privileges will be suspended and new registration will not be accepted until payment is received.
