The Greatest Valentine’s Gift

You Can Give and Receive!

There is no greater gift than the giving of true, unconditional love. Love is a ruling theme in all of our lives, and especially within families. We all want to share love with each other; to receive love, to feel loved, to give love. It’s a driving force in all that we say and do.

Here are the top 5 ways to truly show and express your love for your family (and very importantly, yourself!)

Accept the whole. To love someone is to accept them fully for who they are, imperfections and all. Love does not

seek to change. Love celebrates the other person for who they are as a whole. Learning to accept one other, embracing everyone’s quirks and not “sweating the small stuff,” can greatly help all of you to open your hearts, appreciating and understanding one another (and yourselves) in a new way.

someone is being supportive, encouraging them to be the best version of themselves; to be what they want to be, not what we want them to be or think they should be. Love

and development. Love honors the other person and always strives to serve, protect, nurture and build. Give your family the support they need to reach their fullest potential.

Learn the language of Love. Love is about giving. Love can be described as receiving a gift. You cherish it, honor it, and appreciate its beauty. That gift is the other person; your partner,

speaks softly and gently. Speak from your heart and use kind words to explain your real feelings and desires. This teaches your children to communicate effectively and handle their emotions in a healthy way and fosters respect for one another while deepening your bond.

Know when loving means standing up for yourself. There are situations that arise where standing up for yourself, your beliefs and what you need, is the most loving thing you can do. By sticking to your position, you embody confidence and a sense of authenticity to your children. And by being clear and consistent in words and actions, your family builds trust, safety and dependability on one another.

True love begins at home. You need to nurture yourself, feed your body and soul, and feel good in order to have the space to love and take care of your family. If you begin to break down, you can not offer them anything. Accept yourself for all parts of you, support and nurture yourself (be your own cheerleader!), speak and act gently to yourself, and learn to let go of people, places or things that are draining you! Teach your children to utilize these 5 principles and you will set them up for a life of abundance and beauty and everyday miracles. Most importantl y, they will always know the true meaning of unconditional love and be able to recognize, receive and give it plentifully.

Make 2025 Your Year Take Care of Your Mind and Body health

Source: Care Resource

It’s that time again—fresh starts, new goals of mind and body wellness, and the feeling of possibility that comes with a new year.

MMost of us set resolutions to hit the gym more often, eat healthier meals, or finally stick to that sleep schedule. But how often do we include our mental health in the mix? At Care Resource, we know that true wellness isn’t just about your body—it’s about your mind, too.

What Is Behavioral Health and Why Should You Care?

“Behavioral health” might sound like a buzzword, but it’s really about how your thoughts, feelings, and actions impact your well-being. It includes mental health, how you manage stress, and the way you build and maintain relationships.

True wellness starts with understanding that your mental and physical health are deeply intertwined. By nurturing both, you create a foundation for healthier, happier life. —

Here’s something to think about: Your mental and physical health are more connected than you might realize. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that depression can increase your risk of heart disease by 67%.

Stress, anger, or even sadness can flood your body with hormones like cortisol. Too much of that stress hormone? It can make it harder for your immune system to fight off illness.

The Mind-Body Connection— It’s Real

Ever notice how a stressful week leaves you exhausted? Or how feeling anxious makes it harder to sleep or eat well? That’s the mind-body connection in action. When we’re struggling mentally, it often shows up physically, too. Poor sleep, unhealthy habits, and isolation can make you feel run-down or even sick.

But the good news? The connection works both ways. When you care for your mental health, your body responds—better energy, better sleep, and even fewer aches and pains.

How to Feel Better in 2025—Mind and Body

Not sure where to start? These small, realistic steps can make a big difference:

• Make Time for Yourself: Life gets busy, but self-care matters. Whether it’s reading a good book, journaling your thoughts, or taking a long walk, carve out time to do things that help you feel calm and recharged.

• Get Moving—Even Just a Little: You don’t have to hit the gym every day. A 30-minute walk, a quick yoga flow, or a dance break in your living room can lift your mood and ease stress. Find what feels fun, and keep it simple.

• Eat What Makes You Feel Good: Food isn’t just fuel; it affects how you feel. Try adding more colorful, balanced meals into your day, and don’t forget to

• Stay Connected to Your People: Friendships and family bonds are powerful tools for mental health. Reach out to someone you care about— meet for coffee, call just to say hi, or eve-0.31 inn send a quick text. Staying connected helps more than you think.

• Ask for Help—It’s Okay: Sometimes, we all need a little extra support. If you’re

feeling overwhelmed, talking to a counselor, therapist, or healthcare provider can help. There’s no shame in reaching out.

• Set Small, Doable Goals: Big changes can feel overwhelming, so start small. Instead of saying, “I’m going to exercise every day,” try “I’ll take a 15-minute walk three times this week.” Little wins add up and keep you going.

This Year, Make Yourself a Priority

Improving your health— mentally and physically— doesn’t have to mean a total life overhaul. Small steps can lead to big changes over time. Take time for yourself, lean on your support system, and don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need it.

At Care Resource, we’re here to help you every step of the way. Whether you’re looking for counseling, support groups, or other health resources, we’re here for you. Let’s make 2025 the year you feel better, inside and out.

8 Outside-the-Box Date Ideas

With our girls tucked in bed, my husband and I divided and conquered the house. I headed to the kitchen to scrub spaghetti sauce off the walls and load the dishwasher. He went to tear down the pillow fort in the den and scoop up toys (or so I thought). In reality, he enlarged the fort, added some twinkle lights, and set up a movie. This simple, creative gesture became one of my favorite date nights.

Finding time for romance while juggling the responsibilities of parenting can feel like one more thing on your neverending to-do list. But with a bit of creativity, date nights can be something you both look forward to rather than something you stress over. Let these 8 out-of-the-box date ideas spark your imagination (and the romance!) so you reconnect with your husband, even

1Be a kid again.

Who says children get to have all the fun at those popular birthday party locations? Those spots can also be ideal places for out-of-the-box date ideas. So leave the kids with a babysitter and head to an indoor trampoline park or rock climbing facility. Get behind the wheel for some go-kart racing or strap wheels on your feet at the roller rink. Prefer sweater weather? Go for some ice skating instead. And, hey, try slipping the DJ $5 to play your song for a “couple’s skate,” just like back in the day.

2Be a tourist in your hometown. Go on a self-guided walking tour or drive to that cute little lunch spot you’ve always wanted to try without the kids. Take a photo or two in front of that one mural making the rounds on social media. Discover a few hidden gems and

3Be a keeper of memories.

Speaking of your hometown, make a list of 10 locations that are part of your love story. Then, on your date, take your husband on a trip down memory lane by going there. At each spot, share favorite memories that took place there. For example, stop by the hospital where your child was born. Pick up a latte where you used to go every Saturday before kids. Get pizza from the first restaurant you ate at when you moved into your home. Or, if you need a date night in, take photos of each location beforehand and go on a virtual trip!

4Be adventurous.

Load a backpack with water and snacks and head out on the trails at a near-to-you state park. Hike to that waterfall or rock formation you’ve only seen on Instagram. Give ziplining a shot. Rent bikes (or a tandem one!) and pedal around a local park. Or, try paddleboarding, canoeing, or tubing down a river. Or, gulp, try an out-ofthe-plane date idea by going skydiving.

Be creative.

Think beyond the classic paint and sip. Consider taking a pottery class where you model your love story after the classic rom-com Ghost. Try a splatter painting session or attempt the “paint your spouse” challenge for more abstract approach. You each get a canvas, acrylic paint, and brushes. Then you see who can paint the best portrait of the other. Wait until you’re both finished before revealing your masterpieces. if art might not be your thing (or your husband’s), it can be a fun way for you to step out of your comfort zones together and create a new memory.

Be moving.

ake a dance class or try out a newto-you workout routine. Pilates, rowing, spinning, and yoga can offer out-of-

the-box date ideas and support your health (and couples!) goals. Book a couples session with a personal trainer or kick up some romance in a karate class. Or see if anywhere local offers a night of line dancing. You don’t need to love country music to love kickin’ it with your husband.

7Be proactive.

It’s a myth that only couples in distress go to counseling. The truth is many long-term and happy couples book a yearly session with a counselor for a relationship tune-up. So, consider scheduling a date to check in with one another and let an impartial professional guide the conversation. Or prepare some questions as conversation starters to get talking on your date night with your husband.

8Be constructive.

Put in the work to build a happy marriage and one of those DIY projects you’ve been talking about forever. Tackling wallpaper in your dining room or constructing that mudroom closet for the kids’ stuff will take stellar communication, extra doses of grace and patience, and (ideally) some lighthearted humor. Throw in a pizza and a playlist with “working” songs like Dolly Parton’s “9 to 5,” and you’ll have the makings of a perfect date! Plus, you’ll both enjoy the tangible results of the finished project.

What are some of your best out-of-the-box date ideas? k

Isla Morada History of Diving Museum

Dive in for a family adventure through 4,000 years of the “quest to explore under the sea” and learn about the unique South Florida connection to this untold story. A short drive south of Miami, the History of Diving Museum is located in the heart of the Keys at mile marker 83 in Islamorada.

Exhibits begin with early breath-hold diving and continues through the development of hard hats used in commercial and military diving. Did you know the Miller-Dunn Diving Company was located on the Miami River? They made divinhoods and helmets that were used around the world by early pioneers in underwater photography, treasure diving, marine biology and by the military!

Visitors will also see the progression to swim diving and modern day scuba plus diving armor used to descend into the Abyss. Kids can challenge themselves with a fun scavenger hunt through the exhibits, tracking down hidden artifacts and Playmobil divers along with enjoying hands-on interactive displays. For example, experience the thrill of discovery as you lift a real silver treasure bar from a sunken Spanish galleon, see what it is like to sit inside a diving bell or look through a diving helmet into the aquarium as fish go by.

From now until April 16th, you can also catch Dive Into Art: Fintastic Fish of Florida. This limited-time featured exhibit showcases artwork from the Art Guild of the Purple Isles and pieces created by student artists from across the Florida Keys. Come see the diverse creations, including homemade plush, paper mache, oil and acrylic paintings, sculpture, and so much more, all with a focus on the fish species of the Florida coast, sustainable fishing, and aquaculture programs.

The History of Diving Museum is an independent, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. The Museum is dedicated to the preservation, education and exhibition of the international story relating to “the quest to explore under the seas”, with an emphasis on the contributions of South Florida and The Florida Keys open daily from 10 am – 5 pm.

Fcamps Prepare Your Child... and Yourself for Camp!

happen when you let go and watch your child try something on his or her own. The moment the training wheels come off, the first trip down the driveway on the skateboard, the time our children ride the school bus – these are more than just memories, these are critical moments that define growth and change. For many families, the first time they send their child to camp is one of the biggest let go, hold your breath, and watch them soar moments in childhood.

In today’s world of high-tech kids and families who have a constant connection to each other, it’s essential to take the time to emotionally prepare for camp. It is, of course, important to prepare the first-time camper, but families need to make sure that Mom, Dad, younger siblings at home – virtually everyone – is ready to adjust to camp life.

The American Camp Association® (ACA) provides the following tips to help ease first-time families into the camp experience:

Parents – As parents, it is important to focus on the positive aspects of camp. Remember that separation is natural, necessary, and inevitable – what better

place to have that first experience than designed specifically for children? Parents can also focus on the amazing benefits of camp – an experiential education like no other teaching valuable 21st century survival skills like leadership, teamwork, problem-solving, and interpersonal communication.

Siblings – Bod Ditter, family therapist and one of the nation’s leading experts on camp, cautions it is likely that the child left at home will experience separation anxiety and truly miss his or her sibling. To help them prepare, be sure to talk about the upcoming separation. Before the eldest child leaves for camp take a picture of your children together that the sibling can keep in their room or carry around. Remind your children about the communication they can have with each other through letters and postcards.

Other family members – Be sure that everyone is aware of the upcoming experience. Let family members know how to contact camper if they are interested through letters and care packages — make sure they are aware of any communication policies the camp may have, i.e. no phone calls or restrictions on what can be sent in a

care package. In addition, an increasing number of camps are using Web sites to display photos or video during the camp session. According to ACA’s 2011 Emerging Issues Survey, 75 percent of responding camps indicate that they post photos or videos to a Web site for families to view. Forty-five percent indicate that they post information, photos, and videos to social media outlets like Facebook. Families should be sure to ask camp directors about these options.

Camp is an equal opportunity lifechanger. By sending a child to camp, families are truly giving a gift that lasts a lifetime. By taking steps to mentally prepare for camp, families not only keep from getting “kid-sick” for their camper, but they can stay positive about the camp experience – which goes a long way toward helping first-time campers adjust to life at camp. And just like taking off the training wheels, the moment families see their camper radiating confidence and joy they will feel that burst of pride and gratitude that they allowed their child this experience. k
