About the Owner
"I launched Stemtree Coral Gables because such resources weren't available growing up in NYC. I was an accelerated student in math and science, I aspired to be an astronaut or a scientist, but I didn't know the pathway to get there. I would like Stemtree to provide the next generations of students additional tools to help accelerate classroom success, which I didn't have access to achieve." Said Ty Gabriel, Executive Director. k

15 Photos to Snap of Your Kids This Summer
Scrolling through channels, I landed on a wildlife documentary. A photographer lay on her belly, a huge telephoto lens at her face. In the distance, a female lion licked her paw, oblivious. At the same time, my son sat a few feet away, petting our dog. “How cute,” I thought. Carefully, I slid my phone out of my pocket and took a stealth photo. Taking pictures of kids can be artistic or spontaneous, and it turns out the latter ones make me smile more.
It’s the everyday photos that really capture who our kids are. Taking pictures of kids is fun, but this summer, let’s try to remember the little moments with these 15 photo prompts. Treat your child like wildlife and take that stealth photo. Go on. You’ll be glad you did.
1Making Memories With Friends
Maybe they’re playing with toys or caught up in the world of make believe. Maybe they’re giggling about something, holding hands, or riding bikes. Capture these memories by taking pictures of your kids when they’re just plain happy to be with their friends.
2Hanging Out at Home
We don’t always think to pull
out our phones and capture what’s ordinary in pictures. But it’s these little moments—playing with a sibling, snuggling his lovey, being bored—that happen between the big moments that we should remember.
3At the Store
I have a multi-frame picture collage hanging in my hall, and one of my favorite photos is of my kids, walking hand-in-hand through Target. I followed behind and took the picture as they were enjoying a quiet moment together.
4Learning a New Skill
There’s this picture of me leaning against a tree at age 4, arms crossed. My parents had been trying to teach me to ride a bike. Guess who wasn’t cooperating? I like that photo because it captures my frustration, but also, I imagine my parents’ too. Now, I try to remember to do the same with my kids. The lesson is not everything is easy— for kids or parents.
5Playing Outside in Water
Sprinkler? Pool? Lake or ocean? Water tends to elicit some special smiles with kids. Snap pics of your kids
enjoying themselves in their bathing suits or splashing through puddles.
6Bonding With Teammates
Cheering on the bench. In a huddle during a time out. Giving high-fives at the end of the game. Taking pictures of kids when they’re doing their sport often shows their personality more than a posed picture afterwards—but do that too!
7Being Sleepy
I love the glazed eye look. Usually, it happens when my kid is on the couch, cuddling a stuffed animal. But I also like taking a picture of him in the morning, seconds before he wakes up.
8In Different Lighting
Snap pictures of your kids in the early morning when the sun is just rising and in the evening if you’re out playing in the yard or taking a walk. The different lighting can capture that golden glow of childhood. It might be the one you cherish the most.
9As a Close-up
Focus your lens on the bottoms of her feet. Or the tops of her hands. The back of his neck or the curve of his cheek. Your child is unique in every little way.
10In Profile, Unexpected
This is one to frame, especially if you’ve caught a particular emotion: awe, surprise, contentment, joy.
11Laughing
You have to be quick to catch him mid-laugh with baby teeth—or gaps— on full display.
12In a Group Selfie
Don’t let the summer pass you by without taking pictures of yourself with the kids. You won’t always have someone nearby to do a formal shot, and that’s fine. Actually, those tend to

look a little stiff anyway. Just stick your phone out and let your kids drape themselves over you. Get a pic at the park, the beach, and everywhere in between.
13Getting Ready
Kids pulling on socks or buttoning a jacket soundd ordinary, but when you capture their focus and excitement before they get somewhere, you realize these are special moments too.

real dangers that astronauts face during their missions above Earth as well as the unique challenges and rewards of life on board the International Space Station (ISS).
As you navigate the exhibition, you’ll be put to the test as you learn about weightlessness, experience the sights, sounds and smells you might find aboard an orbiting space station and
discover how astronauts eat, sleep, and even go to the bathroom in space! You’ll also get a look at all the ways in which the forbidding environment of space can kill the humans who explore it.
Guests will uncover firsthand the challenges of working in space—from operating a robotic arm to managing the limited power supply available to keep life support systems running to discovering why working in a space glove is so difficult.
Your adventure through Journey to Space leads up to a trip through a full-scale, climb-aboard mock-up of the Destiny Lab, the primary research facility for U.S. payloads on the ISS. With its rotating mechanism, the Destiny Lab will give you the sensation you’re floating as you get a virtual tour of the lab from astronauts who have worked there.

Top 8 Ways to Spoil Dad this Father's Day!
Written by: Camille Lucy
et ready for that special man in your life to feel the love! Father's Day is fast approaching, and it's the perfect opportunity to celebrate the amazing father figures in our lives. While dads often share common qualities like strength, love, and protection, each one is as unique as our fingerprints, with their own special quirks, interests, and ways of expressing their unwavering care and support. Whether your dad is a beach bum, a sports aficionado, a foodie, or anything in between, we've got some great ideas to make this Father's Day truly unforgettable.
For the Outdoor Explorer
There are endless opportunities for outdoor fun that you can plan! Treat the man in your family to a day of sun, sand, and surf with a beach outing or a hike. If he’s got a green thumb, help tend to the garden, or plant something new and special.
For the Sports Enthusiast
Love sports? Great! Take Dad to catch a game or match of his favorite sport, or set up a backyard game if tickets aren’t
team colors! You can tailgate before hand, bringing his favorite snacks. Can’t make it out to a game? No problem! Set up a “tail gate” party in your own living room and watch on TV!
For the Gamer or Tech Guru
If the special man in your life enjoys gaming, spend Father's Day competing in some friendly matches together. If he loves technology, turn Father's Day into an exciting adventure with a high-tech treasure hunt. Create clues based on his favorite tech gadgets or landmarks around the city or your neighborhood, leading him to the ultimate prize—the gift of a new piece of tech gear he's been eyeing.
For the Handyman
Get your hands dirty as a family with DIY projects! Spend Father's Day working on a home improvement project together. Whether it's fixing up the backyard or building a new piece of furniture, it's the perfect opportunity to bond over some unique craftsmanship.
For the History Buff or Literary Dad
Take a trip to your area's historical sites and museums. You can also grab some books from the library and read them together. Start a father-child book club and spend Father's Day discussing your latest reads over a cup of tea or some tasty snacks.
For the Car Enthusiast
If the man you love takes pride in his wheels, why not treat him to a day of pampering for his car? Take it to a local car wash for a thorough cleaning and detailing, or wash the car for him at home! You can also surprise him with some new accessories to spruce up his ride.
For the Music Lover
Whether it's a live concert or a backyard or living room jam session, spend Father's Day enjoying some quality tunes together. If you’re opting to go out, there's something for every music lover to enjoy from jazz clubs to live music venues.
26 kiddos | June • July 2024
After a day filled with fun and adventure, there's no better way to cap off Father's Day than with a delicious meal at his favorite restaurant, or cooking him his favorite meal at home.
Coping with the Loss of a Father and an Absent Father
In times of loss where your father is no longer present, finding ways to honor his memory can be both cathartic and healing. Planting a tree as a memorial, crafting a memory book filled with cherished moments, or relishing his favorite meal are all meaningful gestures that can provide comfort and a sense of connection to him, even in his absence. While nothing can replace the presence of a father, these acts serve as poignant reminders, keeping his spirit alive in your thoughts and heart.
Similarly, if your child's father is absent, fostering open and honest communication is crucial. Engage in conversations
about their father, address their inquiries, and encourage them to express their emotions about the situation. Ensure your child knows they are unconditionally loved and that you will always be there for them. If possible, consider involving a male role model in their life and invite them to share in meaningful activities together.
For those who have experienced the absence of a father firsthand, journaling about your experiences and emotions can be therapeutic. Writing offers a powerful outlet for releasing pent-up feelings and acknowledging the positive influences of other male figures in your life, fostering healing and gratitude along the way.
As Father's Day approaches, let's celebrate the diverse tapestry of father-
hood and the special bond we share with the dads and father figures in our lives. Whether they're cheering us on from the sidelines, lending a helping hand, or simply offering a shoulder to lean on, fathers embody strength, love, and unwavering support. This Father's Day, let's honor and cherish the unique qualities that make each dad extraordinary, while also recognizing the common thread of love and devotion that binds us all together.
So here's to the dads—thank you for being the incredible individuals you are, and for shaping our lives with your presence, guidance, and endless love. Happy Father's Day!

This Summer be Safer Around the Water
Source: Ocaquatics Swim School
Miami-Based Ocaquatics Swim School Offers Easy Water Safety Tips to Prevent Drowning
As we approach summer, it's essential to ensure that families can be SAFER around water.
According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, “Swim lessons are an important layer of protection to prevent drowning, in addition to pool fencing, close supervision and lifeguards while swimming, life jackets on boats and lakes, and CPR training.” Now is the time to become safer in, on and around water. Miami’s Ocaquatics Swim School Founder, Miren Oca, has over 30 years of experience in swim instruction and water safety. Oca shares, “We focus on the ‘Safer 3 Message’ from Stop Drowning Now Water Safety Foundation.”
Safer Water:
• Learn the risks associated with all bodies of water (such as pools, rivers, lakes, oceans, bathtubs, toilets). Reduce those risks by installing appropriate safety mechanisms.
• Install a fence around your pool or bodies of water, use sensors on doors that exit to a pool or water source, and remember to cover all drains.
Safer Kids:
• Kids must learn, as young as possible, swimming and basic safety skills. Participating in formal swim lessons reduces the risk of drowning in children ages one to four
by 88% according to the National Institute of Health (NIH).
• Always designate an adult water watcher to monitor the pool area at all times.
• Make sure your child understands the importance of never swimming alone or without adult supervision.
• Teach children to practice these additional precautions when in open water:
• Wear your life jacket.
• Enter unfamiliar water feet first.
• Only swim in designated swimming areas.
• Look for signs that indicate potential dangers.
28 kiddos | June • July 2024
Safer Response: Emergency response techniques save lives.
• Learn first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and other lifesaving techniques.
• Be prepared and keep a phone out by the pool at all times to call for help in an emergency.
• If someone needs help in the water, it’s best to call for help and then “Reach and Throw, and Never Go (into the water)!”
• Reach out to the person who needs help with a pool noodle, broom, or paddle.
• Throw a ring buoy, ball, or kick board.
• Don’t Go! A person who is struggling in the water may attempt to use you as a floatation device, ultimately putting you in danger.
Oca continued, “With these tips, swimmers can be safer around the water and reduce unnecessary risk. We say ‘safer’ as no one - regardless of skillis truly ever safe from drowning. But when the proper steps are taken, the probability of water related incidents can be greatly reduced and allow for more fun to be had by the pool or the shore.”
All Ocaquatics lessons include water safety education at every level. Ocaquatics also offers a free water safety evaluation to anyone in the community who stops by one of their five indoor, warm water locations to find out their family’s level of safety around the water. Additionally, Ocaquatics offers 20-minute water safety sessions with handouts for classrooms throughout Miami.
