BLADE SHOW 2016 PART TWO With more than a 1000 exhibitors coming from more than 20 countries, the BLADE SHOW is the most important worldwide event for the knife arena. Once again, we are going to give you an overview of these three days in Atlanta, that saw Kur Metamorphosis by Lionsteel as the best knife of the year from our reporter Tommaso Rumici
It's called Crypto the new folder designed by Liong Mah and produced by Edison Barajas. The blade is in Xhp San Mai by Chad Nichols, where as the details are in his titanium and zirconium damascus. The scales are in white micarta and the bolsters in titanium It's always worth it passing by Jeff Siggers: there is always something interesting. This time we parted for an original Combat Cleaver in AEB-L steel, with a coral red micarta handle. In the picture there is also on of the appreciated bottle-opener in the shape of Thor's hammer

So fascinating and so big: it's the Raven by Mike Kulygin, with long hook-shaped blade in S35VN and a tormented titanium handle. Here it stands together with the well-known Decepticon 1, with whom it shares the materials, to offer you a better idea of its imposing dimensions. This elegant t i t a n i u m f l i p p e r, called the Russian F l i p p i n g Ta n t o , is based on the design of Brad Southard which then was modified by Sergey Shigorov. The central area of the scales has been finely machined. The architecture is the classic framelock
On Gayle Bradley stand it was i m p o s s i bl e n o t t o admire the original from which the new Spyderco Advocate de r i ve s . T he mai n difference, between the custom and the model that will carry the Spyderco logo, will cleary be the presence of the opening hole. Less evident are the other modifications Also here in Atlanta we met the kind Mr. Koji Hara, who never misses a C.I.C. show in Milan. The knife in the picture is called Kumokiri and spots a monolithic handle with a ray skin lining. T h e bl a d e , w i t h a completely straight cutting edge , is in damascus and VG-10

The Zivug by Fletcher Knives is a medium-size knife, without frills, that shines for its well crafted finishings and the perfect ergonomics. The blade is in Cpm154 with 61 Hrc, whereas the scales are made of three G10 pieces, secured at the tang with small titanium tubes
The Japanese Rockstead did n o t d i s p l ay n ew models, but its exclusive products have anyway a t t r a c t e d c row d s . I n t h e p i c t u re , a n elegant sample of the Higo-X with stainless steel and i ro n wo o d h a n d l e . The blade is in an e x t re m e l y s t ro n g and sharp ZDP-189 Bertie Rietveld won the Best Ar t K n i f e a w a r d . To u n d e r s t a n d w h y, it's enough to take a look at this magnificent dagger in nebular damascus, with handle in verdite and bronze details, created with lost-wax casting
Grit certainly isn't lacking in the Ultra Phalanx byTreeman K ni ve s . T he k ni fe , here in its 6 inches ve r s i o n , h a s a O 1 blade, coated in Cerakote, the handle is in G10 and carries a pointy skullcrasher and solid brass knuckles guard. The sheath is in Kydex

Even if it's not n ew, t h e K w a i ke n by L u c a s B u r n l e y remains a very much appreciated knife . This is the compact version with a CTSXHP stonewashed blade and titanium handle . The azure one carries a “Burnley Rose pattern decorated handle Although the French cutlery is seldom active in the military arena, Bastinelli has managed to rise in a short period of time thanks to his gritty and rich in character d e s i g n s . B e t we e n f o l d e r s a n d f i xe d blades, he can now boast of his array, quite desirable
From the top, Tr a i l m a t e a n d Magua created by T.M.Hunt. The first c a rrrr i e s a m i c a r t a and G10 handle and a C p m 1 5 4 bl a d e . The second one is in burnished O1 carbon steel, with a micarta handle secured by two pins and brass small tube

C o m b a t i ve E d g e is one of the few brands that offer a balisong. The model is called Legacy and sports a S90V blade, and a titanium and G10 handle. The ball bearings ensure a perfect movement. In the same picture, the M1X linerlock with an aluminum handle What happens if we cross a karambit and a hatchet? A bridge with the past The year 2016 marks the 285° anniversary of Zwilling and the German company has decided to celebrate it with a limited series. Defining it special is to diminish it as it has been created with a steel that cannot be more rich in history and exclusive by Giorgio Alessandri

The knife undergoes the proprietary Sigmaforge process that allows to forge the metal with replacement of a number of metallic extreme precision and results in a particular knot which is the secret of the handiness of the components that weren't any longer Pro series

Zwilling decided to collect t h e s c rap s t o c re at e a f a s c i n at i n g project: celebrate its 285 year s and the art of forging made in Solingen by using the Sigmaforge process to forge ver y special damascus knives. Th i s d a m a s c u s i s t h e re s u l t o f t h e union of a modern stainless steel and the one of the scraps of the bridge. The end-result, the Müngsten Damast, has 107 layer s and reaches 60 HRC of hardness, a perfect balance to offer great cutting qualities, as the standards of the Ger man company have accustomed its clients. With this peculiar material no series has been created, but only one design. O bv i o u s ly t h e ch o i c e c o u l d n ' t b e done if not on the king of the kitchen: the 20 cm chef's knife. The shape is the same as the one of the Zwilling Pro
Chef series: a design created by the Italian Matteo Thun, who perfected the historic three rivets trademark of the German company. The extraordinary Müngsten Damast keeps unchanged the excellent handiness that comes from the thorough study of the forged knot and the wise balance. It's a ver y though and naturally waterproof material, even if, from time to time, it can benefit from a nice layer of tea-seeds oil to keep its beauty. Clearly, the scales are secured through the three stainless steel rivets, that aside being elegant, 10

3. To create this limited commemorative edition, Zwilling has created a special damascus by combining a modern stainless steel with the one of the scraps from the maintenance of the Müngsten bridge
of Zwilling. Based on its origin, this damascus has an high percentage of carbon, thus the formation of a patina with its use is normal, therefore each time it gets in contact with food, i t n e e d s b e cl e a n e d i m m e d i at e ly. Certainly it is less practical, but who buys such a product is looking for something else, and with such show of mastery, the buyer will be more than s at i s f i e d . represent the history and tradition of the company. As you may have guessed, this is a ver y high-end product, and only 285 have been produced, all with their serial number and properly held in an exquisite commemorative wooden e n c a s i n g. E ve n i f t h e p r i c e, wh i ch perfectly reflects the magnificence of the knife, is high, the pieces are already running out. And, money aside, there is another price to pay for such exclusiveness: the maintenance, way more than the one needed for the standard stainless steel products
4. Notwithstanding the important price and the precious materials, the Müngsten Damast chef suits perfectly in the kitchen, just like the standard model from which it derives. It needs a little more careful maintenance
