10th Annual ARTbeat Gala & Auction
20
2018
OCTOBER
ThE POweR OF ARt iS REAL Dearest Friends, Thank you so very much for joining us at our annual fundraising gala. Your attendance is a testament to our belief that we need art in our lives, every day, and perhaps, now more than ever. We hope that tonight you can learn about the many ways that the Kirkland Arts Center is bringing art to an ever wider circle of art lovers. Over the past year, the two of us have had the great pleasure to meet with many of you to learn how the Kirkland Arts Center is serving us all and how we can do more. We learned that above all else, the magic of creating art as a community is what keeps students and teachers returning year after year. We also learned that our stewardship of the Peter Kirk Building has become a symbiotic relationship providing a much-needed use for a historic building. Over the next five years, Kirkland Arts Center’s vision is to become the go-to destination for arts programming on the Eastside. The demand for our classes continues to grow. The excitement for our after-school program has proved to be infectious. With five hundred students per quarter and growing, Kirkland Arts Center is now engaging in partnerships and satellite locations to provide more programs and exhibitions. Tonight, we ask that you celebrate and support this vision by boldly raising your paddles. Our goal of $250,000 will help Kirkland Arts Center reach the ambition we have outlined in our strategic plan. We are excited for what the future can be and are so thrilled have you join us in this new phase of our history. Our wholehearted gratitude for believing in the Power of Art,

The Guitarist, or Crossroads Traffic Value: $1250 RESIN COATED METALLIC C-PRINT ON PANEL 24 x 24”
2
ITEM
Troy Gua was born and raised in Seattle. He grew up with Ronald McDonald and Ronald Reagan, King Tut and the King of Pop; media culture has shaped his life and is a vital component of his creative process. The Guitarists, or Crossroads Traffic is a piece from Gua’s extensive Pop Hybrids series, and graphically depicts the superimposed images of legendary guitarists Jimi Hendrix and Robert Johnson. Rather than Warhol’s emphasis on repetition, Gua suggests that we are running out of space even for our cultural icons to retain a solo spotlight in our crowded collective conscience. Gua has exhibited nationally and is represented by SAM Gallery in Seattle. 32

Ryan Molenkamp’s work is rooted in the changing landscape, natural and built, of the Pacific Northwest. Many of his paintings are as if the landscape and the man-made structures built across it have melded into one fused creation. Molenkamp wonders what the lines and shapes that form such creation can say about the kinds of structures we build around our environment and around ourselves. His work can be found at Linda Hodges Gallery and SAM Gallery in Seattle.

Thank you is not big enough to express our gratitude to the community of artists who are the beating heart of Kirkland Arts Center. We are overwhelmed by your creative contributions to this year’s event and by your dedication to bringing the power of art to the community. Thank you so much for generously sharing your impressive work - we are forever grateful! Collectors, we encourage you to bid boldly tonight in support of these generous artists and to continue your curiosity and support of their work throughout the year.
