FOR everyone. CE credits.
DECEMBER 6–8 FRIDAY–SUNDAY
Transform your view of myofascial anatomy and expand your ability to assess postural and movement patterns. Tom Myers offers a revolutionary map with practical results that helps you see and understand bodies in terms of postural patterns, and shows you how to trace the lines of strain and develop strategies to deal with them.
Psychological trauma—suffering the losses we most dread or being wounded where we are most vulnerable—can cause chaos in previously ordered lives, freeze progress in active ones, or both.
Getting the Love You Want
In this program, which combines Anatomy Trains theory with structural and functional anatomy and analysis, you learn
In this program, James S. Gordon, a Harvard-educated psychiatrist and author of The Transformation: Discovering Wholeness and Healing After Trauma, offers safe, practical ways to explore, grow through, and move beyond trauma. Join him to learn how to
• About the myofascial tissue and its many roles in the body
• Understand the psychobiology of trauma
• The latest information on fascia, muscle, and movement
• Practice meditation to quiet agitation and gain perspective
• The 12 myofascial meridians and their link to human growth, development, perception, and consciousness
• Use self-expression and group support to relieve stress and trauma
• Treatment strategies specific to your clients’ structural and functional patterns. Return home with new techniques for assessing your clients and reaching deeper issues in the tissues.
• Identify post-traumatic stress symptoms
• Resolve psychological numbing and physical freezing. Trauma comes to all of us sooner or later, but we can learn to appreciate the spiritual growth that it can bring.

SPIRITUAL PRACTICE AND MEDITATION
DECEMBER 6–8 FRIDAY–SUNDAY
INSIGHT YOGA A YOGA AND MEDITATION RETREAT SARAH POWERS and TY POWERS FOR everyone with min. 1 year of yoga practice. CE credits. Mindfulness is a letting go of all motivations to manipulate the moment, a capacity to observe without willful interference. Yoga can be understood as a set of behaviors that encourages a holistic experience of the body, heart, and mind. It is a process of fully inhabiting ourselves. When we include both yoga and mindfulness in our practice, we learn to come home to our bodies and minds, which opens us to an authentic intimacy with our lives and ourselves. In this program, Sarah and Ty Powers share their unique approach to yoga and mindfulness: a practice of passive Yin poses balanced by a slow, alignment-based flow, with several sessions and talks involving mindfulness meditation. Drawing from Buddhist teachings, they encourage a greater capacity for emotional maturity and open awareness. You return home with a clarity of mind and ease of being that leaves you feeling refreshed and inwardly connected.
This module explores these symbols and how they can enrich your practice and teaching. Come discover a path established by ancient yogis that is still relevant today, including • Kriya, asana, pranayama, bandha, and mudra practices to explore your inner world • In-depth lectures on the symbolism of chakras, granthis, and nadis, and how they apply to contemporary practice • Deep meditation and personal exploration • Teaching tools to make your classes more powerful and meaningful. TUITION $1,074 + room & meals; p. 6

The Katha Upanishad, an early Indian text that was one of the first to call its teachings yoga, presented many concepts that were later incorporated by the sages who developed yoga practice, including the authors of the Yoga Sutras and the Bhagavad Gita. The text tells the story of Nachiketa, who has the privilege of questioning Yama, the Hindu god of death, on the meaning of life. In response, Yama teaches Nachiketa an early form of Vedanta and encourages him to explore his own deepest self. Drawing inspiration from this ancient text, Yoganand Michael Carroll seeks to increase your understanding of yoga philosophy and offers • Group study of the Katha Upanishad

DID YOU KNOW?
There’s no wrong way to meditate. And there are hundreds of right ways, according to Steven Leonard, creator of Freestyle Meditation and Lead Faculty for the Kripalu School of Yoga. Steven says that half his job as a meditation teacher is debunking people’s misconceptions about the practice. “Almost every meditation class I teach,” he says, “there are people who tell me, ‘I can’t empty my mind’ or ‘I can’t stop my thoughts.’ The first step is helping them understand that not only is stopping your thoughts not the point of meditation, it’s not even possible.” What is the point? Whatever you want it to be, says Steven. “A broad definition of meditation is that it connects you with a quality you want to embody in your day-to-day experience,” he says. Whether you’re looking to cultivate more freedom, balance, joy, gratitude, or flow, there’s a meditation practice that will spark and nurture that quality—and it doesn’t have to involve sitting on a cushion with your eyes closed. To explain the various approaches to meditation, Steven often uses the analogy of yoga: Different styles of yoga appeal to different personalities or bodies, and you can modify the practice to make it work for you. “As a yoga teacher, I would never push someone to do a certain variation of a posture,” he says. “I would invite them to do it in their own way and at their own pace, and give them permission to listen to their body and make adjustments.” Thinking about meditation like this opens up a whole new, intimidation-free world. According to Steven, cooking, hiking, even petting your dog can qualify as meditation if you’re doing it with awareness and intentionality. When and how often you meditate is also in your court, Steven says. “Some people like to start the day with it, to help them feel grounded, and others prefer to meditate at night, to integrate the day and prepare for sleep. Midday works well for me—it gives me energy for the rest of the afternoon.” He recommends starting with just a few minutes a couple of times a week, and increasing as feels right. “You get to create your own rules,” he says. “First, get clear about your intention, and then experiment to find the practice to fit that intention. For most people, the point is not to transcend the human experience, as it was for the ancient yogis, but to support our everyday lives.”
FIVE OUT-OF-THE-BOX MEDITATIONS TO TRY: Watch the birds. Let their colors and songs wash over you as they flash by, without trying to identify them.
1
Move with awareness. Next time you walk to your car, do the dishes, or take out the trash, notice your thoughts and sensations as you accomplish your task.
2
Breathe fully. Every time your phone buzzes to announce a text or email, inhale on four counts and exhale on five.
3
Write. Do 10 minutes of meditative journaling, letting the words flow onto the page as they come to you, without editing them.
4
Give thanks. Each day, at a set time, take a moment to name three things you are thankful for.

If you’re not pursuing a rewarding career, healthy relationships, and financial security, not fulfilling your purpose and passion—or don’t even know your purpose or passion— then you are stopping yourself without even knowing it. But now is the time to commit to radical self-care and become unstoppable!
In this retreat, you learn to build a foundation of trust and safety in the bodymind, release doubt and fear, and make room for new possibilities in the new year. Rabbi Sigal Brier guides you to mindfully attune within, using transformative meditations, relaxation, group interactions, and kind self-inquiry to find a Mendful path to your heart. Discover how you can move from selfloathing to self-love, from feeling lost to being more at home within yourself, and from judgment to compassion and care. Lean back into the mystery, and emerge ready for 2020 with more connection, trust, and contentment, inspired to live on purpose and open to new possibilities. TUITION $260 + room & meals; p. 6

FOR women. Style isn’t really about the clothes you wear. It’s about who you are on the inside, and how you choose to show up in the world. So often we look outside ourselves to figure out what to wear, but when the clothes don’t fit or the styles feel off, we blame ourselves. We think our bodies are the problem. (They’re NOT!) Stasia Savasuk shows you how to access your deepest truth via the simple act of getting dressed. Through guided instruction, journaling exercises, and small-group conversations, you • Identify who you are on the inside, and learn how to accurately reflect that you-ness on the outside • Name and tame the negative voices inside your head • Begin the practice of REVELing in your body by understanding the basic principles of body shape, body balance, and body proportion. Return home empowered, ready to show up in the world wholly, completely, and authentically YOU. Why Silence Is Good for Us HERE’S HOW TO REAP THE BENEFITS OF GOING WITHIN.
From airplanes to smartphone alerts, modern life is noisy. The steady stream of auditory stimuli keeps us focused on the external world and makes it harder to turn our attention inward. But it’s worth it: Spending a portion of our downtime in silence helps regulate our hormones, reduce our blood pressure, boost our immune systems, and enhance our creativity and self-awareness. Studies show that silence can stimulate new cell growth in the brain, improve memory, and release tension—leading to greater calm, clarity, and centeredness. “Time in silence nourishes our souls and supports us in feeling connected to ourselves and others,” says Cristie Newhart, Dean of the Kripalu School of Yoga. “We learn how to welcome our experience, both inside and outside ourselves.”
HERE ARE A FEW WAYS TO INCORPORATE MORE SILENCE INTO YOUR LIFE: • When you wake up in the morning and before going to sleep at night, lie in bed quietly for a few minutes without picking up your phone. • Drive in silence. Start with five or 10 minutes to begin and increase the time as your “silence muscle” gets stronger. • Go for a walk or run in the park, without listening to music. • Try adopting Kripalu’s tradition of Silent Breakfast— or make it a silent lunch or dinner, without media or conversation.
When we take a few hours or a few days to put our phones and laptops away, pause the music and podcasts, refrain from conversation, and commit to mindful silence, we return to our regular routine not just renewed, but more awake to who we are and what we need most. “For me, silence regulates my nervous system in a way that allows me to be more present with the flurry of life,” says Erin Casperson, Dean of the Kripalu School of Ayurveda. “My patience increases, my ability to manage a hectic schedule becomes more relaxed and efficient, and my communication becomes more effective.” Ultimately, Erin says, when we give our ears a break from constant noise, we give our entire being a break. “Ayurveda teaches us that we’re a braid of senses, mind, body, and spirit,” she says, “and that all of our consumption and experiences affect one another. If our mind is centered, our body can relax. If our body is relaxed, our mind can follow, and we can more easily surrender into the moment.”

BESSEL VAN DER KOLK instructors, and others looking to deepen their understanding of how trauma impacts the brain, mind, and body, and learn embodied approaches to healing from trauma. CE credits.
Overcoming trauma means fully engaging in the present without being hijacked by survival-related emotions and sensations. Success means allowing yourself to know what you know and feel what you feel without reentering the past. Recovery depends on physical experiences that contradict sensations and feelings of helplessness and disconnection. This program includes • Current research on trauma • An exploration of how overwhelming experiences change the capacity for selfregulation and how imprints of trauma are held in the body • How brain development and function are shaped by experience • Specific techniques that affect regulation, the integration of dissociated aspects of experience, chronic helplessness, and the reintegration of human connections. • An overview of effective trauma interventions, including EMDR, yoga and sensorimotor processing, Internal Family Systems, and neurofeedback • A discussion about how to find the right treatments for individual needs. TUITION $310 + room & meals; p. 6
How we experience our bodies impacts how we heal from traumatic events. Explore the neurobiology of self-experience and how to use this work with clients who have a history of trauma. As therapists, we can use our own body awareness as a barometer to track the states of our clients and ourselves within the session. Licia Sky discusses and demonstrates how this awareness affects the therapeutic container and the ability to be present with what emerges within each session. Based on the upcoming The Body Keeps the Score Workbook, this program offers an array of nonverbal experiential exercises drawn from theater, guided focusing, dance, meditation, yoga, bodywork, and Embodied Voice. FOR everyone. Healing Chöd is an ancient Buddhist ritual known for its power to alleviate physical, emotional, and mental suffering. There are no instructions to follow or techniques to learn. One simply lies down, rests, and receives healing. Healing Chöd is suitable for everyone, including those with chronic or mild conditions. Healing Chöd rituals consist of music, prayers, and mantras in the sacred sounds of Sanskrit and Tibetan, transformative mudras and offerings, and meditation to cut through destructive emotions and repel negative energies and obstacles. Empowerments are given to further increase healing blessings. Dakini’s Heart-Essence Chöd is based on the female Buddha, Vajrayogini. It originated with the 10th-century Indian yogi Mahasiddha Naropa, and was passed down to Lama Migmar’s guru, Chogye Trichen Rinpoche, also the guru of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Mindful Habit Change
Love, Sex, and Intimacy
HOW THE MIND CAN HEAL THE HEART
TARA BENNETT-GOLEMAN and DANIEL GOLEMAN
Linda and Charlie Bloom
FOR everyone. CE credits.
FOR individuals and couples. Intimacy is to the soul as food is to the body. When the longing for intimacy is satisfied, we experience wholeness and sufficiency. In conjunction with a sexual connection, intimacy can be exhilarating, inspiring—even transcendent. Connection’s shadow side is fear of intimacy, which is actually the fear of loss, rejection, shame, and humiliation. Intimate contact requires that we learn ways to skillfully respond to these fears. This program addresses how we can do that and • Maintain an open heart in the face of powerful emotions • Redirect the energy contained within the full range of our feelings toward states of heightened awareness
TARA BENNETTGOLEMAN, MA, is a teacher, psychotherapist, and author of the New York Times best-sellers Emotional Alchemy and Mind Whispering. tarabennettgoleman.com
DANIEL GOLEMAN, PHD, brought the concept of emotional intelligence to a global audience and for many years reported on behavior and the brain in the New York Times.
TUITION $265 + room & meals; p. 6
Learn to repattern old habits of thinking, feeling, acting, and interacting. Drawing from their books, Focus, Mind Whispering, Emotional Alchemy, and Emotional Intelligence, Tara BennettGoleman and Daniel Goleman integrate the sciences of attention and habit change with Eastern and Western psychologies. In this groundbreaking program, you explore how to • Apply nurturing mindfulness to emotional habits such as unhealthy aversions and attachments, avoidance of emotional connection, anxious relationship preoccupations, entitled control, or passive surrender • Cultivate an attuned, discerning, and mindful “overseer” to make clearer choices • Ground yourself in a wise heart instead of being driven by reactivity • Build a genuine and secure foundation for all your connections. Experience a new lens for understanding the patterns that play out in your life and relationships.
• Recognize and neutralize patterns that limit deep connection • Identify what it takes to feel love in its physical, sexual, and spiritual splendor. TUITION $265 + room & meals; p. 6

In this experiential and educational intensive, you notice with radical compassion the obstacles you create for yourself and cultivate strategies to return to the moment. Through spiritual storytelling, yoga on and off the mat, mindful communication, movement as metaphor, deep relaxation, conscious fun, and healing breathwork, you practice living with authenticity, joy, vitality, and the abundant grace that is your birthright. When the body flows like running water, it is always renewed, always fresh. This is true freedom. Come explore the Taoist concept of effortless flow through qigong exercises, and then bring the same ease of motion into vinyasa yoga sequences. This program focuses on • Breathing exercises to enhance lifeforce energy • The Eight Brocades, Swimming Dragon, and other qigong practices to open the meridians • Meditative yoga flow • Concentration techniques for mental clarity
Insight meditation (vipassana) is a simple technique that originated in the Buddha’s teachings and was kept alive for more than 2,500 years in Asia. The practice teaches you to calm and steady the mind by gently grounding your attention in the present moment. The mind is then prepared to look into itself and all of life with more openness and clarity. Clarity leads to insight, which frees you from reactive patterns, so you can more fully experience the vast potential of your mind and heart. Matthew Daniell introduces sitting, walking, and daily-life meditation methods, using attention on breath and body as the foundation. Discussion and teaching complement periods of silent meditation as you explore the power of present-moment awareness (mindfulness). While this retreat is paced to support beginners, everyone is welcome to attend. TUITION $270 + room & meals; p. 6
MATTHEW DANIELL has been practicing Buddhist meditation for more than 25 years, and has studied Zen, Tibetan Buddhism, and insight meditation.
• Suggestions for a simple and productive home practice. While yoga has its roots in the Vedic scriptures of India, qigong grew out of the Chinese Taoist pursuit of longevity. The movements in both forms are graceful and gentle, with powerful effects that detoxify the body as they increase strength, flexibility, and peace of mind. TUITION $240 + room & meals; p. 6

FOR everyone. We often feel compassion when a close friend or family member is struggling. What would it be like to give yourself that same kindness when you suffer, fail, or feel inadequate? Self-compassion is a practice that can be learned by anyone. Research shows that fostering self-compassion results in better emotional well-being—lower levels of anxiety and depression, healthier diet and exercise habits, and more satisfying relationships. Self-compassion allows us to be more fully human—more completely ourselves. In this program, Christopher Germer offers an exploration of the yin and yang of selfcompassion—being with ourselves in a kind way and taking decisive action in the world. Then, he introduces a new understanding of shame, an emotion that arises from the universal wish to be loved. Come learn tools for living with more self-compassion, as well as skills you can share with clients. TUITION $275 + room & meals; p. 6
