Ayurveda originated in India more than 5,000 years ago and is the oldest continuously practiced health-care system in the world. Ayurveda is built around the five elements of ether, air, fire, water, and earth. The goal of Ayurveda is to teach people how to attain optimal health through a deeper understanding of themselves and their own particular nature in relationship to the world around them.
Immersion Learning When you’re immersed in the fields of yoga or Ayurveda, from skill-building to self-development, with a community of like-minded peers, you have the opportunity to deeply embody what you’re learning. This enables you to move into the world as an inspired teacher and healer.
Exceptional Faculty Our faculty are extraordinary guides. With in-depth experience, a deep commitment to teaching, and a profound connection to the wisdom and practices that yoga offers, they foster immersive learning environments in which individuals can flourish.
Thriving Lineage Our students benefit from four decades of integrating the fundamentals of the Kripalu lineage with understanding gained from modern science. The result: Ours is a living tradition and a continually evolving practice.
The Kripalu Lineage The Kripalu tradition is founded on the teachings of Swami Kripalu (1913– 1981), an Indian yoga master, scholar, poet, musician, and spiritual teacher. Over the past 40 years, Swami Kripalu’s teachings have been integrated with psychology, science, and Western models of healing and self-development, creating groundbreaking programs and paths to well-being.
Kripalu’s curriculum, professional trainings, and yoga research continue to be informed by the lineage of Kripalu Yoga. Today, nearly 10,000 Kripalu Yoga teachers and School of Ayurveda graduates around the world practice, teach, and contribute to the development of this unique approach to yoga and life. 800.848.8702 | 03

Meet the Deans
Yoganand Michael Carroll Dean of the Kripalu School of Yoga
Yoganand Michael Carroll, E-RYT 500, IAYT, has more than 25 years of experience studying and teaching yoga. He was a resident of the Kripalu ashram for 15 years and has studied with masters in the Kripalu tradition in both the United States and India. He is a dedicated scholar of esoteric yoga texts and techniques, and leads workshops and teacher training programs across North America. Why do you teach yoga? Yoga has been the most powerful force throughout my life. Over the years, yoga has become a way for me to live in integrity and truth—inner first, then outer. That is what I try to teach, and yoga is my vehicle.
Larissa Hall Carlson Dean of the Kripalu School of Ayurveda Larissa Hall Carlson, E-RYT 500, directs trainings, guides retreats, and provides Ayurvedic consultations across the country. Each summer, she teaches yoga to reduce performance anxiety for the elite musicians of Tanglewood Music Center, and has taught courses for students at the Boston Conservatory, Juilliard School, Harvard, and Princeton. She is the creator of three CDs, Meditative Yoga Flow, Ayurvedic Pranayama, and Pitta-Pacifying Yoga. Why do you teach Ayurveda? Ayurveda has dramatically strengthened my health, invigorated my yoga practice, and enhanced my spiritual studies. I feel called to share these ancient healing tools, and I hope to spend my life empowering and encouraging people to live in harmony with the rhythms of nature. 20 | kripalu.org/ksya
