About The Salvation Army

28 | triathlon at the kroc

The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.

35 | kroc policies

Nearly 33 million Americans receive assistance from The Salvation Army each year through a wide array of social services that range from providing food for the hungry, relief for disaster victims, assistance for the disabled, outreach to the elderly and ill, clothing and shelter to the homeless and opportunities for underprivileged children. About 83 cents of every dollar raised is used to support those services in nearly 9,000 communities nationwide. For services, donations, and other information, visit www.salvationarmyusa.org.

An Integrated Therapeutic Approach

My son began the FOCUS program in August of 2012, just before the start of a new school year. Normally, this is an extremely difficult transition and is full of anxiety for him, and by extension, the rest of our family. To our great delight, he transitioned smoothly. By the end of the first 12 weeks, he was doing far better than expected in every area. His coordination, which had previously been deeply lacking, had improved dramatically. His ability to cope with transitions both at home and at school was dramatic. And, to my GREAT surprise, my son, who had never wanted to participate in any extra curricular activity, begged to take the strings class offered after school. He took on the difficult violin as his instrument. To the amazement of all who know him, he has excelled in his violin class. In December, I watched with tears as he took part in his first ever violin concert.

cAll 208-667-7434 6 winter/spring 2013

He is continuing on another 12 week round of FOCUS and every day he is getting more self-assured, his peripheral vision is improving, and his health has never been better. It is very dramatic to say that anyone “saved our lives.” In our case, in a very, very real sense, being in the care of Dr. Amy has saved our son’s life. We have knowledge to take charge of our own health and we have hope. We see the changes in our son and we know his future is bright, because he is waking up to things he likely never would have before this program. We can’t thank Dr. Amy and Dave Spoelstra enough; nor can we overstate the value of what they are doing. –CDA Mom

Adults authorized to pick-up children (including parents) will be required to show identification at pick-up. A Sign-Out Waiver Form must be completed by both parent and child for a camper to be allowed to sign him/herself in and out of Kroc Programs. When a child is given the authority to sign him/herself out, he/she is no longer in the care of The Kroc Center staff and standard Kroc Center membership policies apply. 24-hour notification is needed for late drop-off or early pick-up if the event has been pre-planned. A phone call to the Youth Coordinator in the case of unexpected absence or schedule changes is required. Consistent late pick-ups may be penalized with a fee. Waiver/Medical Forms Each student must have a parent or guardian sign a waiver (on the after school enrollment form) and supply correct and updated medical information in regards to their child(ren). Waiver(s) must be completed and signed prior to participation, preferably at time of registration. Inclusion If you foresee your child needing special accommodations and support, please fill out an Inclusion Request Form. Medication Distribution In the case of medication distribution, parents must complete a Right to Distribute Medication Form. This releases The Kroc Center from liability for medication that is required for distribution for the health of a child. Medication must be dropped off to Youth Coordinators in the original prescription container with your child’s name printed on the label and placed in a plastic bag. Medication will be stored in Youth Coordinator’s office and administered at the time(s) and in the amount designated by the Right to Distribute Medication Form. Parents must sign out medication at the end of each day and check back in the following day. Kroc Kids: 1st–5th grades Drop-off/Pick-up in Osprey Room This is where the fun begins! Children in this class are entering the age where they’re applying what they learn from the Bible into practice in their own lives. Children will engage in small group discussions where they share how they can apply what they learned from scripture to everyday life. Prayer and worship are also a focus in the lesson each week.
