Foto: Tinkie Hattingh

communications officer, said that the investigation was ongoing. In a sworn statement to the Maokeng police, a woman from Maokeng accused Mohapi of assault. It is alleged that the complainant and Mohapi were involved in a romantic relationship. According to reliable sources that broke the news to Kroonnuus, Mohapi was allegedly dumped by the plaintiff. Mohapi is married. The name of the woman who laid the charge of assault is known to Kroonnuus, but cannot be published because of a fear for intimidation. Sources say that photos of the complainant are available and show the alleged assault. According to the complainant’s state-

ment, the alleged assault took place on Friday (06/02). Mohapi started assaulting her with a clenched fist several times at a relative’s residence. He then allegedly drove away from the scene with the woman in his Volvo to a graveyard where the assault continued while the complainant struggled to get her cellphone. The complainant is believed to be married, but left her husband some months ago. On advice from his lawyers, Mohapi refrained from providing Kroonnuus with any comment. Mohapi has promised to give his full co-operation to the police until the matter has been resolved.
