Issadora is a typical Anchor T Impact daughter that goes back to our Lonestone Ms Baron 18C cow family. Issadora is a nicely shaped heifer with a heavy square hip, good depth, and a nice feminine front end. She is Gracelyn 850F’s first calf and has done well here. Gracelyn is a good Gamut daughter that has a great disposition and a udder and teats that all cattlemen wish for. Gracelyn weaned off a real good Fonzie heifer this year. I believe Issadora 13J is a real breeding piece and should be productive with the proven cow families backing her. Bred to Keet’s Han Solo should make the calf a real treat.

Over the years, we’ve had people inquire if we would ever consider selling calves. With Equation always being such a late sale, it makes it tough for out of province breeders to have confidence in selecting heavy-in-calf bred heifers for what could be both a long and uncertain truck ride. The combination of an exciting new sire group, and a heifer calf crop that dominated the boys 2:1 this year, made it an easy decision to try something new at Equation ‘22. We thought it only fitting that Giselle lead off our offering. A perfect example of the first calf crop from Black Gold Battleborn 44H, Giselle is a homo-polled, heavily pigmented head turner that is already exhibiting massive capacity at a young age. Soggy & deep sided, Giselle is simply a tremendous herd building piece with unlimited potential.

Her sire, Black Gold Battleborn 44H is dark liver red, and does have some ‘almost black’ pigment around his eyes that he tends to share with his progeny. Her dam, Delilah, is an impressive young Delmonte cow from Diva, a direct Antonius daughter backed by King Arthur. The first calf ever born at Applecross, Diva founded our ‘D-Line’ way back in 2008. Our ‘D-Line’ is rivaled by only our ‘P-Line’ in females currently walking here In part, because Jeanne usually vetoes one or the other, if not both! Delilah was a ‘bonus’ veto-heifer back in 2017 simply because she shares a birth date with Jeanne. That veto has turned out very well considering Delilah can produce progeny with that magic combination of volume and eye-appeal that is ever present in Dixie!

Bred. Heterozygous Polled. Dilutor Free. Full Fleckvieh. It was back at the 2012 Red Deer Bull Sale when we had the privilege of being stabled beside the always impressive Beechinor bull string. Having recently purchased a group of cows from Eagle Ridge, it seemed like half their herd bulls on offer that year were out of Anchor T Impact dams. It was at that moment that I knew I needed to figure out how to add ‘Impact’ to our own herd. A few years later we were successful in acquiring a semen pack, and now a decade later, we have Impact females walking at Applecross. We leveraged one of our top young cows, Applecross Diana 57E, and bred her Impact first as a heifer, and then for a flush a year later. Dotti is the result of those embryos, and is exactly what we were hoping for. A big, powerful female that has a quiet temperament (and likes her scratches!), in what is a truly unique pedigree. With two flush-mate sisters and an older sibling already in production, we thought we could share ‘Dotti’ with the industry. The possibilities are limitless with this front pasture female.

These are the last NUG Delmonte 81D offspring that will be on offer, and it is no surprise that all three of them are out of FGAF WowEffect daughters. We really liked this cross, as it simply seemed to work whether it be bull or heifer progeny. A full sibling to Pixie was one of my favourites in our 2021 bull string and was selected by Conestoga Farms at the Red Deer County Bull Sale. Pixie shares that big-volume build, with heavy pigmentation and a very strong maternal profile. As we shared earlier, our ‘P-line’ is very popular (Eight ‘D’s’ are scheduled to calve at APLX in 2023 vs. seven ‘P’s - pretty cool on a herd of 50 cows!), and originated with our foundation acquisition of Spruceburn Pauline in 2009. Her descendants have proven to be very popular, and have topped both our Equation (Penny, Pippa) and Red Deer Bull Sale strings (Wrangler). Pixie’s maternal sister, Applecross Paprika, was selected by Bonchuk Farms at Equation 2020. Look for the broody, high capacity (ironically named!) Pixie to carry on the family tradition in Red Deer.

As we continue our journey to add the polled gene to our program, Ivy becomes a very difficult female to sell, as this moderate framed powerhouse is exactly the type of heifer that we are trying to develop. At the same token, since Ivy does represent our future - marketing her gives producers a great idea of the type of females we think will drive the industry forward. Ivy’s dam, Applecross Isabelle, is also an impressive young cow, and looks more like her dam, DLD Lady Western 48R than any of the other 48R daughters we have walked here (and we retained them all!). Ivy is a very easy-doing female, with lots of pigment and multi-generations of proven cow families behind her. With endless mating options, we expect Ivy to become a cornerstone cow.

Lydia has full siblings working at Lone Stone Farms at Westlock (2020’s Lyanna) and at Alliance Simmentals in Ontario. (2021’s Liesel) One of the advantages of selling breds, is knowing what is coming up behind them, so as Frauline has gave us a 4th straight heifer in 2022 - it makes it easier to offer Lydia to the industry. All three full siblings (Lydia, Lyanna and Liesel) are similar in colouring & build, combining length of body with a large barrel and a nicely forming udder. Pedigree enthusiasts will also notice that Lydia and Ivy’s dams are full sisters, making them also genetically identical. King Arthur is legendary for the udder quality in his daughters, and we are pleased he has passed this trait along to all of our 48R progeny. Look for Lydia to complete this trifecta of heifers in style!

Welcome to the 2022 edition of Fleckvieh Equation, we have been consigning to this great sale since its inception in 2009. It has proven to be a great place to market and purchase fleckvieh fullblood cattle. After a couple years selling open heifers, we’re bringing a group of breds to Equation. We are proud of these heifers and the cow families that back them. All are sired by our own herd bulls. They were vaccinated with Express FP 10 prior to breeding and have had 2 doses of ScourGuard 4KC and Vision 8 this fall. The heifers were preg tested in August. We look forward to visiting and spreading a little Christmas cheer during the Alberta Simmental Weekend.

Full Fleckvieh The easy place to start is with Sugar Rush’s dam who has been one of the most productive and consistent producers on the farm. Blair was one we quickly picked out in the Pasture Treasures catalog. It took some spirited bidding to take her home as the high seller that day. Her first calf, BEE Ducati did a good job for Parview/Virginia Ranch and is leaving his mark through his daughters. Blair then had two top daughters sell to Starwest and a daughter to Richlan. A full sister to Sugar Rush was one of our favourites in the 2020 calf crop and we turned down some tempting private offers to retain her. Then came the stylish Sugar Rush. She’s always ranked high on my list with her ability to blend power and femininity much like her dam. Blair weaned off a 1000+ lb bull at the end of August this year. This cow is definitely on the list of cows that needs to be flushed and this polled Sugar Ray daughter might prove to be donor material in the future herself.

Full Fleckvieh Generations of maternal ability and foundation cows back this one. A full sibling to our last years $40000 Pasture Treasures high seller, BLL Petra 23H. I’ve had the privilege to see her in the Beechinor Bros display pasture along the highway all summer but that also cast a little regret that we let her go. John flushed her this spring and she went on to raise one of his top weaning heifer calves. Atricia 225Z has a son at O Double E and daughters at DGR Cattle and 2 more at Beechinor Bros. Petricia 118J is polled with lots of smoothness and eye appeal. A strong muscled heifer bred to our polled walking herd bull WJS Ego that has continued to impress with daughters like lot 120. She’s another I will probably regret selling but we have another full sibling in our current heifer calf group that I keep telling myself can be for me.

Full Fleckvieh Electric Avenues notoriety is growing and with females like this it is easy to see why. Henrica 131J is a moderate framed single goggled heifer that has been a favourite of many with her strong hip, wide top and big middle. Her dam is an exciting young cow with a tight udder, strong pedigree and strong production record already. Her grand dam is the Unbelievable 1U donor that did such a great job for us. A maternal brother to Henrica ranks as one of our top bull calves and we’re eager to display him next spring. Ai’d to the popular and easy calving Cavill should get her off to a nice start.

Full Fleckvieh A soggy sided polled heifer with lots of body that will develop into an attractive broody made cow. We are strong believers in cow families and Amber stems from a good one. We bought her dam from our nephew Kyler in 2019. Ambers grand dam Rubyette 237Z was his astute pick of the heifers when he entered Grade 1 and started his herd. This is the same cow family as Rumble. A full sibling to Amber is in the bull calf group and a maternal sister sold to Richlan last year. The first Electric Avenue daughters calved this past year, and we are extremely excited about the first indications of what they’ll be capable of. Observed bred to WJS Ego for a January calf.

Full Fleckvieh A heifer that really ties things together. Dark red, good hair, deep body and an abundance of muscle. She looks to be dropping a nice udder much like her Magnum dam. Magnum daughters are certainly proving their worth here. Sari has been a feature of the group since the start. Starting out at just 75 lbs she quickly turned on the growth and was one of the heaviest weaning calves last fall. Her sire Ego worked his way from a clean up heifer bull to getting a pen of some good cows this year due to progeny like this. Ego also produced our high selling open heifer in this spring bull sale. She’s carrying a service to Grinalta’s HP Bravo to give a polled calf that should have lots of eye appeal.

FLECKVIEH This heifer is probably the highlight of KSL Hurley’s calf crop this year. Cookie is so complete that I dare to say flawless. She is very correct in her stance, great feet and as deep and thick as they come in a soggy smooth polled package. Her mother is an easy keeping 10 year old cow with a beautiful udder that can also be described “same as above”. There is lots of sprinkles on this Cookie

100% FULL FLECKVIEH Hurley was KSL’s high selling yearling bull on their 2021 bull sale. He sure left us with a nice group of heifers and Glitter is a prime example. A real fancy heifer with a little different pedigree that is really smooth made with lots of capacity and has an unbeatable temperament. Glitter will bring a lot to your program year after year. Anchor D Guinness was the high selling French Attack son in the 2021 Genetic Edge bull sale. We were really impressed with his body depth and incredible hip as these were traits we wanted to add in continually trying to improve our polled program. Her dam Eden is a sweetheart and has fit in very well in our herd. She had a bred heifer in the Harvest sale last year that sold to Gary Waldron and Pol Melody is the beauty she raised this year. Melody is smooth polled, long, deep, very attractive and easy to work with. She would be a good one to bring home

“Kamilia” was a heifer that was never supposed to be leaving the farm. When we committed to bringing two from the top of the pen she fell into that group. We feel she is the complete package with the hair coat, quiet disposition, bold ribbed and big topped and sired by Sibelle pol Synergy we are confident Kamilia will be a front pasture female for her new owner. Jagger’s pedigree is well worth analyzing, Ramano, Barbosa, Legend, Solway Adonis, Whistler. Jagger is another moderate framed bull with great feet and legs with great fluid motion in his step.
