COVER STORY
Margot Robbie The Gold Coast golden girl who’s more than just a pretty face.
8 LABEL MAGAZINE WINTER 2016
Every now and again an actress comes along who grabs the audience’s attention, and just won’t let go. The Gold Coast’s Margot Robbie has done just that, going from soapie starlet to A-lister in just eight relatively short years. Her latest role, starring as the bubbly and psychotic Harley Quinn in DC Films’ upcoming Suicide Squad alongside Jared Leto sees her stretching her range from the beautiful bombshell roles we are used to. It’s a choice that is hardly surprising; the actress has made no secret of her to desire to be known for being more than just another pretty face. “I know that my look is more ‘toothpaste model’ as opposed to artsy, which sucks because I can play those roles,” she told Marie Claire. “Harley is creepy, violent, crazy — all of the things that I aspire to be! No. It’s the fun of living vicariously through someone who is doing things that I would never do in real life,” Margot told Esquire. Playing a strong, if crazy, woman is important to the actress, who struggles against Hollywood’s traditional tendency of pigeon-holing women in film. “There are a lot of good female roles out there now and I read a lot of them,” she told Elle. “It’s not so much the dumb blonde anymore, but there is still a lot of the male is a protagonist and the female character, even though she is not a dumb blonde is still very much supporting his role in his story line’. And if you took her out, the film probably could still go on. That is kind of frustrating to see. But it’s good and it’s encouraging to see that there are more cool female roles out there. And aside from that, it is a big shift to see more female protagonist and female-driven films.” It’s been a fairly swift ride to Hollywood A-Lister for Margot.
Margot Robbie attends the premiere of The Wolf of Wall Street
Born in 1990 on the Gold Coast, she was raised by her single mother with three siblings (for her beloved mum’s 60th birthday, Margot allegedly paid off her entire mortgage). Studying at Somerset College here on the Gold Coast, she took drama as a subject, and moved to Melbourne at 17 to pursue acting professionally. In 2008, she was cast in Neighbours, where she stayed for three years, honing her skills and working with acting and dialogue coaches between takes to perfect her American accent, before packing up and heading to Hollywood in 2011. “It felt like the only way to keep moving forward,” she told the Sunday Express. “It seemed like the logical next move – a big one for sure and definitely terrifying, but I did a lot of planning and saved all my money.”
Margot Robbie as the psychotic Harley Quinn in the upcoming Suicide Squad
Once in Los Angeles, she was cast in the ABC drama Pan Am, which was cancelled after only one season. She was then cast in the Richard Curtis comedy About Time alongside Bill Nighy, Rachel McAdams and Domhnall Gleeson. But her big Hollywood break came when she was cast as Naomi, the wife of Leonardo DiCaprio’s corrupt stockbroker character in Martin Scorsese’s 2013 film The Wolf of Wall Street, which grossed $392 million and was nominated for five academy awards. In her audition for the role, Leonardo DiCaprio started improvising, so Margot went off script and slapped him in the face, a move which impressed him so much he asked her to do it again.

COVER STORY “I’m thinking ‘You just hit Leonardo DiCaprio in the face. They’re going to arrest you because that’s assault. You’re definitely never going to work again, that’s for sure. They’ll probably sue you as well in case there’s a bruise on his face and he needs to film something else’,” she told Harper’s Bazaar. She didn’t get sued. In fact, she got the part. And the rest is Hollywood history. Her charm, beauty and balls saw her fast tracked as a rising star on the A-list. Respected film critic Sasha Stone described Margot Robbie as “…Scorsese’s best blonde bombshell discovery since Cathy Moriarty in Raging Bull. She is funny, hard and kills every scene she’s in.” After The Wolf of Wall Street, she appeared in Z for Zachariah and Suite Francaise before yet another career-defining role starring opposite Will Smith in Focus in 2015. Focus co-director John Requa spotted her determination and ability beyond capturing the camera. “Glenn Ficcara (Focus co-director) and Will Smith and I have a combined 60-odd years of film experience, and yet she would be like ‘No boys, you can’t do that.’,” he said of working with Margot. “She’s really sharp, she’s got a bright future. She has the instincts; a director recognises a director, and she’s got it.” Directing may be in her future, but her present is full of meaty roles.
Will Smith, Margot Robbie & Rodrigo Santoro at the Los Angeles premiere of their movie Focus.
She recently starred as Jane Porter in the upcoming The Legend of Tarzan alongside Alexander Skarsgård, directed by David Yates. Her most recent release is Whisky Tango Foxtrot, in which she plays a British journalist working in Afghanistan alongside Tina Fey, and she has just been cast as disgraced ice-skater Tonya Harding in the upcoming biopic I, Tonya. Personally, Margot seems to have escaped the Hollywood curse. We don’t see images of her stumbling out of nightclubs or checking into rehab facilities. She currently lives in London in a share house with friends, although she travels the world for her career. Keeping it real is important for the 25-yearold. “I have a normal life,” she told Marie Claire. “If I were a waitress, I’d probably have the exact same lifestyle. I’d go to the same clubs I go to already, live in the same house with the same housemates, hang out with the same people.” Although she has been the subject of many tabloid rumours (which she denies), including an alleged affair with Will Smith, and relationships with Orlando Bloom and Leonardo DiCaprio, in truth she has been dating Assistant Director Tom Ackerley since 2014, when they met on the set of Suite Francaise.
Margot Robbie with Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio in The Wolf of Wall Street.
“If people are talking about me, I want it to be because of the work I’m doing and not the person I’m seeing,” Margot told Sunday Style. People are definitely talking about her, and it’s all because of the work. An actress with incredible range – from comedy to drama – Margot Robbie looks set to stay on our screens for some time to come. And while she may be the darling of Hollywood, in her heart she is still a wide-eyed Gold Coast girl, who can’t quite believe her luck. “I was pinching myself when I was on Neighbours, and I’m definitely still pinching myself now,” she says.

INFALLIBLE FASHION Things are heating up over at the Carriageworks. Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia 2016 amplified its international acclaim with the adored Bella Hadid, the edgy supermodel sister of former Label cover girl Gigi. Bella walked for Misha Collection – and owned it – before jumping back on a jet to appear at Cannes. More than 130 shows in the week of May 15 set the tone for a sensational season of fashion ahead, featuring decadent mixed-decade influences. MBFW Australia began with none other than Toni Maticevski and went on to feature international headliners Oscar de la Renta and Cynthia Rowley along the way. The Maticevski moment brought all our red carpet fantasies to life in glimmering gold; the delicate shimmer vibe was also felt by Dion Lee, We Are Kindred and Steven Khalil. Rebecca Valance portrayed the accessible way to dress like Sofia Vergara at a Sunday barbecue - a similarly vibrant acidic palette also enjoyed by Manning Cartell. On the nude side was a satin-finish Bec & Bridge, an impeccable C/MEO COLLECTIVE blush jumpsuit, Daniel Avakian’s silken suiting and Misha Collection’s assassin-posing-asa-callgirl vision with goddess Bella. In blue hues, Camilla had us booking a trip to Morocco, Ginger & Smart delivered printed flouncy feelings and, warming up to purple tones, Karla Spetic reworked the wallflower with feminine edge.

Behind the Brand Anna Brocklebank began her jeweller journey in Sydney with 32.4 grams of silver. Now draping fearless fine jewels around the necks of cool girls around the world, Anna divulges the desire to create that lead her to founding jewellery label 32.4. Where did your jewellery design journey begin? I have always been drawn to jewellery and the stories it can hold. They are little treasures that you can keep with you forever. Also my personal style is fairly minimal, slightly androgynous looks paired with layered jewellery to make it your own. I was working full-time as a graphic designer and was craving a more purely creative outlet that I could exercise my aesthetic in. I enrolled in a jewellerymaking course and started making pieces for myself, the rest organically developed from there. How would you describe your design aesthetic? Refined, beautiful structures but with boldness and a little hidden attitude. What has been your favourite design to date? Tricky! Rings have always been my favourite pieces. I wear the With One Step pinky ring everyday. It’s a modern take on a signet ring - I love the feel of it on and how easy it is to wear. It goes with everything and instantly changes your look. I think it is a good representation of the 32.4 aesthetic. Which piece of jewellery is your ultimate keepsake? I have a super beautiful and simple yet unique trigold bangle that my Mum and Gran gave me for my 21st birthday. I remember looking for hours with my Mum and then I saw it and tried it on; it was perfect. They then got it engraved inside. I think it will always be my most special piece of jewellery as it holds memories and, looking back, it was the beginning of me mixing metals and finding my jewellery aesthetic. Where do you seek inspiration? I am constantly looking at architecture and product design - how the pieces come together and the shapes form, the feeling it gives you. I think this inherently comes through in the designs but mostly pieces build off previous pieces. Which pieces do we need to wear this winter? I am always drawn to bolder rings for Winter (can you tell I love rings?!). A few bold rings layered with one or two fine ones and a simple pair of hoops are the perfect staples for the cooler months. I also love a clean-cut shirt with a few layered necklaces. Where is 32.4 venturing next? We have just launched our Core Collection Part 01, I feel like with this and the next collection I have really grasped the 32.4 aesthetic and where I want to take the brand. I am also looking at different ways to release collections and timings - myself and the label have recently moved to London, so now we have a studio base there as well as a base in Australia. This city is a whole new wealth of inspiration, experiences and opportunities; there are many exciting things ahead. www.thirtytwopointfour.com 26 LABEL MAGAZINE WINTER 2016

EAT & DRINK In the year of Acqua Panna’s 450th anniversary on June 17, 2014, the Tuscan Region acknowledged Acqua Panna as a 100% Tuscan product of excellence, allowing Acqua Panna to carry the Tuscan Taste logo, previously only given to wine producers. The new Acqua Panna label tells this story; from the hills of Tuscany and the Medici Estate Villa Panna, to the fleur-de-lis; a symbol of Florence and the water, and to the four and a half centuries during which time Acqua Panna has become appreciated far beyond the boundaries of its land.

DESSERTS TO DIE FOR Trish Deseine shares recipes from her latest book 100 Desserts to Die For. MILK CHOCOLATE AND SALTED BUTTER CARAMEL MOUSSE Serves 6 / 10 mins preparation time / 5 hrs refrigeration time This is a classic that seems to please the majority of people. If you can, use a good quality milk chocolate with a cocoa content of more than 35 percent. Ingredients • 100 g caster (superfine) sugar • 200 ml thin (pouring/whipping) cream • 50 g lightly salted butter • 200 g milk chocolate • 3 eggs
44 LABEL MAGAZINE WINTER 2016
Method 1. (To make the caramel) Place the sugar and 1 tablespoon of water in a saucepan. Bring to the boil, then simmer until the syrup caramelises. 2. Heat the cream in another saucepan. Take the caramel off the heat and add the butter and hot cream. Stir well to dissolve any clumps of sugar that form. 3. Cool the caramel slightly before adding the chocolate, broken up into pieces. Stir to melt the chocolate. 4. Once the mixture has completely cooled, separate the eggs and beat the whites to soft peaks using an electric beater. 5. Lightly beat the yolks and add them to the chocolate cream. 6. Next, fold the egg whites very gently into the chocolate cream, lifting and turning the chocolate cream with a flexible spatula. 7. Divide the mousse between glasses, small dessert bowls or ramekins, then let them set in the fridge for at least 4–5 hours before
RECIPES CHOCOLATE, PEANUT BUTTER AND OREO BISCUIT TART Serves 8–10 / 25 mins preparation time / 30 mins cooking time / 1 hr resting time. Perhaps the ‘trashiest’ recipe I have created in the last few years ... But you have to let yourself go sometimes, my friends! Ingredients • About 20 Oreo® cookies • 175 g unsalted butter • 400 g crunchy peanut butter • 175 g icing (confectioners’) sugar • 200 g very good quality dark chocolate Method 1. Finely grind the cookies in a food processor. 2. Melt 75 g of the butter and combine it with the cookie crumbs. Place this mixture in the base of a round 24 cm (91⁄2 inch) tart (flan) tin (preferably loose-based), then let it set in the fridge for about 30 minutes. 3. Once it has set, beat the peanut butter with the sugar in a mixing bowl. Spread this mixture over the tart base. 4. Melt the rest of the butter and the chocolate very gently in the microwave (in 30-second bursts, stirring between each one) or in a double boiler (in a mixing bowl placed over a saucepan of gently simmering water). 5. Stir well until the chocolate is smooth. 6. Pour the chocolate over the peanut butter. Let the tart set for 1 hour in a cool place, avoiding the fridge so the chocolate keeps its glossy appearance.
YOGHURT CAKE WITH HONEY, ROSEWATER AND PISTACHIOS Serves 8–10 / 20 mins preparation time / 50 mins cooking time I first tasted this cake (and stole the recipe!) in Ireland, visiting some friends who are fantastic bakers. This recipe comes from one of the books of the sweet and lovely Rachel Allen, the Irish fairy of home cooking. Ingredients for the cake • 225 g plain (all-purpose) flour • 1 teaspoon baking powder • 100 g caster (superfine) sugar • 75 g almond meal • 2 eggs • 1 tablespoon honey • 250 ml plain yoghurt • 150 ml sunflower oil • Grated zest of 1 lime • 100 g pistachios, chopped Ingredients for the syrup • 100 g caster (superfine) sugar • Juice of 1 lime (or 2 limes if not very juicy) • 1 teaspoon rosewater Method 1. (To make the cake). Preheat the oven to 180°C. Butter and flour a 20 cm (8 inch) round cake tin. Sift the flour and baking powder into a mixing bowl, then add the sugar and almond meal. 2. In another mixing bowl, whisk the eggs with the honey, yoghurt, oil and lime zest. Pour this batter into the bowl containing the dry ingredients and beat for about 1 minute, until the mixture is uniform. 3. Add the pistachios to the batter (reserve some for decoration) and mix well, then pour the batter into the cake tin. Bake for about 50 minutes. 4. Meanwhile, make the syrup: Combine the sugar and 150 ml of water in a saucepan, then bring them to the boil and simmer until the syrup reduces by half. Let the mixture cool before adding the lime juice and rosewater. 5. Check whether the cake is cooked by inserting the blade of a knife into the middle; it is cooked if the blade comes out clean. Take the cake out of the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before pouring the syrup over the top. If you like, you can prick the cake in a few places to help the syrup penetrate the cake. 6. Let the cake cool completely in the tin, until the syrup forms a lovely crust on top. Decorate with a few pistachios and serve.

Hipster Cannelloni The fruit trees are a little bare this season, with citrus, kiwifruit and grapefruit filling up the regular section of your local grocery store. Winter is the season for roasting. Potatoes, cauliflower, brussel sprouts and carrots are screaming for a little salt and oil, while silverbeet, mushroom and spinach are ready to be sautéed. Then there’s fennel. He’s the guy for every party. But for me, Label’s resident gourmet girl Ava, there’s no better cuisine suited to chilly nights than Italian, and this time, it’s with a Gen Y touch. The hipster cannelloni is best paired with a cool beard and organic wine to bring out the goodness of locally grown Queensland blue pumpkin and, if you recognised the flower in this insta-styled photograph, kale. The Paltrow-endorsed super veggie is a surprisingly ideal replacement for spinach in this dish as it wont lose volume or texture, complimenting the creamy goodness of the ricotta and relishing the buttery crunch of pine nuts. This rustic recipe makes 10 and will serve five people as a main course. INGREDIENTS 500g ricotta 1 tbsp chilli 1 pinch nutmeg 75g grated parmesan cheese 1/8 Queensland blue pumpkin, chopped into 1cm cubes 1/4 cup pine nuts 2 onions, quartered 2 loosely packed cups of roughly chopped kale (around 3 large fronds, stalks removed) 1 loosely packed cup of basil leaves, roughly chopped 5 tbsp extra virgin olive oil

1 tsp seasalt flakes 250g pasta sheets 4 garlic cloves, skin on and base trimmed 1 eggs 700g passata 220g bocconcini, 5mm thick slices 1 24cm x 60cm baking dish METHOD 1. Preheat oven to 180C. 2. Place onions, pumpkin, garlic, chilli, pine nuts, seasalt flakes and oil in a bowl, toss to coat with oil evenly. 3. Pour out onto baking tray and cook for 20 minutes. Cool and remove garlic from its shell, chopping roughly. 4. Mix ricotta, eggs, kale, basil, nutmeg and parmesan in a large bowl. Add baked vegetables and mix in gently with your hands so as to not squash the pumpkin cubes. 5. Cut the pasta sheets to measure approximately 8cm wide and 11cm long. 6. Drizzle the bottom of the baking dish with 2 tbsp olive oil. 7. Hold the pasta sheet in your hand and fill with 4 tbsp of the ricotta mix. 8. Roll up the cannelloni and place in the dish with the loose end side down. 9. Pour passata over cannelloni, then fill the empty bottle with water and add to the dish. 10. Arrange the bocconcini slices on top of the cannelloni. 11. Bake at 180C for 90 minutes and serve before the cheese stiffens.

MOO MOO CELEBRATES A DECADE OF LADIES LUNCHES Ten years ago when Autumn Adams, co-owner of Moo Moo The Wine Bar + Grill, hosted her first luncheon she never imagined that a decade later it would have grown to become one of the premiere events on the Gold Coast social calendar. What started out as a simple luncheon for just 18 women, has grown to become a bi-monthly event with a guest list topping 100 plus. More than just a fun day out, the events have raised over $300,000 for various charities including Careflight, Guide Dogs, Animal Welfare League, Ride to Conquer Cancer, Kokoda Challenge, Radio Lollipop, and I can I will. Last year, the lunches, which are sponsored by Chandon and have showcased a huge array of local musicians and entertainers, launched in Brisbane, and have quickly become a popular institution there too. The first lunch in the newly renovated Moo Moo was held in May and was a huge success. Autumn tells Label Magazine she is looking forward to hosting the next decade of fun, fizz and frivolity. Upcoming dates: Gold Coast, July 21, September 29, and December 8; Brisbane June 17, September 9, and November 18.

Let your t-shirt do the talking Need a bed, toilet or meal and don’t know the word? This t-shirt can do all the talking. The Iconspeak T-shirt lets you simply point to what you need, and you will be understood no matter where you are. Iconspeak, was formed by Swiss travellers Florian Nast, George Horn and Stefan Streit, who came up with the idea of using pictures to communicate when one of their motorbikes broke down during a trip in Vietnam. The group found themselves in a village where no one spoke English or French. In order to get what they needed to fix the bike, George Horn began drawing symbols on paper and showing them to locals. The process worked so well, they used them again and again in other situations, and then Iconspeak was born. The icons have been rigorously tested to ensure they don’t cause offence if worn anywhere in the world and do not feature any religious symbols; something which the company decided against just to be ‘on the safe side’. Pilots uniforms fly back in time Qantas has unveiled the latest pilot uniform for its almost 3,000 domestic, international and regional pilots. Created by Australian fashion designer Martin Grant, the navy suit is modern and sleek, with nostalgic design features linking back to the first Qantas pilot uniforms from the 1930s. The new look is a modern, single-breasted, navy suit in a streamlined cut with a narrow trouser for males, and a more feminine version for women, including a specific female tie. The fabric is lighter, the shirt is more fitted and the gold stripes used to define rank are finer to give a more elegant look. The back of the jacket also features a red vent to add a splash of colour. Pilots will be wearing the new design by the end of 2016.

THE WORLD’S FIRST LUXURY COMPACT SUV CONVERTIBLE Ironwoman and television star Courtney Hancock presents the All-New Range Rover Evoque Convertible. Bruce Lynton brand ambassador and super athlete Courtney Hancock says she is thrilled to present the all new Range Rover Evoque Convertible, the world’s first luxury compact SUV convertible. Courtney and the Evoque are the perfect partnership. Both sporty, classy and leaders in their field. Courtney, who was born in Perth and raised in Sawtell on the North Coast of NSW, joined the Nippers when she was just five years old. After relocating to the Gold Coast and joining BMD Northcliffe Surf Club when she was 19, she has gone from strength to strength, winning multiple Australian and Professional Ironwoman Series Titles in 2011 and 2013, as well as the 2011 Coolangatta Gold, thus becoming the first person to win Surf Life Saving’s “triple crown” of elite events (in the same year) in the history of Australian surf sports. She has gone on to become one of the Gold Coast’s most beloved media personalities. Courtney became a brand ambassador for Bruce Lynton in 2014, and this issue she presents the Range Rover Evoque Convertible. Available at Bruce Lynton from October, the Evoque Convertible combines the bold design and refinement of Evoque with comprehensive specification and a sophisticated folding roof to create a no compromise, all-season convertible. As the fifth member of the Range Rover family – and the first ever convertible – the highly desirable new model combines traditional Range Rover luxury with a distinctive four-seat design and versatile storage. Evoque Convertible’s eye-catching exterior design is made possible by a sophisticated fabric roof shaped to create a crisply defined silhouette that remains faithful to the original design. Its Z-fold mechanism lays flush with the rear bodywork for a sleek, uncluttered appearance when lowered. The fabric roof is the longest and widest currently fitted to any vehicle on sale today. The fully-automated roof stows in 18 seconds, and can be raised in 21 seconds, at speeds up to 50kph. When closed it provides high standards of refinement with a layer of acoustic insulation ensuring interior comfort on a par with five-door Evoque. In addition, the position of the roof doesn’t affect loadspace, with a generous 251-litre boot offering unrivalled practicality for a convertible.
At the heart of the high-class cabin is an all-new, high-resolution 10.2-inch touchscreen with Jaguar Land Rover’s next-generation infotainment system, InControl™ Touch Pro, which debuts in a Land Rover. Raising the standard of connectivity for the brand, the highlyresponsive and super-fast InControl™ Touch Pro offers seamless smartphone integration, door-to-door navigation and a premium sound system. Of course, safety hasn’t been overlooked with a Roll-Over Protection Device featuring deployable roll-over bars hidden in the rear bodywork. It deploys two aluminium bars within 90 milliseconds in the unlikely event of a roll-over situation to create a survival space for occupants. Evoque Convertible is underpinned by Land Rover’s world-class allterrain capability, using the same advanced technologies as Evoque five-door and Coupé derivatives. A customary choice of four-wheel drive powertrains combines with Land Rover’s nine-speed automatic transmission, Terrain Response® system, Wade Sensing and AllTerrain Progress Control to ensure Evoque is a convertible for all seasons. FAMOUS FAMILY FEUDS In some celebrity cases, dying is just the beginning of the drama
Deadly DIY Estate Planning Specialist Richard Dawson says DIY will kits can end in disaster. Most of us work tirelessly over our lives to accumulate our wealth with the intention that we pass that wealth on to the next generation after our death. In the interest of saving a few dollars, people often resort to the use of DoIt-Yourself (DIY) Will kits, colloquially known as the newsagency Will. DIY Wills have a myriad of pitfalls for the unsuspecting user. Respected Gold Coast Estate Planning Lawyer Richard Dawson says to avoid these DIY Wills at all costs. DIY Wills have many “fill in the blanks” sections which, if completed correctly, created a legally binding document. If not, then lawyers are usually engaged in a very expensive exercise of determining what the Will-maker intended before their death. DIY Wills usually cost around $30-$40. The Will-maker then has to spend time completing the DIY Will with the hope that it accurately reflects their wishes. In comparison, a simple straight-forward Will prepared by a lawyer is a very cheap alternative while knowing you have peace of mind. Estate law stipulates very strict requirements regarding the preparation of, signing and administration of Wills. One tiny error could render the Will entirely invalid. If this occurs then the deceased person is said to have died ‘intestate’, that is, without a valid Will. When a person dies intestate an application must be made to the Supreme Court before a their estate can be properly and legally administered. Depending on the circumstances, the person who has the right to apply to the court may be very different from the person the Will-maker originally intended. Richard recommends any person contemplating making their Will should always use a qualified, experienced, estate planning lawyer so as to avoid the costly expense and anguish associated with Supreme Court applications. Put simply, news agencies should be seen only as a place to purchase your papers, magazines and lotto tickets, not a one-stop-shop for your legal documents. Having a lawyer prepare your Will is not only sound estate planning advice but highly recommended if you want your wishes upheld and to protect your hard-earned assets. Richard says the cost of professional legally prepared Wills is insignificant in comparison to the costs of a Supreme Court application. ANNA NICOLE SMITH Anna Nicole Smith’s battle for the $1.6 billion fortune of her late husband, Texas oil tycoon J. Howard Marshall II, was so complex, it became part of the widely used textbook Wills, Trusts and Estates. Later, when she died in 2007, her poorly drafted will and the resulting court battle over her body became a teaching tool for law professors in the USA.
LEONA HELMSLEY Billionaire businesswoman Leona Helmsley’s will became one of the most talked about in history when she left $12 million to her Maltese, aptly named Trouble, specifically leaving out two of her grandchildren with the ominous line “they know the reasons”. Poor old Trouble received death threats (his annual security costs blew out to over $100,000 at one point), until a judge ruled that Trouble was to receive $2 million and the left out grandkids would receive $6 million each.
JAMES BROWN Ten years after his death, James Brown’s $50 million estate is still in limbo. Unlike his chaotic life, the singer’s will was organised and seemingly clear, leaving most of his estate to a charity for disadvantaged youths. This didn’t sit well with some of the family and a will contest battle has waged ever since, with no end in sight.

HOROSCOPES FAMOUS STAR SIGNS: Gemini. Prince, June 7, 1958 Cancer. Ariana Grande, June 26, 1993. Leo. Jennifer Lawrence, August 15, 1990.
There are some challenging times ahead for Geminis, Cancers and Leos. Geminis it’s time to break old habits. You keep saying you want things to change but you aren’t doing what’s needed to change them. The good news is, once you set your mind to it, it will happen oh-so quickly. Cancers, you need to focus on the future. Things have been going so well that you haven’t thought to look past tomorrow, but now is the time to take stock and make a plan. For Leos, it’s time to stop with the selfsabotaging talk and give yourself a little credit. You’ve done some incredible things over the past few months so stop and give yourself a little credit.
STARS GEMINI May 21-June 20 Ever get the feeling you have been here before? Maybe that’s because you have. You have been exactly where you are today many, many times. And you’re not happy about it. How to change, that’s the big question. The answer is simple: start by identifying what you really want to change, then start implementing. Start small, baby steps. You’ll be surprised at how quickly you can turn it around. Stars: Prince, Anna Kournikova, Liam Neeson. CANCER June 21-July 22 Everything seems to be going your way Cancer. So why do you have that sinking feeling? Have you forgotten something? Yes. You’ve been so busy in the now, that you haven’t been paying attention to the future, and it will creep up on you. Enjoy your success in the moment but make sure you keep one eye on the long game. Stars: Ariana Grande, Kevin Hart, Will Ferrell. LEO July 23-August 22 You’re always so hard on yourself Leo. Of course it’s good to give yourself a kick start occasionally, but you take it too far. Try applying some of that empathy and compassion you are so well known for on yourself. We all make mistakes, and yes you have too, but you are achieving more than you give yourself credit for. Take time to recognise that or the weight of your self-criticism will take its toll. Stars: Jennifer Lawrence, Whitney Houston, Madonna. VIRGO August 23-September 22 As much as you’d like it to be, life isn’t a movie. This is real. This is your life. And if you spend too much time wishing for what might be, you’ll miss it. Try looking at the lives you envy so and breaking down exactly what it is you envy. You’ll see it’s all completely achievable for you – and in some instances, you actually already have it. 78 LABEL MAGAZINE WINTER 2016
Keep your eye on finances too. Stars: Pink, Cameron Diaz, Jimmy Fallon
Look beyond the surface to what someone’s motives might really be. Stars: Meghan Trainor, Elvis Presley, Michelle Obama.
LIBRA September 23-October 22
AQUARIUS January 20-February 18
It hasn’t been the easiest time for you lately and you have taken your share of hard knocks. The good news? It’s almost over. The even better news? You will emerge stronger and smarter, as long as you take some time to reflect. Now is the time to look and back and see the part you have played in the situations that caused you so much pain. Then start afresh. Tomorrow will be better. Stars: Kim Kardashian, John Lennon, Will Smith.
Honesty is one of your greatest qualities, so why have you let that slip? Honesty isn’t just about telling the whole truth and nothing but the truth. Honesty is something that’s in your heart. And your heart hasn’t been telling the truth. Letting go of any relationship is hard but in the long run it’s easier than living a lie. Stars: Ellen DeGeneres, Jennifer Aniston, Oprah Winfrey.
SCORPIO October 23-November 21 You are a strong, even stubborn one aren’t you? There’s no doubting you are a high achiever, but do you sometimes feel a bit hollow in your righteousness? It’s time to recognise that what works for you, doesn’t have to work for everyone. Each to their own. Live and let live. Stop trying to dictate how others behave and focus on your own life, or you may find you start losing friends. Stars: Shailene Woodley, Lorde, Emma Stone. SAGITTARIUS November 22-December 21 You have made it through a challenging time and now you need to focus on fun. Get out there and enjoy your life. You can stop focusing on everyone else for a while – and start focusing on you. What do you want your life to look like. Taking care of others is all well and good, but you need to focus on you. A lovely surprise awaits you soon. Stars: Taylor Swift, Brad Pitt, Sia. CAPRICORN December 22-January 19 People are drawn to you for a variety of reasons, but beware over coming months of people who are drawn to you for their own agenda. You have a habit of trusting too blindly (even though you caution others against it) and it is easy to be taken advantage of when you are only seeing what you want to see.
PISCES February 19-March 20 It’s a happy time for you coming up. Lots of positive things on the horizon. Of course, they require you to make them happen. Start saying yes more than you say no. Start seeing the silver lining and not the clouds. If you can do that, there is a lot of good coming your way. Watch your spending in July. Stars: Albert Einstein, Kesha, Rihanna. ARIES March 21-April 19 It feels like it has taken years but you are finally at a place where you know who you are and you are comfortable with it. This hasn’t come easy to you, so you need to treat it as a precious gift. Don’t let anyone or anything undermine it, or it will be years before you are back here. Your thoughts become your reality so keep your thoughts positive and focused. Stars: Lady Gaga, Jessie J, Robert Downey Jnr. TAURUS April 20-May 20 You may not be quite as strong and stoic as you like everyone to believe. You get hurt just like the rest of us. Perhaps it’s time to drop the tough guy act and let people know that what they say and do impacts on you. Keeping it all bottled up inside is starting to affect your health – and you know it. Keep yourself warm this winter – and not just physically. Stars: Channing Tatum, Queen Elizabeth II, David Beckham.
