En este mes de mayo, nos encontramos con una de las celebraciones más significativas y emotivas: el Día de las Madres. Es un momento para honrar a las mujeres extraordinarias que nos dieron vida, amor y guía a lo largo de nuestro camino. En la Isla Magazine hemos tenido el privilegio de conocer a muchas madres ejemplares, y este año nos complace destacar a una de ellas.

Entrevistamos a Patricia Urriola, una madre que personifica la entrega, fortaleza y el amor inquebrantable por su hogar y por la comunidad. Su historia inspiradora nos recordó el papel fundamental que desempeñan las madres en nuestras vidas y en la sociedad.

Además, en esta ocasión especial, queremos expresar nuestro más sincero agradecimiento a todas las madres de los miembros de nuestro equipo de La Isla Magazine. Su apoyo, amor y dedicación

CELEBRATING MOTHER'S DAY: A TRIBUTE TO THEIR UNCONDITIONAL LOVE

In this month of May, we encounter one of the most meaningful and emotionally resonant celebrations: Mother's Day. It is a time to pay homage to the remarkable women who bestowed upon us life, love, and guidance throughout our journey. Within the La Isla community, we have been privileged to acquaint ourselves with many exemplary mothers, and this year, we are pleased to highlight one of them.

We had the honor of interviewing Patricia Urriola, a mother who epitomizes dedication, strength, and unwavering love for her home and community. Her inspiring story serves as a poignant reminder of the pivotal role mothers play in our lives and society.

Furthermore, on this special occasion, we wish to extend our sincerest gratitude to all the mothers of the members of our La

Isla Magazine team. Their support, love, and dedication do not go unnoticed; we are eternally grateful for all they do.

To make this Mother's Day even more special, we would like to invite our beloved community to participate. PATRICIA URRIOLA UN EJEMPLO DE FUERZA Y DETERMINACIÓN MATERNAL

Patricia Urriola de Millán es una madre cuya historia refleja no solo el amor incondicional por sus hijos, sino también la valentía y determinación para enfrentar los desafíos que la vida le ha presentado. A través de sus palabras, podemos vislumbrar la profundidad de sus experiencias y el compromiso que tiene con su familia y la comunidad.

EL PODER DEL AMOR MATERNAL

Ella considera que las madres son: "súper poderosas, tenemos súper poderes. que, creo, nadie supera. Y el amor de madre

mueve montañas. La satisfacción de ser mamá te hace crecer, te hace aprender, sobre todo aprender a dar, a dar sin esperar nada a cambio".

Detrás de cada sonrisa de Patricia yace un mensaje profundo de gratitud, un legado de amor que ha transmitido a sus hijos. Con cada gesto, cada palabra, ella les enseña el valor de apreciar las bendiciones de la vida, incluso en medio de los desafíos.

GRATITUD

"A mis hijos quiero agradecerles por ser ellos, por ser tan especiales y hacerme

sentir a mí tan especial", expresa con una emoción palpable. Con cada obstáculo que enfrentan juntos, Patricia les recuerda la importancia de agradecer, no solo las alegrías, sino también las lecciones que la vida les ofrece.

AFRONTANDO DESAFÍOS

Uno de los momentos más desafiantes en la vida de Patricia y su familia fue cuando recibieron el diagnóstico de su hijo menor. "Recibieron el diagnóstico de autismo de Juan Pablo fue un momento transformador para nuestra familia. Nos enfrentamos a desafíos significativos, pero también encontramos una gran fuerza y unidad".

ENCONTRANDO APOYO EN LA COMUNIDAD

Descubrir esperanza en la comunidad puede cambiar vidas de maneras inimaginables. Su testimonio es conmovedor,"Gracias a Dios, me encontré con PASOs, una maravillosa organización que ofrece una red de apoyo y recursos vitales para familias que enfrentan desafíos. No podía creer que hubiera tanta atención; es decir, mi hijo recibió todas las atenciones como si hubiera nacido aquí. Recibió ese tipo de servicios que van a casa, dan terapias, te conectan con tantas cosas, y estoy sumamente agradecida por todas estas oportunidades que le dieron a mi hijo. Fue entonces cuando comencé a hacer trabajo voluntario con PASOs, al mismo tiempo que trabajaba en La Isla Magazine. Le agradezco mucho al señor Eric Esquivel porque él me dio la oportunidad de trabajar y llevar a mis hijos a todos lados conmigo. Luego recibi la propuesta de trabajar con PASOs y acepte."

UNA FAMILIA AUTISTA

A través del amor y el apoyo mutuo, han aprendido a aceptar y celebrar la autenticidad de Juan Pablo. "Juan Pablo nos ha enseñado a crecer en lo auténtico, en respetar lo auténtico. Nos costó mucho, pero ha sido inspirador, nos convertimos en una familia autista. Hablo de familias porque tenemos que involucrarnos todos para apoyarlos en su integración en la sociedad".

INTEGRACIÓN Y COMPRENSIÓN

Patricia reflexiona sobre la importancia de entender y aceptar las diferencias de percepción de los niños autistas "ellos ven las cosas de una manera diferente que nosotros, pero no significa que no lo vean, que no lo presencien, que no estén

allí para vivirlo". Para ella, como madre, es fundamental empoderar a otras mujeres, ya que son ellas quienes enfrentan diariamente los desafíos de criar a hijos con necesidades especiales. Reconoce el esfuerzo que implica asegurarse de que sus hijos estén involucrados en actividades que promuevan una mente sana y un cuerpo saludable, como el deporte, la terapia y las visitas médicas, así como una alimentación adecuada y el seguimiento de tratamientos.

Patricia destaca la importancia de comprender que el autismo no es una enfermedad con una solución rápida, sino una condición de vida que requiere apoyo y comprensión, lo cual es crucial para brindar el mejor apoyo a los niños.

HACIA UN MUNDO MÁS INCLUSIVO

Su compromiso con la inclusión la llevó a crear, junto con PASOs y Jenny Nuvan de Family Connection, el programa "Caminando Juntos", una iniciativa dedicada a apoyar a familias que tienen niños con necesidades especiales. "Caminando Juntos es una parte fundamental de mi vida. Es un programa que ofrece apoyo y recursos vitales a familias que enfrentan desafíos similares a los nuestros. Es gratificante que las mamitas que están en el grupo se apoyen entre ellas".

En cuanto a la integración y comprensión de las necesidades de los niños con neurodiversidad, Patricia reconoce que aún hay camino por recorrer. Sin embargo, su compromiso con PASOs

y otros esfuerzos comunitarios refleja su determinación de crear un mundo más inclusivo y comprensivo para todos.

APOYO A LAS FUTURAS MADRES

Pero el compromiso de Patricia no se detiene allí y, con el maravilloso equipo de trabajo de la organización PASOs, han lanzado un nuevo programa para mujeres embarazadas, "Pasos en Tu Embarazo", ofreciendo información y apoyo durante esta etapa crucial. "Con el programa el equipo está comprometido en educar y apoyar a las madres durante el embarazo, fomentando un ambiente seguro tanto para la madre como para el futuro bebé para

que nazca en un ambiente seguro, fuera de drogas, de alcohol, de cigarrillos”, enfatiza Patricia.

Este programa no solo proporciona información vital sobre el cuidado prenatal, sino que también crea un espacio de apoyo y comunidad para las futuras madres. "Lo que queremos lograr es darles la información, los recursos, para que una mamita embarazada venga a nosotros y podamos decir: ok, este es el ABC de tu proceso de embarazo y encuentren una comunidad de mujeres que se apoyan".

La próxima clase será el 2 de mayo a las 5:30 pm en la librería de Chelsea Medical Center. En esa ocasión, hablarán sobre nutrición en la mujer embarazada, para prevenir la diabetes gestacional y la importancia del cuidado prenatal.

UN LEGADO DE AMOR Y COMPROMISO

A través de su viaje con el autismo y la maternidad, Patricia ha demostrado que el amor, la empatía y el apoyo pueden superar cualquier obstáculo. Su historia es un testimonio inspirador de fuerza y resiliencia, y su compromiso con hacer del mundo un lugar más inclusivo y compasivo es una luz guía para todos aquellos que tienen el privilegio de conocerla. THE POWER OF MATERNAL LOVE

She considers mothers to be super powerful, "we have superpowers that, I believe, no one surpasses. And a mother's

love moves mountains. The satisfaction of being a mom makes you grow, makes you learn, especially learn to give, to give without expecting anything in return."

Behind each smile of Patricia lies a profound message of gratitude, a legacy of love that she has imparted to her children. With every gesture, every word, she teaches them the value of appreciating life's blessings, even amidst challenges.

GRATITUDE

"To my children, I want to thank them for being themselves, for being so special and making me feel so special," she expresses with palpable emotion. With every obstacle they face together, Patricia reminds them of the importance of being thankful, not only for the joys but also for the lessons that life offers them.

FACING CHALLENGES

One of the most challenging moments in Patricia and her family's life was when they received the diagnosis of autism for their youngest son. "Juan Pablo's autism diagnosis was a transformative moment for our family. We faced significant challenges, but we also found great strength and unity."

FINDING SUPPORT IN THE COMMUNITY

"Discovering hope within the community can change lives in unimaginable ways. Your testimony is moving. "I found PASOs, a wonderful organization that offers a support network and vital resources for families facing challenges. I couldn't believe there was so much attention; that is, my son received all the care as if he had been born here. He received that kind of services that go home, give therapies, connect you with so many things, and I am extremely grateful for all these opportunities they gave my son." "That's when I started doing volunteer work with PASOs, while also working at La Isla Magazine. I am

very grateful to Mr. Eric Esquivel because he gave me the opportunity to work and take my children everywhere with me."

AN AUTISTIC FAMILY

Through love and mutual support, they have learned to accept and celebrate Juan Pablo's authenticity. "Juan Pablo has taught us to grow in authenticity, to respect authenticity. "It was challenging for us, but it has been inspiring. We have become an autism family. I speak of autistic families because we all have to get involved to support him in his integration into society."

INTEGRATION AND UNDERSTANDING

Patricia reflects on the importance of understanding and accepting the differing perceptions of autistic children. "They

just see things differently than we do, but it doesn't mean they don't see it, they don't experience it, they're not there to live it." For her, as a mother, it is essential to empower other mothers, as they are the ones who face the daily challenges of raising children with special needs. She acknowledges the effort involved in ensuring that her children are involved in activities that promote a healthy mind and body, such as sports, therapy, and medical visits, as well as the importance of proper nutrition and following treatments.

Patricia emphasizes that understanding that autism is not a condition with a quick fix, but a way of life that requires support and understanding, is crucial to providing the best support to children.

TOWARDS A MORE INCLUSIVE WORLD

Her commitment to inclusion led her to create, together with PASOs and Family Connection, the "Caminando Juntos" program, an initiative dedicated to supporting families with children with special needs. "Caminando Juntos is a fundamental part of my life. It is a program that offers support and vital resources to families facing challenges similar to ours. It is rewarding that the moms in the group support each other."

Regarding the integration and understanding of the needs of children with neurodiversity, Patricia acknowledges that there is still a long way to go. However, her

commitment to PASOs and other community efforts reflects her determination to create a more inclusive and understanding world for everyone.

SUPPORT FOR FUTURE MOTHERS

But Patricia's commitment does not stop there, and with the wonderful team at PASOs, they have launched a new program for pregnant women, "PASOs En Tu Embarazo," offering vital information and support during a crucial stage. "With the program, the team is committed to educating and supporting mothers during pregnancy, fostering a safe environment for both the mother and the future baby to be

born in a safe environment, free from drugs, alcohol, cigarettes," emphasizes Patricia.

This program not only provides vital information about prenatal care but also creates a space of support and community for future mothers. "What we want to achieve is to give them the information, the resources, so that a pregnant mother comes to us and we can say: okay, this is the ABC of your pregnancy process."

The next class will be on May 2nd at 5:30 pm at the Chelsea Medical Center bookstore. On that occasion, they will talk about nutrition in pregnant women, to prevent gestational diabetes and the importance of prenatal care.

A LEGACY OF LOVE AND COMMITMENT

Through her journey with autism and motherhood, Patricia has shown that love, empathy, and support can overcome any obstacle. This event highlighted the potential of AI to transform our community and shape the future.

AI, which simulates human intelligence in machines, encompasses various technologies such as machine learning and computer vision.

Currently, AI has a significant impact on various aspects of our lives, from healthcare to transportation and customer service.

Its ability to automate tasks and make decisions is revolutionizing industries and improving efficiency in different sectors.

In the context of our community, AI plays a crucial role in economic growth by creating new job opportunities and increasing productivity. Additionally, in the healthcare field, AI promises to revolutionize medical diagnosis and personalized medicine.

Memorial Day, o Día de los Caídos, tiene sus raíces en la Guerra Civil estadounidense. Originalmente conocido como Decoration Day, se estableció para honrar a los soldados caídos del Norte y del Sur.

El 30 de mayo de 1868, el general John A. Logan declaró que ese día debería ser un momento para decorar las tumbas de los fallecidos con flores. Esta fecha fue seleccionada porque no coincidía con ninguna batalla importante y permitía que las flores estuvieran en plena floración en todo el país.

On May 30, 1868, General John A. Logan declared that this day should be a time to decorate the graves of the deceased with flowers. This date was selected because it did not coincide with any major battle and allowed flowers to be in full bloom across the country.

SEGURIDAD EN BICICLETA

Andar en bicicleta es una excelente forma de moverse, pero es importante hacerlo de manera segura. Recuerda, las bicicletas deben seguir las mismas señales y reglas que los automóviles.

Mantén tu bicicleta en buen estado de funcionamiento. El manubrio debe estar bien ajustado, las cadenas no deben estar oxidadas y los frenos deben funcionar correctamente.

Siempre usa un casco. Esto protegerá tu cabeza y podría salvarte la vida.

Intenta andar por el carril diseñado para las bicicletas. Presta atención a las pequeñas señales de alto en los carriles de bicicleta.

Si no hay carriles de bicicleta y debes andar en la calle, hazlo en dirección al tráfico, en el mismo sentido que los automóviles. Debes obedecer todas las mismas reglas de tráfico que un automóvil.

Asegúrate de ser visible mientras andas

en bicicleta. Durante el día, usa colores brillantes. Trata de no andar en bicicleta por la noche, pero si lo haces, debes usar una luz delantera. También usa cinta reflectante y ropa blanca o de colores claros.

Ten cuidado en mal tiempo. La lluvia puede hacer que sea más difícil detenerte.

BIKE SAFETY

Biking is a great way to get around but it is important to be safe. Remember, bikes have to follow the same signs and rules as cars.

Keep your bike in good working condition. Handle bars should be tight in place, chains should not be rusty and the brakes should be working.

Always wear a helmet. This will protect your head and could save your life.

Try to ride on the bike path. Pay attention to the small stop signs on the bike paths.

If there are no bike paths and you must ride in the street – ride with the traffic – go the same way cars are going. You must obey all the same traffic rules that a car does.

Make sure you can be seen while riding your bike. During the day, wear bright colors. Try not to ride at night - but if you do, you should use a front headlight. Also wear reflective tape and white or light colored clothing.

Be careful in bad weather. Rain can make it harder for you to stop.

Pay attention while you are on your bikeWatch out for potholes, cracks, wet leaves, drainage grates or anything that could make you fall. Be careful on bridges. Keep both hands on the brakes in case you have to stop suddenly.

Never wear headphones while riding – you might not hear traffic coming behind you.

A bike can be stolen in only a minute or two. Use a U-shaped lock, heavy chain or cable. Lock your bike when you are going inside a building or leaving the immediate area.

El Día de la Madre es una fecha dedicada a celebrar el amor y la entrega de las mujeres que nos dieron la vida. Esta festividad se celebra el segundo domingo de mayo, y se convierte en la ocasión perfecta para demostrarle a mamá cuánto la queremos y apreciamos.

Un desayuno en la cama, un brunch familiar o una cena especial son algunas ideas para agasajarla. ¿qué mejor que un menú preparado con nuestras propias manos?

Comparto una receta deliciosa y fácil de preparar, ideal para sorprender a mamá en su día:

PANQUEQUES DE ARÁNDANOS CON MIEL DE MAPLE

INGREDIENTES:

• 1 taza de harina

• 2 cucharadas de azúcar

• 2 cucharaditas de polvo de hornear

• 1/2 cucharadita de sal

• 1 taza de leche

• 1 huevo

• 2 cucharadas de mantequilla derretida

• 1 taza de arándanos frescos

• Miel de maple al gusto

• Nueces picadas o las frutas de su preferencia para decorar

PREPARACIÓN:

1. En un tazón grande, mezclar la harina, el azúcar, el polvo de hornear y la sal.

2. En otro recipiente, combinar la leche, el huevo y la mantequilla derretida.

3. Incorporar los ingredientes húmedos a los secos, mezclando hasta obtener una masa homogénea.

4. Calentar una sartén a fuego medio y engrasarla con mantequilla.

5. Verter pequeñas porciones de la masa sobre la sartén, formando panqueques redondos.

6. Cocinar durante 2-3 minutos por cada lado, o hasta que estén dorados.

7. Servir los panqueques calientes con arándanos frescos, miel de maple y nueces picadas.

Breakfast in bed, a family brunch, or a special dinner are some ideas to pamper her. What better than a menu prepared with our own hands?

I share a delicious and easy-to-prepare recipe, ideal for surprising mom on her day:

BLUEBERRY PANCAKES WITH MAPLE SYRUP

INGREDIENTS:

• 1 cup of flour

• 2 tablespoons of sugar

• 2 teaspoons of baking powder

• 1/2 teaspoon of salt

• 1 cup of milk

• 1 egg

• 2 tablespoons of melted butter

• 1 cup of fresh blueberries

• Maple syrup to taste

• Chopped nuts or sliced fruits for garnish

PREPARATION:

1. In a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.

2. In another bowl, combine the milk, egg, and melted butter.

3. Incorporate the wet ingredients into the dry ones, mixing until a homogeneous dough is obtained.

4. Heat a skillet over medium heat and grease it with butter.

5. Pour small portions of the batter onto the skillet, forming round pancakes.

6. Cook for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown.

7. Serve the pancakes hot with fresh blueberries, maple syrup, and chopped nuts.
