A word from the Boss
ROSS EMBLETON EXETER CITY
“In a short space of time I feel our performances have improved and we’ve picked up some points. I think the fact we are frustrated with not getting three points against Exeter; you have to take that as a positive, as long as we learn and develop on the things, we think prevented us getting all three points.”
BOLTON WANDERERS
“It is a huge club. They’ve really suffered. It’s important to remember the massive club they are despite the massive setbacks. They’ve probably not got off to the start they would have wanted but I think they’ve started to find themselves recently. We know it’s going to be a tough game.”
GETTING A FIRST LEAGUE WIN AT HOME
ES
“I think our home form improved prior to lockdown. We felt in a good place at home. Going away is different now, it’s not intimidating. We want to be winning at home. We want people to come here and find it tough whether there’s fans here or not.”

Captain’s column
JOBI McANUFF EXETER
“Overall a point was fair. First-half we were better. Second-half we conceded early and never really got going. For me you have to respect the team you’re playing – they’ll be up there, certainly play-offs. For us, it was a good opportunity to show our development against a team who has done well in this league. There were a lot of positives to take out of the game.”
CONOR WILKINSON
“Conor’s ability is there for everyone to see; what he can do with the ball, his attributes. For me he has everything to be a top player, not even at this level – he can go on and do well it is just about consistency, as it is with us.
WE WANT TO SHOW CONSISTENCY, WE’RE AT HOME AND WE FANCY OURSELVES AGAINST ANYONE WE FACE
We have shown glimpses, as has Con. It’s about doing that regularly. We demand that of ourselves as does Conor. I really hope he feels at home, because he has moved around a lot and he realises he has the platform to go on.”
BOLTON WANDERERS
“There’s been a lot of change at Bolton. They will be looking to stabilise like we did when we stumbled down the leagues, you need that period of time where you can build. Their form has indicated they’ve started to turn a corner. The players they have brought in will take time to bed in and understand what the manager wants. They have quality there, no doubt about it. We’ve been in good from and will be looking to keep that
07
going. We want to show consistency, we’re at home and we fancy ourselves against anyone we face!
THE WEEK COMING UP
“We have a good couple of games to look forward to against Forest Green and Newport County AFC in the FA Cup. In term of the Forest Green game; we’re familiar with them and I personally expect them to be up there. That’s proven to be the case. Newport have had a fantastic start to the season. That’s two games to really look forward to and test ourselves against teams who are way up in the table, which is ultimately where we want to get to. We can look forward to those games and show we can be as good as the teams who have started really well this year.”

DAN HAPPE +++++ 100 APPEARANCES FOR THE FOOTBALL CLUB – IT’S BEEN A GOOD START TO THE SEASON FOR YOU!
“To get 100 appearances at my age is a great achievement and to top it off with the Captain’s armband a couple of times was great. I’ve been at the club since I was 14 and I’ve worked my way through the ranks. To wear the armband was a great privilege.”
IT’S BEEN A GOOD COUPLE OF WEEKS, 7 POINTS FROM 9, THE LADS WILL BE LOOKING FOR THE FIRST LEAGUE WIN AT HOME AGAINST BOLTON.
“Since the outbreak I feel we have found our feet and we can really hurt teams. We are full of confidence and we are ready for the match!”
THE SEASON AHEAD: YOU CAN SEE THE PROGRESS…
“You have to aim high if you want to achieve. It’s early days but we’re three points off the play-offs so there’s no reason we shouldn’t be aiming for that.”

MEET FINLAY LOVATT
IN OUR SIT-DOWN INTERVIEW, THE SECOND-YEAR SCHOLAR TALKS HONESTLY ABOUT HIS FOOTBALLING JOURNEY, HIS INJURY SETBACKS AND HIS DESIRE TO GO OUT ON LOAN TO FURTHER HIS DEVELOPMENT. In terms of producing Football League talent, Leyton Orient is no stranger to providing opportunities for young footballers to go and forge a career in the game. While the likes of Dan Happe and Ruel Sotiriou have cemented their places in the first team, 18-year-old Finlay Lovatt is looking to follow in their footsteps. The second-year scholar has spent the majority of his footballing education in E10, except for a twomonth stint at Watford where the striker went on trial as a 16-year-old. Lovatt is a highly rated forward amongst his peers, with under-18s co-manager Brian Saah also recognising his ability. “Finlay is an intelligent football player who enjoys scoring and creating goals. He is technically good and has clever movement to find space and link the play.”
However, as of late, Lovatt shares that it’s been a difficult period in his career.
optimistic and is hoping to secure a loan move to further his professional development.
“Since June this year, I’ve suffered three ankle injuries,” Lovatt admits. The 18-year-old sustained his first injury during lockdown, as he unfortunately damaged his ankle whilst putting in the extra hours ahead of the greatly anticipated return to sport.
“That’s the next goal,” Finlay says. “In men’s football, it’s a chance to showcase that you can get a professional deal, as men’s football is so important to get a taste of what it would actually be like.”
The side-lined forward was out for a month and a half and after returning from injury, the young Orient man hobbled back to the treatment table just days later. After recovering from his second injury, Lovatt managed to put together a run of injury-free performances before damaging his opposite ankle at Northampton away. Nevertheless, with his injury woes now just a distant memory, Lovatt has remained
28
Lovatt continues by giving an honest account of himself: “Especially for someone like me, who might not be physically ready in their eyes, you can showcase that you can cope with it. This also might give them a different viewpoint of how you can deal with moving into first-team football.” The under-18s are next in action against Stevenage on Saturday, as Alex Lawless and Brian Saah’s side will look to build on the momentum from their recent draw against league-leaders Luton Town. Although it will be a quick turnaround for the Orient youth side, as they begin their FA Youth Cup journey just two days later. On Monday 2nd November, the O’s will welcome Woking’s youth side to the Breyer Group Stadium, with the game being streamed live on Leyton Orient’s YouTube channel. “It means a lot (playing at the Breyer Group Stadium) because that’s where I want to be playing week in, week out. So, it’ll give me a good taste of what it’s like playing there and it’ll just be a great experience.”
LOFC WOMEN LOWFC ARE UP FOR THE CUP After defeating Dulwich Hamlet in the previous round, Orient take a trip to the seaside this weekend to take on Eastbourne Town with a place in the First Round proper of the Vitality FA Cup up for grabs. Like Orient’s last two opponents, Dulwich Hamlet and QPR, Eastbourne Town compete in the London & South East Regional Division – one tier below the O’s in the women’s football league pyramid.
discussed the desire in the squad to put things right after last weekend’s shoot-out defeat in the Capital Cup to QPR. “We are looking forward to getting back to FA Cup action and are ready to bounce back from last week’s cup disappointment. The team have been working hard in training to ensure we give a performance worthy of a spot in the next round.”
The Saffrons come into this one well rested following the postponement of their clash with Burgess Hill Town last weekend. The Sussex based side also head into this tie in good form having won five of their first six games in all competitions this season. Two of those five wins have come in the F.A Cup. A 2-0 victory over Tilehurst Panthers set up a second qualifying round match-up away at Dartford which Eastbourne won on penalties after the match ended 1-1 after 90 minutes. Speaking ahead of this weekend’s game, O’s winger Hayley Barton
