A word from the Boss
ROSS EMBLETON A WEEK ON THE TRAINING PITCH
“We have been able to sit and do what we consider the main part of our job. It’s also important that we’ve been able to rest. Training isn’t the same intensity as a game. We haven’t had to travel, and we haven’t had a Tuesday game for the first time in a long time.”
HARROGATE TOWN
“We want to go and win the game. I’m envious of Harrogate if I’m brutally honest. They’ve come into League Two with momentum from promotion. We lost that for obvious reasons.”
WHAT TO EXPECT FROM THE VISITORS
“I’m expecting them to be very competitive. They must have a great feel. They’re building on success. They’ve changed from 4-4-2 to 4-3-3 recently. They’ll be aggressive. They’ll get the ball in the box. We have to stand up and deal with it.”

JOBI McANUFF TURNING MOMENTUM IN OUR FAVOUR
“From our point of view, it has been a disappointing sequence of results. We want to change our fortunes quickly, we want to get back to positive results and that starts today. I’ve watched plenty of Harrogate this year and we’ve got experience from playing them in the National League. They’re a good team. We’re going into the game looking for a positive result and getting right back on track.”
A WEEK ON THE TRAINING GROUND
“It’s a real balance between recovering from what has been a really punishing schedule and putting that work in, in training that we haven’t had so much of this year because of the constant games. It’s the same for everyone. It is difficult playing Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday, Tuesday. We’re getting lads closer to returning too. They’ve had another week of rehab. It has been a really positive week for us. We want to use this wisely and let it help us kick on.”
HARROGATE TOWN
they’ll be prepped and ready to go. We still expect the same Harrogate.”
BACK-TO-BACK HOME FIXTURES
“They’re a good team. I like them. They’ve got a little bit of everything. They do try and get it down, but they can go direct, quite quickly. Defensively we have to be ready. That’s the whole team, we have to do our job. From our point of view, we have to put our stamp on the game because we’re at home. We’ve had experience at this level now, and we feel we’re a better team for it, so we have to go and show that against a newly promoted team. Of course, not having the manager isn’t ideal. It’s something clubs across the country have had to come to terms with and I’m sure
“It’s about switching momentum and sustaining it. We saw how quickly that can build up when we had the run of good results, winning three and drawing one. We now know how quickly that can swing when it’s going the other way. Overall, we want to get consistency into our game. We’re not a million miles away. We just need to put that consistent run of form together that gets results. If we can do that, I think we have a really good chance of having a really good season.
It’s a competitive league but there isn’t a big gap between us and play-offs. If you’re going to start setting aims and targets, that’s where we should be looking.”

JAMES BROPHY +++++ TURNING MOMENTUM BACK IN OUR FAVOUR, AFTER FOUR DEFEATS!
“We want to go back out there and turn the form that we had earlier in the season, in the cups, into the league.”
ARE YOU ENJOYING YOUR FOOTBALL, THERE’S NO DOUBTING THIS MUST BE A CRAZY SEASON?
“I always enjoy it every time I go out there. It’s been unusual without supporters and we can’t wait to have them back.”
HARROGATE ARE A SIDE WHO HAVE JUST COME UP AND THEY’RE PLAYING WITHOUT FEAR – SHOULD BE A GOOD CHALLENGE?
“That’s what happens when you come up into a new division. We had shades of it last year. There isn’t so much expectation because you’re new to the division.”
16
GET TO KNOW JAMES BROPHY Who do you support? Chelsea. Favourite football player, past and present? Arjen Robben and right now Leroy Sane. If you could put yourself into any team in history, which would you choose? I’d either put myself in Pep’s 10/11 Barca team or Cruyff’s Barca side. Best footballer you’ve either played with or against? Against, was Benteke! I played him in a friendly after he’d just moved to Liverpool, he was full of confidence. Jobi of course is another special player! Any football habits/traditions? I don’t get changed ‘til the very last opportunity, I don’t like waiting around. I like to get changed and go. It’s been a crazy year, what keeps you busy in lockdown? Plenty of TV Boxsets and I’m also trying to learn Spanish. My girlfriend is Argentinian, so it’s only fair! Any Netflix suggestions? You. It’s a thriller. I really enjoyed it. Your favourite animal? I love dogs and I love foxes! It’s little over a month ‘til Christmas, what’s the best part of a Christmas dinner? I would say the beer that goes with it. We have a game Boxing Day so of course, not this year! Three songs to add to our Spotify playlist… Djadja – Aya Nakamura Holy – Justin Bieber Because of you – Ne-Yo

DESPITE THE O’S BEING A GOAL DOWN AT THE INTERVAL, ALEX LAWLESS AND BRIAN SAAH’S SIDE MANAGED TO FIND AN EQUALISER AND SECURE AN IMPORTANT POINT AT THE WHITBREAD PLAYING FIELDS.
Following the O’s recent defeat to Woking in the FA Youth Cup, Brian Saah spoke of the importance of bouncing back from a negative result. Antony Papadopoulos had a helping hand in doing so, as his 53rd-minute strike levelled the scores.
equaliser, through a spectacularly taken effort from O’s captain Papadopoulos. From his leftback position, Harrison Sodje drove inwards with the ball and later back heeled a pass towards Papadopoulos, who converted into the top righthand corner.
It was a gloom start to the morning over in east London, as Bryan Ifeanyi was brought down following a late challenge. The Orient winger was forced to hobble off the pitch to receive treatment but ultimately didn’t return to the game.
Following the game, Saah had this to say about Papadopoulos’ performance.
Orient’s morning then took another dark turn, as Gillingham managed to convert after 22 minutes. Reggie Pegrum was unfortunately muscled off the ball by a Gillingham attacker, who later released a pass to his fellow striker who converted past Connor Hunt to gives the Gills the lead. The O’s headed into half-time trailing by a goal but it was certainly Orient who started the second half as the brighter side. It took just eight minutes for Orient to find an
“He’s been performing really well,” Saah explained. “He’s been driving the team forward and his goals have been really valuable.” With their lead lost, Gillingham went looking for a second. With eight minutes left to play, the away side found the back of the net, but the O’s were handed a lifeline, as the linesman raised his flag for offside. With just minutes left to play, Gillingham were desperate for a winner, but Orient’s Hunt stood firm and denied the Gills on multiple occasions. Many thanks to Hunt’s cat-like reflexes in the dying moments, the O’s managed to earn a point from this EFL Youth Alliance fixture.
