A word from the Boss

ROSS EMBLETON MORECAMBE

“I was extremely disappointed and frustrated. We lost points. I thought we were fantastic in the first half-hour. There’s been times where we have played well but not looked a goal threat – last night I felt we had that threat. We have to show that relentless attitude, to do the things we do well, for longer.”

JE3

“The JE3 foundation continues to strive to achieve their targets in relation to defibrillators and all the causes they’re linked with. I think the work Charlie, Kerri, Cydnie and everyone involved are doing is fantastic. It has been tough for charities, but they continue to achieve and have Justin’s name right at the front of that.”

CRAWLEY TOWN

“Our home form has been very good. We enjoy playing our football and I think results have reflected that. We go into the game confident. We go into the game confident. Crawley are a good team; they’re well organised, hardworking and they have some talented players.”

JANUARY TRANSFER WINDOW

“There will be activity. I expect that to be coming and goings. There will be opportunities for people to go elsewhere. I think we have to be open-minded to supporting our players and our people. I have to be responsible for these professional footballers and their future.”

CHRISTMAS PERIOD

“What a year. It has been incredibly strange for everybody. I’m sure everyone will remember this Christmas for so many different reasons. We will all be mixing with less people, that will be strange. We all look forward to a packed Christmas period and being able to attend games, supporting our team. We thank everyone for their incredible support, it’s quite amazing how much the supporters have stood by the club in a difficult time. On behalf of the staff, players and everyone associated with Leyton Orient – we hope everyone finds their way of celebrating Christmas and can look back on it with a little bit of a smile.”

will help more and more people. That has always been the aim.

“I thought we started really, really well. We got the ball down, played good stuff and opened them up on numerous occasions. I think the disappointing thing for us is, it was a game that was there for us to win. In my opinion, we let them off the hook, we need to be more ruthless and take our chances. It was the same at Scunthorpe.

We have lost a special person, someone we loved greatly but hopefully something positive can come out of the foundation in terms of preventing other families experiencing heart ache and save lives. The more exposure and positivity we can get from the campaign, ultimately, it will save lives.”

We need to be more ruthless with the ball, keeping it and moving it as well as taking our chances. In our view, it was three points dropped and a result we were really disappointed with.”

MERRY CHRISTMAS

“First of all, it’s really disappointing news that supporters won’t be able to come to today’s game. We’ve been looking forward to having everyone back in the ground and it made such a difference against Bristol and Newport.

CRAWLEY TOWN

“The games are coming quick and fast. The positive with that is when you’re on the end of a negative result you quickly have the opportunity to put it right. Since the final whistle went on Tuesday night, we’ve been dying to get to this game. We feel we are playing well. We just need to concentrate on one or two things to start and get results consistently. This is a game we’re looking to win at home and get straight back on track.”

JE3 DAY

“It’s massive. Yesterday was the Gaffer’s birthday, which is a big one for the family and everyone at the foundation. It’s a day to remember him. Hopefully by having this JE3 day on a match day we can continue to celebrate him. He was a fantastic man taken way, way too early, from everybody – but of course the Edinburgh family. They’re in our thoughts all year round, but particularly around this time of year. It’s a great opportunity to highlight the work the foundation are doing and raise awareness. It’s getting bigger and bigger and ultimately

We know it’s been a difficult period for fans, life in general has been tough. We know they’re with us. I hope everyone has an enjoyable and safe Christmas. I really hope the New Year brings some more positivity, all round, particularly in terms of getting people back to The Breyer Group Stadium. We hope come the end of the season, we will all be together celebrating a really good campaign.”

MATT HARROLD YOUR NEW ROLE

“I’m really enjoying it. You enjoy it more when you win! You feel it even more as a member of staff. Your work so hard during the week preparing for games and defeats hit you hard. I’m constantly learning. Whether that’s seeing something new or dealing with different problems. It’s great, I’m loving it. It’s great to enjoy and learn at the same time.”

THE START TO THE SEASON

“It has been good; it could have been better and it’s quite frustrating how it could have been. The last couple of away games have been frustrating in terms of putting on good performances but not for the full 90 minutes. There’s stuff to work on but on the whole I think we have shown we can dominate just about anyone when we are on it. We just need to find consistency. I think we’re in a good place. I’ve been to a lot of games, as part of my role as well as being with the team and I’m genuinely not scared of anyone. They’re some good teams but if we find consistency and a ruthless edge, we will be up the top end.”

CRAWLEY TOWN

“I went to their game on Tuesday against Bradford. I met their background and office staff and saw some people I knew. I had some good times there. It’s a game we’re looking forward to. It’s tough game. They’re not on the best run of form but they have some good players. They’re an aggressive team. I’m looking forward to it. We have to go and impact the game and be at our very best.”

Referee: Scott Oldham Assistants: Aaron Farmer and John Flynn Fourth Official: Martyn Holmes Oldham has taken charge of 16 games so far this season; the majority coming in League One. The official has booked 24 players and awarded five penalties this season. The Referee last took charge of an O’s game last September, booking George Marsh, Conor Wilkinson, Louis Dennis, in Orient’s 3-3 draw with Port Vale.

TODAY, WE’RE DELIGHTED TO BE SUPPORTING THE SECOND ANNUAL JE3 DAY – AND WE CAUGHT UP WITH THE FOUNDER OF THE JE3 FOUNDATION, CHARLIE EDINBURGH.

“Whilst things are a bit different this year, we’re delighted to be hosting another JE3 Day,” said Charlie. We had a similar day last year, and it’s one we’re looking to make an annual day in the footballing calendar. Last year was really successful in terms of spreading awareness, and in continuing my dad’s legacy. With the way Covid has impacted everything, we’re unable to do a Gala dinner this year – but we didn’t want that to stop our momentum.

“THE USE OF CPR AND THE IMPORTANCE OF DEFIBRILLATORS IS THE KEY MESSAGE WE’RE LOOKING TO SEND”

The use of CPR and the importance of defibrillators is the key message we’re looking to send, as well as course, for people to get behind #JustinsLaw, which will be big for us next year.

26

“THE JE3 FOUNDATION’S WORK IS ALL ABOUT SAVING LIVES. WE DON’T WANT PEOPLE TO HAVE TO EXPERIENCE WHAT WE HAVE” DO WHAT JACK DID Working alongside some other charitable organisations, we all pulled in the same direction – and it was great for us to jump on board with this campaign. I was a little bit nervous about getting in front of a camera and speaking about our story as a family, but I thought if anything it would help people empathise. The story of Jack is all true, and goes to show with those skills of CPR in the bank what can happen. The JE3 Foundation’s work is all about saving lives. We don’t want people to have to experience what we have.

REFLECTING ON JUSTIN’S LIFE We were in the car coming back from the memorial this morning, and I said, as bad and as hard as these days are, in reflection of what the man was, in football and as a person, you can’t help but be proud. For me there’s no prouder feeling than being the son of Justin Edinburgh. 18 months has now passed since we lost him, and it’s the second birthday without him. Whilst they won’t get any easier, we have to keep reminding ourselves that he would want us to be positive.

27

LOFC WOMEN ORIENT STAGED A DRAMATIC COMEBACK TO DEFEAT ACTONIANS 2-1 AND SECURE THEIR PLACE IN THE SECOND ROUND OF THE VITALITY FA CUP. 90TH MINUTE GOALS FROM EGLE TREZZI AND SCARLETT SMITH SAW THE O’S TURN THE TIE ON ITS HEAD IN THE FIRST GAME PLAYED AT THEIR NEW HOME IN HORNCHURCH.

The London Derby was a tight, tense affair up until the 73rd minute when Meila D’Santos’ deflected effort gave the visitors the lead at the Bridge Avenue. It looked like time was running out for Chris Brayford’s side as they battled to get back into the contest, however as the clock ticked into the final minute of the 90, midfielder Trezzi produced a moment of genius to smash one in from outside the box and restore parity. Buoyed by the late leveller, the O’s went again. Lauren Heria showed great tenacity to win the ball back and set Michelle Young free down the right-hand side, the winger

@BRENDANPITCHER

then jinked to the outside of her marker and delivered a low cross into the six-yard box where Smith was on hand to prod home a dramatic winner right at the death. The O’s will travel to West London for the next round of the competition to take on WNL Southern Premier Division side, Hounslow in a tie set to be played on January 3rd. But before that they’ll be looking to build on their cup success as they take on Cambridge City this Sunday in what will be their first league fixture for over two months.

28

Speaking after the game, Smith remarked on her side’s desire to go one better now that Orient have equalled last season’s record of reaching the FA Cup Second Round CLICK HERE FOR INTERVIEW

FOLLOWING BACK-TO-BACK DEFEATS ON THE ROAD, THE O’S RESPONDED POSITIVELY IN THEIR MOST RECENT OUTING, AS THEY COMFORTABLY DEFEATED MK DONS 4-2. Brian Saah’s side managed to secure three important points in Buckinghamshire, with four different scorers finding the back of the net in the form of Bryan Ifeanyi, Daniel Nkrumah, Jephte Tanga and Finlay Lovatt. “We’ve got a lot of attacking threat,” Saah said post-match. “We’ve got some good players in the youth team. They’ve had two bad games and they’ve gone through a transitional year and, obviously, because of coronavirus - it hasn’t been easy. But, we do have good football players at this club.” Despite the difficulties in recent weeks, the O’s started with an air of confidence in their play and it wasn’t long before the deadlock was broken. With 18 minutes gone, Ifeanyi opened the scoring. In quarterback-like fashion, Will Sanders lifted the ball over the Dons defence and into the path of Ifeanyi, who rounded the goalkeeper and converted into the empty net. After taking the lead through Ifeanyi, it took just three minutes for the O’s to find their second. A cross from left-back Harrison Sodje found the unmarked Daniel Nkrumah, with the Orient man converting into the right-hand corner. With confidence rife amongst the O’s, Brian Saah’s side entered the half-time break two goals to the good, along with a clean sheet. However, the game turned on its head just six minutes into the second half. From a cross, an Orient defender attempted to clear a lofted ball into the box, but the clearance fell to a Dons player on the edge of the area, who converted from distance.

Following a dead leg, Jaheim Whyte made way for Finlay Lovatt. The Orient youngster made quite the impact in the latter stages of the fixture and had a hand in producing Orient’s third. Cutting inside with the ball, Lovatt curled an effort towards the far post, which the MK Dons stopper managed to get a hand to. However, he pushed his save towards Jephte Tanga and the Orient winger converted into the roof of the net past the hour mark. In an attempt to keep the game in touching distance, MK Dons found the back of the net in the 71st minute. A Dons midfielder slipped a ball in behind the O’s defence and the attacker manage to guide the ball past Rhys Byrne to reduce the deficit. With just a minute to go, Orient managed to win a penalty and Lovatt stepped up from 12-yards. With confidence, Lovatt fired his effort into the top left-hand corner, which sealed Orient’s 4-2 victory over MK Dons.
