E10 NEWS

A word from the Boss

ROSS EMBLETON FOREST GREEN ROVERS

“We will need to focus if we want to get three points. They will be different to the challenge that Morecambe posed us last weekend. It will be a game where both teams tussle to get possession of the ball. We’re both up there in terms of possession in the league but it’s about how practical you can be with that. We have to respect what they’re about. They’re a good team with very good players. For us, it’s about building on how good we are and where we can get to. That’s the priority.”

RECENT FORM

“We spoke earlier in the season about making our home ground a tough place to visit. We’ve done that so far and we have to continue to do that. It’s going to be a tough task at the weekend. We’re in a good place. Our mindset is strong, and we will make sure we continue to keep building on that.”

DAN KEMP AND NICK FREEMAN

“We have to fit them into the team and squad accordingly. I’m sure Dan was delighted to get minutes in the team as early as he did. He impressed when he came on. He was bright. That helps him get into the group a little bit more. We’ve got Nick done nice and early, so we’ve had time to bed him in and help him understand what we’re about as a club.”

JOBI McANUFF

RECENT FORM

“If you’re going to build and achieve your home record has to be very good. We feel confident at home. What you’re starting to see now is teams are coming to The Breyer Group Stadium and showing us a lot of respect. I was delighted with the Morecambe game because we had to be patient. We were and we got our reward. Our away form is something that we’re looking at. If we want to be where we would like, we have to improve on that.”

FOREST GREEN ROVERS

“It will be another tough game. The last two between us have been close. They’re a good team. We’re familiar with them and right now, we fancy ourselves against anybody. It is very important we get a positive result. Of course, we want to get the win and that’s always the aim. But against rivals in and around us it is important to get a positive result and keep things as tight as we can.”

150 LEAGUE APPEARANCES

“It’s fantastic. It’s a nice milestone. When I first joined Orient, I came to play; I knew I had a good few years left in me. I’m really pleased I have been able to come back and be in a place I very much enjoy.”

07

“WE FEEL CONFIDENT AT HOME. WHAT YOU’RE STARTING TO SEE NOW IS TEAMS ARE COMING TO THE BREYER GROUP STADIUM AND SHOWING US A LOT OF RESPECT”

CARLISLE UNITED LEYTON ORIENT’S TWICEPOSTPONED VISIT TO CARLISLE UNITED HAS NOW BEEN SET FOR EARLY FEBRUARY.

THE CLUB ARE DELIGHTED TO CONFIRM WYCOMBE’S NICK FREEMAN HAS SIGNED ON LOAN UNTIL THE END OF THE SEASON. The 25-year-old midfielder is Ross Embleton’s second signing of the January window, following the permanent addition of Dan Kemp, last Friday. Freeman has made seven Championship appearances this season and Head Coach Ross Embleton is delighted to sign a player of his ability. “I’m really pleased to sign a player of his quality. I’m really excited to work with him, ” said Embleton. Freeman has played for The Chairboys for five years, making 77 appearances, scoring eight goals and has two promotions on his CV. Last season, the midfielder made 34 appearances in all competitions, notching two goals and four assists.

The O’s will make the trip to Brunton Park on Tuesday 9th February – with a 6.30pm kick-off set in Cumbria.

“I’m buzzing to be here. This is a big club,” exclaimed Nick. “I’ve played against Leyton Orient. They have high expectations and I’m excited to be here.”

The first visit fell victim to a frozen pitch, before the rearranged game was called off after an outbreak of Covid 19 in the Carlisle side.

Nick will take the #28 shirt and is in contention to face Forest Green this afternoon.

The game will be streamed on Orient Live – with our matchday stream starting from 6pm.

Of course, we will respect that, but at the moment we have no fear.”

REMEMBERING MALCOLM SLATER THE CLUB ARE VERY SAD TO HEAR NEWS OF THE DEATH OF OUR FORMER RIGHT WINGER, MALCOLM SLATER.

VIRTUAL MASCOT

Born in the small town of Buckie, he started his playing career with local Scottish clubs Buckie Thistle, before going on to represent Glasgow Celtic, Inverness Caledonian and Montrose. He gave up football for while, after his two brothers were killed in a fishing boat accident during a storm. He came south to sign for Southend United in November 1963 for £2000. After four-years at Roots Hall and 94 appearances, he joined O’s for £6,000 on 1 January 1967. The slightly built winger soon proved popular with the fans with his skilful and pacy runs down the wing. He also proved popular in the dressing room with his great sense of humour. After four seasons at Brisbane Road, after a short loan spell with Colchester United, he was released by manager Jimmy Bloomfield in May 1970 and returned home to play in the Highlands League with both Inverness Caledonian and Ross County. In later years he ran a sportswear shop in Buckie and also worked as a tax advisor in Aberdeen. Recently he suffered with Alzheimer’s Disease until his death on 20 January, aged 82. The club would like to send its condolences to his family and friends. LEAGUE: 111 apps, 4 goals FA CUP: 7 apps, 1 goal LEAGUE CUP: 7 apps, 0 goals TOTAL: 125 apps, 5 goals
