A word from the Boss

ROSS EMBLETON POSTPONED FIXTURES

“You never want the break from fixtures because you want to play and gather momentum. Perhaps in a couple of weeks we will look back and be thankful for a slight breather, albeit the circumstances were not ideal.”

PORT VALE

“We’ve put out focus on particular individuals. Our priority is always us. We don’t spend a huge amount of time where we really focus on the opposition. Of course, we identify where they’re good, but we really focus on where we can hurt them.”

PACKED SCHEDULE

“We have to be ready for what is coming. The players that are fit and ready will get opportunities. Players like playing games. We will be ready and excited for each fixture.”

“PLAYERS LIKE PLAYING GAMES. WE WILL BE READY AND EXCITED FOR EACH FIXTURE” 05

Captain’s column

JOBI McANUFF POSTPONED FIXTURES

“We have been able to get some work done. The weather has been difficult in terms of getting on the pitch at times, but we’ve made the most of the options available and we’ve tried to get as much time in as we can. From a player’s point of view, it’s frustrating when games get cancelled. We know it was freak weather and nothing more could have been done. It’s now a matter of looking forward to what’s going on, on the back of a short break and a chance to refresh. We’re raring to go.”

PORT VALE

“When a new manager comes in you know he will have his own ideas. What you can expect is that ‘bounce’ that everyone talks about. Players that haven’t been involved have a new opportunity and those that have been playing want to prove themselves to their manager. We have to be wary. I think we were fortunate to get away with the win at Vale Park, in the end. For us, this is a game at home and one we’re looking forward to. If we are anywhere near our best, we feel we can get a good result.”

BUSY RUN

“WE WANT TO MOVE UP THE PACK. WE KNOW WE CAN DO IT. IT’S ABOUT MAKING SURE WE DO IT BETWEEN NOW AND THE END OF THE SEASON”

“It’s all about picking up points regularly. We made a point a few weeks ago about how we haven’t been drawing games. Then we ended up drawing two on the bounce! In terms of consistency and putting a run together – there will be times, even when we want to win games, that a draw is a good result. If you’re not going to win it is important not to lose, particularly against those in and around us. The league is wide open from top to bottom. Every point is massive. We have to grind games out. That’s our focus – putting a run together. We want to move up the pack. We know we can do it. It’s about making sure we do it between now and the end of the season.”

SETTLING IN

“It’s been really good. I didn’t know what to expect but the lads have been really welcoming. It’s a tight group here. I feel at home. The players and staff have all been brilliant.”

TWO GAMES, TWO CLEAN SHEETS

“As a defender that’s all you can do. I’d rather the two wins, but it’s a good foundation to build upon. We want to try and win games but if we don’t win, we don’t lose. We dug in well with ten-men against Crawley.”

PORT VALE

“It’s always a tough game against a team with a new manager. You want to impress and get into his plans. They’ll be at it, so, it will be a tough game. We have to be at it and ready to match that and more. We want to be winning games.”

As well as his love for the O’s, Gary was also a keen concert goer and a follower of Essex CC and would meet with fellow O’s fans at Chelmsford during the cricket season. Gary will be greatly missed by all who knew him at the O’s and we send condolences to his family at this sad time.
