A word from the Gaffer

JOBI McANUFF TWO TOP RESULTS

“We have put a lot of hard work in. The travelling hasn’t been easy, but you get a lot of satisfaction when you pull off results. Saturday is even more important now we have those six points, we want to cap off a really good week.”

CLEAN SHEETS

“We have defended really well. People have put their body on the line and Loz has made some fantastic saves. There is another aspect to that, and that is keeping the ball. We haven’t done that well enough in the last couple of games, but we have got results.”

OLDHAM ATHLETIC

“They’re a good footballing team. They want to get on the ball and try and pass it, as will we. It should make for a good game. They got a good result the other night. For us, we know we need to be at the level. It’s important we get back to winning games at home.”

“THE TRAVELLING HASN’T BEEN EASY, BUT YOU GET A LOT OF SATISFACTION WHEN YOU PULL OFF RESULTS”

Captain’s column

CRAIG CLAY TWO REALLY GOOD RESULTS

“We showed fantastic resilience to keep two clean sheets. We upped our intensity and our work rate. It wasn’t too pretty on Tuesday night, but I’m not sure anyone goes to Carlisle and plays pretty. The result was the main thing!”

OLDHAM ATHLETIC

“We have watched clips on Oldham and they’re a good team who look to try and play. They have got good movement. It’s always about us when we’re at home. We have good momentum on the back of these two away results and we have to carry it on! Our last two home games have finished in a draw and we weren’t quite up to our standards. We need to get that winning feeling back at home. We’ve proven we can do it on the road, now it is about giving ourselves a fortress to come back to.”

FINISHING THE SEASON STRONG AND AIMING HIGH

“The play-offs looked like a tough task, but we have a chance. It’s still seven points but with ten games remaining, I’m sure other teams have done it. Everything is there to fight for.”

“WE HAVE GOOD MOMENTUM ON THE BACK OF THESE TWO AWAY RESULTS AND WE HAVE TO CARRY IT ON”

DEAN BRILL +++++ FINISHING THE SEASON STRONG

“Two good away performances. Away points always feel good when you consider the travelling and everything else that goes into it. It’s a good block to build on and we’re back at home this Saturday. We think we’re strong and we make it a hard place to come. Two good results and we will be looking to make it three on Saturday.”

15 CLEAN SHEETS SO FAR

“Loz has been brilliant. So has Sarge and the other young goalkeepers that we work with. Rhys Byrne has been with us for the last four or five months and he has been excellent. Loz is a character, but he works hard! He listens and we talk a lot. He buys into what we talk about and has input in what we do, as does Sarge. We speak freely about what we think training should look like and what games should look like. We watch lots of footage together. His performances this season have been brilliant. He is the best goalkeeper in the league.

ARE WE AIMING TO TOP THE CLEAN SHEETS PILE?

“As a goalkeeper, you can look at is as a marker and use it to hit personal targets. I think it’s about the team and the way we defend and attack. For Lawrence, it is a big step. Over the last 18 months I have seen him drive the team. That’s a big step at this stage of his career, to understand what it means to the team and himself.”

OLDHAM ATHLETIC

“Keith Curle knows how to get promoted. I’ve watched plenty of Oldham recently and they’ve picked up some decent results. The game will be about us. We want to build on what we have done.”

16

GET TO KNOW DEAN BRILL Who do you support? Luton Town, born and bred. Favourite ‘keeper? Peter Schmeichel without doubt! Best player you have ever faced? I have faced Steven Gerrard in the Cup. Torres played that day too, but I have to say Gerrard. What is the difference between a good keeper now and one 20 years ago? The obvious answer is you have to be good with your feet. I think kids actually want to be a ‘keeper now though! Dream 5-a-side team… Schmeichel, Van Dijk, Zidane, Pirlo, Ronaldo (Brazilian) What do you like to get up to in your spare time? I love cycling. I started it up as recovery on a Sunday when I used to play. Lockdown encouraged me a little more, I just love it. A TV show you would recommend? Game of Thrones. Favourite food? Christmas dinner. What other sport, bar football, do you enjoy? NFL! I don’t have a team but I’ve been to a few games and I watch it as often as I can. Three songs to add to our Spotify playlist… Tears For Fears - Everybody Wants To Rule The World Michael Jackson - P.Y.T Mac Band – Roses Are Red
